I created a symlink using: ln -s /media/MYDISK /home/camilo/MYDISK chmod 777 /home/camilo/MYDISK I'm setting up smb.conf like this: [myshare1] comment = external disk browsable = yes path = /home/camilo/MYDISK guest ok = yes read only = no create mask = 0775 Also, in the [global] section I tried adding the following lines: follow symlinks = yes wide links = yes unix extensions = no The problem is that when browsing the shared folder in Windows 7, I get a "\\etc\myshare1 is not accessible" error. When pointing the path to a regular folder it works fine. Also, when I point it directly to /media/MYDISK, it shows the same error. EDIT: to make it more interesting, I have no graphical interface, so I need to touch the config files directly..

    I have two Windows 7 machines connected to a router. I created a shared folder on machine A, and I can access it from machine B. The transfer speed is great. However, there is sometimes a long initial delay when I try to access the shared folder from machine B. I'll click to open the folder, and windows explorer pauses for a few minutes before actually loading the contents of the folder. After it loads, however, I can navigate the subfolders and edit files with no noticeable delay. Then, some time later, I will get the huge delay on saving a file, after which subsequent saves have no delay. What is the problem here, and how can I fix it?

  • Running multiple FCGI/Django on Nginx for load sharing

    I am running a web-service on Nginx/FastCGI/Django. Our processing time is fairly long and CPU intensive and I would like to be able to run multiple processes of Django/FastCGI to share the load. How do I set Nginx to rout requests from a single source to multiple instances of Django/FastCGI? (I can run the multiple instances on multiple ports/sockets, but I don't know how to make Nginx share the processing load between them.) Any help much appreciated.

  • Set up DPM to use hardware VSS Provider with EMC Clariion SAN

    We recently purchased an EMC Clariion AX4 SAN and we're using it to provide storage for our Hyper-V virtual machines. I've already got the servers registered with it and configured the failover cluster CSV's, etc. I'm wanting to figure out what I have to do to set up the VSS Provider for the SAN, so that Microsoft Data Protection Manager can use it to backup the virtual machines. I'm new when it comes to Clariion SAN's, so I have no idea how to set up the VSS provider. I downloaded something from Powerlink that was labeled VSS Provider and installed it on one of the machines connected to the SAN. It had something to do with a Solutions Enabler (I don't know what that is), but it doesn't really seem like it did anything. I read something that suggested I'd need to have Navisphere Manager to use the VSS Provider on the AX4, but we didn't purchase that - we're just using Navisphere Express. Can anyone help me figure out how to get the VSS Provider up and running?

  • Windows Media Player Network Sharing eating lots of CPU

    There is a process, wmpnetwk.exe, which sometimes goes crazy and starts eating like 60-70% CPU. If I kill the process it just comes back again, so the only solution I've found is to stop the WMPNetworkSvc service, which makes the whole thing stop. I don't use WMP, so I don't care if this is disabled, but I'd like to know what's causing it (Google has revealed that it also happened to other people), and if there's a more permanent way of fixing the problem.

    I have a development setup from this tutorial: http://www.sitepoint.com/blogs/2009/10/27/build-your-own-dev-server-with-virtualbox/ But what I can't figure out is how to share a folder on my Ubuntu virtualized machine with the host Win7. I want to use a Windows text editor to edit code that's on my Ubuntu server. I've tried using the Shared Folders setting, adding "/var/www" but it says that the path is not absolute. When I click on "other", it only allows me to browse folders on my Win7 host. Both the host and guest are 64-bit OS. Thanks in advance!

  • Sharing internet connection from Windows XP using wi-fi router

    Hi, I have an network configuration like: Ethernet cable from ISP connected to Windows XP machine, configured with static IP 192.168.0.3 Another ethernet connection from 2nd Windows XP machine's network adapter to a Wi-Fi router (D-Link Airport G+) XP set to "Share internet connection", the 2nd adapter configured as static to 192.169.0.1 D-Link Airport Wi-Fi router also configured as "static connection", it's IP set to 192.169.0.2, default gateway set to 192.169.0.1. Network mask everywhere is 24. Laptop computer connected with the router with static IP 192.169.0.3 The problems are: XP machine sees the router (it's able to ping it and access it via the web admin tool) The router somehow cannot PING the XP machine (using the tool provided by the web-based admin tool) The laptop computer cannot ping anything and cannot be pinged The router is only accessible when the ethernet cable is connected with a router's 1-4 LAN port, when I connect it via "WAN" port (which I believe is the proper one) it's not visible from the XP machine If you have similar experience with configuring a network like this I would really appreciate your help. I cannot use the Wi-Fi router with the ISP cable itself.

