• Comcast SMC Port Forwarding Issue

  I have a Comcast SMCD3G modem/router and I've been having issues getting the port to forward - When I check an online "open-port-checker" it says the port is forwarded/they can see the port on my IP. (1 Static IP is assigned to the modem) But when I try to access port 80 for example on a browser, it times out. Also when I try to remote desktop to the server (Windows Server 2008 R2) it doesn't work, yet canyouseeme.org says it is open. Any ideas as to what the problem could be?

• Sending a UDP message to a computer inside a network

  Say I have the ip and mac address of a computer inside a network and I wish to send him a UDP message. By initializing the mac and ip addresses of the sent message to the given, when the network router recives the message he should pass it to the computer with the same mac address...right? Im asking becuase a program I write dosent seem to handle this limitation. it works great when its on the same network, but otherwise ...nada. Thanks

• How can I make my livebox route to my external IP address for a computer in the DMZ?

  I have a sagem livebox 2 (Fiber optic model), and have placed my computer in a DMZ. People from outside of my network can access my comp fine via its external dyndns.org address, yet when I try to call the public dyndns.org address from inside my network, I get redirected to the internal admin site on the router. How can I make it so that I can see my comp from the public address like everyone else? What kinds of questions should I be asking or looking into? Thanks

  Over the weekend an internet-facing DI-624 router of mine was e-mailing me logs like crazy for some reason. Normally it's a few a day, but it was about one every few minutes instead. Analyzing the messages, I found that only 340 had the same src and dst port number, whereas the majority of "default deny" dropped packets (28,000+) had the two ports different. What does this mean?

  I'm exampling Google's IPs, but you get the idea. What happens if somebody configures a router's LAN address pool to range from 62.231.75.2 to 62.231.75.255, then his computer's IP address to 62.231.75.232 and someone else on the network tries to access Google? Or better off, is there any case in which someone in that network can, by merely attempting to access Google, accidentally bump into another computer on the network?

• Wifi randomly drops on Windows 8 laptop

  First of all, I did a lot of research on this problem, and I wasn't able to come to any helpful conclusion. I've finally decided that I need advice from those who might know where to look. So don't let me down. :P I used to have an older Windows 7 laptop, which worked great for basic office and web browsing. However, I wanted something that would play actual modern games. So I recently bought a Sager NP8235 with the Intel Wireless-AC 7260 wifi card, and installed Windows 8 Pro on it. And ever since, I've been having problems with the wifi. Generally, what happens is if I leave the laptop on but inactive for an extended amount of time (I've estimated it around an hour to two), the wifi will start dropping randomly. If I happened to have a download going at the time, it usually causes the download to fail. Or, if I put the laptop to sleep overnight, the next morning I usually have to restart the computer because the wifi device apparently stops working (it literally won't turn on). Also, and most frustrating, whenever I'm on a video chat (like Skype), after about ten minutes, the connection will start lagging like crazy, until it forces Skype to end the call. After that, I usually have to disable and reenable the wifi to get it working again. I know it isn't our internet, because all the other computers in our house (~8) don't have any issues. Even the old Windows 7 laptop (connected also over wifi) works just fine, scoring the normal ~3Mbps average on speedtest.net (yes, I know our internet is slow, we live out in the country). Additionally, when I connect the Sager directly to the router via ethernet, the internet instantly starts working just great. Like I said, I've done a lot of googling to figure out what's going on, and I haven't been able to find anything that worked for me. Is it Windows 8 conflicting with the Wifi drivers? As of this writing, I have the Intel drivers v16.1.5.2 installed (without the extra Intel software). Or is it our router? It's a TP-Link TL-WR841ND, set to the default settings. The Sager is currently being assigned to a static IP, if that makes any difference. And yet, the old windows 7 laptop has a much more stable connection than the Sager. Anyone have any ideas? At this point, I'd appreciate even knowing what the problem is.

• How to close all tabs in Safari using AppleScript?

