• Transparent checkbox with theme-support?

  I'm looking for a simple, transparent checkbox component that properly supports XP/Vista/7 theming. It should also work with Delphi 7. I've found a component on Torry's that's not working properly, and I know that Raize components has a transparent checkbox - but I'm obviously not going to pay $300 for the entire package just to get this single component. I've also found many other solutions, but none of them support theming. The main problem is that TCustomCheckBox is a TWinControl descendant, and in order to implement transparency, you need to make a new TGraphic descendant control from ground up. Any ideas?

• Alternative to Microsoft Agent / Fix for color issue?

  I've got an app that does Text-To-Speech; but I wanted to show an animated face/character to go with it. I found a tutorial on Microsoft Agent and I implemented it in my vb.net app. The problem is with the transparency color. Unless I run application in compatibility mode/256 colors, the characters will appear with a purplish-pink background image instead of a transparent back-color. But running the app in 256 colors the rest of the app looks awfully out of place. First - is there something that works similar to MS Agent I can use that would be more appropriate? Second - if I'm still MS Agent - can I get the transparent color to work correctly without limiting myself to 256 colors?

• Drawing a bitmap in a canvas after calling setBitmap doesn't work

  I'm drawing a bitmap in a canvas and i want to have the result in a new bitmap, but i still have a black screen as result. This is my code, part of the onDraw(Canvas canvas) method : if (bitmapTemplate == null) { canvasBis = new Canvas(); bitmapTemplate = Bitmap.createBitmap(canvas.getWidth()+30,canvas.getHeight(),Bitmap.Config.ARGB_8888); drawZones(canvasBis,bitmapTemplate); } bitmapRes = Bitmap.createBitmap(canvas.getWidth()+30,canvas.getHeight(),Bitmap.Config.ARGB_8888); canvas.setBitmap(bitmapRes); canvas.drawBitmap(bitmapTemplate, matrix, null); My goal is to have a new bitmap (bitmapRes) by applying a matrix on an existing bitmap (bitmapTemplate). With this code i alway have a black screen, but when i remove the line canvas.setBitmap(bitmapRes) i have a result but not in a new bitmap. any ideas please ? Maybe transparency ? They're like those default properties from the Windows COM days of yore, where you could type something like val = obj(arguments) and it would be interpreted as val = obj.defaultMethod(arguments) I just found out JavaScript has the same thing: the default method of a RegExp object appears to be 'exec', as in /(\w{4})/('yip jump man')[1] ==> jump This even works when the RegExp object is assigned to a variable, and even when it's created with the RegExp constructor, instead of /.../, which is good news to us fans of referential transparency. Where is this documented, and/or is it deprecated?

• IE6 image scaling with bicubic filter

  I have a project where I have to resize some images in the actual browser side. IE8, FF3 et al all apply a filter to smooth the resizing of the image, so in these browsers everything looks good. In IE7 I have applied the following fix which works great: -ms-interpolation-mode:bicubic; In IE6 however I can only find references to the AlphaImage Filter (the same one used to enable alpha transparency on PNG files). However I can't find an example of how to use it, nor have I been able to get it working myself. Can anyone provide me with an example? Preferably applied to actual img tags, though I could use background images if required. • Highlight polygon and tint rest of map using Google Maps

  Hi, I'd like to display a highlighted polygon using Google Maps. The idea is that the polygon in question would be displayed normally and the rest of the map should be darkened a little bit. Here's an example image what I would like to accomplish with a polygon from Austria: Unfortunately, I'm a complete rookie when it comes to Google Maps API's and map stuff in general. So, is this even possible do this with Google Map API's? If yes, with what version (v2, v3)? Would it be easier to do it with other map toolkits, like openlayers? PS: One idea I had, was to build an inverse polygon (in this example, the whole world minus the shape of austria) and then display a black colored overlay with transparency using this inverted polygon. But that seems to be quite complicated to me.

• Should we bother about IE < 8?

