• wget-ing protected content with exported cookies

  I have exported a pair of cookies from Firefox that are valid for the URL in question and tried accessing/downloading the protected content off that address, but the end result is a return to the login page. I have tried doing the same thing for 3 other websites with similar outcome. Any clues as to what I might be doing wrong? • Strange PHP output buffering

Both respond numbers 0...9 in every line. In case of first server each number is received every second.   Win7 How can I select multiple files in explorer and get a string of text listing the file names like i would get if i selected the files from within "open file" window of an application. for example if i have a Dir that contains 100 jpegs and i select 01.jpg, 05.jpg, 10.jpg in windows explore via ctrl+clicks or shift+click how can i get a text string that reads " "01.jpg" "05.jpg" "10.jpg" with or without the selected files full path " with out dragging the selected files to another window? I've tried copy and pasting into Note Pad and Word Pad and it either past the picts into the the application or a empty clipboard.

• No colors when running native windows shell application from mintty

  Hi. I have installed cygwin (i'm not very experienced with it), and try to run a native windows shell application from it, (msbuild.exe which is the build tool for the .NET framework, to be exact). When I run the application from the normal cygwin bash shell, the output of the application appear as it should with the text colors that I would normally see in the windows command line. But when I execute the program from a mintty terminal, there is no coloring of the output, all text is in the default foreground color. I'm puzzled, because I would have expected the color coding to be the standard ANSI color code escape characters... Can this be fixed?

  Where does Windows Mobile 6.0 store text messages that are in Outlook Mobile? I have not been able to find any information on the Web about where physically in the phone's filesystem the mailbox data is stored. I need to back up certain saved text messages before they are automatically overwritten, yet Microsoft provides no way at all to liberate the data. The device is a Palm Treo, and I can connect with Windows through ActiveSync and browse the filesystem, but I have no idea where to start. I may need to use some of this message history for legal purposes and it is important that I be able to preserve it. The normal Outlook on PCs uses .pst files to store a mailbox; is there something similar in Outlook Mobile?

• Save and restore multiple layers within a Photoshop action that flattens

  I'm editing comic pages with layers - "background", "foreground", "lineart" and "over lineart". I have a Photoshop action that includes a Mode-Bitmap command, which requires the image to be flattened. I need this part of the action because I use the Halftone Screen method of reducing the greyscale image to bitmap on the "background" layer, creating a certain effect. I am pretty sure there is no filter or anything else that gives the same effect. After the mode is changed to bitmap, my action changes things back to greyscale for further changes. This poses a problem. I only want to do the bitmap mode change on the background layer, and after I do the change I want to restore the layer structure as it was - with the foreground, lineart and over lineart layers back above the now-halftoned background. My current method of saving these layers and restoring them is clumsy. My action is able to automatically save the "foreground" layer by selecting it, cutting it, then pasting it back in after the mode changing is over. But, for the "ink" and "over ink" layers, I have to manually cut these layers, paste them into a new document, and later re-cut and re-paste after running my action. This is so clunky! What I would like to know is if it's possible to set aside my layers in an automated way, and then bring them back in, also in an automated way. An ugly (but functional) solution would be to replicate my actions of creating new documents and pasting them temporarily there, but I don't think Photoshop allows you to do things outside of your current document with an action. It seems to me that the only way to do what I want is to use the "hack" of incorporating the clipboard into the action as a clever hack, but that leaves me stuck as I have two more layers that can't fit onto that same clipboard. Help or suggestions would be appreciated. I can keep on doing it manually, but to have a comprehensive action would save me a ton of time.

• How to stop Excel Treating US dates as UK dates?

  I'm in the UK, I've got a problem where I've got a list of dates supplied in US format. Excel seems to treat the ones that are valid in both formats as UK dates, (e.g. 03/01/2012 becomes 3rd of January rather that 1st March), and treat the ones that aren't valid UK dates (e.g. 03/13/2012) as basic text. I assume this choice is something to do with my regional settings. What I want is the system to recognise that this column of text is supplied in US date format, and convert it into the underlying date representation for calculations. How do I do this?

