• Recommendations of a high volume log event viewer in a Java enviroment

  I am in a situation where I would like to accept a LOT of log events controlled by me - notably the logging agent I am preparing for slf4j - and then analyze them interactively. I am not as such interested in a facility that presents formatted log files, but one that can accept log events as objects and allow me to sort and display on e.g. threads and timelines etc. Chainsaw could maybe be an option but is currently not compatible with logback which I use for technical reasons. Is there any project with stand alone viewers or embedded in an IDE which would be suitable for this kind of log handling. I am aware that I am approaching what might be suitable for a profiler, so if there is a profiler projekt suitable for this kind of data acquisition and display where I can feed the event pipe, I would like to hear about it). Thanks for all feedback Update 2009-03-19: I have found that there is not a log viewer which allows me to see what I would like (a visual display of events with coordinates determined by day and time, etc), so I have decided to create a very terse XML format derived from the log4j XMLLayout adapted to be as readable as possible while still being valid XML-snippets, and then use the Microsoft LogParser to extract the information I need for postprocessing in other tools.

• HighCharts : Can I customize the colors of individual series?

  I am using HighCharts for a line graph and i am attemping to change the line color for each series. I did find this example here but the data is hard coded. I'm trying to implement this using the recursive class method get_default. The program gets stuck in an infinite recursion, unfortunately. My understanding of super() is obviously lacking. By accessing __mro__, I can get it to work properly though, but I'm not sure this is a proper solution. I have the feeling the answer is somewhere in this article, but I haven't been able to find it yet. Perhaps I need to resort to using a metaclass?

  I need a Java interface to the OpenOffice document conversion which would equal to a manual (Open... and then Save As...) as well as access to the PDF generation. The following are some example of what I want to achieve. 1) Open one type of document (fx. OpenOffice Writer document or Microsoft Office document) onto memory and save it in another supported format. 2) Open one type of document into memory and export it as PDF. I have gone through http://api.openoffice.org but didn't get any material which can help me to get started. I also tried JODConverter but it requires me to run OpenOffice as a service. I wold prefer to include all the core functionality of OpenOffice in one JAR file so that that the user can use my application without installing or running openoffice on their PC. What would be a URL/code snippet from where I can get tutorials to get started? Also do I have to add some JAR files? Will the application work even if I don't have OpenOffice installed on my PC?

• Powershell - Splitting string into seperate components

  I am writing a script which will basically do the following: Read from a text file some arguements: DriveLetter ThreeLetterCode ServerName VolumeLetter Integer Eg. W MSS SERVER01 C 1 These values happen to form a folder destination W:\MSS\, and a filename which works in the following naming convention: SERVERNAME_VOLUMELETTER_VOL-b00X-iYYY.spi - Where The X is the Integer above The value Y I need to work out later, as this happens to be the value of the incremental image (backups) and I need to work out the latest incremental. So at the moment -- Count lines in file, and loop for this many lines. $lines = Get-Content -Path PostBackupCheck-Textfile.txt | Measure-Object -Line for ($i=0; $i -le $lines.Lines; $i++) Within this loop I need to do a Get-Content to read off the line I am currently looking at i.e. line 0, line 1, line 2, as there will be multiple lines in the format I wrote at the beginning and split the line into an array, whereby each part of the file, as seen above naming convention, is in a[0], a[1], a[2]. etc The reason for this is because, I need to then sort the folder that contains these, find the latest file, by date, and take the _iXXX.spi part and place this into the array value a[X] so I then have a complete filename to mount. This value will replace iYYY.spi It's a little complex because I also have to make sure when I do a Get-ChildItem with -Include before I sort it all by date, I am only including the filename that matches the arguements fed to it from the text file : So, SERVER01_C_VOL-b001-iYYY.spi and not anything else. i.e. not SERVER01_D_VOL-b001-iYYY.spi Then take the iYYY value from the sort on the Get-ChildItem -Include and place that into the appropriate array item.   I have built a web application that can be seen as an overcomplicated application form. There are bunch of text areas with a given character limit. After the form submission various things happen and one of them is PDF generation. The text is queried from the DB and inserted in the PDF template created in iReports. This works fine but the major pain is overflowing text. The maximum number of characters is set based on 'average' text. But sometimes people prefer to write with CAPS or add plenty of linefeeds to format their text. These then cause user's text to overflow the space given in PDF. Unfortunately the PDF document must look like a real application form so I cannot allow unlimited space. What kind of approaches you have used to tackle this? Clean/restrict user input? Calculate the space requirement of the text based on font metrics? Provide preview of the PDF? (too bad users are not allowed to change their input after submission...)