  I have made a very simple AppleScript to close all tabs in Safari. The problem is, it works, but not completely. Here's the code: tell application "Safari" repeat with aWindow in windows repeat with aTab in tabs of aWindow aTab close end repeat end repeat end tell I've also tried this script: tell application "Safari" repeat with i from 0 to the number of items in windows set aWindow to item i of windows repeat with j from 0 to the number of tabs in aWindow set aTab to item j of tabs of aWindow aTab close end repeat end repeat end tell ... but it does not work either. I tried that on my system (MacBook Pro jan 2008), as well as on a Mac Pro G5 under Tiger and the script fails on both, albeit with a much less descriptive error on Tiger. The problem is that only a couple of tabs are closed. Running the script a few times closes a few tab each time until none is left, but always fails with the same error after closing a few tabs. Under Leopard I get an out of bounds error. Since I am using fast enumeration (not using "repeat from 0 to number of items in windows") I don't see how I can get an out of bounds error with this... My goal is to use the Cocoa Scripting Bridge to close tabs in Safari from my Objective-C Cocoa application but the Scripting Bridge fails in the same manner. The non-deletable tabs show as NULL in the Xcode debugger, while the other tabs are valid objects from which I can get values back (such as their title). In fact I tried with the Scripting Bridge first then told myself why not try this directly in AppleScript and I was surprised to see the same results. I must have a glaring omission or something in there... (seems like a bug in Safari AppleScript support to me... :S) I've used repeat loops and Obj-C 2.0 fast enumeration to iterate through collections before with zero problems, so I really don't see what's wrong here. • Watchguard config, drop-in or mixed-routing mode?

  I have a Watchguard XTM 2 that is currently acting as a firewall and a router for my business network, I currently have the WG setup in mixed-routing mode and am happy with the current configuration. The reason I am curious about drop-in mode is because I would like to use all the interfaces on the back of the watchguard for the same subnet. My understanding is that drop-in mode will put them all on the same subnet, but it is unclear from the manual that the routing/firewall/vpn will still work as expected. This WG is right behind a DSL modem that is setup in bridge mode, so the WG is handling all PPPoE auth and routing for the network.

  Hello, I'm rebuilding my home network and I am look to an alternative to the very expensives Cisco. So I take a lookt at the software routers, I've found Vyatta and pfSense. I have tested both and I find both great, but I don't know which one to choose. I need a router software that : Supports IPv6 (both do with pfSense 2 RC1) Allows me to join an OpenVPN Network Is free Configurable by CLI (WebGUI is a plus) After some testing, it looks like both a very featured, but Vyatta looks more CLI-centric where pfSense looks more WebGUI-centric. Which do you recommend me ? Why ? Is there any limitations on the free version of Vyatta ? I would like to run it on a small box like Soekris ones, it that possible ? (pfSense will run it, but I'm not sure with Vyatta) Thank you

The VPN is is hosted by the cybersecurity club at my university, and connects to a sandboxed LAN designed for penetration testing against various servers that the club has built. My host (Windows 7 Ultimate) connects to the VPN fine and is assigned an IP through DHCP, but for some reason the VM can't do the same thing, and I'm not sure why. It's like OpenVPN is filtering out packets from the MAC address it doesn't recognize. I want the virtual machine to bridge over the VPN connection, because our IT office has very strict policies about what you can and can't do on the network. I want to be able to run active attacks (ARP spoofing, nmap, Nessus scans) in the sandbox environment without risking the traffic accidentally going over the university network and getting my internet access revoked. Bridging over the VPN connection and running all attacks from inside the VM would solve that problem. Any idea why the host can use this interface, but the VM can't?

• How to use router QoS?

  N00b question. How exactly does one use router quality of service settings? I've read up on it a bit but I'm still not exactly sure how to use it. So, my real questions are these: Generally, how does QoS work? How would one use it, say, to guarantee smooth performance in latency sensitive application (cough online gaming cough)? Performance for that sort of stuff bombs out on our connection when somebody is uploading files. I apologize if this is kind of sprawling. Suggestions to clean it up / edits welcome.

• I can't get router and switches configured properly for my home office network

  Networking Gurus, I recently built a new detached garage, with an office above. As such I had it tied into my existing home ethernet wiring. The ethernet signal is coming into the garage just fine, but I can not get my network configured the way I want because of problems trying to link the various router/switch devices. Please see the following links for the network diagrams: Home Network So basically, I can't my future state to work. I'm not sure if I'm using incompatible switches or what, but I tried the future state with some 4 port switches from best buy and had no luck. I resorted to setting up the Current State so I could operate. What I am looking for is help on how best to get my future state to work. • Cookies blocked by router?

  Hello, My friend has a D-Link DI-524 router that she uses for her home broadband. It's a pretty vanilla setup with the standard firewall settings, DHCP enabled etc. However, recently she has experienced something strange - cookies are not working on every computer on her LAN, whether using FF3.5 or IE8. I tried viewing the HTTP traffic using Fiddler2, and the requests come through fine (mind you, Internet browsing still works flawlessly) but whenever a website tries to set a cookie using the "Set-Cookie:" header, my computer sees that line as "Set-*ookie:" with the cookie contents removed. I have never seen anything like this - do you have any idea? Regards, Martin
