  I'm trying to debug a crash but when I run symbolicatecrash against my crash log I get every method call in the stack trace except for my method calls. • How to handle "Remember me" in the Asp.Net Membership Provider

  Ive written a custom membership provider for my ASP.Net website. Im using the default Forms.Authentication redirect where you simply pass true to the method to tell it to "Remember me" for the current user. I presume that this function simply writes a cookie to the local machine containing some login credential of the user. What does ASP.Net put in this cookie? Is it possible if the format of my usernames was known (e.g. sequential numbering) someone could easily copy this cookie and by putting it on their own machine be able to access the site as another user? Additionally I need to be able to inercept the authentication of the user who has the cookie. Since the last time they logged in their account may have been cancelled, they may need to change their password etc so I need the option to intercept the authentication and if everything is still ok allow them to continue or to redirect them to the proper login page. I would be greatful for guidance on both of these two points. I gather for the second I can possibly put something in global.asax to intercept the authentication? Thanks in advance.

• SubSonic 3 screws up selecteditem?

  If you have a moment, please try this: -Download Subsonic 3. -Start a new proj and add SS's ActiveRecord templates. -Point it to any SQL Server DB and generate the classes. -Add a WPF project. -Create a window and add a combobox or listbox. -Set the ItemsSource from the SS DAL, and format it how you wish. -Add a button that will show you some value from the SelectedItem (using messagebox, console, whatever). -Run the project. -Click on the third item in the list. -Click on the second item in the list. -Click on the button. When I do that, the button gives me the value of the THIRD item, not the second. In other words, once the SelectedItem is set the first time it STAYS, no matter which item is subsequently highlighted on the screen. This is happening to me whatever control I use (combobox, listbox, even datagrid) and it ONLY happens with Subsonic Activerecord objects. If I write my own POCOs with identical properties and bind a list of them instead, the controls behave as expected. Does this happen to you? Any ideas?

  I currently have a long running process that I am trying to analyze with Perf4J. I currently have it writing results in CSV format to its own log file using the AsyncCoalescingStatisticsAppender and a StatisticsCsvLayout on the file appender. My question is; when I try and use the --graph option from the command line (using the perf4j jar) it isn't populating the data points- it isn't populating anything. Are my appenders set incorrectly?   Are there any libraries or techniques that simplify computing equations ? Currently I use excel to solve a lot of these equations; and I find that process to be daunting. I'd rather move to python where it pulls the data directly from our database (postgres) and outputs the results into the database. All that is figured out. • Margin on the top in LaTex

  I am now writing a thesis which is required to have 1 and half inches on the left or binding side, and 1 inch on the other three sides. I just have my print-out checked in the binding office and I was told the margins are not okay, especially the one on the top is not enough, a little less than 1 inch. See the figure below: I wonder which commands are responsible for the margins on the four sides, especially for the one on the top? I provide links to two files I believe that control the layout and format of the thesis:jhu12.clo and thesis.cls. Or instead of modifying the LaTex files, is thre some setting when printing the pdf file to control these margins on the print-out? Thanks and regards! EDIT: This is the print-out of command \layout It shows "one inch + \voffset" for the top (the NO. 2 item). But the staff at the binding office use his ruler to show it is less than 1 inch. How to adjust the margins in LaTex then? Thanks!

  I have an ASP.NET MVC application, with some RESTful services that I'm trying to secure using custom basic authentication (they are authenticated against my own database). I have implemented this by writing an HTTPModule. • "É" not getting converted to two bytes correctly.

  Further to this question I've got a supplementary problem. I've found a track with an "É" in the title. My code: var playList = new StreamWriter(playlist, false, Encoding.UTF8); - private static void WriteUTF8(StreamWriter playList, string output) { byte[] byteArray = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(output); foreach (byte b in byteArray) { playList.Write(Convert.ToChar(b)); } } converts this to the following bytes: 195 137 which is being output as à followed by a square (which is an character that can't be printed in the current font). I've exported the same file to a playlist in Media Monkey at it writes the "É" as "É" - which I'm assuming is correct (as KennyTM pointed out). My question is, how do I get the "‰" symbol output? Do I need to select a different font and if so which one? UPDATE People seem to be missing the point. I can get the "É" written to the file using playList.WriteLine("É"); that's not the problem. The problem is that Media Monkey requires the file to be in the following format: #EXTINFUTF8:140,Yann Tiersen - Comptine D'Un Autre Été: L'Après Midi #EXTINF:140,Yann Tiersen - Comptine D'Un Autre Été: L'Après Midi #UTF8:04-Comptine D'Un Autre Été- L'Après Midi.mp3 04-Comptine D'Un Autre Été- L'Après Midi.mp3 Where all the "high-ascii" (for want of a better term) are written out as a pair of characters.

• Can't get data with spaces into the database from Ajax POST request

  I have a real simple form with a textbox and a button, and my goal is to have an asynchronous request (jQuery: $.ajax) send the text to the server (PHP/mysql a la Joomla) so that it can be added to a database table. Here's the javascript that is sending the data from the client: var value= $('#myvalue').val(); $.ajax( { type: "POST", url: "/administrator/index.php", data: { option: "com_mycomponent", task: "enterValue", thevalue: value, format: "raw"}, dataType: "text", success: reportSavedValue } ); The problem arises when the user enters text with a space in it. The $_POST variable that I receive has all the spaces stripped out, so that if the user enters "This string has spaces", the server gets the value "Thisstringhasspaces". I have been googling around, and have found lots of references that I need to use encodeURIComponent. So I have tried it, but now the value that I get from $_POST is "This20string20has20spaces". So it appears to be encoding it the way I would expect, only to have the percent signs stripped instead of the spaces, and leaving the hex numbers. I'm really confused. It seems that this sort of question is asked and answered everywhere on the web, and everywhere encodeURIComponent is hailed as the silver bullet. But apparently I'm fighting a different breed of lycanthrope. Does anyone have any suggestions?

