• PROBLEM: PHP strip_tags & multi-dimensional array form parameter

  I'm having problems stripping the tags from the textual inputs retrieved from my form so as to do something with them in checkout.php. The input is stored in a multi-dimensional array. • My father wants to learn PHP-MySQL to port his application. What I should do to help?

  My father is a doctor/physician. About 15 years ago he started writing an application to handle his patient's medical records in his clinic at home. The app has the ability to input patient's medical records (obviously), search patients by some criteria, manage medicine stocks, output receipt to printer, and some more CRUDs. He wrote it in dBase III+. A few years later he migrated to FoxPro 2.6 for DOS and finally in a few more years he rewrote his app in Visual FoxPro 9. And now (actually two years ago) he wants to rewrite it in PHP, but he don't know how. The Visual FoxPro version of this app is still running and has no serious problem except sometimes it performs slowly. Usually there are 1-5 concurrent users. The binary and database files are shared via windows share. He did all the coding as a hobby and for free (it is for his own clinic after all). He also use this app in two other offices he managed. Some reasons of why he wants to rewrite in PHP-MySQL: He wants to learn Easier to deploy (?) Easier client setup, need only a browser What should I do to help my father? How should he start? I explored some options: I let my father learn PHP and MySQL (and HTML (and JavaScript?)) from scratch. I create/bundle framework. I'm thinking on bundling CodeIgniter and a web UI framework (any suggestion?) especially to reduce effort on writing presentation codes. What do you think? tl;dr My father (a doctor) wants to rewrite his Visual FoxPro app in PHP-MySQL. He knows very little of PHP and MySQL but he wants to learn. What should I do to help? How should he start? Some facts: My father is 50 years old. His first encounter with a PC is in early 1980s. It was IBM PC with Intel 8088. He knows BASIC. He taught me how to use DOS and how to program with BASIC. The other language he knows fairly well is dBase/FoxPro. I got my bachelor CS degree last year. I know the internals of my father's app because sometime he wants me to help him writing his app. Sorry for my english.

• Vagrant up doesn't load chef configs and doesn't keep an error log

  I'm trying to set up a vagrant box and I'm running with all sort of troubles. Right now I'm getting a strange error message where it states there's a stack trace file with more info, but that file is no where to be found. • ANY way to consolidate this code?

  I am building a PHP registration form which takes the following fields for up to 20 athletes: First Name Middle Initial Last Name Federation Number Address City State Zip DOB SSN Phone Email I am only through 7 of the fields for each fighter and my php file is very large (over 40kb). Is there ANY way to consolidate this code at all? I am also having to validate the information on each field (as I said - 20 athletes x 12 fields = 240 validations on a single page). I want to do this purely for visual reasons for the user as when the form submits I ignore the "minutes" and "am/pm". I'm trying to decide whether it would be best to change the selected values, change the selected values and then disable the element or hide them altogether. However, without any success in getting anything to happen at all I haven't been able to try the different approaches to see what feels right. I've ruled out the obvious things like a duplicate element ID or simply not linking to JQuery. Thank you.

• Weird UPD packets on incoming FTP MLSD command

  Hello. I am developing a firewall script for my server. So far it is working fine, except for FTP. Server is dedicated, CentOS based with static IP. There is no NAT between me and server. IPTables is a firewall. Here is a script I use to configure iptables: http://pastebin.com/f54a70fec I allow all RELATED and ESTABLISHED connections in it and load all conn_track modules. I supposed it to be sufficient in order FTP to work with iptables. The problem is that FTP is not working either in passive or active mode. FileZilla and TotalCommander just hangs on MLSD FTP command. • How to select the first ocurrence in the auto-completion menu by pressing Enter?

• How to set up mysql storage for certain rsyslog input matches?

  I'm draining various logs from Heroku to an rsyslog linux (ubuntu) server and am starting to have a little more to bite off than I can chew in terms of working with my log histories. I am needing to be able drill back in time based on more flexible details and more flexible access than what the standard syslog file(s) provide. I'm thinking that logging to mysql may be the correct approach, but how do I set this up such that it pulls only certain log entries into a table based on an identified? For example, I see a long hex string identifying each log entry from a certain Heroku app instance. I assume that I can just pipe those into the mysql socket vs ALL rsyslog input into mysql... Could someone please direct me to a resource that can walk me through the process of setting something like this up or simply provide some details that can help? I have 15+ years of Unix experience so I just need some nudging in the right direction as I've not really done a tremendous amount of work with syslog daemons previously in terms of pooling various servers into one. Additionally, I'd be interested in any log review tools that could make drilling through log arrangements like this more handy for developers.