    Trying to access my Mac from a Windows 7 computer, I fail with the infamous error 86 incorrect password. Now this appears to be a well-known problem with countless threads on the internet giving as many "solutions" as there are discussion threads about it (mostly ranging from installing third-party commercial samba servers, to switching to some other protocol, to compiling a plain-vanilla Samba installation - the latter which I will probably do when I give up this :) ) I am stubborn, and I believe there must be some problem here that can be solved or worked around, but there is surprisingly little detail about this problem. It appears to have something to do with a mismatch of authentication methods.     Is it possible to "share" a VirtualBox snapshot? I have a "baseline" VirtualBox machine, and I would like to be able to take a snapshot, and send it to another user which has the same baseline machine. The scenario is that the baseline machine is used for testing, and I want to allow testers to create snapshots which describe a certain system state, and send that snapshot to developers to further examination. EDIT: To clarify, I would like to be able to export snapshots "incrementally" without having to export the entire machine as an appliance.

  • Booting a Windows 7 installation on different hardware

    I'm in a situation where I could do with very quickly migrating a Windows 7 (RTM x64) installation from one machine to another. What options are open to me in terms of getting W7 to boot after the drive is picked up and moved from one box to another? I thought it was supposed to be a little less sensitive to this kind of move than XP, but it doesn't work - it is stuck in a reboot loop and never reaches a GUI. Tried a few things so far, none of which have worked: Changed SATA mode in the BIOS of the target machine between ATA and AHCI run Windows 7 Startup Repair tried safe mode, no change (I will keep this list up to date as suggestions come in) UPDATE: I can confirm this reboot loop is due to STOP error 0x0000007B, and these codes follow: 0xFFFFF880009A98E8 0xFFFFFFFFC0000034 0x0000000000000000 0x0000000000000000 UPDATE: I didn't get anywhere on this and I ended up just rebuilding the machine. I think it should be theoretically possible, so I'm going to leave the question open in case someone comes along in future with an answer.

I need them to disappear from the network (and stay gone across reboots), without my having to actually remove the shares (because they need to re-appear in a week). Is there something I can disable/stop on my machine (I'm thinking a service?) that will get this done? There are no network shares I need to keep available to the network (during this time).

    Let's suppose I have a laptop (L) and desktop PC (D), both with Windows 7 onboard. It is SB X-Fi extreme soundcard with rather good 5.1 home theater connected. But it is not comfortable to watch video sitting on the sofa from my desktop (sofa is in the center of the room and D is in the corner), even though it is 23" monitor. So I'm watching everything from the laptop. So the question - is it possible somehow to "share" soundcard from D to L, so I will watch the video from notebook and listen the sound from the 5.1? L and D are connected via wi-fi (fast enough).

  • Postfix not sending/allowing receiving of messages after server (hardware) changed

    We had na old notebook runing Ubuntu 12.04 working as a web/ftp/mail server and it worked but since the notebook was a notebook and pretty old and unreliable, a desktop was bought to replace it before it stopped working all together. Due to issues with the new desktop's vídeo card, we couldn't use Ubuntu 12.04 so we installed Ubuntu 13.10 and wen't about configuring it. Since we removed the notebook from the network, we kept the same Computer Name and local IP address to make things as close to the old server as possible configuration-wise. However, something has gone wrong since Postfix is throwing error 451 4.3.0 lookup faillure on every attempt to send a mail, and no email can be received either. EDIT: Here are some issues MXToolBox reports to my domain, answering hopefully to @Teun Vink: BlackList Mail Server Web Server DNS Error 4 0 2 0 Warnings 0 0 0 3 Passed 0 6 3 12 So the domain is on some blacklist, but that doesn't explain the error at all No mail server issues found (except it's not working) Those two web server errors it's because i don't have HTTPS workin (No SSL Certificate) so the test fails Those 3 DNS warnings we're already there when it was working with the other machine and are related to stuff i can't control: SOA Refresh Value is outside of the recommended range SOA Expire Value out of recommended range SOA NXDOMAIN Value too high I've searched and as far as i can tell only the guys who sold the retail can change those values and they won't. Edit2: I half solved the issue.on the new machine postfix was installed but postfix-mysql waasn't so he couldn't connect to the database (rookie mistake). After fixing that, i can now send mails to the outsider without any issues, however i am still not able to receive mails from utside.   • Sharing a folder with Nautilus and NTFS external drive gets errors

    I am trying to share a folder in Lubuntu over a network that's on an external NTFS drive. Due to the system that I have (rotating backup disks) this is probably the second time that the drive would of been mounted. Its manually mounted with a simple (for example) mount /dev/sdb1 /media/BACKUP On an internal NTFS disk I have successfully setup a network share and can access it. However on the external disk I can't from any other Windows computer. When setting up the share Nautilus said that it needs to change the other's permissions to allow for other users to write. However afterwords its still blank. Changing it to Read and Write just changes back to blank. Chowning the entire /media folder recursively and trying didn't work. Running PCManFM as root and changing didn't work. Adding "public=yes" to smb.conf and restarting didn't work. I'm out of idea's on what to do. What's weird is that it worked just fine on an internal NTFS disk, so why not the external one? Any solutions need to be able to managed inside of a gui (preferably Nautilus) as the person managing the machine isn't as tech savvy. Thanks
