• Referencing an Array with Objects in iPhone SDK

  Hello! I was able to deduce my issue: I'm having problem referencing a string with an object within an array. Here's the code: -(IBAction)checkWord:(id)sender { NSMutableArray *array = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [array addObject:@"BIKE"]; NSString *dudeMan = theWord; if([array containsObject:dudeMan]) { NSLog(@"Awesome!"); } "theWord" is a String object that has been concatenated from 4 letters. It spells "BIKE", and I know this from a NSLog routine further up my code. However, for some reason, even though it spells BIKE, it will not reference correctly with the object within the array. if I change the code to: NSString *dudeMan = @"BIKE"; then the code will work. If it is phrased as: NSString *dudeMan = theWord; Where 'theWord' is BIKE, then the program won't work. Any ideas? Thank you for your help!

• Upgrading VSTO project to .net 4 - What references do I actually need?

  I'm developing an application for Office. It originally targeted .net 3.5, but I decided to upgrade to .net 4 because of some WPF issues that I've run into. When I switched all the projects in my solution and rebuilt, I got an error saying to include System.Xaml. I did that and rebuilt, and VS2010 told me to include another reference, so I did. This happened a couple more times, and finally it asked me to include Microsoft.Office.Tools.Common.v9.0, and when I did I got this error: Microsoft.Office.Tools.CustomTaskPaneCollection exists in both Microsoft.Office.Tools.Common.v9.0.dll and Microsoft.Office.Tools.Common.dll I have both Microsoft.Office.Tools.Common.v9.0 and Microsoft.Office.Tools.Common referenced in my project, but the problem is that if I remove either, I get an error. Am I doing something wrong? Is it odd that I would need both references? I find it strange that CustomTaskPaneCollection would be defined in two different binaries. If I remove Microsoft.Office.Tools.Common, the error that I get is "Cannot find the interop type that matches the embedded interop type 'Microsoft.Office.Tools.IAddInExtension'. Are you missing an assembly reference?"

I know the silverlight/wcf calls are called asyncrously -but how can I ensure that my wcfPhotographers, wcfCategories and wcfCategories objects are ready before the foreach loop start? • Set Server Side OnClick() event Programmatically

  I am looking for a way to programmatically set the OnClick event handler for a TableCell object. The ASP equivalent of what I'm trying to do will look like this: <asp:TableCell OnClick="clickHandler" runat="server">Click Me!</asp:TableCell> In the above example, "clickHandler" is a server-side function defined in the .cs CodeBehind. public virtual void clickHandler(object sender, EventArgs args) {...} However, for my situation, this TableCell object needs to be created dynamically, so setting it in an ASP tag is not an option. I am trying to do something like the following in the CodeBehind: System.Web.UI.WebControls.TableRow row = new System.Web.UI.WebControls.TableRow(); System.Web.UI.WebControls.TableCell cell = new System.Web.UI.WebControls.TableCell(); cell.Text = "Click Me!"; cell.Attributes.Add("onClick", "clickHandler"); row.Cells.Add(cell); Unfortunately, in this situation: cell.Attributes.Add("onClick", "clickHandler"); the "clickHandler" only works as a client-side javascript function. What I'm looking for is a way to link the server-side clickHandler() function, defined in the .cs CodeBehind, to this table cell. • SQL Server Search Proper Names Full Text Index vs LIKE + SOUNDEX

  I have a database of names of people that has (currently) 35 million rows. I need to know what is the best method for quickly searching these names. The current system (not designed by me), simply has the first and last name columns indexed and uses "LIKE" queries with the additional option of using SOUNDEX (though I'm not sure this is actually used much). Performance has always been a problem with this system, and so currently the searches are limited to 200 results (which still takes too long to run). So, I have a few questions: Does full text index work well for proper names? If so, what is the best way to query proper names? (CONTAINS, FREETEXT, etc) Is there some other system (like Lucene.net) that would be better? Just for reference, I'm using Fluent NHibernate for data access, so methods that work will with that will be preferred. I'm using SQL Server 2008 currently. EDIT I want to add that I'm very interested in solutions that will deal with things like commonly misspelled names, eg 'smythe', 'smith', as well as first names, eg 'tomas', 'thomas'.   I'm trying to create an assembly dynamically in .Net. I can't seem to figure out how to get the CodeBase property to return a value, however. • PHP Performance Metrics

