• How do I 'see' an external USB drive connected directly to my Broadband Router?

  This is a very frustrating problem! I have a small home network with several dual boot Ubuntu / Windows computers. I have recently upgraded my Broadband connection and the new router permits the direct attachment of an external USB drive which can back up all of the household's computers. There are no problems when booted under Windows, and there were no problems with older versions of UBUNTU, but since upgrading to 11.10 I can no longer "see" the drive. I used to find it via Network / Windows Network / Home / name of Router, but under 11.10 the same method yields an error message Unable to mount location Failed to retrieve share list from server. Can anyone help please? • "Loading operating system... boot error" when booting from live CD

  I'm having a problem installing Ubuntu 12.10 on a new drive. I was running Windows7 on my SSD but when the drive crashed, I decided to use that as an excuse to make the switch to Ubuntu. I've been experimenting with it on my old laptop until I got my SSD replaced under warranty. Now I have my SSD back and want to install Ubuntu on my desktop machine. I used UNetbootin to make a bootable flash drive. I then I went into my BIOS and made sure USB loaded before the hard drive. However, when I try to load it I get an error that says: Loading operating system ... boot error I know the flash drive works because if I reboot my laptop or my other Windows PC with the flash drive and it loads into Ubuntu...just when I try to do it in the PC with no OS currently on the drive.

• Trying to find USB device on iphone with IOKit.framework

  Hi all, i'm working on a project were i need the usb port to communicate with a external device. I have been looking for exemple on the net (Apple and /developer/IOKit/usb exemple) and trying some other but i can't even find the device. In my code i blocking at the place where the fucntion looks for a next iterator (pointer in fact) with the function getNextIterator but never returns a good value so the code is blocking. By the way i am using toolchain and added IOKit.framework in my project. All i what right now is the communicate or do like a ping to someone on the USB bus!! I blocking in the 'FindDevice'....i can't manage to enter in the while because the variable usbDevice is always = to 0....i have tested my code in a small mac program and it works... • weird problem with load () or live () !!

  I load a page with load () and then I create dinamically a tag. Then I use live() to bind a click event and fires a function. At the end a call unload (). The problem is that when I load the same page again ( without refresh ) when on click the function will be fired twice. If I exit again (again with unload ()) and load the page again on click will fire 3 times and so on .... A sample of my code is: $('#tab').click(function() { $('#formWrap').load('newPage.php'); }); $('div').after('<p class="ctr" ></p>'); $('p.ctr').live('click', function(e) { if($(e.target).is('[k=lf]')) { console.log ('one'); delete ($this); } else if .... }); function delete () { $.post( 'update.php', data); } I have other $.post inside on this page and also on the above live fnc and all work well. The above one also works but like I said on the second load will fire twice and the 3 times and so on ... The weird part for me is that if replece the console with console.log ('two'); save the page and load the page without refresh it will fire on a different rows - one two - if I unload the page replace the console with console.log ('three'); and load again will fire one two and three. I try to use: $.ajax({ url: 'updateDB.php', data: data, type: 'POST', cache:false }); $.ajaxSetup ({ cache: false }); header("Cache-Control: no-cache"); none of this it's working. And I have this problem only on this fnc. What do you think, it could be the reason, it remembers it remembers the previous action and it fires again?

• How to use jQuery .live() with ajax

  Currently I am using John Resig's LiveQuery plugin/function - http://ejohn.org/blog/jquery-livesearch/ - to allow users to sort through a long unordered-list of list-items. The code is as follows: $('input#q').liveUpdate('ul#teams').focus(); The issue arises when I use ajaxified tabs to sort the lists. Essentially I use ajax to pull in different lists and the liveUpdate() function doesn't have access to the new li's. I assume I would need to bind this using the .live() function - http://api.jquery.com/live/. But I am unclear how to bind this to an ajax event, I've only used the "click" event. How would I bind the new liveUpdate() to the newly loaded list-items? EDIT: The ajax tabs is run through the wordpress ajax api so the code is fairly complex, but simplified it is something like this: $('div.item-list-tabs').click( function(event) { var target = $(event.target).parent(); var data = {action, scope, pagination}; // Passes action to WP that loads my tab data $.post( ajaxurl, data, function(response) { $(target).fadeOut( 100, function() { $(this).html(response); $(this).fadeIn(100); }); }); return false; }); This is simplified for the sake of this conversation, but basically once the $.post loads the response in place .liveUpdate() doesn't have access to it. • live.com setting can't be changed

