  • Do encryption algorithms require an internal hashing algorithm?

    When I use C# to implement the AES symmetric encryption cipher, I noticed: PasswordDeriveBytes derivedPassword = new PasswordDeriveBytes(password, saltBytesArray, hashAlgorithmName, numPasswordIterations); Why do I need to use a hashing algorithm for AES encryption? Aren't they separate? Or is the hashing algorithm only used to create a secure key? The AES algorithm doesn't use a hashing algorithm internally does it?

  • Segmentation fault when creating a Phonon MediaObject

    I have music playing program made using PySide which uses Phonon to playback audio. I updated to MacOS X Mavericks a few days ago, which meant I needed to reinstall PySide. I'm not sure which of these actions has caused this, but now whenever I try to create a Phonon MediaObject I get a Segmentation Fault: 11 from Python. It's not just in my program, it happens when trying to create a MediaObject in Python without any other actions. I want the SVProgressHUB to be displayed during this hang time, how can I do this?

  • Oracle JDBC connection exception in Solaris but not Windows?

    I have some Java code that connects to an Oracle database using DriverManager.getConnection(). It works just fine on my Windows XP machine.   • Force sharepoint to ask for authentication

    Is there a way to force sharepoint 2010 to popup the dialog to ask the user for a username and password and not use the computers logged in user, if that user doesn't have access. We need an internal sharepoint website to not use the windows credentials, since these are computers used by many people. The windows user doesn't have access to the site, so currently it shows an access denied, click here to log in as another user. We would prefer if it just asked for credentials in a more graceful manner.

From the command prompt I can run the command <mysqInstallDir\/bin\mysql.exe -u <userName> -p <password> < scripts\create_tables.sql I can invoke mysql.exe using Runtime.exec but how do I redirect data from sql file to mysql.exe ?

How feasible would it be to create Native applications for either Windows, Mac, or Linux which made extensive use of this technique? (I know that there are GUI libraries like wxHaskell, but suppose one wanted to just have a portion of your application logic in the foreign language.) Or is this a terrible idea?

    I know there's a Rest API to check the Twitter rate limit. To summarize policy: 150 for an IP, and 150 per non-whitelisted account except for searches (which are IP only). However, my app is using Twython, authenticated, but the limit seems to decrease for both my accounts as I use it.   • Debugging in XCode as root

    In my program I need to create sockets and bind them to listen HTTP port (80). The program works fine when I launch it from command line with sudo, escalating permissions to root. Running under XCode gives a 'permission denied' error on the call to binding function (asio::ip::tcp::acceptor::bind()). How can I do debugging under XCode? All done in C++ and boost.asio on Mac OS X 10.5 with XCode 3.1.2.
