  • Using Excel VBA to send emails. Problem with attachments becoming embedded by accident.

    Hi, I am having an issue with an Excel macro I wrote that is used by several users within my company. It is used to send numerous emails daily with attachments that are also Excel workbooks. The issue is that sometimes, instead of the file simply being attached as it should be, it becomes an embedded object. This embedded object is openable by users on the email within the company (after clicking through the "YOu are about to activate an embedded object that may contain viruses or be otherwise harmful to your computer. It is important to be certain that it is from a trustworthy source. Do you want to continue?"), but those outside of the company do not see it at all. The email appears to have no attachment at all. Curiously, this appears to happen randomly, and only on some computers. So if the list has 15 email lists and attachments, it seems to happen randomly to anywhere between 0 and 15 of the emails. To be clear, my objective is to send emails with regular attachments. Running Excel 2003, Outlook 2003, and Windows XP. See code below. Please help!     I have completed my graduation in Computer engineering. We had some basic electronics courses in Digital signal processing, Information theory etc but my primary field is Programming. However, i was looking to get into Embedded sytems programming with NO knowledge of how it is done. However, i am very keen on going into this field. My questions : what are the languages used to program embedded system programs ? Will i be able to learn without having any basics in electronics ? any other prerequisites that i should know ?

  • Why is Read-Modify-Write necessary for registers on embedded systems?

    I was reading http://embeddedgurus.com/embedded-bridge/2010/03/different-bit-types-in-different-registers/, which said: With read/write bits, firmware sets and clears bits when needed. It typically first reads the register, modifies the desired bit, then writes the modified value back out and I have run into that consrtuct while maintaining some production code coded by old salt embedded guys here. I don't understand why this is necessary. When I want to set/clear a bit, I always just or/nand with a bitmask. To my mind, this solves any threadsafe problems, since I assume setting (either by assignment or oring with a mask) a register only takes one cycle. On the other hand, if you first read the register, then modify, then write, an interrupt happening between the read and write may result in writing an old value to the register. So why read-modify-write? Is it still necessary?

  • Pass in the object a java class is embedded in as a parameter.

    I'm building an android application, which has a list view, and in the list view, a click listener, containing an onItemClick method. So I have something like this: public class myList extends ListActivity { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { getListView().setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() { public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) { /* Do something*/ } } } Normally, this works fine. However, many times I find myself needing too preform an application using the outer class as a context. thusfar, I've used: parent.getContext(); to do this, but I would like to know, is that a bad idea? I can't really call: super because it's not really a subclass, just an embedded one. So is there any better way, or is that considered cosure? Also, if it is the right way, what should I do if the embedded method doesn't have a parameter to get the outside class? Thank you.

  • Connecting to IPv6 hosts when mobile and on a Surface?

    Specifically, at my usual location, I have an IPv6 network which connects to the Internet via a static tunnel set up to Hurricane Electric's tunnel broker ( http://www.tunnelbroker.net/ ). This works essentially perfectly, allowing inbound and outbound connectivity. Now, however, I need to connect back to host(s) on that network over IPv6 from mobile tablet(s); meaning the conditions are such that there is no guarantee or even likelihood of native IPv6 support where it happens to be at any given time, and the IPv4 address of the tablet will change on a fairly regular basis. The native Teredo support, as configured by default, functions well enough to let me ping my target hosts, but appears to have neither the reliability nor the throughput to support anything else; I have been unable to make any actual connections (trying a number of TCP-based protocols) using it. I had considered setting up an independent tunnel for the tablet(s), and using scripts to update the client endpoint IP address when it changes, but since both (a) many of the locations will be behind NAT devices over which I have no control, and (b) the option over which I do have control is an AT&T Unite hotspot which does not offer protocol 41 forwarding or respond to ICMP on its public address, this approach does not seem viable. I am additionally constrained as the mobile tablet(s) in question are Surface RTs, and as such are incapable of running, for example, AICCU client software. What is my best option to pursue to obtain IPv6 connectivity in this scenario?

