• XAMPP is caching .html files running as PHP

  I have XAMPP (latest version) installed on my Mac OS 10.6.3 I've added the following to .htaccess because I want .html to be interpreted as PHP. AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .html The problem is that the default XAMPP config seems to be caching .html files as static... so even though the PHP statements inside are being called (for example, 'echo time()' in index.html displays the dynamic output)... the actual file is being cached. When I make changes to a .html file, I've having to restart Apache for it to load the newest changes. Looking at httpd.conf, it looks like it's loading the following cache mods.. LoadModule file_cache_module modules/mod_file_cache.so LoadModule cache_module modules/mod_cache.so LoadModule disk_cache_module modules/mod_disk_cache.so LoadModule mem_cache_module modules/mod_mem_cache.so Any idea how to implement a system whereby it checks the timestamp of the file, before loading it from cache? Thanks!

• Archlinux auto-start after I shutdown my computer

  every one. I'm in a big trouble. My computer (HP ProBook 4230s) has two OS----Archlinux and Win 7. When I use Archlinux, after halt my computer, it will start up after a while without press power. And there is an other thing. My computer's clock will be wrong. Many times I change it in bios, but it wrong again. If I turn off the computer from Win 7, it will never start up untill pressing power bottom. And the clock will be right. I also used ubuntu\debian\mageia, and both of them are fine with my notebook. Is there some configure is wrong with my ArchLinux?

• Is writing to a socket an arbitrary limitation of the sendfile() syscall?

  Prelude sendfile() is an extremely useful syscall for two reasons: First, it's less code than a read()/write() (or recv()/send() if you prefer that jive) loop. Second, it's faster (less syscalls, implementation may copy between devices without buffer, etc...) than the aforementioned methods. Less code. More efficient. Awesome. In UNIX, everything is (mostly) a file. This is the ugly territory from the collision of platonic theory and real-world practice. I understand that sockets are fundamentally different than files residing on some device. I haven't dug through the sources of Linux/*BSD/Darwin/whatever OS implements sendfile() to know why this specific syscall is restricted to writing to sockets (specifically, streaming sockets). I just want to know... Question What is limiting sendfile() from allowing the destination file descriptor to be something besides a socket (like a disk file, or a pipe)?

  Operating system: Mac OS 10.6.2 I'd like to be able to see colour output when piping certain commands through less. Two examples: I've got ls aliased to ls --color=auto, so I'd like to be able to see colour when I do this: ls -l | less I've also got the color extension turned on in Mercurial, so I'd like to see colour output from: hg diff | less and hg st | less After some googling, it seems like some versions of less support either -r or -R to make this work, but no dice for me. I can't see anything in the man page that looks like what I need. (-r or -R SEEM to be the right options, but again, they don't seem to work)

• Is there a Windows API to modify file type associations for an extension?

  I'm looking for a way to programatically tweak the particulars of a file association on a Windows system. For example, the "Application User to Perform this Action" setting for the "Open" action for a particular file type. Clearly I could do this by modifying the registry directly, but if there is an API I'd prefer to use that as it would likely be more resilient to changes in the OS handling of mapping extensions to applications. For my purposes I'm needing to write this in VBScript (.VBS) file because it is part of a package to be used with VMWare ThinApp that mandates it. However, I'll port/wrap/whatever I need to make this week, so I am open to any solution (including using the .NET framework)

• Fluent NHib causing visual studio 2010 hanging at runtime

  Just installed and migrated a 2008 solution on Vista ultimate 64 and .net 4.0. Everything builds and tests run surprisingly well but I got the hang description below while trying to run the app under SQLite. It turns out that the hang has got something to do when the call is made for FNH to build the session factory during a run, the only feedback I get is that the database wasn't configure properly without any inner exception. The strange part is that the exact code works perfectly under tests. Any clues? Description: A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows. • What's the best version control system for handling projects with graphics?

  I'm part of a small team (usually just two people), I handle the code, he handles the graphic design. In the past I've used CVS to handle version control of the code files, and while we've included the graphics in the repository, he hasn't derived nearly as much value from it as I have. Are there other packages that provide the better features for supporting graphics? The system would need to have an easy to use GUI interface, as I don't think it's fair to expect a graphic designer to learn command-line tools. Additional aspect: The client software needs to run smoothly on OS X (for the designer), and Windows (for the programmer).

• Getting the starting shortcut in c#

  Lets say that I have an executable and when it is started I want to know how it's started. I.e. I would like to know if it is started with a shortcut or directly. With this: string test = Environment.GetCommandLineArgs()[0]; I can get the path of the executable, but this is always the same, even if it's started by a shortcut. Lets say my executable is named c:\text.exe and I start it directly, then test = 'c:\test.exe' If I create a shortcut i.e. c:\shortcut.lnk (with target c:\test.exe) I want test to be 'c:\shortcut.exe' but it is 'c:\test.exe' I strongly suspect this to be impossible because the OS handles the shortcut part and the executable never can see the difference, but maybe someone has a creative idea?

