• How to create an "endless" scrolling slideshow?

  I know a good bit of JS and I'm familiar with jQuery, and I'm trying to create an "endless" slideshow (like the one on http://thisismedium.com/), where the images scroll -- one right behind the other -- and when it reaches the end it loops. I don't really know how to start, so I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I created a slideshow before that automatically switched images and let you click Next and Previous, but I'm stuck here. =/.

• Communicate between content script and options page

  I have seen many questions already and all are about background page to content script. Summary My extension has an options page, and a content script. The content script handles the storage functionality (chrome.storage manipulation). Whenever, a user changes a setting in the options page, I want to send a message to the content script to store the new data.   Hi, Regarding to jQuery utility function jQuery.data() the online documentation says: "The jQuery.data() method allows us to attach data of any type to DOM elements in a way that is safe from circular references and therefore from memory leaks. " Why to use: document.body.foo = 52; can result a memory leak -or in what conditions- so that I should use jQuery.data(document.body, 'foo', 52); Should I ALWAYS prefer .data() instead of using expandos in any case?   I am using jQuery and my js file thats calling a jquery function resides in totally different directory than jQuery is in. I need to call this function reloadPage like this from js file reloadPage({param1:'First Parameter', param2:ID}); but it gives me an error Line: 341 Error: Object doesn't support this property or method Line 341 is reloadPage({param1:'First Parameter', param2:ID});. What can I do to run this function from outside the directory? I tried parent.reloadPage({param1:'First Parameter', param2:ID}); But that didnt work either.

• Disabling Firefox spell checking in iframe-based text editors

  There is a lot of info around about how to disable spell checking in html textarea element by using spellcheck='false'. However to have text area with more advanced capabilities, one must use iframe with designMode = "on" (see e.g. this page, this is a way that RichTextArea is implemented in GWT) and I couldn't find a single post on that topic. It turns out that Firefox detects such advanced text areas and enables its spell checking in them. You can see it live by visiting this page from Firefox and entering some content to text field. If you inspect this code, you'll see no textarea tag, yet FF spell checking is still active. The only way I managed to disable it was setting designMode to off but... I need it to be on. The question is: Is there any possibility to disable spell checking in such cases, without setting designMode = "off"?

  I'm trying to bind Fancy box links so that when the new links are created it will still work. I've seen a few other question on here but not really answered. This is what I'm trying to do. jQuery("a#[id^='domore_']").fancybox({ 'autoDimensions' : false, 'width' : 'auto', 'height' : 'auto' }); This works fine but when the page or links are reloaded by ajax it doesn't work. I tried using live() but I couldn't get it to work. How do you rebind or implement live on fancybox? Any way to do this? Thanks

• Do any browsers yet support HTML5's checkValidity() method?

  The HTML5 spec defines some very interesting validation components, including pattern (for validating against a Regexp) and required (for marking a field as required). As best I can tell, however, no browser yet actually does any validation based on these attributes. I found a comparison of HTML5 support across engines, but there is no information about validation there. In the browsers I've tried (Firefox 3.5.8 and Safari 4.0.4), no object has a checkValidity() method, so I can't run the validations even though I can define them. Is there any support for this feature out there so I can experiment?

  I am looking to do the following Disallow text selection inside of an input element Do not show the cursor carrot inside of an input i cannot simply blur the input on click, focus must remain in the input. There is probably a way to do this in just IE, i would of course rather have a cross browser solution but ill settle for IE (or FF) only solution. • How to use Firebug's debugger functions?

  I don't have an experience with any debugger in any language, but I recently found some videos showing Firebug. I'm now playing with Firebug with a script I included an error with. What I understand now is: I can set a breakpoint, which is shown as a red circle. Firebug stops at the breakpoint and gives me 4 options (Continue, Step Into, Step Over and Step Out). What I don't understand are: What is the difference between the 4 options (i.e., Continue, Step Into, Step Over and Step Out)? To me, Step Over is sometimes similar to Step Into... I could be wrong here. I would be grateful if you could explain the differences of the 4 options.

