  I am getting a repeated error with VS 9. The code compiles under GNU C++, but I want debug with the VS IDE. Any idea what could be causing this error. • Call bindings for DependencyObject when DependencyProperites are changed

  Is there a way to notify a DependencyObject's bindinigs when the inner DependencyProperties have changed? But I also have a binding for a BackgroundDef instance, which should create a Brush and draw the background of a button (either a single color, or two gradient colors). My problem is that the two-way bindings for the DependencyProperties update the properties, but the binding for the class instance is not called, as apparently the entire object does not change. Any idea how I could call the bindings for the DependencyObject when the DependencyProperties are changed?

• ASP.NET Content Web Form - content from placeholder disappears

  I'm attempting to set a class on the body tag in my asp.net site which uses a master page and content web forms. I simply want to be able to do this by adding a bodycssclass property (see below) to the content web form page directive. It works through the solution below but when i attempt to view Default.aspx the Content1 control loses its content. Any ideas why? Here is how I'm doing it. • Setting up a "cookieless domain" to improve site performance

  I was reading in Google's documentation about improving site speed. One of their recommendations is serving static content (images, css, js, etc.) from a "cookieless domain": Static content, such as images, JS and CSS files, don't need to be accompanied by cookies, as there is no user interaction with these resources. You can decrease request latency by serving static resources from a domain that doesn't serve cookies. Google then says that the best way to do this is to buy a new domain and set it to point to your current one: To reserve a cookieless domain for serving static content, register a new domain name and configure your DNS database with a CNAME record that points the new domain to your existing domain A record. Configure your web server to serve static resources from the new domain, and do not allow any cookies to be set anywhere on this domain. In your web pages, reference the domain name in the URLs for the static resources. This is pretty straight forward stuff, except for the bit where it says to "configure your web server to serve static resources from the new domain, and do not allow any cookies to be set anywhere on this domain". From what I've read, there's no setting in IIS that allows you to say "serve static resources", so how do I prevent ASP.NET from setting cookies on this new domain? At present, even if I'm just requesting a .jpg from the new domain, it sets a cookie on my browser, even though our application's cookies are set to our old domain. For example, ASP.NET sets an ".ASPXANONYMOUS" cookie that (as far as I'm aware) we're not telling it to do. Apologies if this is a real newb question, I'm new at this! Thanks.

• Get id when inserting new row using TableAdapter.Update on a file based database

  I have a database table with one field, called ID, being an auto increment integer. Using a TableAdapter I can read and modify existing rows as well as create new ones. However if I try to modify a newly inserted row I get an DBConcurrencyException: OleDbConnection conn = new OleDbConnection(@"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=Shift.mdb;Persist Security Info=True"); ShiftDataSetTableAdapters.ShiftTableAdapter shiftTA = new ShiftDataSetTableAdapters.ShiftTableAdapter(); shiftTA.Connection = conn; ShiftDataSet.ShiftDataTable table = new ShiftDataSet.ShiftDataTable(); ShiftDataSet.ShiftRow row = table.NewShiftRow(); row.Name = "life"; table.Rows.Add(row); shiftTA.Update(row); // row.ID == -1 row.Name = "answer"; // <-- all fine up to here shiftTA.Update(row); // DBConcurrencyException: 0 rows affected Separate question, is there any static type of the NewShiftRow() method I can use so that I don't have to create table everytime I want to insert a new row. I guess the problem in the code comes from row.ID that is still -1 after the first Update() call. The Insert is successful and in the database the row has a valid value of ID. How can I get that ID so that I can continue with the second Update call? Update: IT looks like this could have been done automatically using this setting. However according to the answer on msdn social, OLEDB drivers do not support this feature. Not sure where to go from here, use something else than oledb? Update: Tried SQLCompact but discovered that it had the same limitation, it does not support multiple statements. Final question: is there any simple(single file based) database that would allow you to get the values of a inserted row.

• Record/Playback with AudioQueue on iPhone

  Hi, I am currently using Audio Queues on the iPhone to record and playback audio. What I would like to be able to do is to record some audio, allow the user to pause the record queue, and to seek back and forward through the audio to select a position from where they can start recording from again. I have got over the seeking issue by making the playback AudioQueueBuffer sizes small enough so that the play audio queue callback happens at a rate that allows the user to use a slider control to hear the audio as they adjust the slider back and forth. I think I can achieve the recording at a new position by setting the inStartingPacket parameter of the AudioFileWritePackets function that I call from the Audio Recording Queue callback. The trouble is this only inserts audio over the previously recorded audio. The file length obviously doesn't change so if the user were to go backwards and record less audio than before, the old audio still remains after the end of the newly recorded audio. Is there a way I can get the AudioFile to truncate at the point the user starts to insert the new audio, is there some other way I can remove the old audio starting at the insert position or is there a better way about going about this task? • Does replace into have a where clause?

