• Sending Facebook notifications

  Hey i have a little facebook iframe application written with rails and the facebooker plugin. I can loop through the users friends and see whether they also have this application. To do this I use a fql qeury, and my own html (no fbml). Now i want to create a button right beside every friend who doesn't have this app, that sends an invite massage. Is it possible to do this without this FBML/JS voodoo? I looked through the RESTful api but the only thing i could found was this deprecated method :( Can someone provide me an code example on how to do this? I really don't want to use this FBML stuff because it doesn't fit into the ui concept of the app, but if that the only way, please explain how to do this (every fbml tag I've tried is just invisible :( ) Thanks a lot.

• Environment variable does not get read?

  I have a console application in Visual studio. i have log4net stuff with smtp appender in my app.config file. I have set environment variable in my code (i.e. my email address) and trying to reference this environment variable to send email. However log4net doesn't seem to read this value when the application is run. • Google Search api for Android systems

  Hi, I'm trying to build an android app that would do a local search on google. I know there is a Google Search API for Java, and I am able to use it for a desktop application. However, when I use the same jar file (gsearch.jar) in my android project, Some problems arise. When I call the .localSearch() method of my gsearch.Client object, a runtime error is occurring. The error message is: "java.lang.VerifyError: gsearch.Client". This message is occurring in the Dalvik Debug Monitor log. So what is the problem here? Can I not use the search API on the android? More importantly, how do I do a local search from an android app? Does the android sdk have search APIs inbuilt? I could only find the Maps api, and Map search is not what I'm looking for.. • MapViewOfFile shared between 32bit and 64bit processes

  Hi, I'm trying to use MapViewOfFile in a 64 bit process on a file that is already mapped to memory of another 32 bit process. It fails and gives me an "access denied" error. Is this a known Windows limitation or am I doing something wrong? Same code works fine with 2 32bit processes. • Anti-aliasing not working when resizing a UIWebView

  I'd like to add a Web View to my app at 60% scale (like seen in Safari in the browse other windows view): Notice how the content looks nice and Aliased!   I was thinking about something. I want to install a 7gb partition and store 2 compress disk image and install linux to it. I want it to be light. What i would like to do is hide the grub loader (or anything) and if i want to reformat my PC press a certain key on startup. Which will then load the linux OS and then i can use dd to restore the partition i want I plan to use windows XP and windows 7 as my main OS and virtualize anything else i need (vista, dummy XP for testing, multiple linux distos, etc). Bonus points if you can tell me how to hide the partition in windows so XP and 7 cant touch it

Understand the beauty of creating layout in XML file, but lost how to access various elements, especially a View element to draw on it. Now this is most likely because you missed the fact that I am a newbie and assuming I can fill in any blanks. I hope somebody can break this down for me and provide a solution, and perhaps explain why I can't just create a View element in my main.xml layotu file and draw on it in code.

  There seem to be a few plugins...and I'm using webstorm file watcher which also precompiles individual files. I think this may not be the best way to setup a watcher. I'm running this command now: sass --no-cache --update --stop-on-error --trace ./app/sass:./app/css It seems to conflict with the webstorm file watch, which appears to be appending everything to base.css. Can someone tell me what exactly this command is doing vs. a sass filewatcher in webstorm? What's the best way to work with sass: precompile my sass to css using a grunt build task and have file watchers while developing? • Will OpenGL give me any FPS improvement over CoreAnimation for scrolling a large image?

  Hi, I'm considering re-writing the menu system of my iPhone app to use Open GL just to improve the smoothness of scrolling a big image (480x1900px) across the screen. I'm looking at doing this as a way to improve on using the method/solution as described here (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1443140/smoother-uiview). This solution was a big improvement over the previous implementation but it's still not perfect and as this is the first thing the user will see I'd like it to be as flawless as possible. Will switching to OpenGL give me the sort of smooth scrolling I'm looking for? I've stayed clear of OpenGL until now as this is my first app and core animation has handled everything else I've thrown at it well enough, would be good to know if this alternative implementation is likely to work! thanks

  "the user profile service failed the logon" i had gotten this error when trying to login last night. i looked it up online and found that this was caused by an error (that is still unfound, apparently) that is causing windows to mark profiles as backup, and that the best way to fix this error is to do a system restore from the repair your computer special boot option. what i would like to know is if there someone happens to know the cause of this error, as i would not like it to happen again. Computer specifications OS: Windows 7 hard-disk check completely clean "repair startup" scan and fix: clean, no problems virus scans with kaspersky: clean (while not the usual information for specifications, i felt this info was more important for this case, any other information can be asked for.

• How do I call window.openDatabase from a webView hosted in an android application?