• Saving jQuery UI Sortable's order to Backbone.js Collection

  I have a Backbone.js collection that I would like to be able to sort using jQuery UI's Sortable. Nothing fancy, I just have a list that I would like to be able to sort. The problem is that I'm not sure how to get the current order of items after being sorted and communicate that to the collection. Sortable can serialize itself, but that won't give me the model data I need to give to the collection. Ideally, I'd like to be able to just get an array of the current order of the models in the collection and use the reset method for the collection, but I'm not sure how to get the current order. Please share any ideas or examples for getting an array with the current model order.

• Raphael Scope Drag n drop multiple paper instances

  I have two Raphael paper instances. In both I want to drag and drop an element (circle). It is important for me to assign both these circles the same id. I expected no problem, as both are in different paper instances and therefore in different scope. What happens is, that somehow both elements react, when I have clicked both elements at least once. If I however give these elements different IDs everything works fine (each element only calls its "start", "drag" and "up" function if draged around). Is this intended behaviour of Raphael and do I have to assign different IDs to the elements in the different paper instances? • Chrome Extension: How to display tab objects?

  I am in the process of designing an extension for Google Chrome that helps to organize tabs (I know, there are many that already exist; that doesn't matter). I wish to open a popup window that will display tabs as objects (i.e., in the same way that it is displayed in the tab bar at the top of the browser). One way of doing this would be to pull various details (ID, Title, URL, etc.) from each tab, create a class and make instantiations of it upon the opening of each tab using these data, but this seems rather convoluted considering that what I want is sitting right there in the tab bar. Is there any simpler way to achieve this? In addition, I have seen several apps that utilize page previews. Is there something in the API that allows direct access to these?

• N-son tabbed/JsScrollbar, trying to force gif play from click of link using jquery

  Hello everyone, Let me start off by stating the obvious; I am new here. That said I hope I am not violating some standard I missed by posting this. xD For several days now I've been trying to update a rather old site of mine, to which I wont link to given that the update is so drastic that the current product on which I seek your help for doesn't resemble the old site in any other way then appearance. Anywho! I am using the tabbed div and JsScrollbar created by N-son (http://www.downloadjavascripts.com/list/javasitek60/Details.aspx) and so far have only used jquery to dynamically center content on the page. My problem however is this...I have a gif on the page that acts as a background (it's not tiled) and I'd like to be able to have it so that when you click on one of the links used in n-sons tabs (EX: news) it also causes the gif to load and play through itself once. So far all my attempts at accomplishing this myself have failed and break wither the scrollbar or prevent the content from switching when you click the tabs. (Except for one failed attempt where it all worked fine except the handle for the scrollbar would vanish upon switching tabs) I hope I've been clear in this and that someone is able to help. I know it may seem like a silly question but we're all new at some point. :P If need be I'll upload what coding I have but it is not pretty. Thank you in advance.

  i am trying to make the preloading work in such a way that the components i wish to preload start to load after successfully loading the page. for example, i have index.php. i want it to load up completely. as soon as it loads up i want to start loading the other components. to make things clear. i have a nav that makes use of large size images. if i load them along with the index.php file, it would increase load up time of the page. i wish for those large images to load after completely rendering index.php? am i making sense? is it possible?

  Good evening, I am in the process of writing a Java Servlet (Struts 2, Tomcat, JSP etc) which is capable of doing some fairly complex simulations. These can take up to 2 minutes to complete on the and will return a graph of the results. It is trivial to calculate the percentage of the simulation completed because the process works by repeating the same calculations 1000s of times. I would be interested to know if anyone has ever tried to use client side technology to provide any estimate of the percentage complete. I.e query the servlet processing to get the number of cycles completed at various point throughout the simulation. This could then be displayed as a bar in the client browser. Any thoughts, advice, resources would be much appreciated. Thanks, Alex

BACKGROUND Previously there were only about 50 showrooms carrying a product we sell, so a static HTML page was fine. • Binding jQuery UI plugin after $.load

My problem comes in when I load form elements using $.load(). I cannot attach the DatePicker to any of the loaded elements. For example: $("#id").load("urlToLoad", function() { bindDatepicker($("input.date")); }); Loads the form elements into a div just fine, but will not attach the DatePicker. Why is this?
