• Make NSFormatter validate NSTextFieldCell continuously

  In Cocoa, I have an NSOutlineView where the cells are NSTextFieldCell. The cell displays values which are strings that are formatted according to certain rules (such as floats or pairs of floats with a space in between). I have made a custom NSFormatter to validate the text, and this seems to work with no problem. However, the cell (or the outline view, I'm unsure what is causing this) only seems to use the formatter at the moment my editing would end. If I type some alphabetic characters into the text field (which violates the formatting rules), these characters show up -- the only way I notice the formatter doing its job is that I'm now prevented from moving keyboard focus away from this cell. If I return the contents of the cell to a valid form, then I can move focus away. I have set both the cell and the outline view to be "continuous". It would be better if I was unable to enter text into the cell in the first place. Is it possible to make it like that, and if so, how?

• Django file uploads - Just can't work it out

  OK I give up - after 5 solid hours trying to get a django form to upload a file, I've checked out all the links in stackoverflow and googled and googled. Why is it so hard, I just want it to work like the admin file upload? So I get that I need code like: if submitForm.is_valid(): handle_uploaded_file(request.FILES['attachment']) obj = submitForm.save() and I can see my file in request.FILES['attachment'] (yes I have enctype set) but what am I supposed to do in handle_uploaded_file? The examples all have a fixed file name but obviously I want to upload the file to the directory I defined in the model, but I can't see where I can find that. def handle_uploaded_file(f): destination = open('fyi.xml', 'wb+') for chunk in f.chunks(): destination.write(chunk) destination.close() Bet I'm going to feel really stupid when someone points out the obvious!

  Hi Everyone, I have a working Rails application on version 2.3.5 - I am using many to many model relations and have got almost everything working. What I would like to do is on my new kase page show the most recent kase job ref at the top. So for example, if I created a new kase with a job ref of "001", if I then went to create a new kase it would show at the top "Your previous kases reference was 001". I have the field of jobref in the new kase form, so I am trying to workout what I need to do to output only the last jobref. If that makes sense! Thanks, Danny

• Looking for the most painless non-RDBMS storage method in C#

  I'm writing a simple program that will run entirely client-side. (Desktop programming? do people still do that?) and I need a simple way to store trivial amounts of data in a structured form, but really don't see any need to use a database system. What's more, some of the data needs to be serialized and passed around to different users, like some kind of "file" or perhaps a "document". (has anyone ever done that before?) So, I've looked at using .Net DataSets, LINQ, direct XML manipulation, and they all seem like they would get the job done, but I would like to know before I dive into any of them if there's one method that is generally regarded as easier to code than others. As I said, the amount of data to be stored is trivial, even if one hundred people all used the same machine we're not talking about more than 10 MB, so performance is not as large a concern as is codeability/maintainability.   The method DotNetOpenAuth.OpenId.RelyingParty.IAuthenticationRequest.RedirectToProvider() is documented never to return: Redirects the user agent to the provider for authentication. Execution of the current page terminates after this call. However, it does return under the latest implementation (3.4.3). I'm using the following code: using (var relayingParty = new OpenIdRelyingParty()) { var response = relayingParty.GetResponse(); if (response == null) { // Stage 2: user submitting Identifier var openId = Request.Form["openId"]; relayingParty.CreateRequest(openId).RedirectToProvider(); throw new Exception("Never gets here"); } ... } (The line with "Never gets here" is reached). I need to return an ActionResult from this method ... Is this a known bug? Is there a aorkaround? Should I return EmptyResult? As far as I understand this is a bug - I submitted it in the project issue tracker.

  This looks simple but I am confused: The way I create a vector of hundred, say, ints is std::vector<int> *pVect = new std::vector<int>(100); However, looking at std::vector's documentation I see that its constructor is of the form explicit vector ( size_type n, const T& value= T(), const Allocator& = Allocator() ); So, how does the previous one work? Does new call the constructor with an initialization value obtained from the default constructor? If that is the case, would std::vector<int, my_allocator> *pVect = new std::vector<int>(100, my_allocator); where I pass my own allocator, also work?

  Hi everyone, I have a system where I need to login three user types: customers, companies, and vendors from one login form on the home page. I have created one User table that works according to AuthLogic's example app at http://github.com/binarylogic/authlogic_example. I have added a field called "User Type" that currently contains either 'Customer', 'Company', or 'Vendor'. Note: each user type contains many disparate fields so I'm not sure if Single Table Inheritance is the best way to go (would welcome corrections if this conclusion is invalid). Is this a polymorphic association where each of the three types is 'tagged' with a User record? How should my models look so I have the right relationships between my User table and my user types Customer, Company, Vendor? Thanks very much!