  Hi there. It might look like philosophical question, however it really bother me. We're expecting HTML 5, we're using JS, Ajax, Flex, all this stuff, but when older browsers were devleoped, nooone even dreamed about such technologies. IE6 can't see transparency in PNG's. Some correct W3C techniques, are bad interpreted by IE6. It's just too old for our "new" world. IE7 is sight better better than IE6, but it still has some weird errors. How many people use IE6 now? And if someone upgraded to IE7, doesn't he already upgraded to IE8? Should we bother about those browsers? (sorry for bad eng, but noone in my country answered me to this)

• exportDocument() 'destination folder does not exist' error

  I'm trying to make a script in photoshop that will modify some layers and than export them as a PNG image. I've copied the following code from another place: function SavePNG(saveFile){ var pngOpts = new ExportOptionsSaveForWeb; pngOpts.format = SaveDocumentType.PNG pngOpts.PNG8 = false; pngOpts.transparency = true; pngOpts.interlaced = true; pngOpts.quality = 100; activeDocument.exportDocument(saveFile,ExportType.SAVEFORWEB,pngOpts); } The function export the active document of photoshop to the file specified by the saveFile parameter. It's working fine with simple paths like 'C:\images\result.png' but when trying with different paths like '~/Desktop/' or paths with some special characters the file isn't exported, and a 'destination folder does not exist' error massage appear. Any idea how can I solve it?

• jQuery drag and drop behavior with partially transparent image

  I'm trying to develop a drag-and-drop behavior based on the jQuery UI draggable behavior but am running into some road blocks. I want to be able to drag several images with transparent regions around a region of the screen. I want the user to be able to drag the image he clicks and not just whatever draggable div or PNG happens to be z-indexed on top. The below image is a screen grab from my test page. If I click the lower left region of the blue square through the red thing I should drag the square and not the red thing. The red thing is what gets dragged though because it is on top and the browser does not care about the transparency. My question is, how can I make it behave as expected in this situation and drag the square instead? Edit: Seems I can't attach images as a new user.   I have tried every way I can find but the background is always black. Is there any way to keep the transparency of the first image when GD ises it in PHP?   I am putting a presentation together. I thought about illustrating with websites like Facebook, and MySpace. Does anyone have children around that age that could tell me what they are into? • Using DynamicVertexBuffer in XNA 4.0

  I read about DynamicVertexBuffer, and how it's supposed to be better for data that changes often. I have a world built up by cubes, and I need to store the cubes' vertices in this buffer to draw them to the screen. However, not all cubes have vertices (some are air, which is transparent) and not all faces of the cubes need to be drawn either (they are facing each other), so how do I keep track of what vertices are stored where in the buffer? Also, certain faces need to be drawn last, namely the ones with transparency in them (like glass or leaves), and these faces also need to be drawn in a back-to-front order to not mess up the alpha blending. If all of these vertices are stored arbitrarily in this buffer, how do I know what vertices are where? Also, the number of vertices can change, but the DynamicVertexBuffer doesn't seem very dynamic to me, since I can't change it's size at all. Do I have to recreate the buffer every time I need to add or remove faces?

• Layers with GDI+

  I'm thinking of creating a drawing program with layers, and using GDI+ to display them. I want to use GDI+ because it supports transparency. The thing is, drawing lines to the DC is very fast, but drawing directly to a bitmap is very slow. It is only fast if you lock the bits and start setting pixels. Can I draw to multiple DC's in my WM_PAINT event, then just do DrawBitmap for each layer to the MemDC? What's the best way of going about this? Thanks

• Make the Firefox Awesome Bar Semi-Transparent Like Google Chrome

  Would you like to make the Firefox Awesome Bar drop-down menu semi-transparent like in Google Chrome?  Here’s a quick trick that can make your Firefox Awesome Bar a bit more awesome. When you type an address or search query into the address bar in Google Chrome, the drop-down list of history and search suggestions that appears is slightly transparent.  Nothing extreme, but it adds a nice touch. Firefox’s Awesome bar, on the other hand, is fully opaque by default. We can change that with a simple change.  Exit Firefox, then open your Firefox profile folder by entering the following in the address bar in Explorer or in the Run command: %appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ Open the default folder, and then open the Chrome folder in it. Now, open the userChrome.css file in an editor such as Notepad.  If you do not have a userChrome.css file, open the userChrome-example.css file instead. Now, add the following to the end of the file: #PopupAutoCompleteRichResult[type="autocomplete-richlistbox"]{    opacity: 0.9 !important;} You can change the opacity value, but 0.9 seemed the closest to Chrome’s transparency while keeping the text readable. Save the file as userChrome.css in that same folder.  If you’re editing with Notepad, make sure to select to save as All Files so the file won’t be saved with a .txt extension. Open Firefox, and now your Awesome Bar’s drop-down list will be transparent.  Actually, it may look even more awesome than Google Chrome’s address bar! Conclusion With this simple trick, you can make your Firefox Awesome bar a bit more awesome.  With tweaks like this, it’s no wonder Firefox is still so popular.
