  If I apply world_to_camera, perspective and camera_to_screen to my mesh, everything is okay. But if I premultiply given matrices (i.e. transform = world_to_camera * perpective * camera_to_screen) before applying, then it seems like only perspective has effect. If it is important... My 3d framework was written from scratch (test project for job interview). But it works flawlessly, or at least I think so. So, question. This is expected behaviour, or my implementation is wrong?

• "A good programmer can be as 10+ times more productive than a mediocre one"

  I had read an interview with a great programmer (it is not in English) and in it he said that "a great programmer can be as 100 times as good as a mediocre one" giving reason for why good programmers are very well paid and why programming companies give many facilities for their employees. The idea was that there is a very large demand for good programmers, because of the above reason and that's why companies pay very much to bring them. Do you agree with this statement? Do you know any objective facts that could support it? Edit: The question has nothing to do with experience; if you talk about one great programmer with 1 year experience then s/he should be 10 times more productive than a mediocre programmer with 1 year experience. I agree that from certain experience years onwards, things start to dissipate but that's not the purpose of the question.

  I was recently on a job interview and I was given a task to write simple method in C# to calculate when the trains meet. The code was simple mathematical equation. What I did was that I checked all the parameters on the beginning of the method to make sure, that the code will not fail. My question is: Is it better to check the parameters, or use try/catch? Here are my thoughts: Try/catch is shorter Try/catch will work always even if you forget about some condition Catch is slow in .NET Testing parameters is probably cleaner code (Exceptions should be exceptional) Testing parameters gives you more control over return values I would prefer testing parameters in methods longer than +/- 10 lines, but what do you think about using try/catch in simple methods just like this – i.e. return (a*b)/(c+d); There are many similar questions on stackexchnage, but I am interested in this particular scenario.

• Should i expect real world questions from interviewing agency ? [closed]

  I started coding almost a year ago. By "coding" I mean HTML(5), CSS(3), and only few times I implemented some AJAX and JavaScript. I am interviewing for a position that expects me to know HTML, CSS, JS, JQuery, and AJAX. I feel confident in HTML5/CSS3 subject area and somewhat ok with javascript. Will agency expect from me to write some code during the interview? I do have a live website as an example which contains snapshots of past projects which were sent to them. I am little nervous, so any tips or recommendations are welcome.

  Have this question from interview: Web Service function given x static HashMap map (singleton created) if (!map.containsKey(x)) { perform some function to retrieve result y map.put(x, y); } return y; The interviewer asked general question such as what is wrong with this distributed cache implementation. Then asked how to improve on it, due to distributed servers will have different cached key pairs in the map. There are simple mistakes to be pointed out about synchronization and key object, but what really startled me was that this guy thinks that moving to database implementation solves the problem that different servers will have different map content, i.e., the situation when value x is not on server A but on server B, therefore redundant data has to be retrieved in server A. Does his thinking make any sense? (As I understand this is the basic cons for distributed cache against database model, seems he does not understand it at all) What is the typical solution for the cache growth issue (weak reference?) and sync issue (do not know which server has the key already cached - use load balancing)?   I have been messing around with web development and programming in general for a couple of years now, working in web development agencies and the like. I have now decided that I want to move to more general programming and do this permanently and as a career and have set myself a goal of 1 year to learn as much as I can before I go out and find a 'proper' job as a programmer. Do any programmers out there have any opinions on how this time should be split and what the most important things to focus on will be over the year. The languages I will be focusing my learning on are: c, php, python and go - all of which i have varying degrees of familiarity with. The ultimate goal here is to gain as good as foundation as possible and to be of a good enough level to interview successfully for a decent company.

• How to get some experience in a new programming language? [closed]

  I have commercial experience in one programming language but I want to make a switch to another programming language (C#/.NET). I am in full-time employment so whenever I get free time I read relevant books or use online resources available. My questions are - How do I develop experience in the new language of interest (without leaving current job)? The best way I find to learn is to develop a project - How do you / Where can you find new test projects which you can refer to in the interview (these don't have to be real projects but perhaps I can take the code with me in a usb stick as proof). Do you have any tips/advice for me regarding best way to switch career? My lanugauge of choice is C# - so c# related answers will be appreciated.

  This question was asked in an Electronic Arts interview: There are 3 threads. The first thread prints the numbers 1 to 10. The second thread prints the numbers 11 to 20. The third thread prints the numbers from from 21 to 30. Now, all three threads are running. • How does having assets saved on a secondary domain(s) reduce the load time of the website?

  I went for an interview yesterday where I was asked this question: "How does having assets (images/videos) stored on a secondary domain (assets.example.com) reduce the load time of example.com?" To that I answered that by having the code "call" those assets from a secondary website it reduces the traffic that is coming to the main domain and therefore only applying bandwidth to the main domain vs having to also serve bandwidth to request assets. Is that correct? Also, If i am correct, would you say it makes sense to start new websites with this in mind or do you prefer having it done after large traffic rates are achieved?

• Why would cat6 connectors not work with cat5e patch cable?

  I had a naff batch of cat5 connectors (the latching mechanism didn't work) so decided to order in some cat6 connectors in preparation for the inevitable upgrade. My existing reel of for making patch cables is cat5e utp stranded. I made up a few cables and tested them- none of them worked. I recrimped and still nothing. When i check them with a multi-meter not all pins are connected. This reel has always worked with the previous cat5 connectors so I tested the cat6 connectors on a reel of solid cat5e cable and they work fine. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Or what might be at fault? (cable/connectors) and how I can diagnose? Thanks Lee

• Windows 2008 R2 Server Core Disk Space Requirements/Recomendations

  I'm in the preparation stage to roll out a few Windows 2008 R2 Server Core in my VMware ESX environment. In looking over the documentation it looks like Server Core can operate in a little as 6.5 GB of hard drive space. Less disk space required. A Server Core installation requires only about 3.5 gigabytes (GB) of disk space to install and approximately 3 GB for operations after the installation. I am curious as to anyone’s real world experience and recommendations with regard to this requirement. Is it realistic? A little bit about our environment: Less than 25 users, and around 75 computers/servers in our current AD system. These systems will be responsible for normal AD operations and print servers for 5 printers - nothing to big here.

• SharePoint / SQL Server "out of memory" error

  After months of preparation, we launched a new SharePoint intranet portal today. Immediately, some users began getting a "server out of memory" error when they tried to log in. The SharePoint server appeared to be fine, but the SQL Server was reporting 100% memory use. (It has 4 GB.) We rebooted the server and have not had further memory problems, though memory usage is hovering around 60% or above. I'm not convinced that we have solved the problem; I suspect it may return Monday morning when the whole staff tries to log in again. I'm not a database guy, and I'm stumped about how to troubleshoot this. Do we need more memory, or is there somewhere I should look to reduce memory usage?

• Configuring BitLocker on existing Windows Server 2008

  On our file server, we want to enable BitLocker so that we can encrypt a single drive and I know that we have to also encrypt the drive the system is installed on. In my tests with VMs, I have to create a partition on the same disk as Windows is installed either before I install Windows or after (I can use the BitLocker Drive Preparation Tool). This tool shrinks the C: drive to make way for a 1.5GB partition. I'm a little concerned about doing this with a live system so wanted to see if it was possible to get BitLocker to use a partition on another drive?
