  • Cant burn the iso file on disc and usb will not startup

    I am having very big problems trying to get this going for my old laptop. I tried burning the iso image with 5 different iso burning programs and none of the disks worked none started up. Then I tried to do the USB way used the program that puts it on the usb for you it starts up on my laptop fine but will not start up on my compaq presario 2178cl. If any1 can help me with this problem I would be much appreciative ty for your time.

  • "Permission denied" when accessing files outside Desktop folder after installing Ubuntu via WUBI

    After I installed Ubuntu by using Windows installer for Ubuntu Desktop, I found that I can only run executable programs in the "Desktop" folder. In any other folders, when I typed in something like ./a.out, there appears a Permission Denied error. Also, in the "Properties" dialog box of the file I want to execute, the box of "allow executing file as a program" cannot be chosen if the file is not in the Desktop folder. What should I type in the terminal to fix the problem?

    hello ol. I have a div having two buttons inside it as |Add| and |Cancel|. I didnt set any width to that div intially and as a result they were displayed vertically not in horizontal.then i add width in % to 11.5%.now the display is ok in moz but not in chrome and ie.i cant use pixels neither in height nor width.problem explanied by example |_______| // a textbox |Add| //initially with no width |Cancel| //after width to 11.5% in moz |_______| |Add| |Cancel| //after width to 11.5% in chrome and ie |_______| |Add| |Cancel| so u can see that in moz it is aligned to the above textbox but not in ie and chrome.hope sum ie hack or chrome hack may lead to correct result..or ONLY a MOZ hack..

  • Is problem solving of puzzles/logic tests a skill that can be developed with practise or only someth

    Programming is essentially problem solving/using a lot of logic. With solving puzzles (like the ones recruiters like MS etc ask), is this a skill that can be developed with practise or is it a skill that only someone who is gifted has (I assume the former as many people can pass these tests)? Even so, I keep thinking it is a special skill for someone gifted, not for someone with a lot of practise. I guess that with practise you are perhaps more open-minded and start to think out of the box more (solving technical problems in development may also foster this mindset perhaps). Thanks

    The Office 2013 and SharePoint Server 2013 Preview is announced yesterday and as a SharePoint Developer, I am really excited to learn all the new features and capabilities. Today I will show you how to install the preview. 1. Create a service account called SP2013Install and give this account Dbcreator and SecurityAdmin in SQL Server 2012 2. You need to run the following script to set the ‘maxdegree of parellism’ setting to the required value of 1 in SQL Server 2012(using sysadmin privilege) before configure the SharePoint Farm. Otherwise , you might get the error ‘This SQL Server Instance does not have the required maxdegree of parellism setting of 1’ sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1; GO RECONFIGURE WITH OVERRIDE; GO sp_configure 'max degree of parallelism', 1; GO RECONFIGURE WITH OVERRIDE; GO 3. Download the SharePoint preview from here and I am going to install it on Windows Server 2008R2 with SQL2012. 4. Click the Install software prerequisites, this works fine with the internet connection. (However, if you do not have internet connection, it is a bit tricky to install window azure AppFabric as it has to be installed using the prerequisite installer. Your computer might reboot a few times in the process.) 5.After the prerequisites are installed `completely, you can then install the Preview. Click the Install SharePoint Server and Enter the Product key you get from the Preview download page. 6. Accept the License terms and Click Next. 7. Leave the default path for the file location. 8. You can now start the installation process 9. After binary files are installed, you then can configure your farm using the farm configuration wizard. 10.Specify the Database server and the install account 11. Specify SharePoint farm passphrase. 12 Specify the port number , you should choose your own favorite port number. 13. Choose Create a New Server Farm and click next. 14. Double-check with the settings and click Next to Configure the farm install. 15. Finally, your farm is configured successfully and you now are able to go to your Central Admin site http://sp2010:6666/ 16. You should configure the services manually or automate using PowerShell (If you like to understand why,you can read the blog post here) ,however I will use the wizard to configure automatically here  as  this is a test machine. After the configuration is complete, you now be able to see your SharePoint Site. 17.To start the evaluate the Preview , you need to install Visual Studio 2012 RC , Microsoft Office Developer Tools for Visual Studio 2012,SharePoint 2013 Designer Preview , Office 2013 Preview.   • Installer Reboots at "Detecting hardware" (disks and other hardware) on all recent Server Installs

