  • Best way to create a common folder when creating new users that is a drop box, readable and writeable by all users

    What is the best way to provide a common drop box for all users, so that any user that is a part of a particular group can read and write to and from the directory? I thought of creating a directory outside of the /home directory, creating a group specifically for accessing the directory, then adding all desired users to that group, and finally adding a symlink to the home directory of each user that points to the drop box folder. That seems like a lot of work. Is there a better way? I'm running ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

  • Is this a common/bug on this PPPoE setting for Cisco ASA 5505?

    We have to change the way the firewall setup due to we've changed the internet provider. The way we setup we have ADSL modem and we have to do a full bridge mode and the firewall configuration has to change from Static IP to Use PPPoE option on Outside interface with PPPoE username and password, CHAP authentication, WAN IP and WAN subnet mask. [See the attachment] It's been working ok with the use of PPPoE option however the issue is that if we un-plug the power cable of the firewall. This "Outside" interface turned to blank - NO WAN IP, PPPoE username and password. So basically, we have to retype this information again. Is this common or a bug? Any ideas? Thanks

  • Finding the most common errors in event logs using Powershell.

    I have the event logs for one of our servers locally in .evtx format. I can load the log file into PS using the command: Get-WinEvent -Path D:\Desktop\serverlogs.evtx What I would like to do is on the Message field group events where the text matches by a certain percent (say 80% the same). As we have stacktraces for errors in the details which will be the same, but we also log the client's IP, url that was accessed which will likely be different. I want to group them so that I can work out the most common errors to prioritize fixing them and as there are 25,000+ errors in the log file I would rather not do it manually. I think I can work out how to do most of this, but am not sure how I could do the 'group fields which are mostly the same' part, does powershell have anything like this built in?

    I recently had to change the name of my computer to log onto a public wi-fi spot, because a computer with my name was already logged on. (I asked a guy there what to do after it said there was already a computer named "Dell(omitted)" logged on.) I've never been at a wifi spot that you had to log into before. I didn't even notice what the computer's name was before. My question is what are the most common default computer names. I'm curious. How often does this sort of problem happen? (I read via Google that Redhat linux default to "localhost" and Toshiba laptops default to "Toshiba.") Somebody probably keeps statistics. (I was referred here from serverfault.com) Thanks

  • Where can I find details on installing and using Solr on Tomcat using the solr-common and solr-tomcat packages?

    I'm seeing lots of Solr/Tomcat installation instructions, but all of them install at least one of these packages from source. Since there's tomcat6, solr-common, and solr-tomcat packages (in Ubuntu 10.4), I'd love to use them, but I can't find any kind of documentation on installing using them. I can't even tell what directory solr is stored in. I get a "Welcome to Solr!" page at http://localhost:8080/solr/, but have no idea where the catalina home is, or where the solr configuration files are in this case. Can anyone point me to documentation?

  • Windows Start Menu Not Staying on Top

    Hey everyone. I've had this problem since Windows Vista. I did a clean install with Windows 7 and hoped it would fix the problem. Also swapped out the video card just to rule out a strange driver issue. Here's what's happening. After running for some period of time (usually a few hours), the Start button/orb will loose it's "Chrome" and turn into a plain button that just says "Start." It will work fine for a while, but then the start menu will just stop showing. Additionally, when I hit Win+D to show the desktop, the entire taskbar completely disappears. I can get it back usually by moving/minimizing windows that may be overlapping where the start menu should show. Otherwise, it requires either a full reboot or I'll end up killing & restarting the explorer.exe process.   • How to set the path to "context path" for uploaded files using Apache Common fileupload?

    Hi, I'm using Apache common fileupload library with Netbeans 6.8 + Glassfish.I'm trying to change the current upload path to be in the current context path of the servlet , something like this: WEB-INF/upload so I wrote : File uploadedFile = new File("WEB-INF/upload/"+fileName); session.setAttribute("path",uploadedFile.getAbsolutePath()); item.write(uploadedFile); but I notice that the library save the uploaded files into glassfish folder , here what I get when I print the absolute path of the uploaded file : C:\Program Files\sges-v3\glassfish\domains\domain1\WEB-INF\upload\xx.rar My Question : How can I force the common fileupload to save the uploaded file in a path relative to the current servlet path , so I don't need to specify the whole path ? is this possible ?

  • In Birt Reports - Displaying the most common string value in group.

    For this example data: Index, State, Food 1, CA, Hamburger 2, NY, Lettuce 3, CA, Cheese 4, NY, Lettuce 5, NY, Cheese 6, AR, Cheese I would like to group by State and show the most common food for each state. So the result for the example should be: State, Popular Food CA, Hamburger NY, Lettuce AR, Cheese The problem is I can't find an aggregation that would return the most common string. There is the 'mode' function but it only works on integers. Am I missing Something? Thanks!

    Hi all, I am building a common function library but the functions inside need to reference different jquery files, which they may need to be referenced in some pages but not in others. When I called this common function library in one web page which is only going to use one function, and I don't reference the files need it for the other function, then it will create a script error.   • What is best practice (and implications) for packaging projects into JAR's?