  I have an application which loads up c# source files dynamically and runs them as plugins. When I am running the main application in debug mode, is it possible to debug into the dynamic assembly? Obviously setting breakpoints is problematic, since the source is not part of the original project, but should I be able to step into, or break on exceptions for the code? Is there a way to get codedom to generate PDBs for this or something? Here is the code I am using for dynamic compliation. • Network Authentication when running exe from WMI

  Hi, I have a C# exe that needs to be run using WMI and access a network share. However, when I access the share I get an UnauthorizedAccessException. If I run the exe directly the share is accessible. I am using the same user account in both cases. There are two parts to my application, a GUI client that runs on a local PC and a backend process that runs on a remote PC. When the client needs to connect to the backend it first launches the remote process using WMI (code reproduced below). The remote process does a number of things including accessing a network share using Directory.GetDirectories() and reports back to the client. When the remote process is launched automatically by the client using WMI, it cannot access the network share. However, if I connect to the remote machine using Remote Desktop and manually launch the backend process, access to the network share succeeds. The user specifed in the WMI call and the user logged in for the Remote Desktop session are the same, so the permissions should be the same, shouldn't they? I see in the MSDN entry for Directory.Exists() it states "The Exists method does not perform network authentication. If you query an existing network share without being pre-authenticated, the Exists method will return false." I assume this is related? How can I ensure the user is authenticated correctly in a WMI session?   Hi, today I just tried to play a little bit around with the opcodes in compiled java class file. There's only one section in the resulting class file, which contains 0x84: [..] 8401 0184 0101 8401 01[..] So I would translate this as: iinc 1,1 iinc 1,1 iinc 1,1 corresponding to my i++; i++; i++; I then tried to append just 840101 to increment the variable once more, but that didn't work and resulted in the ClassFormatError. Is there anything like a checksum for the class file? I looked up the format of a classfile in http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jvms/second_edition/html/ClassFile.doc.html but could not find anything which points out to some kind of bytes_of_classfile or something. I also don't understand why the error is "Truncated Class File", because I did append something :-) I know its not a good idea to edit class files directly, but I'm just interested on the VM internals here.

  I would like to have a combobox that allows selection from a list of values and also allow a custom value from the typed in text. And as you type with the text search the matching items are selected. If the typed text doesn't match an item then the SelectedColorLevel is set to null. The question is at what point (and how) is it best to create a new custom item that can be set to the SelectedColorLevel when the typed text doesn't match an item. For example I would want to assign a new item to the selected value such as new ColorLevel { Intensity = decimal.Parse(textvalue), IsCustom = true } or using an appropriate converter and databinding to the Text property.