  • What mobile phones are viable for a "nerdy" person? [closed]

    This community wiki is for determining a list of good mobile phone choices if you are "nerdy" (definition follows.) As a point of reference, the almost two years old N95 8GB will be used. Mostly because that's what I can most relate to since I've had it since it came out. Today, iPhone and other modern mobile phones really out-shine it in usability and interface. However, it still does everything I want it to do (and here's the definition of "nerdy"; modify as needed): Syncs contacts, calendar, tasks and mail in the background Can run multiple installable applications in the background (Google Maps with Latitude, for example) Good amount of space for music etc. Lets you develop your own little toy applications (Python; not to mention it can also run an Apache server with a public URL!) Tethering! Supports Flash (maybe not very important, but it has its uses) Has a manufacturer that believes in the nerdiness! (The people at Nokia Labs make lots of cool stuff and share early versions with the community and are generally open) A high resolution screen (at least 320x240) Special hardware features such as an accelerometer and GPS What's missing from the N95 8GB but still qualifies as good, "nerdy", qualities: 7.2 Mbit/s (or faster) internet through HSDPA or HSPA+. A good web browser that can do most of the stuff a desktop browser can (especially render sites properly and run JavaScript correctly) Touch (especially multi-touch) More special hardware features such as a compass Intuitive and fluent user interface (Shiny stuff) Ability to configure it to trust root certificates of my own choice A processor fast enough to run Quake 3! =)

  • Javascript callback on blackberry

    I'm working on a mobile project, and I have a script that is dynamically generated on the backend and then appended to the document (the html page). Desktop browsers seem to append the script correctly and call any functions in the script, however, I can't get this to happen on Blackberry phones. I know that the script is being appending because I can alert it after I append it. I just can get it to call the function in the script. For example, if I have code like this: var scriptText = document.createElement('script'); scriptText.type = 'text/javascript'; scriptText.id = 'thisScript'; scriptText.innerHTML = 'alert("hello");'; document.getElementById('idName').appendChild(scriptText); alert(document.getElementById('thisScript')); //Alerts the script element. This will alert 'hello' in desktop browsers and even the iPhone/iPodTouch, but not BlackBerry's. Anyone have any idea why? Or if there's a fix/hack?

    Hi there, I have very easy question, but I simply have any idea of the answer. I have developed a small mobile-application using java, for my nokia. The problem is that when installed on my samsung the application simply crashed. Then I tried on my other nokia but different model, and I didn't got the normal behavior. So my question is, does anyone have any idea how companies that develop mobiles applications/games test their software. Does they have to have all models for all mobiles phones??

    Kurt Kennett from Microsoft has offered up a handy new tool. This tool is useful for creating a boot disk for x86 Windows CE systems that use the BIOSLoader. This is especially useful for creating disks with formats other than FAT16, which are fairly easy to create. I am letting you know about this new tool, but I have to be honest in telling you that I haven’t used it myself because it is for Windows Vista and Windows 7 – which I don’t have available right now. But you can bet that I will be setting up a virtual machine to give it a try. Here is what Kurt has to say about the tool: Download the DiskPrep Tool  DiskPrep can prepare any hard disk that can be attached to your development PC so that it can boot your X86-based Windows CE OS Design. USB disks (including disk "keys"), Compact Flash Cards, and SD cards all work if your system bios can boot from that type of media. FAT16, FAT32, and exFAT all supported. DOS is not used - the program prepares the bios loader on the disk and only uses that. If you use Windows Vista or Windows 7, you can use VHD files for VirtualPC.     So I've thought of creating a web application in either Lisp or another functional language and was thinking of embedding the web server into the application (have my application handle the HTTP requests). I don't see any issues with that, however, I'm new to creating web applications (and in the grand scheme of things, programming as well). Is there any drawbacks to handling HTTP requests within your program instead of using a web server? Are there any benefits?

  • Best option for PDF viewer embedded in web app

    I have a web app that needs to be able to display a PDF. It needs to allow the user to page through the PDF, and my application needs to be able to know which page is currently being viewed, because other aspects of the web app will change based on the current page. Ideally it would not be dependent on the client having Adobe Reader but I could probably support that dependency. What are my best options for this? My application stack consists of ASP.NET 4 along with optionally Silverlight 5. Also, I could use something that is client-side based as well using JavaScript / HTML if such a thing exists. I found ComponentOne's offering for this and that seems like the leading candidate at this point, but I want to know if there are other options I should consider. Edit: Per Fosco's comment, converting the PDF to another format (such as HTML) might be an option, as long as I could tie back parts of the converted document to the original PDF page #s. Another note: this has to run entirely on our servers. It would not be acceptable to use a third-party service to view the PDFs.