  I am currently developing a PHP MVC Framework for a personal project. While I am developing the framework I am interested to see any notable performance by implementing different techniques for optimization. I have implemented a crude BenchMark class that logs mircotime. The problem is I have no frame of reference for execution times. I am very near the beginnig of this project with a database connection and a few queries but no output (bar some debugging text and BenchMark log). I have a current execution time of 0.01917 seconds. I was expecting this to be lower but as I said before I have no frame of reference. I appreciate there are many variables to take into account when juding performance but I am hoping to find some sort of metric to a) techniques to measure performance for example requests per second and b) compare results for example; how a "moderately" sized PHP application on a "standard" webserver will perform. I appreciate "moderately" and "standard" are very subjective words so perhaps a table of known execution times for a particular application (eg StackOverFlow's executing time). What are other techniques of measuring performance are there other than execution time? When looking at MVC Framework Performance Comparisom it talks about Requests Per Second (RPS). How is this calculated? I am guessing with my current execution time of 0.01917 seconds can handle 52 RPS (= 1 / 0.01917 ). This seems to be significantly lower than that quoted on the graph especially when you consider my current limited funcitonality.

  Django's post_save signal behaves weirdly with models using multi-table inheritance I am noticing an odd behavior in the way Django's post_save signal works when using a model that has multi-table inheritance. I have these two models: class Animal(models.Model): category = models.CharField(max_length=20) class Dog(Animal): color = models.CharField(max_length=10) I have a post save callback called echo_category: def echo_category(sender, **kwargs): print "category: '%s'" % kwargs['instance'].category post_save.connect(echo_category, sender=Dog) I have this fixture: [ { "pk": 1, "model": "animal.animal", "fields": { "category": "omnivore" } }, { "pk": 1, "model": "animal.dog", "fields": { "color": "brown" } } ] In every part of the program except for in the post_save callback the following is true: from animal.models import Dog Dog.objects.get(pk=1).category == u'omnivore' # True When I run syncdb and the fixture is installed, the echo_category function is run. The output from syncdb is: $ python manage.py syncdb --noinput Installing json fixture 'initial_data' from '~/my_proj/animal/fixtures'. category: '' Installed 2 object(s) from 1 fixture(s) The weird thing here is that the dog object's category attribute is an empty string. Why is it not 'omnivore' like it is everywhere else? As a temporary (hopefully) workaround I reload the object from the database in the post_save callback: def echo_category(sender, **kwargs): instance = kwargs['instance'] instance = sender.objects.get(pk=instance.pk) print "category: '%s'" % instance.category post_save.connect(echo_category, sender=Dog) This works but it is not something I like because I must remember to do it when the model inherits from another model and it must hit the database again. The other weird thing is that I must do instance.pk to get the primary key. The normal 'id' attribute does not work (I cannot use instance.id). I do not know why this is. Maybe this is related to the reason why the category attribute is not doing the right thing?

• Solving problems involving more complex data structures with CUDA

  So I read a bit about CUDA and GPU programming. I noticed a few things such that access to global memory is slow (therefore shared memory should be used) and that the execution path of threads in a warp should not diverge. I also looked at the (dense) matrix multiplication example, described in the programmers manual and the nbody problem. And the trick with the implementation seems to be the same: Arrange the calculation in a grid (which it already is in case of the matrix mul); then subdivide the grid into smaller tiles; fetch the tiles into shared memory and let the threads calculate as long as possible, until it needs to reload data from the global memory into shared memory. In case of the nbody problem the calculation for each body-body interaction is exactly the same (page 682): bodyBodyInteraction(float4 bi, float4 bj, float3 ai) It takes two bodies and an acceleration vectors. The body vector has four components it's position and the weight. When reading the paper, the calculation is understood easily. But what is if we have a more complex object, with a dynamic data structure? For now just assume that we have an object (similar to the body object presented in the paper) which has a list of other objects attached and the number of objects attached is different in each thread. How could I implement that without having the execution paths of the threads to diverge? I'm also looking for literature which explains how different algorithms involving more complex data structures can be effectively implemented in CUDA.

  I'm fairly new to the DI/IoC concept and would like to use Autofac in a 3-layered ASP.NET Webforms application. UI layer: An ASP.NET webforms website. BLL: Business logic layer which calls the repositories on DAL. DAL: .EDMX file (Entity Model) and ObjectContext with Repository classes which abstract the CRUD operations for each entity. Entities: The POCO Entities. Persistence Ignorant. Generated by Microsoft's ADO.Net POCO Entity Generator. I have asked a more general question here. Basically, I'd like to create an obejctcontext per HttpContext in my DAL. But i don't want to add a reference to DAL in UI or access to HttpContext in DAL directly. I guess this is where IoC tools come to play. The answer to my previous question is a very good example of using Windsor Castle. I'd like to use Autofac as my IoC tool and Don't know how to achieve this. (How to access DAL in application_start to register the component while I don't want to reference it in my UI, what are the proper references to be able to use DAL component in BLL with Autofac, Should I register BLL as a component with Autofac too) Sorry folks for not providing an explicit question and requesting a kind of working example, But I'm very unfamiliar to the whole IoC concept and I don't think I can achieve it to use in my current time-limited project.