• Can I recover lost commits in a SVN repository using a local tracking git-svn branch?

  A SVN repo I use git-svn to track was recently corrupted and a backup was recovered. However, a week's worth of commits were lost in the recovery. Is it possible to recover those lost commits using git-svn dcommit on my local git repo?   How do I get the collection of errors in a view? I don't want to use the Html Helper Validation Summary or Validation Message. Instead I want to check for errors and if any display them in specific format. Also on the input controls I want to check for a specific property error and add a class to the input. P.S. I'm using the Spark View Engine but the idea should be the same. So I figured I could do something like... <if condition="${ModelState.Errors.Count > 0}"> DispalyErrorSummary() </if> ....and also... <input type="text" value="${Model.Name}" class="?{ModelState.Errors["Name"] != string.empty} error" /> .... Or something like that. • mysql: Average over multiple columns in one row, ignoring nulls

  I have a large table (of sites) with several numeric columns - say a through f. (These are site rankings from different organizations, like alexa, google, quantcast, etc. Each has a different range and format; they're straight dumps from the outside DBs.) For many of the records, one or more of these columns is null, because the outside DB doesn't have data for it. They all cover different subsets of my DB. I want column t to be their weighted average (each of a..f have static weights which I assign), ignoring null values (which can occur in any of them), except being null if they're all null. I would prefer to do this with a simple SQL calculation, rather than doing it in app code or using some huge ugly nested if block to handle every permutation of nulls. (Given that I have an increasing number of columns to average over as I add in more outside DB sources, this would be exponentially more ugly and bug-prone.) I'd use AVG but that's only for group by, and this is w/in one record. The data is semantically nullable, and I don't want to average in some "average" value in place of the nulls; I want to only be counting the columns for which data is there. Is there a good way to do this? Ideally, what I want is something like UPDATE sites SET t = AVG(a*a_weight,b*b_weight,...) where any null values are just ignored and no grouping is happening.

• Creating dynamic jQuery tooltips for dynamic content

  I'm using the qTip jQuery plugin to create tooltips for a set of links. Two problems: How do I create a set of tooltips for three dynamically generated links where the content of the tooltip will also be dynamic: a href="books.cfm?bookID=11"Book One a href="books.cfm?bookID=22"Book Two a href="books.cfm?bookID=33"Book Three I would like to create a tooltip for each link. Each tooltip will then load details about each book. I've gotten it to work when I've used a static 'bookID' instead of a dynamically generated number. Even when it does work (by using a static number for 'bookID', I can't format the data correctly. It comes back as a query result, or a bunch of text strings. Should I send back the results as HTML? Unsure. • How to organize integrity tests and code unit tests?

  I have several files with code testing code (which uses a "unittest" class). Later I found it would be nice to test database integrity also. I put this into a separate directory tree. (Things like the keys have correct format, parent and child nodes are pointing correctly and such.) I use the same unittest class for the integrity tests. Now I wonder if it makes really sense to keep this separate. To test the integrity of data I often duplicate parts of code that I use to test the code that handles the data. But it is not the same. The code tests use test databases (that get deleted after each test) and the integrity tests connect to the live data and analyze it. The integrity tests I want to call from cron and send an alarm if something happens in the live database. How would you handle that? Are there standards for such a setup? What is your experience? My tendency is to put everything in the same file, which would result in the code tests also being executed by the cron on the production environment.

  I am using asp.net mvc3, download file in the same browser (Chrome 22). Why does filename gets encoded differently for the same browser? Are there any kinds of default settings in web.config that are different on machines that I am missing?

• setlocale to fr-FR in PHP and number formatting

  Hi, I am trying to create a French version of one of my sites. I have set setlocale(LC_ALL, 'fr_FR'); at the top of my page, and using strftime I am displaying dates correctly in the French style. However I am having some problems with a number. Part of the page uses data I am getting from a Web Service. I am assigning a returned value to a var like this: $overallRating = $returnArray['Overall']; I am then using the following code later to format it to 1 decimal place number_format($overallRating,1) In the English version the overallRating value might be 7.5 and returns a value such as 7.5 (the reason for running it through the number_format is if it returns 7 I want it to display 7.0) However in the French version if I print out the raw $overallRating value I get 7,5 which looks like it has translated it into french. This would be fine but if I run it through number_format I get the error: Notice: A non well formed numeric value encountered in /sites/index.php on line 250 Line 250 is the number_format line I presume the translation to 7,5 is messing it up, but not sure how to solve this... Using PHP 5.3 in case there is anything new that helps me

• How to html encode the output of an MVC view?

  I am building a web app which will generate lots of different code templates (HTML tables, XML documents, SQL scripts) that I want to render on screen as encoded HTML so that people can copy and paste those templates. I would like to be able to use asp.net mvc views to generate the code for these templates (rather than, say, using a StringBuilder). Is there a way using asp.net mvc to store the results of a rendered view into a string? Something like the following perhaps? public ContentResult HtmlTable(string format) { var m = new MyViewModel(); m.MyDataElements = _myDataRepo.GetData(); // Somehow render the view and store it as a string? // Not sure how to achieve this part. var viewHtml = View(m); var htmlEncodedView = Server.HtmlEncode(viewHtml); return Content(htmlEncodedView); } NOTE: My original question mentioned NHaml views specifically, but I realized that this wasn't view engine specific. So if you see answers related to NHaml, that's why.