  I created a native Android app that basically hosts a webView control. That webView is then used to load a page that calls window.openDatabase from JavaScript. I can successfully confirm that the API exists by verifying window.openDatabase. Calling this method returns a null when called in a hosted webView control. Calling the same method in the Android Browser returns an instance of the database. Does anyone know the permessions in the manifest or settings on the webView control that need to be set to access the database? Is this even possible in a native app.

• MSBuild Override Project Reference to resolve to Precompiled Assembly

  Situation I have about 400 csproj files using project references. About 3 of those a separate team wants to fork and incorporate into a standalone app. I branched the 3 projects of interest, and because the separate team uses a diff SVN repo I used svn externals to pull in these projects into the folder of the standalone app. Obviously since this team uses a different folder structure the project references no longer resolve. Attempted Solution I figured setting the msbuild properties ReferencePath and AdditionalLibPaths to point to a directory with all the precompiled dependencies would allow the project references a fallback point and resolve correctly. However that doesn't appear to be the case. Question Does anybody know a way to have a failed projectreference look up resolve to the precompiled dll? Perhaps point me to an automated tool to convert projectreferences to dll references? Or is there a better way to solve this problem? Thanks

  I've applied for an internship at a startup company that expects its user base to grow by a large factor in a small amount of time, and so part of their project is to scale everything up so that they're ready: handling more/larger requests efficiently, handling server failures, load balancing, getting more JavaScript to run faster on the client computers, etc. Part of my job will also be figuring out what to do, so it's not obvious what my exact task will be at the moment. I was told that I should start reading up a little more about this so that I would have a little bit of an idea of what to do. What are some good books for me to read on this topic? I have a little bit of experience with the usage of MySQL (and also a little experience with web development), but in no way do I claim any knowledge on the internal workings of databases or distributed systems, so I might need readings more on the introductory side.

• Possible to restore Windows Partition disk image?

  I have a machine that was dual-booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04. I used the Disks program in Ubuntu to make a disk image of my windows partition which I saved on an external disk. I then reformatted the main drive and installed Ubuntu 12.10. I created a spare partition and restored that Windows disk image to that partition. Is it possible to boot Windows? I have run boot-repair and Grub now gives me both Ubuntu and Windows options but when I select Windows I get only a black screen with blinking cursor. I ran a Windows recovery disk and ran startup repair but still no luck. I also tried running lilo inside Ubuntu but still can't boot Windows. Any other ideas? PS, I'm on a Netbook with no DVD drive so I can't just reinstall Windows though if that is my only option I can borrow a DVD eventually.

It has to do with the way the shared Resources files on the Web project are linked to from my new SL client project (the SL client project that was generated by the Business App template works fine). The same problem was brought up in the SL forums but copying the Web folder from my existing SL client doesn't seem to work. How can I add a second SL client project using RIA services to the solution of an existing SL Business Application without these problems over shared resources? Should I avoid the Business Application solution template for solutions with multiple SL clients since it seems to presume only a single client app will be sharing the resource files?

  I would like to deep link directly to a GWT app page within a Facebook iFrame Canvas. The first part is simple using GWT's History token with URLs like: http://www.example.com/MyApp/#page1 which would open page1 within my app. Facebook Apps use an application url like: http://apps.facebook.com/myAppName which frames my Canvas Callback URL http://www.example.com/MyApp/ Is there a way to specify a canvas callback url (or bookmark url) which will take the user to a specific page rather than the index page? Why? you may ask. Besides all the benefits of deep links... I want the "Go To Application" url to take users to an index page w/ marketing material (the canvas callback url) I want the "Bookmark URL" to take (likely returning) users to a login page and bypass downloading the marketing content (and that huge SWF file).

  I have a non-daemon server app that my windows 2003 server needs to run all the time. The problem is, every time the server restarts, be it electricity or windows update, someone needs to press ctrl alt del and enter username/password. Then the program starts, as it's in startup. How do I make windows 2003 to automatically log in to administrator or spawn a terminal services session every time the system boots? I know it's against the nature of servers and all. But this is the only thing the server does.

• XenServer: Editing clone configuration before boot

  Upon cloning a base image, I need to reconfigure basic settings. Regenerating the ssh host key, changing static IP assignments, setting the host name, etc. Because of the network setup, DHCP is not an option. That more or less rules out SSHing in with a predefined key or running a startup script since I can't provide the IP externally. I'd most like to mount the filesystem of the new machine on Dom0, but the lvm volumes are exported and it appears to be Bad Form to import them so the Dom0 machine can see them. What's your best suggestion for altering files in a cloned VM before boot? Must be non-interactive, and I'm going to guess out the gate that scripting access via xe console is not going to work well.