• Browser security when calling HTTP assets via a SWF on a HTTPS site

  We have a site that runs on HTTPS and needs to pull in various JS assets to run a video player on the page. We get a browser security warning on this page because the JS files we are externally calling are being accessed via HTTP, not HTTPS. E.g. // HTTP reference on a HTTPS site <script src="http://the-cdn.tld/player.js"></script> Simply accessing this one JS assets via HTTP and not HTTPS will cause the browser security warning which we need to get rid of. The provider of the JS file does not support an HTTPS equivalent (like Google Analytics does). We would ideally love to just do the following, but the provider does not have this: // HTTPS reference on a HTTPS site <script src="https://the-cdn.tld/player.js"></script> One option we had was to just download a copy of the JS file and serve it on the HTTPS site, however we have concerns with this as it is not recommended by the provider and will not include updates from them. Assuming we cannot do that, we were thinking a possible other option would be to use a SWF file as a proxy. We were thinking that we could have one of our flash guys create a SWF that loads in the HTTP-served JS file to the page. We were wondering that if this SWF makes the request, would that prevent the browser from showing the security warning or not? I assumed that we would still see the warning since the SWF is still making the request through the browser, but I wanted to see what the hive mind thinks.

• dynamic check_box using field_for in rails

  I have a many-to-many relationship with a link box, and I want to pull those models together into one form so I can update from the same page. I'm really struggling with getting the check_box to even show all the elements of my array - I've scoured the net and been working on this literally all day, and I'm finding it difficult to apply the information I'm reading to my problem. I'm also extremely new to RoR and I've been following a bit of an outdated video tutorial (pre 2.0) so apologies for my code. So far, I've got it to output only one key pair in the array (the last one) - although outside the form, the code used in the tutorial works exactly how it should. Thats of little use though! Host is the model for which the main form is for, and Billing is the outside model that I'm trying to add to the form. This is the code that works outside of the form from the tutorial: <% for billing in @billings -%> <%= check_box_tag('billing_title[]', billing.id, @host.billings.collect {|obj| obj.id}.include?(billing.id))%> <%= billing.title %><br /> <% end -%> I just need to know how to make it work inside the form.   Hello Everybody, The company details page in my system has a user control to show the founders of the company, that user control represents the founders by using a Rad Grid and three buttons for insert/edit/delete founders, the founders grid is being bind by using a WCF service. the insert button calls a javascript method that opens a Rad Window in which the user can insert the data for a new founder my problem is: in the Add Founder Rad Window I shouldn't save the new founder in the database, when I press Add the Rad Grid should be closed and the new founder should be added to the founders Grid's datasource, and then the grid should be bind again the questions is: what is the best way to do that, I don't want to use sessions nor json, I tried to use another wcf service which takes two parameters: reference to the grid and the new founder, and in this wcf service I get the old datasource then add the new founder to it and finally rebind the grid again, but I have faced some problems like how can I send the reference to the grid from javascript method to a WCF service, also if I add more than one founder how can keep track of the new founders and the original datasource if any of you can lead me to an example similar to my case this would be very much appreciated, also any comments and feedback are most welcomed

• jQuery HOW TO?? pass additional parameters to success callback for $.ajax call ?

  Hello jQuery Ninjas! I am trying, in vain it seems, to be able to pass additional parameters back to the success callback method that I have created for a successful ajax call. A little background. I have a page with a number of dynamically created textbox / selectbox pairs. Each pair having a dynamically assigned unique name such as name="unique-pair-1_txt-url" and name="unique-pair-1_selectBox" then the second pair has the same but the prefix is different. In an effort to reuse code, I have crafted the callback to take the data and a reference to the selectbox. However when the callback is fired the reference to the selectbox comes back as 'undefined'. I read here that it should be doable. I have even tried taking advantage of the 'context' option but still nothing. • Way to automate setting of MergeOptions

  I am looking for an automated way to iterate over all ObjectQueries and set the merge option to no tracking (read only context). Once i find out how to do it i will be able to generate a default read only context using a T4 template. Is this possible? For example lets say i have these tables in my object context SampleContext TableA TableB TableC I would have to go through and do the below. SampleContext sc = new SampleContext(); sc.TableA.MergeOption = MergeOption.NoTracking; sc.TableB.MergeOption = MergeOption.NoTracking; sc.TableC.MergeOption = MergeOption.NoTracking; I am trying to find a way to generalize this using object context. I want to get it down to something like foreach(var objectQuery : sc){ objectQuery.MergeOption = MergeOption.NoTracking; } Preferably I would like to do it using the baseclass(ObjectContext): ObjectContext baseClass = sc as ObjectContext var objectQueries = sc.MetadataWorkspace.GetItem("Magic Object Query Option); But i am not sure i can even get access to the queries. I tryed to use call_user_func(), but doesnt work (becose in this way i miss the matches parameter). Is there a way to do that, or have i to separate the process (doing before preg_match_all, for each match retrieve the replace value, and then a simple preg_replace)?