  I'm on mail.live.com where, in the upper left corner it says "Windows Live™" and to the right of that it says "Hotmail([number])" "Messenger" "SkyDrive" "|" "MSN." Directly under the "Windows Live™," there is a square, bluish/gray avatar (with a generic, rotund peop with a head and trunk and arms). To the right of that there is a field (with a subtle, barely perceptible speech bubble-like arrow emanating from the avatar). But there's a word inside that field that I cannot get rid of. Coincidentally I think it's the same word I used as a search term a while back, having meant to put the search term in the "Search email and more" bing field on the other side of the screen. (Even that would have been by mistake because I had been aiming for the e-mail search field.) But it remains in the field connected to the avatar--and moreover the field is editable to the limited extent that a cursor can be placed into the field with a mouse click; the word just can't be deleted. I don't know if the avatar should be there either, but I'd rather have just simply that than the word next to it continuously there for time immemorial. If I click into the field hoping to delete the word, I'm confronted with options along the bottom of the same field (now expanded by my mouse click): "Add: Photo Link Document," and a button that says "Share" and an [X] to reduce the field back to its default state--which still contains the word I'm trying to delete.

• Where is my problem? The P6X58D Premium Mobo, Windows 7, or other?

  I was having problems with my USB devices for an hour last night, and I am unable to determine the root cause of the problem. The two symptoms are: At seemingly random times (not consistently spaced by time or caused by any detectable event) my USB devices become "detached". Windows will play the USB disconnect sound and then the reconnect sound. The devices disconnected and then reconnected. My USB Keyboard will "stick" on one key for several seconds before processing any other keystroke made. The mouse also does not respond to clicks. I do not lose mouse movement or USB device connectivity. And after a moment of this several beeps will be emitted from the speakers. Hardware Specs: GFX Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 470 Superclocked 1280MB DDR5 PCIe Motherboard: ASUS P6X58D Premium Intel X58 Socket LGA1366 MB Processor: Intel Core i7-920 2.66Ghz 8M LGA1366 CPU Memory: Corsair Dominator 6144MB PC12800 DDR3 Storage: Hitachi 1TB Serial ATA HD 1600MHz 7200/32MB/SATA-3G Cooling: Corsair Hydro H50 CPU Liquid Cooler Case: Corsair Obsidian 800D Full Tower Case Power Supply: Corsair HX1000W 1000W Modular Power Supply Steps I have taken to narrow down the problem: Restarted the computer. - No change Changed USB port the Hub was connected to on the CPU. - No change Removed all devices from USB Hub and connected directly to CPU. - No change Used a different USB keyboard both in USB Hub and directly to CPU. - No change Disconnected and reconnected all cables. - No change Disassembled the Tower and determined if the USB headers were firmly connected. - No change Checked device manager for errors. Checked all USB devices. - Nothing flagged After an hour of frustration trying to narrow down the problem it appeared to disappear. But I am torn between it being a Mobo problem or an OS problem. Is there anything else I can do to narrow down the problem before a reformat and then eventually exchanging the Mobo?