    I have a very frustrating problem with my PC. I cannot install any recent version of Ubuntu Server (or even Desktop) since 9.04 even using the text-based installer. I boot from a USB stick created by Unetbootin (I also tried other methods such as startup disk creator with no difference). On the Server installer, it gets to "Detecting Hardware" (the second one about disks and all other hardware, not network hardware) and then either hangs at 0% (waited 24 hours), or reboots after a minute or two. My system (late 2007): ASUS P5NSLI motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz 2 x 1GB Corsair 667MHz RAM nVidia GeForce 6600 I have unplugged everything (including the only hard disk, CD-ROMs and floppy). I have only one stick of RAM (tried each one to no avail) and am booting the installer from a USB stick (booting from CD-ROM yields the same problem). I also tried several of the boot options (nomodeset, nousb, acpi=off, noapic, i915.modeset=1/0, xforcevesa) in all combinations) to no avail. The only active parts of my system are the video card, mouse, keyboard and USB stick. I have also updated the BIOS to the most recent version. (FWIW, on the Desktop installer, I get a black screen after hitting the Install option.) Even after removing "quiet" I am unable to see what kernel panic is occurring (or not occurring) to cause the install to crash. I am only able to save the debug logs via a simple webserver in the installer.   • Installing Eclipse for OSB Development

    OSB provides 2 methods for OSB development, the OSB console, and Eclipse. This post deals with a typical development environment with OSB installed on a remote server and the developer requiring an IDE on their PC for development. As at 11.1.1.4 Eclipse is only IDE supported for OSB development. We are hoping OSB will support JDeveloper in the future. To get the download for Eclipse use the download WebLogic Server with the Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse, e.g. wls1034_oepe111161_win32.exe.To ensure the Eclipse version is compatible with your OSB version I recommend using the Eclipse that comes with the supported WLS server, e.g. OSB 11.1.1.4 you would install WLS 10.3.4+oepe.The install is a 2 step process, install the base Eclipse, then install the OSB plugins. In this example I'm using the 11.1.1.4 install for windows, your versions may differ. You need to download 2 programs, WebLogic Server with the oepe plugin for your OS, and the Oracle Service Bus which is generally generic. Place these files in a directory of your choice. Start the executable I create a new Oracle Home for this installation as it don't want to impact on my JDeveloper install or any other Oracle products installed on my machine. Ignore the support / email notifications Choose a custom install as we only want to install the minimum for Eclipse. If you really want you can do a typical and install everything. Deselect all products then select the Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse. This will select the minimum prerequisites required for install. As I'm only going to use this home for OSB Development I deselect the JRockit JVM. Accept the locations for the installs. If running on a Windows environment you will be asked to start a Node Manger service. This is optional. I have chosen to ignore. Select the user permissions you require, I have set to default. Do a last check to see if the values are correct and continue to install. The install should start. The install should complete successfully. I chose not to run the Quick Start. Extract the OSB download to a location of your choice and double click on the setup.exe. You may be asked to supply a correct java location. Point this to the java installed in your OS. I'm running Windows 7 so I used the 64bit version. Skip the software updates. Set the OSB home to the location of the WLS home installed above Choose a custom install as all we want to install is the OSB Eclipse Plugins. Select OSB IDE. For the rest of the install screens accept the defaults. Start the install There is no need to configure a WLS domain if you only intend to deploy to the remote server. If you need to do this there are other sites how to configure via the configuration wizard. Start Eclipse to make sure the OSB Plugin has been created. In the top right drop down you should see OSB as an option. Connecting to the remote server, select the Server Tab at the bottom Right-click in that frame and select Server. Chose the remote server version and the hostname Provide and name for your server if necessary, and accept the defaults Enter connection details for the remote server Click on the Remote server and it should validate stating its status.Now you ready to develop, Happy developing!

