• ASP.NET MVC: How can I explain an invalid type violation to an end-user with Html.ValidationSummary?

  Serious n00b warning here; please take mercy! So I finished the Nerd Dinner MVC Tutorial and I'm now in the process of converting a VB.NET application to ASP.NET MVC using the Nerd Dinner program as a sort of rough template. I am using the "IsValid / GetRuleViolations()" pattern to identify invalid user input or values that violate business rules. I am using LINQ to SQL and am taking advantage of the "OnValidate()" hook that allows me to run the validation and throw an application exception upon trying to save changes to the database via the CustomerRepository class. Anyway, everything works well, except that by the time the form values reach my validation method invalid types have already been converted to a default or existing value. (I have a "StreetNumber" property that is an integer, though I imagine this would be a problem for DateTime or any other non-strings as well.) Now, I am guessing that the UpdateModel() method throws an exception and then alters the value because the Html.ValidationMessage is displayed next to the StreetNumber field but my validation method never sees the original input. There are two problems with this: While the Html.ValidationMessage does signal that something is wrong, there is no corresponding entry in the Html.ValidationSummary. If I could even get the exception message to show up there indicating an invalid cast or something that would be better than nothing. My validation method which resides in my Customer partial class never sees the original user input so I do not know if the problem is a missing entry or an invalid type. I can't figure out how I can keep my validation logic nice and neat in one place and still get access to the form values. I could of course write some logic in the View that processes the user input, however that seems like the exact opposite of what I should be doing with MVC. Do I need a new validation pattern or is there some way to pass the original form values to my model class for processing? • Android Extend BaseExpandableListAdapter

  I am trying to extend the BaseExpandableListAdapter, however when once I view the list and I select one of the elements to expand, the order of the list gets reversed. For example, if I have a list with 4 elements and select the 1st element, the order (from top to bottom) is now 4, 3, 2, 1 with the 4th element (now at the top) expanded. If I unexpand the 4th element the order reverts to 1, 2, 3, 4 with no expanded elements.   Hello, I'm completely new to MySql and haven't used SqlDataSource with UpdateParameters before, so I'm probably missing something very obvious. When trying to update a record, the update does happen but then throws an error saying "'id' parameter is missing at the statement".   I have Maven multi-module project with such structure: parent-pom-project -- module1 -- module2 At the parent-pom-project I have such pom.xml <modules> <module>module1</module> </modules> ... <profiles> <profile> <id>local</id> <properties> <prop>local_prop</prop> </properties> </profile> <profile> <id>test</id> <modules> <module>module2</module> </modules> <properties> <prop>test_prop</prop> </properties> </profile> </profiles> At all pom.xml files I have such tag: <build> <resources> <resource> <directory>src/main/resources</directory> <filtering>true</filtering> </resource> <resource> <directory>src/test/resources</directory> <filtering>true</filtering> </resource> </resources> </build> At module1 and module2 in resource directory I have properties files with such text: prop=${prop} The problem is that after mvn clean install or mvn clean install -Ptest or even mvn clean install -P test I get prop=local_prop If I user test profile for build module2 is also builded, but properties are used from local profile. I use Maven 3.0.3. Anybody have any ideas?

  users table: id-user-other columns scores table: id-user_id-score-other columns They're are more than one rows for each user, but there's only two scores you can have. (0 or 1, == win or loss). So I want to output all the users ordered by the number of wins, and all the users ordered by the numbers of losses. I know how to do this by looping through each user, but I was wondering how to do it with one query. Any help is appreciated!

  I'm developing a web application and I run Jetty as the development and testing environment when I develop under Eclipse. When I make changes to Java classes, Eclipse automatically compiles them to the build directory, but Jetty won't see the changes until I stop and start the server. I know that Jetty supports "hot deployment" using ContextDeployer that will refresh updated application contexts, but it relies on a context file in a context directory being updated - which is not very useful in my case. Is there a way to set up Jetty so that it will reload the web app when any of the classes it uses is updated? • Javascript scope problem with object and setTimeout

  I'm trying to make a jQuery plugin that executes a method on a timer. I'd like it to work on multiple elements on a page independently. I've reached a point where the timer executes for each element, but the method called in the setTimeout seems to only know about the last instance of the plugin. I know I'm doing something fundamentally stupid here, but I'm danged if I know what. I know stuff like this has been asked 8 million times on here before, but I've not managed to find an answer that relates to my specific problem. • Java Socket Connection is flooding network OR resulting in high ping

  i have a little problem with my java socket code. I'm writing an android client application which is sending data to a java multithreaded socket server on my pc through direct(!) wireless connection. It works fine but i want to improve it for mobile applications as it is very power consuming by now. When i remove two special lines in my code, the cpu usage of my mobile device (htc one x) is totally okay but then my connection seems to have high ping rates or something like that... Here is a server code snippet where i receive the clients data: while(true) { try { .... Heres the client part, where i send my data in a while loop: private void networking() { try { if(client != null) { .... out.writeObject(sendQueue.poll()); .... } } catch .... when i write it this why, i send data everytime the while loop gets executed.. when sendQueue is empty, a null "Object" will be send. this results in "high" network traffic and in "high" cpu usage. BUT: all send comments are received nearly immediately. when i change the code to following: while(true) ... if(sendQueue.peek() != null) { out.writeObject(sendQueue.poll()); } ... the cpu usage is totally okay but i'm getting some laggs.. the commands do not arrive fast enough.. as i said, it works fine (besides cpu usage) if i'm sending data(with that null objects) every while execution. but i'm sure that this is very rough coding style because i'm kind of flooding the network. any hints? what am i doing wrong??