  I have some spreadsheets where there are large number of cells that have essentially been used for free text. There is a finite set of values for this free text and most, if not all repeat. eg. A B C D 1 Monkey Gorilla Cat Dog 2 Dog Cat Gorilla Gorilla 3 Dog Dog Dog Cat There are probably 50 or so different cell values spread over multiple sheets and hundreds of rows and columns. I need to analyse this data and count occurancies, which is not a problem other than getting a list of unique values to start with and this has been driving me up the wall. What is the best way to produce this list. So from the above we would have Monkey Dog Cat Gorilla In order of preferred solutions, as this will need to be done monthly. It rarely has a screen or keyboard attached to it, but when I do attach a screen, I usually have to attach a keyboard too, because the darn console mode screen saver will be on and I'll need to hit a key to see what's going on. I'm aware that the setterm command can disable this, but it's a per-session thing. How can I make it so the machine never ever blanks the screen in text mode, even when it's first booted up and sitting at the login prompt?

• How do I set Windows 7 as default OS but retain Windows 8 Boot screen?

  I am dual-booting between Windows 7 and Windows 8 on a test workstation, and typically reboot 3-4 times per day. If I set Windows 8 as the default OS, I get the Windows 8 graphical boot screen, which is easy to 'see' during the boot process, but if I set Windows 7 as the default OS, I only get the Windows 7 text-mode boot screen. While I mostly want Windows 7 (at the moment), on the occasions I restart to get to Windows 8, I often 'miss' seeing the text-only boot and have to restart twice. Is it possible to (and if so, how do I) configure this such that Windows 7 is the default OS, but still having the Windows 8 boot screen appear? Edit: Just so you guys know, I've tried setting Windows 7 as the default both from the Windows 8 Boot screen itself, and from within Windows 8 -- neither of these have the desired effect.

• Euro character messed up during FTP transfer

  My customer is using a very outdated ecommerce management system on my hosting service. For that product, no support is being provided anymore by the vendor. Brief explanation: the shop website, that claims to run under LAMP stack, is built by an old Visual Basic Windows application running on MS Access. The user constructs the shop, defines the HTML template, adds products and categories, etc. Then the VB exe builds the PHP pages (one for each template page) and the SQL script to run on MySQL. It also uploads everything via FTP and runs the installation/upgrade script on its own. The problem Browsing the website, many products' descriptions are cut before the euro sign. For example, what was supposed to be "Product price €1000" becomes "Product price" The analysis MySQL contains a cutted description until the € sign, so it's not PHP fault The Access databases contain full description with € sign, so it's not fault of the webmaster writing bad description or eDisplay cutting them The SQL that will run once the site gets uploaded, stored on my local machine before upload, contains the € sign The same script, after being FTPed by eDisplay and opened with nano from SSH, shows the € sign messed up like this: ^À vsftpd log reports (obfuscated for privacy) Sat Dec 15 11:16:57 2012 22 xxx.xxx.128.13 1112727 /srv/www/domains/xxxxxx.it/htdocs/db.sql b _ i r xxxxxxx ftp 0 * c which seems to be a binary transfer (and also a huge security vulnerability because you can download the whole database from unauthenticated HTTP) The eDisplay internal FTP client provides no option for ascii/binary transfer modes [Add] Trying to manually upload the SQL file via SFTP shows messing up euro [Add2] Trying to manually upload using Xftp client with explicit ASCII mode doesn't fix too It looks like the file gets uploaded as binary. • Thunderbird: filters don't match links

  I use filters to remove some undesirable messages (in addition to the intergrated spam filter). This is great to avoid tons of boring people who want to sell me tons of boring stuff. My problem is, since years (so with every Thunderbird release I ever had, even the current one which is up to date) it is unable to filter links. For example I want to delete every messages containing a link to http://xxxxx.emv3.com/xxxxxx I never managed to remove those emails. I use a filter on the body, checking if it contains emv3 but this never match. Those emails are in HTML format, and the links are displayed as a text like "Visit our website" or so. If I write a HTML email with a link, my filter works. When this is a spam, this never works. When I save the email to a text file, I open it with notepad and I see several http://xxxxx.emv3.com/xxxx Any idea why this don't work ? And how can I do ?

• Can't copy paste on the first try

  When I try to copy and paste something from firefox to say notepad or word, it doesn't work on the first try. That is I go to firefox, select text, right click, select copy, then switch to notepad, right click, select paste, but it pastes not the thing which I copied just now, but whatever was in the clipboard before I copied. If after this I go back to firefox and copy that text again, and then go back to notepad, then it will paste correctly. So in order to copy paste something it takes me 2 tries. This doesn't always happen this way, but only sometimes. So sometimes I can paste on first try, but sometimes it takes me two tries. I am using firefox 7.0.1 and windows 7. Also it is not only with firefox, sometimes the same thing happens when I copy paste from other programs. What could be the reason, and how can I fix this?