  • 12.10 unable to install or even run from Live CD with nVidia GTX 580

    I've used Ubuntu in the past (set up as web server, etc over in Iraq), so I'm not a 100% Linux Noob, however, I'm running into a brick wall here. I've got a machine I built when I got back to the US earlier this year, running Windows 7 Ultimate on it, and I've now got some free time and would like to transition over to Ubuntu full time. I've searched around in the forums, and there seems to be an issue with the nVidia graphics cards, so I've tried going to the EVGA site to see if I could find a new BIOS update for it and had no luck, so I'm back searching the forums here again and decided to just go ahead and post my question. My apologies if this is covered in another post and I was just unable to find it. I've found a few 'similar' posts, but nothing as bad as my issue. With the history aside, here is the actual detailed issue: I purchased a new SSD (Intel 520 SSD), arrived today, and I disconnect my old Windows 7 SSD. I had pre downloaded the ubuntu-12.10-desktop-amd64 earlier today and burned it to DVD. Upon inserting the Live CD into the computer and booting up, everything was fine up to the 'Run From Live CD' or 'Install Ubuntu Now' buttons. As I was sure I wanted to go ahead and make the switch, I selected the 'Install Now' from the right hand side. CD Spins up, black window pops up, and then the errors started: date/time GPU Lockup date/time Failed to idle channel 1 date/time PFIFO - playlist update failed date/time Failed to idle channel 2 date/time PFIFO - playlist update failed Thinking it might correct itself, I let it run and it would swap over to a GUI Screen that was locked up with major blurring/etc, then back to the command line with the errors. Eventually it said something along the lines of 'unknown status' and switched back to the GUI and froze. So, that's when I tried to see if I could find a BIOS upgrade for the nVidia GTX580 cards, and had no luck. So I thought, why not try to just run it from the Live CD and see if I can at least get a look at it, maybe if I could get it running try to do some sort of install from there and fix the driver issue. I rebooted, brought up the Live CD, and this time chose the left option / run from the CD. It brought me all the way in to the desktop, I saw my drives, the other icons, could move the mouse, etc for about 30 seconds and then it locked up completely. I've tried this a couple of times and get the same results every time. Hardware: Intel i7-3930K CPU @ 3.2GHz (12 CPUs) / MSI MS-7760 Motherboard / 32GB RAM / 2 x EVGA (nVidia) GeForce GTX 580 (4GB Ram each) So the question is: Is there any way to install 12.10 if you can't even get the Live CD to run (for more than 30 seconds)? My current hardware configuration is both of the GTX 580 cards have an SLI jumper on them, and I have 2 monitors on each card. (Ubuntu info obviously only shows on the main monitor from the failed installation and the attempt at running the Live CD). Perhaps opening the machine back up and removing the SLI Jumper and removing the other 3 monitors (so it only would have 1 video card with one monitor on it) would actually allow me to get 12.10 installed, then I could work on an nVidia Video Driver fix for the GTX 580, and then possibly hook up the other video card and monitors? Or is this something that they are currently aware of and may update with a future release in the next few days/weeks? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I can't even try to fix the issue (assuming it is the nVidia drivers) if I can't even get it to install at all.

All of the preliminary checks run fine (Apart from a warning about Windows Firewall and opening ports which is unrelated to this and shouldn't be an issue - I can open those ports). Half way through the actual installation, I get a popup with this error: Could not continue scan with NOLOCK due to data movement. The installation still runs to completion when I press ok. However, at the end, it states that the following services "failed": database engine services sql server replication full-text search reporting services How do I know if this actually means that anything from my installation (which is on a clean Windows Server setup - nothing else on there, no previous SQL Servers, no upgrades, etc) is missing? I know from my programming experience that locks are for concurrency control and the Microsoft help on this issue points to changing my query's lock/transactions in a certain way to fix the issue. But I am not touching any queries? Also, now that I have installed the app, when I login, I keep getting this message: TITLE: Connect to Server ------------------------------ Cannot connect to MSSQLSERVER. ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server.     I'm having a problem installing Ubuntu 12.10 on a new drive. I was running Windows7 on my SSD but when the drive crashed, I decided to use that as an excuse to make the switch to Ubuntu. I've been experimenting with it on my old laptop until I got my SSD replaced under warranty. Now I have my SSD back and want to install Ubuntu on my desktop machine. I used UNetbootin to make a bootable flash drive. I then I went into my BIOS and made sure USB loaded before the hard drive. However, when I try to load it I get an error that says: Loading operating system ... boot error I know the flash drive works because if I reboot my laptop or my other Windows PC with the flash drive and it loads into Ubuntu...just when I try to do it in the PC with no OS currently on the drive.