  I'm writing an application and I'm using MySQL as DBMS, we are downloading property offers and there were some performance issues. The old architecture looked like this: A property is updated. If the number of affected rows is not 1, then the update is not considered successful, elseway the update query solves our problem. If the update was not successful, and the number of affected rows is more than 1, we have duplicates and we delete all of them. After we deleted duplicates if needed if the update was not successful, an insert happens. This architecture was working well, but there were some speed issues, because properties are deleted if they were not updated for 15 days. Theoretically the main problem is deleting properties, because some properties are alive for months and the indexes are very far from each other (we are talking about 500, 000+ properties). Our host told me to use replace into instead of deleting properties and all deprecated properties should be considered as DEAD. I've done this, but problems started to occur because of syntax error and I couldn't find anywhere an example of replace into with a where clause (I'd like to replace a DEAD property with the new property instead of deleting the old property and insert a new to assure optimization). My query looked like this: replace into table_name(column1, ..., columnn) values(value1, ..., valuen) where ID = idValue Of course, I've calculated idValue and handled everything but I had a syntax error. I would like to know if I'm wrong and there is a where clause for replace into. I've found an alternative solution, which is even better than replace into (using simply an update query) because deletes are happening behind the curtains if I use replace into, but I would like to know if I'm wrong when I say that replace into doesn't have a where clause. • Automatic Adjusting Range Table

  I have a table with a start date range, an end date range, and a few other additional columns. On input of a new record, I want to automatically adjust any overlapping date ranges (shrinking them to allow for the new input). I also want to ensure that no overlapping records can accidentally be inserted into this table. I'm using Oracle and Java for my application code. How should I enforce the prevention of overlapping date ranges and also allow for automatically adjusting overlapping ranges? Should I create an AFTER INSERT trigger, with a dbms_lock to serialize access, to prevent the overlapping data. Then in Java, apply the logic to auto adjust everything? Or should that part be in PL/SQL in stored procedure call? This is something that we need for a couple other tables so it'd be nice to abstract. • C# COM objects with VB6/asp error

  I'm trying to expose a C# class library via COM so that I can use it in a classic asp web site. I've used sn - k, regasm and gacutil. About all I can do now though is echo back strings. Methods which take Class variables as input are not working for me. ie my test method EchoPerson(Person p) which returns a string of the first and last name doesn't work. I get a runtime error 5 - Invalid procedure call or argument. Please let me know what I am missing. Also I have no intellisence in VB. What do I need to do to get the intellisence working. • Android SMS API

  I know that the SMS content provider is not part of the public API (at least not documented), but if I understand correctly it's still possible to use many of the SMS features as long as you know how to use the API(?). E.g it's pretty straightforward to insert an SMS into your inbox: ContentValues values = new ContentValues(); values.put("address", "+457014921911"); contentResolver.insert(Uri.parse("content://sms"), values); Unfortunately this does not trigger the standard "new-SMS-in-your-inbox" notification. Is it possible to trigger this manually? Edit: AFAIK the "standard mail application (Messaging)" in Android is listening for incoming SMSes using the android.permission.RECEIVE_SMS permission. And then, when a new SMS has arrived, a status bar notification is inserted with a "special" notification id. So one solution to my problem (stated above) could be to find, and send the correct broadcast intent; something like "NEW SMS HAS ARRIVED"-intent. Edit: Downloaded a third party messaging application (chompsms) from Android market. This application satisfies my needs better. When i execute the code above the chompsms notice the new sms and shows the "standard status bar notification". So I would say that the standard Android Messaging application is not detecting sms properly? Or am I wrong?

Set the default namespace and target of the schema to the URI test.com/test1" I am doing: <xc:schema xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns="http://test.com/test1" targetNamespace="http://test.com/test1"> </xc:schema> Is this correct? The next one is: "insert the root schema element, declaring the XML schema namespace with the xc prefix. Declare the library namespace using the lib prefix and the contributors namespace using the cont prefix. Set the default namespace and the schema target to URI test.com/test2" The library URI is http://test.com/library and contributor URI is test.com/contributor I am doing: <xc:schema xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:lib="http://test.com/library" xmlns:clist="http://test.com/contributor" targetNamespace="http://test.com/test2"> </xc:schema> Does this look right? • Multi-base conversion - using all combinations for URL shortener

  I am making an URL shortener, and I am struggling with the optimal way of encoding a number (id) into a character string. I am using the characters 0-9,A-Z,a-z so it will basically be a base-62 encoding. That is pretty basic, but it doesn't make use of all possible codes. The codes that it would produce would be: 0, 1, ... y, z, 10, 11, ... zy, zz, 100, 101, ... Notice that the codes 00 to 0z is not used, the same for 000 to 0zz, and so on. I would like to use all the codes, like this: 0, 1, ... y, z, 00, 01, ... zy, zz, 000, 001, ... It would be some combination of base-62 and base-63, with different bases depending on the position... • How can I get the correct DisplayMetrics from an AppWidget in Android?