• Is it possible in Gnumeric to paste-special only background colors w/o overwriting foregroudn colors, boldness, etc?

  I've written a huge complex spreadsheet in Gnumeric, with areas of different background and foreground colors, text and numbers in bold or various colors to indicate meanings. Certain cells ise a diagonal pattern combining the surrounding background color with black - this warns me not to alter those cells when I haven't had my morning coffee. Big problem is changing just the background color of an area - to do so wipes out boldness, foreground colors and the diagonal-pattern cells. I use "Paste Special" and choose Format to copy-paste colors from one area to another, or make the pattern of bold/normal of several rows match one that's done right. What I'd like "paste special - just the background colors (but preserve patterns and 2nd colors of backgrounds)" and "paste special - just the text style/fonts" but I've never encountered any such thing. Are the effects I want possible?

  I'm learning by mostly reading the documentation. Unfortunately, http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/set-transaction.html#isolevel_read-committed doesn't say anything, while it says everything. Confused? Me too. ndb engine supports only "READ_COMMITTED" transaction isolation level. A. It starts by saying "sets and reads its own fresh snapshot", which I translate to: The transaction is having a separated 'zone' which whatever it stores there - is what it reads back. B. While out-side of the transaction, the old-values are unlocked. C. It continues with: "for locking reads" sentence - No idea what it means. Question: they claim only READ_COMMITTED transaction isolation level is supported, but while handling a BLOB or a TEXT, they say the isolation is now "locked for reading" too. So is it a contradiction? can a transaction LOCK for reading just as well while handling something other than BLOB/TEXT? (such as integers)

• How can I edit unuusal clipboard content? [on hold]

  I'd like to edit application specific clipboard content, with an application specific format. There are clipboard managers that let me edit the plain text content, but I'd like to access clipboard content that application use for internal cut and paste. An example would be when you copy something from a web page in Firefox. When you look at the different formats in a clipboard viewer, there are three or so formats starting with "moz", with content that is not plain text. I'd like to edit that content before pasting it back into Firefox. Can this be done?

• Excel - Dynamic row reference based on the row I paste a formula into?

  I have a simple, oft-used formula that I paste as plain text into spreadsheets I receive. It looks something like this: =IF(D8="FOO", "BAR", "BAZ") It looks in D8 for the word "FOO". If it finds it it will show "BAR". If it doesn't it will show "BAZ" It works great. The problem is I have to paste this formula as plain text into many spreadsheets. It should ALWAYS look in column D for "FOO", however I don't always want it to look in row 8. I'd like it to look at whatever row I'm pasting it into. For example, if I pasted the above formula into row 25, say, I would like it to automatically change to this: =IF(D25="FOO", "BAR", "BAZ") Is there any way to achieve this?

• Excel: make comma separated list from column with blanks, fed by checkboxes

  I want to make a spreadsheet where user can check boxes on one worksheet, and have those values then be brought over, comma separated, into one cell, on another worksheet. The values of the checkboxes have to be capable of changing as a new row entry is made on the first spreadsheet. I have the associated name text of the checkboxes populating into an adjacent column when the box is checked (TRUE). This column is the one I want to pull the text from. I want it to also ignore blanks, and not include extra commas. I am not familiar with VBA, but with some hand holding, I could use some. Clever formula approaches also welcome! Thanks!

• MSWord table shading prints too dark

  My friend has a very light shading in his MSWord tables. However they still print too dark to read the text. When emailed to a colleague using the same printer, it prints light nicely. However they cannot find any setting that is different between them. Any ideas? Thanks! (P.s. for myself this would help for non-tables also, when 'highlighting' text. I do know that 'shading' gives more colour options for non-tables, but it would be nice to know anyway. Thanks)

• Windows 8: Multiple monitors with varying DPI? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Dual monitors on Windows - How do I set a different DPI or text size on each monitor? I'm running Windows 8 on my Macbook Pro Retina (220dpi) which has an external 24" monitor (~96 dpi). In Mac OS 10.8.2, the display settings seem ok and I can actually use both displays without usability issues. I don't know what scaling settings etc it uses but it looks fine. On Windows 8, however when I boost the DPI settings to take advantage of the retina display, it blows up the display on the external monitor - text is giant sized. How can I tell Windows 8 to use the real DPI settings of each monitor? NOTE: I'm not asking for Windows 7.