    I am looking for a simple way to install a mail server on my Ubuntu server. I would like to be able to receive and send emails though a webmail (e.g. roundcube). I have a domain name. The web server already works without any problem. When I googled "simple method to install mail server on Ubuntu", I arrive on blogs with literally hundreds of steps to install a mail server: A Mailserver on Ubuntu 12.04: Postfix, Dovecot, MySQL Creating a Mail Server on Ubuntu Postfix But, for sure I will make a mistake, if I follow those tutorials, and it will be very very time consuming. Most of the steps look very easy to automate, though. I've try several install methods: sudo apt-get install dovecot-postfix sudo tasksel install mail-server But from there, I have no idea how to add email accounts, and test if it actually works. Do you know if there is an automated way to install a mail server?

    Ubuntu Maverick 10.10 is displaying the desktop okay (though limited to 1600x1200) after my having installed my new HD 6970 card, so I'm now trying to install the proprietary driver (I understand the open source one requires a more recent kernel than that in Maverick). I've tried running the command with and without sudo.   • Ubuntu CD Boots to Black Screen

    I have a new Asus N76 Notebook and just downloaded the lastest ubuntu 12.10 desktop CD (x64). When I boot from the CD, I get to the selection asking to try or install Ubuntu (the text screen not the one with the Ubuntu logo). When I select one of these options, I get only a black screen. I have tried nomodeset, acpi=off but it does not change anything. I also tried booting a CD and an USB stick (same result). I have no idea what to try next. I have installed Ubuntu on several computers yet, never had this problem. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Thomas

    Due to some legacy 32 bit libraries being used in postgresql functions I need to get a 32 bit install of Postgresql on a 64 bit native system. Or has anyone installed 32 bit postgres on 64 bit? Any help appreciated.

    I'm installing Ubuntu 10.10 32-bit version on an HP Envy 15. I get the same problem these people have here: "unable to find a medium containing a live file system" error when installing but the question was never resolved. I spent so long researching and got so frustrated that I took my computer down to a shop and asked them to install it for me. It took them a while but they managed to get it installed. The reason for this error they had said was because Ubuntu didn't have the USB 3.0 drivers it needed to install properly. I'm reinstalling Ubuntu yet again and I've run into the same issue so my question is: does anyone know.. a) Where to get these USB 3.0 drivers? b) How to get them installed when installing the Ubuntu OS?     I live in Tanzania Africa and have been promoting Ubuntu for use by NGOs, Schools, and Friends. So far I've got a lot of positive feedback, but do have one huge problem. Internet here is both slow and very costly (up to $1,200 per month) So what I am looking for is a current release of Ubuntu which includes all the updates and popular applications already on it like; Gimp, VLC, Ubuntu Restricted files, Scribus, Inkscape, VirtualBox, Chrome, Audacity, Compiz, Blender, Ubuntu Tweak, Gnucash, Skype, etc... Basically all the 4 - 5 star applications. Does a hybrid DVD exist? I found links to one called Ubuntu Install Box 11.04, but not sure if they are truly legitimate.     I'm encountering a long pause during unattended (preseeded) install of precise server via pxe. The install eventually works, but appears to just sit there for 20 or 30 minutes after it authenticates the mirror. There is nothing in the logs during this time, even with full debug.   • Installing on a mac without a CD burner or USB boot

    I am new to Ubuntu, i installed it in an old PC and now it works GREAT!!! My Macbook pro has a glitch and refuses to run Mac OS X, so i installed Windows, and i really want Ubuntu since Windows is not for me. Here's the problem(s) my drive only READS DVDs, if i put a blank in it, it will ignore it and my mac has the updated EFI, so no booting from a USB connected device! I also tried Wubi, but then i cant make it a FULL partition and get rid of windows!!! Thank you!