    What is considered best practice deciding how to define the set of JAR's for a project (for example a Swing GUI)? There are many possible groupings: JAR per layer (presentation, business, data) JAR per (significant?) GUI panel. For significant system, this results in a large number of JAR's, but the JAR's are (should be) more re-usable - fine-grained granularity JAR per "project" (in the sense of an IDE project); "common.jar", "resources.jar", "gui.jar", etc I am an experienced developer; I know the mechanics of creating JAR's, I'm just looking for wisdom on best-practice. Personally, I like the idea of a JAR per component (e.g. a panel), as I am mad-keen on encapsulation, and the holy-grail of re-use accross projects. I am concerned, however, that on a practical, performance level, the JVM would struggle class loading over dozens, maybe hundreds of small JAR's. Each JAR would contain; the GUI panel code, necessary resources (i.e. not centralised) so each panel can stand alone. Does anyone have wisdom to share?

  • Best practice for managing changes to 3rd party open source libraries?

    On a recent project, I had to modify an open source library to address a functional deficiency. I followed the SVN best practice of creating a "vendor source" repository and made my changes there. I also submitted the patch to the mailing list of that project. Unfortunately, the project only has a couple of maintainers and they are very slow to commit updates. At some point, I expect the library to be updated, and I expect that my project will want to use the upgraded library. But now I have a potential problem... I don't know whether my patch will have been applied to this future release of the 3rd party library. I also don't know whether my patch will even still be compatible with the internal implementation of the upgraded components. And in all likelihood, someone else will be maintaining my project by that point. Should I name the library in a special way so it is clear that we made special modifications (eg. commons-lang-2.x-for-my-project.jar)? Should I just document the patch and reference the SVN location and a link to the mailing list item in a README? No option that I can think of seems to be fool-proof in an upgrade scenario. What is the best practice for this?

    I've scoured StackOverflow and Google for an answer to this problem. I'm trying to create a Microsot SQL Server 2008 view. Not a stored procedure. Not a function. Just a query (i.e. a view). I have three tables. The first table defines a common key, let's say "CompanyID". The other two tables have a sometimes-common field, let's say "EmployeeName". I want a single table result that, when my WHERE clause says "WHERE CompanyID = 12" looks like this: CompanyID | TableA | TableB 12 | John Doe | John Doe 12 | Betty Sue | NULL 12 | NULL | Billy Bob I've tried a FULL OUTER JOIN that looks like this: SELECT Company.CompanyID, TableA.EmployeeName, TableB.EmployeeName FROM Company FULL OUTER JOIN TableA ON Company.CompanyID = TableA.CompanyID FULL OUTER JOIN TableB ON Company.CompanyID = TableB.CompanyID AND (TableA.EmployeeName IS NULL OR TableB.EmployeeName IS NULL OR TableB.EmployeeName = TableA.EmployeeName) I'm only getting the NULL from one matched table, I'm not getting the expansion for the other table. In the above sample, I'm basically only getting the first and third rows and not the second. Can someone help me create this query and show me how this is done correctly? BTW I already have a stored procedure that looks very clean and populates an in-memory table, but that isn't what I want. Thanks.

  • How do I Order on common attribute of two models in the DB?

    If i have two tables Books, CDs with corresponding models. I want to display to the user a list of books and CDs. I also want to be able to sort this list on common attributes (release date, genre, price, etc.). I also have basic filtering on the common attributes. The list will be large so I will be using pagination in manage the load. items = [] items << CD.all(:limit => 20, :page => params[:page], :order => "genre ASC") items << Book.all(:limit => 20, :page => params[:page], :order => "genre ASC") re_sort(items,"genre ASC") Right now I am doing two queries concatenating them and then sorting them. This is very inefficient. Also this breaks down when I use paging and filtering. If I am on page 2 of how do I know what page of each table individual table I am really on? There is no way to determine this information without getting all items from each table. I have though that if I create a new Class called items that has a one to one relationship with either a Book or CD and do something like Item.all(:limit => 20, :page => params[:page], :include => [:books, :cds], :order => "genre ASC") However this gives back an ambiguous error. So can only be refined as Item.all(:limit => 20, :page => params[:page], :include => [:books, :cds], :order => "books.genre ASC") And does not interleave the books and CDs in a way that I want. Any suggestions.