• How to grub-install ignore specific drive/partition

  Is it possible to use grub-install or update-grub to just search on specific disk/partition? (or ignore specific)? I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my hard drive, but i wished to do some testing on it without harming current installation, so I "rsynced" root partition (the only) to the USB partition (ext4). I did fix /etc/fstab on USB partition. The problem is that when I do grub-install /dev/sdb (usb) GRUB seems to confuse when UUIDs. Whatever I chose in GRUB it always boot from disk. In grub in edit mode I see that in two "UUID" lines are not the same. If I retype UUID from "first" to second "line" it boots from USB (as I wish). Is there any other way than fixing /boot/grub/grub.cfg each time? EDIT: the GRUB generated good when I booted from USB and grub-install from there, but question is still if it's possible ignore drives

• Ubuntu won't stay installed

  I recently experienced OS problems with Windows 8 so I decided to wipe my hard drive and install Ubuntu using a usb boot. I am able to "Try Ubuntu" or choose to install instantly, however, after installation it asks me to restart my computer but when I do this I receive the same installation options I originally had, "Try Ubuntu", "Install", "OEM Install", "Repair Disk". I initially thought this was the result of leaving the boot usb in, so I tried reinstalling, but now I just receive a message saying "No boot disc or boot disc failed". This happens with any type of install I do, I've tried clearing the hard drive multiple times, making a new boot usb, but nothing seems to help. I've tried reinstalling windows, but I encounter the same problem, without the usb I get an error. I have an Acer Aspire M3470, I cleared my hard drive and attempting to install via usb boot. I have a weird BIOS menu probably because of AMD but it's been hard to find information regarding my particular BIOS menu. HERE is an image of my BIOS menu

• Error creating an .img file from an .ISO (MD5 verified)

  I was following the instructions on this website to create a bootable USB flash drive on a Mac: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/create-a-usb-stick-on-mac-osx The instruction: hdiutil convert -format UDRW -o ~/path/to/target.img ~/path/to/ubuntu.iso does not create a valid file that the disk utility can copy to the USB drive, making installation on a USB drive useless. I've been repeating these instructions for days with no luck. The only thing that does not work is the .ISO to .IMG conversion. Is there a way to download Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-but Desktop in a .IMG file already? Unfortunately, my install notebook does not have an optical drive so USB is the only way. Thanks for your help!

• What's the performance on USB docking stations, and can they be used when laptop is closed?

  I'm looking into a docking station for a Dell Studio laptop. I don't see the traditional docking stations I'm familiar with - the kind (for a Dell Latitude, for example) where you sit the laptop on top of a long row of pins. Instead, I'm seeing a lot of USB docking stations. When I close my laptop, I want it to go into sleep mode. If I then connect a USB docking station to the laptop while it's closed, will it wake up? What's the performance on USB 2.0 docking stations with a new Dell Studio? Can all of the video and internet traffic really go through a USB 2.0 connection while still providing the best video frame rates and internet speeds? When you undock, I assume you'd have to use the "Safely Remove Hardware" feature in Windows. Will that successfully 'remove' everything attached to the docking station - external drives, thumb drives, etc?

  Greetings, I'll start with some background information so you know what I'm trying to accomplish and then get to my question. I work at a Television station in the US and we are working on setting up an online DVR/Podcast system for all of our newscasts. So basically we would be recording every newscast in HD, encoding it to flv/h.264 for viewing in a browser on flash compatible and iphone/ipad devices, eventually migrating to WebM when it's browser compliant. This task is theoretically pretty simple as it all it involves is a TV tuner device and a program like VLC, MythTV or whatever to schedule and dump it to a file, encode it with VLC/FFMPEG and push it to the streaming server. Now to the hardware, in order to accomplish that task, should I use an internal PCI tuner or a USB 2.0 tuner? Is there a difference? The bus speeds of both are not too far apart, and is the bus speed really relevant in this case? Does it matter if the device has a hardware encoder or a software encoder? On many sites the USB was recommended for ease of set up and use, but would it overly task a processor, or is that not a concern as long as it's a decent PC (at least duo core, 6gb ram). What's the difference between the stick USB and the Box USBs? To my understanding analog is basically gone in the US, so we would want a hybrid or combo tuner correct? How do those differ from DVB? Are there any other features or concepts which I am missing which may influence the recommended product. It would be ideal if the device which could work in both Linux and a Windows environment, to my knowledge most Hauppauge are? It came with an extention cord and when i had it a few feet away i was able to (usually) get full speed I had a wifi card in a tower in the past and just about all laptops have it built in How do i use a USB wifi adapter properly? The first device didnt come with an extention cord and made no mention of bringing it away from the computer. When someone else tested the device he said he was getting full speed while it was plugged into his tower so i was pretty surpised. How do i use USB wifi devices properly?

