  • Ubuntu 12.10 not working on UX32VD after update to beta 1 [closed]

    - by bquast
Possible Duplicate: There's an issue with an Alpha/Beta Release of Ubuntu, what should I do? In my previous question I described my problem with starting / returning from suspend using Ubuntu on the Asus UX32VD (Zenbook). This problem could be solved by using Ubuntu 12.10 (alpha), however since the upgrade to beta 1 the old problem of starting / returning from suspend has returned. I found that starting in recovery does work, but this of course does not solve the problem. Any thoughts?

  • Making a file with terminal commands?

    - by iSeth
In Windows I can write a file containing commands for cmd (usually .cmd or .bat files). When I click on those files it will open cmd.exe and run them commands the file contains. How would I do this in Ubuntu? I'm sure this is a duplicate, but I can't find my answer. Its similar to these questions, but they don't answer the question: Store frequently used terminal commands in a file CMD.exe Emulator in Ubuntu to run .cmd/.bat file

  • How to Stream Videos and Music Over the Network Using VLC

    - by Chris Hoffman
VLC includes a fairly easy-to-use streaming feature that can stream music and videos over a local network or the Internet. You can tune into the stream using VLC or other media players. Use VLC’s web interface as a remote control to control the stream from elsewhere. Bear in mind that you may not have the bandwidth to stream high-definition videos over the Internet, though. • iOS + cocos2d: how to account for sprite's position for the different device dimensions in an universal app?

    - by fuzzlog
All the questions I've seen regarding iOS universal apps (with or without cocos2d) deal with the "how to add graphics to a universal app". My question is, how does the code need to be written to ensure that the sprites appear appropriately on the screen (given that an iPhone 5's resolution is not proportional to an iPad's resolution)? Is it just a bunch of "if" statements and duplicate code or do iOS/cocos2d provide common function calls that will place the sprites at an appropriate position?

  • Structure of a Git repository

    - by Luke Puplett
Sorry if this is a duplicate, I looked. We're moving to Git. In Subversion, I'm used to having \trunk, \branches and \tags folders. With Git, switching between branches will replace the contents of the working directory, so am I right to assume that the way we used to work just doesn't apply with Git? My guess is that I'd have a repo folder with maybe a gitignore and readme.txt, then the folders for the projects that make up the repo, and that's it.

  • How to see installed programs and the occupied space (not in Synaptic or Terminal)?

    - by cipricus
I am often running low on space on the system and home partition. I would like to see a list of installed programs and the space they take, in order to be able to make decisions on this matter. I do not mean a list with all components, 'secondary' programs and dependencies like in Synaptic, which I know can be also displayed in the Terminal -- so please do not set as duplicate of this question --, but just a list with the main programs (those that appear in the main menu) and with the space they occupy on the disk. (I use Xubuntu 12.10)

  • VPN vs. SSH Tunnel: Which Is More Secure?

    - by Chris Hoffman
VPNs and SSH tunnels can both securely “tunnel” network traffic over an encrypted connection. They’re similar in some ways, but different in others – if you’re trying to decide which to use, it helps to understand how each works. An SSH tunnel is often referred to as a “poor man’s VPN” because it can provide some of the same features as a VPN without the more complicated server setup process – however, it has some limitations. I run an ecommerce store that is hosted in Ireland, and ranks ok with google.ie The market for this comapny is the Republic of Ireland and the UK. Is it beneficial for me to have a UK hosted version of my site (.co.uk) to rank higher in google.co.uk (and other localised search engines of course). If so, how would I prevent the site from being punished for duplicate content? Thanks in advance for any assistance on the above.

  • Damageable ground similar to pocket tanks or archanists [closed]

It's strictly two dimensional, but it makes the experience that much more dynamic since you can dig a hole under your opponents or yourself. How is this implemented?
