  • How can I make Firefox ignore Next/Prev-Buttons on the Keyboard?

    My ThinkPad notebook has "next page" and "previous page" buttons right next to the cursor keys. While writing code (sometimes in textareas on pages such as StackOverflow) accidentally hitting one of these keys is very annoying - either you navigate away or you get the "do you really want to navigate way" prompt. I never use those keys anyway so I wonder if there's an option in Firefox to ignore those keys. An option to remap them globally or simply disable them would (OS: Windows 7) be fine, too.

  • ActiveRecord and transactionsin between `before_save` and `save`

    I have some logic in before_save whereby (only) when some conditions are met I let the new row be created with special_number equal to the maximum special_number in the database + 1. (If the conditions aren't met then I do something different, so I can't use auto-increments) My worry is that two threads acting on this database at once might pick the same special_number if the second is executed while the first is saving. Is there way to lock the database between before_save and finishing the save, but only in some cases? I know all saves are sent in transactions, will this do the job for me? def before_save if things_are_just_right # -- Issue some kind of lock? # -- self.lock?     I have an image uploading script in which i use the following setup to assign names to uploaded images; $saltdate = date( 'U' ); $saltuser = $_SERVER[REMOTE_ADDR]; $saltname = md5($saltdate.$saltuser); // Recieve, Process, Save uploaded image // Update database with image name The problem that i encounter is that after processing/saving the image, when its time to add this file name to the database, the value of $saltdate seems to have changed and i will get a file name in the database that doesnt exist. How can i make sure that the value doesn't change once i establish it?

Simply, I want to save every exception on the web service for future use (bug tracing), so, where is the best place to save these exceptions? Is it good idea to save it in the database?     I am in the process of creating a website/phone application using JQuery Mobile and PhoneGap. I am hoping to add openID support so users can login in with pre-existing accounts. It will be necessary for me to have a database with a few tables to enable me to implement all the core functionality I desire. I haven't really had much experience with frameworks before, the closest thing I have done to this is create a basic website using php that connected to a MySql database stored on the machine that hosted the apache webserver. The interaction with the database won't be complex. I am required to use a java framework for the backend of my application. My question is which java framework is most suitable (flexible and straight forward to learn)? Any advice you guys can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • How do you insert new entries into an Access db table through an ASP.net website?

    I need to insert new records into an Access database. I'm using Visual Studio 2008 and firstly create a asp.net website. I can connect to the information in Access databse using dataview or gridview and can query a particular entry (ie. Proposal No. -brings up all details linking to that proposal). I can then edit the details of that proposal and this would update the Access Db. What I need to do is to have a form that simply enters new details for a new customer. ie. Enter name [__] Enter Adress[__]. Then for this to update the database. By using the gridview or dataview I am able to view all fields that exist in the table and edit them. Is there a way that I can get a blank gridview/dataview template (which includes all the fields in the table) and fill it out to then update the database? Thanks

  • In the context of an asp.net website, what's the most efficient way to check whether a User has acce

    I have a webpage that you pass in an id parameter (via a querystring), which it then uses to fetch data from a database. Typically, a user would navigate to this page from another page that lists only those records that the user has access to. However, if they go directly to the page by typing in the URL in the Address Bar, they can effectively view any record they like. Eg. If they were to type something like http://localhost/TestSite/ClientAdmin/ManageLocation.aspx?LocationID=5 into their Address Bar, they can access the database record with the LocationID equal to five - even though they shouldn't have access to it. Now, I could solve this by doing a database check every time the page is loaded to see whether the current user has access to the record they're trying to view. However this doesn't seem very efficient given that in most cases a user won't be trying to access a record that isn't theirs. Does anyone have a better suggestion? Thanks.

  • How to log the raw SQL from Oracle occi C++ api?

    One of our customers is complaining our application is not working. Their reasoning is that our sql function call to their Oracle database is not getting the "expected" result. Sometime, it should failed but our application get success from their database. It's really frustrating because it's their database and we cannot do any test on it. We are using the C++ Oracle OCCI API. Is there anyway we can log the raw sql from our end? That will be very helpful and we can ship the script to them and let them debug in their system to figure out the problem. Thanks in advance.

  • Hibernate + Spring + session + cache

    We are using Hibernate with Spring for our Java application. We find out that when a session update something in database other sessions can not see the update. For example user1 get the account balance from database then user2 increase the balance , if user1 get the object another time he see the account balance before updating (seems that session use the value from its cache) but we want to get the updated object with new account balance. User1 use one session during all activity that is different from user2 session. Is any configuration to force to get the updated object from database? or any other help?