• Mathematica - Import CSV and process columns?

  I have a CSV file that is formatted like: 0.0023709,8.5752e-007,4.847e-008 and I would like to import it into Mathematica and then have each column separated into a list so I can do some math on the selected column. I know I can import the data with: Import["data.csv"] then I can separate the columns with this: StringSplit[data[[1, 1]], ","] which gives: {"0.0023709", "8.5752e-007", "4.847e-008"} The problem now is that I don't know how to get the data into individual lists and also Mathematica does not accept scientific notation in the form 8.5e-007. Any help in how to break the data into columns and format the scientific notation would be great. Thanks in advance.

  This is more of a thought i had awhile rather than an actual problem to solve, maybe more a discussion, but i was wondering if it would be possible to design the game of solitaire and be abkle to play it in the python GUI or some other form of iterface? I know you can get a deck of cards fairly easily and i know yuo can play simple games like snap and so on but i thought solitaire would be more challenging and fun because there is alot more logic behind it than just laying out the cards randomly.   After a bit of searching, I've found that it's possible to instantiate a WTForms object in web.py using the following code: form = my_form(**web.input()) web.input() returns a "dictionary-like" web.storage object, but without the double asterisks WTForms will raise an exception: TypeError: formdata should be a multidict-type wrapper that supports the 'getlist' method From the Python documentation I understand that the two asterisks are used to unpack a dictionary of named arguments. That said, I'm still a bit confused about exactly what is going on. What makes the web.storage object returned by web.input() "dictionary-like" enough that it can be unpacked by ** but not "dictionary-like" enough that it can be passed as-is to the WTForms constructor? I know that this is an extremely basic question, but any advice to help a novice programmer would be greatly appreciated!

  I have a few simple questions, because I got confused reading all difference responses. 1) If I have an xml with prolog: and I'm going to unmarshall it with Java (for example: JaXB). I suppose, that I can't put CROSS OF LORRAINE (http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/2628/index.htm) inside, but I can put "\u2628", correct? 2) I've also heard that UTF-8 doesn't contain it, but anything in Unicode can be saved with encoding UTF-8 (or UTF-16), and here is an example from this page: UTF-8 (hex) 0xE2 0x98 0xA8 (e298a8) Is my reasoning correct? Can I use this form and put it in the xml with utf-8 encoding?

  I am trying to create a message-board type element in a CakePHP app. This element will be displayed on all pages and views that use a particular layout. I want it to display all the messages in the model, then show the add form when a link is clicked, then return to the updated message list when submitted. All this without affecting the current view/page. I have my message model/controller/index set up, with a message board element that requests the index action. This works fine. However I am perplexed about how to return back to the original page/action from which the link was clicked. I can't use $this-referer() because that will link back to the add() action; what I want rather is to link to the page/view before that. Any general pointers on how to achieve something like this?

  I am using this method - (void)keyboardWillShow:(NSNotification *)notification that is triggered when the keyboard shows. When this method is triggered, it receives a notification that contains several parameters about the keyboard, as the animation duration, animation curve and frame. I need to forward this notification and all its parameters to another class. So, I've tried to do this inside keyboardWillShow: [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] postNotificationName:@"doSomething" object:notification userInfo:nil]; the doSomething notification runs doSomething method on another class, and it has this form: - (void) doSomething:(NSNotification *)notification { but when I try to read the notification values on this other class, using, for example, myRect = [[[notification userInfo] objectForKey:UIKeyboardFrameEndUserInfoKey] CGRectValue]; I obtain zero for all values. The notification is losing its parameters and not being forwarded. How can I do that? thanks.

  Hi, I'm new to windows services and... you guessed it, I’m a bit stuck. Let me paint the picture – I’m running a timed service that use an OdbcDataReader and SqlBulkCopy to (1) archive the data (2) normalize the data on a SQL box. When I run this code in a windows form proj. it works fine. Then, when I change the DNS’s Data Directory Path to a local drive, instead of the network share (just simulated the environment locally), it works as well. I’m obviously missing something. Any help will be appreciated. DNS

  I am trying to determine if a qualification exists on http://www.accreditedqualifications.org.uk in the form: http://www.accreditedqualifications.org.uk/qualification/50084811.seo.aspx 50084811 being a qualification aim entered by the end user. If they enter an invalid one e.g. http://www.accreditedqualifications.org.uk/qualification/50084911.seo.aspx They are redirected to an error page (with incorrect http headers as far as I can see). Is there a way to detect the redirect in C#. I would hope to be able to detect the redirect in http headers (thinking it will issue 2) or similar as oppose to having to download the whole page. This could be happening a lot so I would like to minimize traffic.