BACKGROUND: This follows on from the http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2489999/how-can-i-schedule-tasks-in-a-winforms-app thread REQUIREMENTS C# .NETv3.5 project using VS2008 There is an existing function which I want to run both (a) manually from within the WinForms application, and (b) scheduled via Windows Task. APPROACHES So what I'm trying to understand is what options are there to make this work eg Is it possible for a windows task to trigger a function to run within a running/existing WinForms application? (doesn't sound solid I guess) Split code out into two projects and duplicate for both console application that the task manager would run AND code that the winforms app would run Create a common library and re-use this for both the above-mentioned projects in the bullet above Create a service with an interface that both the task manager can access plus the winforms app can manage Actually each of these approaches sounds quite messy/complex - would be really nice to drop back to have the code only once within the one project in VS2008, the only reason I ask about this is I need to have a scheduling function and the suggestion has been to use http://taskscheduler.codeplex.com/ as the means to do this, which takes the scheduling out of my VS2008 project... thanks

    The Binary Tree here is not a Binary Search Tree. Its just a Binary Tree. The structure could be taken as - struct node { int data; struct node *left; struct node *right; }; The maximum solution I could work out with a friend was something of this sort - Consider this binary tree (from http://lcm.csa.iisc.ernet.in/dsa/node87.html) : The inorder traversal yields - 8, 4, 9, 2, 5, 1, 6, 3, 7 And the postorder traversal yields - 8, 9, 4, 5, 2, 6, 7, 3, 1 So for instance, if we want to find the common ancestor of nodes 8 and 5, then we make a list of all the nodes which are between 8 and 5 in the inorder tree traversal, which in this case happens to be [4, 9, 2]. Then we check which node in this list appears last in the postorder traversal, which is 2. Hence the common ancestor for 8 and 5 is 2. The complexity for this algorithm, I believe is O(n) (O(n) for inorder/postorder traversals, the rest of the steps again being O(n) since they are nothing more than simple iterations in arrays). But there is a strong chance that this is wrong. :-) But this is a very crude approach, and I'm not sure if it breaks down for some case. Is there any other (possibly more optimal) solution to this problem?

  • What do you call a set of Javascript closures that share a common context?

    I've been trying to learn closures (in Javascript), which kind of hurts my brain after way too many years with C# and C++. I think I now have a basic understanding, but one thing bothers me: I've visited lots of websites in this Quest for Knowledge, and nowhere have I seen a word (or even a simple two-word phrase) that means "a set of Javascript closures that share a common execution context". For example: function CreateThingy (name, initialValue) { var myName = name; var myValue = initialValue; var retObj = new Object; retObj.getName = function() { return myName; } retObj.getValue = function() { return myValue; } retObj.setValue = function(newValue) { myValue = newValue; } return retObj; }; From what I've read, this seems to be one common way of implementing data hiding. The value returned by CreateThingy is, of course, an object, but what would you call the set of functions which are properties of that object? Each one is a closure, but I'd like a name I can used to describe (and think about) all of them together as one conceptual entity, and I'd rather use a commonly accepted name than make one up.     I'm configuring a two node A/A cluster with a common storage attached via iSCSI, which uses GFS2 on top of clustered LVM. So far I have prepared a simple configuration, but am not sure which is the right way to configure gfs resource. This way when I issue clusvcadm -s shared-storage-inst1 clvm is stopped, but GFS is not unmounted, so a node cannot alter LVM structure on shared storage anymore, but can still access data. And even though a node can do it quite safely (dlm is still running), this seems to be rather inappropriate to me, since clustat reports that the service on a particular node is stopped. Moreover if I later try to stop cman on that node, it will find a dlm locking, produced by GFS, and fail to stop. I could have simply added force_unmount="1", but I would like to know what is the reason behind the default behavior. Why is it not unmounted? Most of the examples out there silently use force_unmount="0", some don't, but none of them give any clue on how the decision was made. Apart from that I have found sample configurations, where people manage GFS partitions with gfs2 init script - https://alteeve.ca/w/2-Node_Red_Hat_KVM_Cluster_Tutorial#Defining_The_Resources or even as simply as just enabling services such as clvm and gfs2 to start automatically at boot (http://pbraun.nethence.com/doc/filesystems/gfs2.html), like: chkconfig gfs2 on If I understand the latest approach correctly, such cluster only controls whether nodes are still alive and can fence errant ones, but such cluster has no control over the status of its resources. I have some experience with Pacemaker and I'm used to that all resources are controlled by a cluster and an action can be taken when not only there are connectivity issues, but any of the resources misbehave. So, which is the right way for me to go: leave GFS partition mounted (any reasons to do so?) set force_unmount="1". Won't this break anything? Why this is not the default? use script resource <script file="/etc/init.d/gfs2" name="gfs"/> to manage GFS partition. start it at boot and don't include in cluster.conf (any reasons to do so?) This may be a sort of question that cannot be answered unambiguously, so it would be also of much value for me if you shared your experience or expressed your thoughts on the issue. How does for example /etc/cluster/cluster.conf look like when configuring gfs with Conga or ccs (they are not available to me since for now I have to use Ubuntu for the cluster)?   • Why is the Amazon and Ubuntu One Music webapp part of common? Can it be removed without removing all others?

    I've just noticed that those two, which I have completely no use of, are part of the common package. This means I cannot remove them without removing everything. But I like all the other webapps, GMail, Docs and so on. I just don't want Amazon popping up in my launcher when I go there once a blue moon and not leaving until I turn Firefox off. Is there any way I can remove it without removing the rest?