  I've registered xdebug in php.ini (as per http://xdebug.org/docs/install) but it's not showing up when i run "php -m" or when i get a test page to run "phpinfo()". I've just installed the latest version of XAMPP. Can anyone provide any suggestions in getting xdebug to show up? • Populating Tcl Treeview with Sqlite Data

  Hello: I am building a Tcl application that reads off of a Sqlite Db. Currently, I can enter data into the database using the Tcl frontend. Now, I am trying to figure out how to display the data within the Sqlite Db from the Tcl frontend. After a little bit of research, I found that the treeview widget would work well for my needs. I now have the following code: set z1 [ttk::treeview .c1.t1 -columns {1 2} -show headings] $z1 heading #1 -text "First Name" $z1 heading #2 -text "Last Name" proc Srch {} {global z1 sqlite3 db test.db pack $z1 db close } When the "Srch" procedure is executed (button event), the treeview (z1) appears with the headings First Name and Last Name. Additionally, the Sqlite Db gets connected, then closes. I wanted to add code that would populate the treeview from the Sqlite Db between connecting to the Db and packing the treeview (z1).   new to python here so bear with me ... i'm looking at django for a rapid prototype to a photo sharing app with an amazon aws s3 storage back end. however, as far as i can tell, django is tailored toward the typical database MVC type of pattern. is there a way to for example provide a custom django model implementation that talks to s3 in stead of a DB? a custom DB engine? would either of these be practical, or am i looking in the wrong direction? thanks.

• Can't save DB password in BDE Admin v5.01 (c. 1998)

  I have a legacy version of Goldmine running which uses BDE to connect to an SQL2005 server. I'm moving the goldmine application and its database onto a new server and all is fine with the exception of the master DB password. When Goldmine starts it prompts for the password. I enter the password and all is fine but I want the prompt to go away. The password appears to be saved and obfuscated somewhere on the old server but this was configured before my time. As best I can determine, I use the bdeadmin.exe tool to modify the idapi32.cfg file but there is no password option.

Can anyone suggest how I can speed this up and optimise for speed. I am now using SQL Server Express 2008 (not 2005 as per my original question). Its working fine on linux(redhat) but when I am running the script on solaris-10 its giving me the below error: 2010-12-14 00:00:00 and 2010-12-14 23:59:59DAILY INSIDE : 2010-12-14 00:00:00 -- 2010-12-14 23:59:59 install_driver(mysql) failed: Can't locate DBD/mysql.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.10.1/i86pc-solaris /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.10.1 /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10.1/i86pc-solaris /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10.1 .) at (eval 15) line 3. Perhaps the DBD::mysql perl module hasn't been fully installed, or perhaps the capitalisation of 'mysql' isn't right. Available drivers: DBM, ExampleP, File, Gofer, Multiplex, Proxy, Sponge, Sybase. at cerberus_report.pl line 114 Though dbd-mysql perl module is already installed. PKGINST: CSWpmdbdmysql NAME: pm_dbdmysql - MySQL driver for the Perl5 Database Interface (DBI) Is it something related to the path variables to need some other perl moudule dependency!

  what is the preferred practice when linq2sql using (in asp.net mvc applications): to create "singleton" for DataContext like: partial class db { static db _db = new db(global::data.Properties.Settings.Default.nanocrmConnectionString, new AttributeMappingSource()); public static db GetInstance() { return _db; } } or to retrieve new instance when it needed within using: using (db _db = new db()) { ... } the usage of using brings some limitations on code. so I prefer to use singleton one. is it weird practice?

  On my Ubuntu VPS, i have a mysql server running and a Glassfish 3.0.1 Application Server running. And I am having a hard to have my GF successfully ping the database. Here is my GF set up Assume: x.y.z.t is the ip of my VPS Resource Type: javax.sql.ConnectionPoolDataSource User: root DatabaseName: scholar Url: jdbc:mysql://x.y.z.t:3306/scholar URL: jdbc:mysql://x.y.z.t:3306/scholar Password: xxxx PortNumber: 3306 ServerName: x.y.z.t Inside my glassfish3/glassfish/lib, I have my mysql-connector-java-5.1.13-bin.jar Inside the database, table mysql here is the result of the query select User, Host from user; +------------------+-----------+ | User | Host | +------------------+-----------+ | root | 127.0.0.1 | | debian-sys-maint | localhost | | root | localhost | | root | yunaeyes | +------------------+-----------+ Now from my machine, if I try to connect to this db via mysql browser (mysql client software), well I cant. Well from the table above, seem like it only allow localhost to connect to this db. Keep in mind that both my db and my GF are on the same VPS. Please help