  I am trying to develop a system in which a user can upload a slideshow (pdf) and it'll export each slide as a png. After some digging around I came across a post on here that suggested using a processor. I've had a go, but I cant get the command to run, if it is running then I don't know what is happening because no errors are being shown.   I'm currently working on a C# wrapper to work with Dallmeier Common API light. See previous posting: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2430089/c-wrapper-and-callbacks I've got pretty much everything 'wrapped' but I'm stuck on wrapping a callback which contains an array of three pointers & an array integers: dlm_setYUVDataCllback int(int SessionHandle, void (*callback) (long IPlayerID, unsigned char** yuvData, int* pitch, int width, int height, int64_t ts, char* extData)) Function Set callback, to receive current YUV image. Arguments SessionHandle: handle to current session. Return PlayerID (see callback). Callback - IPlayerId: id to the Player object - yuvData: array of three pointers to Y, U and V part of image The YUV format used is YUV420 planar (not packed). char *y = yuvData[0]; char *u = yuvData[1]; char *v = yuvData[2]; - pitch: array of integers for pitches for Y, U and V part of image - width: intrinsic width of image. - height - ts : timestamp of current frame - extData: additional data to frame How do I go about wrapping this in c#?   I am using Tuscany 1.6 and am trying to set the Delivery Mode JMS Binding to NON_PERSISTENT. I've tried using uri="jms:MyService?deliveryMode=1" (which is what the spec (PDF) says to do) but, I ended up getting the following exception: Unknown token deliveryMode=1 I also tried <headers JMSDeliveryMode="NON_PERSISTENT"/>, although I did not get an exception the messages still got delivered as PERSISTENT. • Modify post data with a custom MVC extension?

  So I'm looking into writing some custom MVC extensions and the first one I'm attempting to tackle is a FormattedTextBox to handle things such as currency, dates, and times. I have the rendering of it working perfectly, formatting it, working with strong types and everything all golden. However, the problem I'm now running into is cleaning up the formatted stuff when the page posts the data back. Take for example, a currency format. Let's use USD for these examples. When an object has a property as a decimal, the value would be 79.95. Your edit view would be something like: <%= Html.FormattedTextBox(model => Model.Person.HourlyWage, "{0:C}") %> This is all well and good for the GET request, but upon POST, the value is going to be $79.95, which when you assign to that decimal, gets unhappy very quickly and ends up shoving a 0 in there. So my question is, how do I get code working somewhere to work with that value before the MVC Framework goes and starts shoving it back into my ViewModel? I'd much rather this be done server-side than client-side. Thanks!!

  Hi, as stated in subject, i have an image: private Image testing; testing = new Bitmap(@"sampleimg.jpg"); I would like to split it into 3 x 3 matrix meaning 9 images in total and save it.Any tips or tricks to do this simple? I'm using visual studios 2008 and working on smart devices. Tried some ways but i can't get it. • source of historical stock data

  I'm trying to make a stock market simulator (perhaps eventually growing into a predicting AI), but I'm having trouble finding data to use. I'm looking for a (hopefully free) source of historical stock market data. Ideally, it would be a very fine-grained (second or minute interval) data set with price and volume of every symbol on NASDAQ and NYSE (and perhaps others if I get adventurous). Does anyone know of a source for such info? I found this question which indicates Yahoo offers historical data in CSV format, but I've been unable to find out how to get it in a cursory examination of the site linked. I also don't like the idea of downloading the data piecemeal in CSV files... I imagine Yahoo would get upset and shut me off after the first few thousand requests. I also discovered another question that made me think I'd hit the jackpot, but unfortunately that OpenTick site seems to have closed its doors... too bad, since I think they were exactly what I wanted. I'd also be able to use data that's just open/close price and volume of every symbol every day, but I'd prefer all the data if I can get it. Any other suggestions?

• Uncaught exception while using xdebug

  I'm not too great with xdebug so forgive me if this is a stupid question. But I installed it on a separate machine and it performed some magic for me like formating my var_dump() output and catching any uncaught exceptions. It also fails to format the stack traces, outputting plain text which is extremely hard to read. As I am learning the Lithium PHP Framework I am required to use php5.3, on my other machine I compiled from the source but on this machine I'm using the precompiled packages from dotdeb.org. As far as I can tell the only difference is that this is a slightly newer version of php and it comes with the Suhosin patch. The other odd thing is that the xdebug functions such as xdebug_var_dump() work, aside from poor formatting. This is an Ubuntu machine, so I don't know if it could be anything to do with the dotdep packages, but I have installed xdebug through pecl, the downloadable tarball and from the SVN repository. But to no avail. You can see my php.ini and output of php -i in the following gist. I copied php.ini from /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini over to /etc/php5/cli/php.ini so php -i should reflect my apache setup. http://gist.github.com/391675 Any help is appreciated. Rich