• USB enumeration failure in ColdFire MCF52259

  Anybody with programming experience on the ColdFire line, please help! I'm using the CMX USB-Lite stack with the ColdFire MCF52259. For some reason, USB enumeration fails at the very first step, as soon as I enable the DP pull-up resistor. This is what I'm doing :- INT_ENB, OTG_INT_EN, ERR_ENB are set to 0x0 INT_STAT, OTG_INT_STAT and ERR_STAT are set to 0xff (This should clear all interrupts) In the Interrupt Status Register, bits 0 (Mask All) and 53 are made 0, all others are 1. TOK_DNE, USB_RST and STALL interrupts are enabled in INT_ENB. BDT base address is set. MCF_USB_CTL holds 0x1 PROBLEM: After the host issues the first reset (at which point I enable Control endpoint 0), instead of the expected Get Descriptor request I'm getting an endless series of resets. At least, that's what it looks like, because the TOK_DNE interrupt never triggers. Is there anything I'm doing wrong?

I thought it would have a virtual COM port driver but instead, it uses HID drivers.   Not exactly a programming question, but close. I'll try my luck anyway. The keyboard wedge barcode scanner inserts the translation device between the reader and the keyboard. Data sent through a wedge appears as if it was typed into the computer, while the keyboard itself remains fully functional. Because a computer using a keyboard wedge can't tell the difference between data that is entered by a scanning device, or data that is entered by keyboard typing, a wedge can be used to easily add barcode reading capability to an existing computer without modifying software applications. I'd like to know if all USB interface barcode scanners automatically translate digital signals from a barcode reader into keyboard strokes for a applications just like wedge or is USB different from wedge?   Hi, I have a little problem which I could not solve. I really hope someone can help me with that. I wanted to resize the live camera view and place it in the center, using the following code below: picker.cameraViewTransform = CGAffineTransformScale(picker.cameraViewTransform, 0.5, 0.56206); picker.cameraViewTransform = CGAffineTransformTranslate(picker.cameraViewTransform, 80, 120); But all I got was a scaled 1/2 sized view on the top left of the screen. It seems as though "CGAffineTransformTranslate" does nothing at all. The translation didn't work even when I used: picker.cameraViewTransform = CGAffineTransformMake(1, 0, 0, 1, 80, 120); The translation portion seems to have no effect on the live camera view.   I am working on an Embedded Windows CE project and am interested in accessing a USB HID device through one of its USB Host ports. All I really need to read are the raw HID spec packets. On a windows computer, I have a working program using hid.dll, but as far as I have researched, there is no equivalent on CE. I know there is the usbhid.dll, but I'm not sure if it is applicable for this situation. I would prefer not to write a kernel level driver, as I would like to do my coding in c#. Has anyone had experience consuming an HID device on Windows CE?

• iPhone Live Video Stream Media Player

  I'm hoping to make an app that streams live video that has a view placed on top with labels and a button on it. From my research and testing of the http video streaming feature (available since iPhone 3.0 OS), it seems that you create a webview that points to the index html that contains the converted video stream, and this displays as a quicktime video in the app. This means that I don't have control over the Media Player that is opened. Does anyone know how you can control this? I know that the Apple's MoviePlayer sample code shows you how to place views on top of a MediaPlayer video, but how can this be done with a http live stream? Thanks in advance.