    I am trying to create a table to only has a foreign key, not a primary key. I am getting this error: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: column '_id' does not exist I read a tutorial that the primary key must be _id, with no explanation. And that is fine. But what if I do not want a primary key! What if I only want a foreign key. I am assuming this is where my problem lies. The schemas below are what I have.   • Handling multiple post-defined datasource connections based on user

    How should I handle multiple user-connection defined datasource connection in my .NET application? To illustrate this better; the user provides three (3) pieces of information, username, password and data source name. This data source name is then looked-up in a central database telling that application which main database this user should connect to. My question is, in the DataAccess layer, should we only pass down enough information to uniquely identify that user, and query the central database each time in the DAL; or, should we provide another way to pass the datasource connection down to the DAL?

  • Creating new Entities from Stored Procedure

    I have a stored procedure that retrieves existing rows from a table and also creates includes new rows that match the table definition and mapped entity (.net 3.5 entity framework). These new rows are not written to the database in the stored procedure. The stored procedure executes, but the new rows that were created will not load the navigation properties sucessfully i.e. the rows that do not actually exist in the database. e.g. database rows: key, data, FK 1, xxx, a 2, xxx, b returned rows from stored procedure: key, data, FK 1, xxx, a 2, xxx, b 3, yyy, a 4, yyy, b The entity will load FK entities a and b for rows 1 and 2, but for rows 3 and 4 the FK entity is null. Do I somehow need to add the new rows to the data context? or turn off tracking?

  • How to schedule hundreds of thousands of tasks?

    We have hundreds of thousands of tasks that need to be run at a variety of arbitrary intervals, some every hour, some every day, and so on. The tasks are resource intensive and need to be distributed across many machines. Right now tasks are stored in a database with an "execute at this time" timestamp. To find tasks that need to be executed, we query the database for jobs that are due to be executed, then update the timestamps when the task is complete. Naturally this leads to a substantial write load on the database. As far as I can tell, we are looking for something to release tasks into a queue at a set interval. (Workers could then request tasks from that queue.) What is the best way to schedule recurring tasks at scale? For what it's worth we're largely using Python, although we have no problems using components (RabbitMQ?) written in other languages.

  • Beginners PHP / mySQL question

    I'm brand new to PHP & MySQL, and one function I'm creating needs to access a large table or database. I've created the database and it's currently in a MySQL table, which I'm accessing with no problem. The table is 11,000 rows in length, with 8 columns (all text less than 8 characters long) - it's static, and will never change. Without getting too particular, my users will hit a button which will trigger scripts to access the data, say 500 times or more. So in general would it be better practice to include all of this data in a big 'switch' or 'if... then' conditional right in my scripts, rather than opening and accessing the database connection hundreds, or maybe even thousands of times? It just seems like that might be a bottleneck waiting to happen. Thanks!

    SqlCE has a parameter set on the Connect String called Flush Interval. It is defined as: The interval time (in seconds) before all committed transactions are flushed to disk. If not specified, the default value is 10. I thought that a committed transaction, by definition, is a transaction that has been flushed to disk, specifically the database file. If a transaction is only stored in RAM then cannot the transaction be easily lost? I thought that transactions were first written to a log file and then applied to the database file itself, so perhaps this parameter could mean the time to wait until the transaction log is applied to the database file? I would have thought that this parameter should be 0.

    SOmewhat related to Doing calculations in MySQL vs PHP Right now, our database assumes that the system time is in UTC and uses that to calculate NOW(). PHP explicitly sets the timezone as UTC (so its impervious to server time zone shifts). An accidental shift of timezones on the server messed this relationship up at the database level and i'm now trying to figure out the ideal congiguration: configure Mysql to be in UTC, but also from the perspective that: our application may be on someone else's server where they might have a different TZ (so i cant set the timezone at the mysql/server level). How do i configure it at the specific database level?

  • I having a problem with the mysqli free() member function

    Hi I have code where I connected to the database like so: $db = new mysqli("localhost", "user", "pass", "company"); Now when I query the database like so: //query calls to a stored procedure 'user_info' $result = $db->query("CALL user_info('$instruc', 'c_register', '$eml', '$pass', '')"); //I use the $result This query works well. Now when I try and free that result like so: $result->free(); or $result->close(); It seems like it doesn't do anything because $result is still set. When I try to run another query it gives me this error: Fatal error: Call to a member function fetch_array() on a non-object in... For me to run this other query I have to close the db conection and connect again, then it will work. I want to know if there is a way I could run the other query without having to disconnect and reconnect to the database. thanks in advance.