  I need to determine the screen density at runtime in an Android AppWidget. I've set up an HDPI emulator device (avd). If set up a regular executable project, and insert this code into the onCreate method: DisplayMetrics dm = getResources().getDisplayMetrics(); Log.d("MyTag", "screen density " + dm.densityDpi); This outputs "screen density 240" as expected. However, if I set up an AppWidget project, and insert this code into the onUpdate method: DisplayMetrics dm = context.getResources().getDisplayMetrics(); Log.d("MyTag", "screen density " + dm.densityDpi); This outputs "screen density 160". I noticed, hooking up the debugger, that the mDefaultDisplay member of the Resources object here is null in the AppWidget case. Similarly, if I get a resource at runtime using the Resources object obtained from context.getResources() in the AppWidget, it returns the wrong resource based on screen density. For instance, I have a 60x60px drawable for mdpi, and an 80x80 drawable for hdpi. If I get this Drawable object using context.getResources().getDrawable(...), it returns the 60x60 version. Is there any way to correctly deal with resources at runtime from the context of an AppWidget? Thanks!

  Hi, I am building REST API in php with memcache layer on top for caching all resources. After some reading experience it turns out it's best when documents are as simple as posible...mainly due to dropping cache sequences. So if there is 'building','room' entities for the 'room' document I would only place the id of the 'building' and not the whole data of it. Then on api client side I would merge data as needed. Problem becomes when I need to update/insert (most cases more than one table). I update one resource but on second update system fails or whatever and there becomes database inconsistancies. I see several solutions: 1. Implement rest transactions which I find wrong and complex as idea is to be stateless and easy. 2. On update/insert actions I pass more complex data (not single entities) so I can force transactions on API level. But this will make it weird that your GET document structure is same as PUT document structure. And again somehow make drop sequences complex. Any pointers are more than welcome. Cheers,

I have a query in LINQ, I want to get MAX of Code of my table and increase it and insert new record with new Code. just like the IDENTITY feature of SQL Server, but here my Code column is char(5) where can be alphabets and numeric. My problem is when inserting a new row, two concurrent processes get max and insert an equal Code to the record. my command is: var maxCode = db.Customers.Select(c=>c.Code).Max(); var anotherCustomer = db.Customers.Where(...).SingleOrDefault(); anotherCustomer.Code = GenerateNextCode(maxCode); db.SubmitChanges(); I ran this command cross 1000 threads and each updating 200 customers, and used a Transaction with IsolationLevel.Serializable, after two or three execution an error occured: using (var db = new DBModelDataContext()) { DbTransaction tran = null; try { db.Connection.Open(); tran = db.Connection.BeginTransaction(IsolationLevel.Serializable); db.Transaction = tran; . . . . tran.Commit(); } catch { tran.Rollback(); } finally { db.Connection.Close(); } } error: Transaction (Process ID 60) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction. other IsolationLevels generates this error: Row not found or changed. Please help me, thank you.

• Infopath - Repeating sections

  I have struggled with this for 2 days and posted this question at a couple of other sites but with no luck. I am creating a form as follows. I have an "outer" repeating section in which the user enters a work item id and then selects as many names as he/she wishes from a series of drop down lists. When the user clicks a button (also in this "outer" repeating section), Feedback textboxes are added for each name selected, as well as text boxes with the names selected from the drop down appear above the those provided for feedback. I used the XPathNavigator.Clone() method to create the new feedback textboxes and textboxes that display the user's name that was selected. (The username textbox appears above the respective feedback textbox). This did the trick, but there is a problem. The user should be able to click "Insert item" on the outer repeating section to add another work item wherein he/she may again select as many names as they wish from the series of drop downs, click a button, and have feedback and user name text boxes appear for each name selected from the drop down box associated with the current work item, (i.e, "outer" repeating section). I clicked Insert Item on the "outer" repeating section and selected 2 names from the second series of drop downs, but when I try to clone a node, it is added at the end of the previous repeating section. I don't know how to navigate into (for lack of a better term) subsequent repeating sections. I am using InfoPath 2007 and I am aware that the current() method call is implicit, but this still doesn't work. I'm thinking I need to set up a Rule somewhere, but I am not sure how to do that. Any help would be appreciated.

  I am storing values and date values in a record store. I have my date field set up like this: StartDate = new DateField("Start Date ", DateField.DATE); cal1 = Calendar.getInstance(); cal1.set(Calendar.YEAR, 2009); cal1.set(Calendar.MONTH, 0); cal1.set(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH, 1); StartDate.setDate(cal1.getTime()); and I save the date as a string as follows: strStartDate = cal1.get(cal1.DAY_OF_MONTH) + "/" + (cal1.get(cal1.MONTH) + 1) + "/" + cal1.get(cal1.YEAR); String detailsToAdd = strStartDate (I have shortened the code.) Now, I want to be able to edit the date at a future stage. However, I need the code to be able to do this. So far I have: EStartDate = new DateField("Start Date ", DateField.DATE); I had to change the name of the DateField box as this was conflicting with other things. I basically need to be able to show the selected record's date attribute. I currently have the other information displayed. I just need to be able to show the correct date. When I run the program the date field says <date>. Any help will be nice

  This is the input string 23x * y34x2. I want to insert " * " (star surrounded by whitespaces) after every number followed by letter, and after every letter followed by number. So my input string would look like this: 23 * x * y * 34 * x * 2. This is the regex that does the job: @"\d(?=[a-z])|a-z". This is the function that I wrote that inserts the " * ".
