  • Starting / Shutting down Problem

    i have ubuntu 12.04 installed on my laptop. There is the following starting/shutting down problem: When clicking the power button, the laptop starts for 1 second and after that abruptly shuts down. When starting again everything works normal. But after shutting down and starting again, the PC again has the same problem. This problem wasnt there when using Windows. What can I do? Thank you very much! Greetings, Richter

    I am trying to use OpenDNS for my newly installed Ubuntu 12.10... However I cannot insert custom DNS addresses... I am accessing Network, then at my wireless connection, no matter how many times I press the "options" tab at the low right corner (I am not using english Ubuntu, so the button might have a different name), nothing happens. Any ideas why or how should I configure my OpenDNS connection?

  • Sound recorder not responding, Ubuntu 12.10

    I don't know what is causing this. I've noticed lately after upgrading the computer at church to Ubuntu 12.10, the sound recorder will not record when the record button is pressed, and when I press it again, the message to continue without saving comes up. No matter what I choose the program completely locks up, and the only way I can quit the program is by going to system monitor and ending the process, I then reopen the sound recorder and it then works properly. Any thoughts as to what can be done to fix this?

    The default behavior in the Nexus 7 Image is to log straight in to the default user's desktop, bypassing the lightdm greeter. This seems like an acceptable behavior for testing the core but it's clearly insecure. I've changed the default password and would like lightdm to actually require the password to be entered, rather than just having a button that says "login". I've turned automatic login on and off in System Settings ? User Accounts but this doesn't help. Any suggestions?

    Can anyone make something out of this? After getting the invitation for upgrading from 12.04 to 14.04, I click on the 'Yes, Upgrade Now' button and I get a little window saying 'Authentication failed', Authenticating the upgrade failed. There may be a problem with the network or with the server. It's weird since I have a good solid connection while doing this. Thanks and any help would be great. Thanks again!

    I used to have button in my file viewer window that allowed me to easily change from list to compact to icons, which was really convenient. Now, in 12.04 (running gnome fallback mode to mostly keep my original layout) I don't have that anymore, I have to go to 'view' and then at the bottom of the menu choose the way I want to display the files. Any way to get this switcher back? In its place I just have a search function and buttons that I don't need and never use.

  • Fast (twice in <1s) pressing of the same key on keyboard is not recognized correctly. What can it be?

    If I press any button 2 times quickly (I mean with less one second of delay between the keystrokes), Ubuntu doesn't detect the second one. In particularly, Ubuntu seems to detect the pressure because when I push the backspace, I can listen the sound related to the beating, but it has no effect (the letter is not inserted in the text or deleted in backspace case). How to fix it? Note: I used Ubuntu 11.10

  • jQuery AutoComplete select firing after change?

    I'm using the jQuery UI AutoComplete control (just updated to jQuery UI 1.8.1). Whenever the user leaves the text box, I want to set the contents of the text box to a known-good value and set a hidden ID field for the value that was selected. Additionally, I want the page to post back when the contents of the text box are changed. Currently, I am implementing this by having the autocomplete select event set the hidden id and then a change event on the text box which sets the textbox value and, if necessary, causes a post back. If the user just uses the keyboard, this works perfectly. You can type, use the up and down arrows to select a value and then tab to exit. The select event fires, the id is set and then the change event fires and the page posts back. If the user starts typing and then uses the mouse to pick from the autocomplete options though, the change event fires (as focus shifts to the autocomplete menu?) and the page posts back before the select event has a chance to set the ID.     Dear experts, I would like to combine a the mousedown and mousemove and mouseup events together. Basically the application of this would be making a UI for selecting elements. Like selecting icons in windows when the mouse is clicked down and as you move it, a dotted border dynamically moves with it. I know this is possible with the predefined UI of Jquery. But I am building a web application that requires the integration of this and would like to know the technique.   • WPF: Animating TranslateTransform from code

    I have a WPF canvas on which I'm dynamically creating objects from code. These objects are being transformed by setting the RenderTransform property, and an animation needs to be applied one of those transforms. Currently, I can't get properties of any transform to animate (although no exception gets raised and the animation appears to run - the completed event gets raised). In addition, if the animation system is stressed, sometimes the Storyboard.Completed event is never raised. All the examples I've come accross animate the transforms from XAML. MSDN documentation suggests that the x:Name property of a transform must be set for it to be animatable, but I haven't found a working way to set it from code. Any ideas?