• Making php-mode Compatible with Emacs 23

  I am using Emacs 23 and php-mode.el 1.5.0. When I have this in my .emacs: (require 'php-mode) I get this error message when Emacs starts: Warning (initialization): An error occurred while loading `/Users/kdj/.emacs': error: `c-lang-defconst' must be used in a file To ensure normal operation, you should investigate and remove the cause of the error in your initialization file. Start Emacs with the `--debug-init' option to view a complete error backtrace. If I evaluate (require 'php-mode) after Emacs starts, I don't get any error messages. I found a blog entry which indicates that this problem is specific to Emacs 23 (that is, there is no error with Emacs 22.x), but it doesn't give any solutions. Don't know if this matters, but I'm using Mac OS X, and I built Emacs from the current CVS sources, using ./configure --with-ns. Anybody know what's going on here, and/or how I can fix it?

  I have built a static version of qt and download a static version of glibc. Now I would like to link glibc statically to my qt application. I know about going into the .pro and adding the line LIBS += -L path/to/static_lib but I am wondering if these that is enough? Will it still link glibc statically even though the OS I am building on has the dynamic libraries also? The reason I am doing this is to deploy the application in a standalone manner. (After installing and updating Red Hat 5.3 glibc_2.9 was not found on the target computer)

As far as I can see, encrypting the value is of no use as the key to the encryption mechanism must be available to the program and is thus available to an attacker reverse-engineering the code. So, it seems that the only "solution" is to hide the secret value in the application as well as possible, obviously not ideal. Any comments? Am I missing something?   I have set up a local Perl web environment on my Windows machine. The application I'm working on is originally from a Linux server, and so the shebang for source .pl files look like so: #!/usr/bin/perl This causes the following error on my Windows dev machine: (OS 2)The system cannot find the file specified. Is it possible to change my Apache 2 conf so that the shebang is ignored on my Windows machine? Of course I could set the shebang to #!c:\perl\bin\perl.exe, that much is obvious; but the problem comes to deploying the updated files. Clearly it would be very inconvenient to change this back on each deploy. I am using ActivePerl on Windows 7. Update: I should have mentioned that I need to keep the shebang so that the scripts will work on our shared hosting Linux production server. If I did not have this constraint and I didn't have to use the shebang, the obvious answer would be to just not use it.

  There are apparently at least three different techniques for changing screen brightness in the Android OS. Two of them no longer work post-cupcake and the third accepted technique evidently has a bug. I would like to increase screen brightness at the start of a one-view activity then turn the brightness back to the user setting at the end of the activity. No buttons, no second view or second activity. Just a maxed brightness at start and a return to original brightness setting at the end of the activity. The examples of the current technique using WindowManager.LayoutParams that I have located range from 2 lines of code WindowManager.LayoutParams lp = getWindow().getAttributes(); lp.screenBrightness = 100 / 100.0f; getWindow().setAttributes(lp); to several pages of source code and numerous activities. • Session persistence problem

  Hello I'm having a problem with getting sessions to persist, and having no luck searching, I need to ask. I can access the contents of my session as expected when first set, but as soon as the page refreshes I lose everything and I don't see why. session_start() is set and I'm not unseting or destroying anything. I looked at PHP Info under sessions and everything looks ok (but my understanding of sessions is limited). I'm running MAMP on OS 10.5, and the last time I used sessions they worked.

• How to make python_select work for '$>python' command?

  I installed a couple of pythons in different versions with macports, and the apple python 2.6 is also working. Now I need to run a program which requires MySQLdb package support in python, and this package was installed to the python I installed by macports. The program tells me that there is no MySQLdb installed, so I guess it is the apple python working for that program. I searched for some help and found python_select for switching between pythons. However after the command $>sudo python_select python25 told me that it selected the version "python25" for python, when I type $>python it is still apple python 2.6 that launches. The question is that how can I make python25(the one with MySQLdb) work for the program rather than apple python? Another important thing, the program is NOT a .py file and needs to be compiled before running. So do I need to re-install this program? My Mac OS version is Snow Leopard 10.6. Any answer is appreciated.

  How would one go about keep an object in memory such that it won't be paged out by the OS in .Net? i.e. Something similar to VirtualLock, but operating on an object, such that if compacting occurs and the object is moved it still would not be paged out, etc.. (I suppose one could pin the object's, determine what pages it belongs to, and then VirtualLock those pages, but that seems non-desireable for many reasons.)