If someone could suggest a better approach, or point me to some reference matter I would appreciate it. The data would have organizations of many types. I am trying to do a 3 level classification (Class, Category, Type). Say if I have 'Italian Restaurant', it will have the following classification Food Services Restaurants Italian However, an organization may belong to multiple groups. A restaurant may also serve Chinese and Italian. So it will fit into 2 classifications Food Services Restaurants Italian Food Services Restaurants Chinese The classification reference tables would be like the following: ORG_CLASS (RowId, ClassCode, ClassName) 1, FOOD, Food Services ORG_CATEGORY(RowId, ClassCode, CategoryCode, CategoryName) 1, FOOD, REST, Restaurants ORG_TYPE (RowId, ClassCode, CategoryCode, TypeCode, TypeName) 100, FOOD, REST, ITAL, Italian 101, FOOD, REST, CHIN, Chinese 102, FOOD, REST, SPAN, Spanish 103, FOOD, REST, MEXI, Mexican 104, FOOD, REST, FREN, French 105, FOOD, REST, MIDL, Middle Eastern The actual data tables would be like the following: I will allow an organization a max of 3 classifications. I will have 3 GroupIds each pointing to a row in ORG_TYPE. So I have my ORGANIZATION_TABLE ORGANIZATION_TABLE (OrgGroupId1, OrgGroupId2, OrgGroupId3, OrgName, OrgAddres) 100,103,NULL,MyRestaurant1, MyAddr1 100,102,NULL,MyRestaurant2, MyAddr2 100,104,105, MyRestaurant3, MyAddr3 During data add, a dialog could let the user choose the clssa, category, type and the corresponding GroupId could be populated with the rowid from the ORG_TYPE table. During Search, If all three classification are chosen, It will be more specific. For example, if Food Services Restaurants Italian is the criteria, the where clause would be 'where OrgGroupId1 = 100' If only 2 levels are chosen Food Services Restaurants I have to do 'where OrgGroupId1 in (100,101,102,103,104,105, .....)' - There could be a hundred in that list I will disallow class level search. That is I will force selection of a class and category The Ids would be integers. I am trying to see performance issues and other issues. Overall, would this work? or I need to throw this out and start from scratch.

• dynamically created radiobuttonlist

  Have a master page. The content page has a list with hyperlinks containing request variables. You click on one of the links to go to the page containing the radiobuttonlist (maybe). First problem: When I get to the new page, I use one of the variables to determine whether to add a radiobuttonlist to a placeholder on the page. I tried to do it in page)_load but then couldn't get the values selected. When I played around doing it in preInit, the first time the page is there, I can't get to the page's controls. (Object reference not set to an instance of an object.) I think it has something to do with the MasterPage and page content? The controls aren't instantiated until later? (using vb by the way) Second problem: Say I get that to work, once I hit a button, can I still access the passed request variable to determine the selected item in the radiobuttonlist? If I come back to this first form again,by pressing the back button, the row is reset to 1. gSelectedPlant takes a value 1 and selectedindex = 0. This makes sense but I am not yet able to figure out how to maintain the value of gSelectedPlant. Yes it takes a null intitally but on databindingcomplete it becomes 1.

• Datagridview DateTime Format not using System Region settings

  I've got a datagridview that is hooked up to a bindingsource on my main form. One of the columns and datamembers in the bindingsource is a DateTime object. When the datagridview shows this item it doesn't use Window's default region settings for displaying datetime. The weird thing is, I can access this same DateTime object and print it to a text box, or even pass it off to another form with another datagridview and binding source and it actually shows up properly in that table. So then, why does the datagridview on my main form not use the regional date/time settings when converting the DateTime object to a string? I've checked that there was no special formatting applied to the datagridview and so I'm running out of ideas to check. Do you guys know if there is any super secret way to get a datagridview to follow system regional format rules or not? Also, since I highly doubt that I did something different with this datagridview vs the others in my application, the next potential area for issue could be on application load: Perhaps since this comes up when the application loads, it's not getting the same cultureUI settings as the other datagridviews? Any Help?

Or how can I make good use of sender? Any helps appreciated.
