  • How to report a crash bug with nothing on screen

    - by winniemiel05
I would like to report an installation bug, but I can't launch ubuntu-bug : On my tablet (LDLC Janus, an Intel based tablet without OS installed by default), I have a problem when I install Ubuntu 11.04 or 11.10. Once the installation is finished, when I reboot, there is ABSOLUTELY nothing on screen, but Ubuntu boot correctly anyway : I choosed auto-login mode and I can hear the login sound. Even if I Ctrl+Alt+F1 or F2... there is nothing. But the livecd works fine (even touch screen even if without multi touch). I tried to install 10.10 it works, but as soon as I upgrade the same problem occure. i installed Fedora 15 and then Fedora 16 (because of other problems) and no problems with them. I would like to report this bug on launchpad but I don't know how to do to give devs logs files and other useful files which could help debug. Thanks a lot for your answer, I would really prefer using my tablet with Ubuntu (I miss U1, USC, Unity)

  • Need to sanity-check my .htaccess, especially Limit GET POST line for Google repellent

    - by jose
I need a sanity check on this .htaccess (from a WordPress site) I inherited from a 5 month+ old site. What's the symptom? Google + Bing crawl, but don't index any of the pages. Let me be clear: I'm not mad about "not ranking high." I think something is (accidentally) rejecting search engine indexing. I am not an expert on .htaccess, but one part especially looked funny, the Limit GET POST line. Is it not weird to have both Allow and Deny all, with no parameters? Also, I've ruled out robots.txt, but if I were you I'd want to see it, so here it is: User-agent: * Crawl-delay: 30 And here's the more suspect .htaccess: # temp redirect wordpress content feeds to feedburner <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} !FeedBurner [NC] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} !FeedValidator [NC] RewriteRule ^feed/?([_0-9a-z-]+)?/?$ http://feeds.feedburner.com/anonymousblog [R=302,NC,L] </IfModule> # temp redirect wordpress comment feeds to feedburner <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} !FeedBurner [NC] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} !FeedValidator [NC] RewriteRule ^comments/feed/?([_0-9a-z-]+)?/?$ http://feeds.feedburner.com/anonymous_comments [R=302,NC,L] </IfModule> <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.php [L] </IfModule> IndexIgnore .htaccess */.??* *~ *# */HEADER* */README* */_vti* <Limit GET POST> order deny, allow deny from all allow from all </Limit> <Limit PUT DELETE> order deny, allow deny from all </Limit> php_value memory_limit 32M Adding header by request: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow" /> <meta name="description" content="buncha junk i've deleted." /> <meta name="keywords" content="keywords i've deleted" /> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width" />

  • libgdx ActorGestureListener.pan() parameters not moving actor in smooth line

    - by Roar Skullestad
I override the pan method in ActorGestureListener to implement dragging actors in libgdx (scene2d). When I move individual pieces on a board they move smoothly, but when moving the whole board, the x and y coordinates that is sent to pan is "jumping", and in an increasingly amount the longer it is dragged. These are an example of the deltaY coordinates sent to pan when dragging smoothly downwards: 1.1156368 -0.13125038 -1.0500145 0.98439217 -1.0500202 0.91877174 -0.984396 0.9187679 -0.98439026 0.9187641 -0.13125038 This is how I move the camera: public void pan (InputEvent event, float x, float y, float deltaX, float deltaY) { cam.translate(-deltaX, -deltaY); I have been using both the delta values sent to pan and the real position values, but similar results. And since it is the coordinates that are wrong, it doesn't matter whether I move the board itself or the camera. What could the cause be for this and what is the solution? When I move camera only half the delta-values, it moves smoothly but only at half the speed of the mouse pointer: cam.translate(-deltaX / 2, -deltaY / 2); It seems like the moving of camera or board affects the mouse input coordinates. How can I drag at "mouse speed" and still get smooth movements? (This question was also posted on stackoverflow: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/20693020/libgdx-actorgesturelistener-pan-parameters-not-moving-actor-in-smooth-line)

  • Enabling multitouch on an acer 5742?

    - by Ben
I am trying to get multitouch to work on my touchpad. I am currently trying to run a script to get it to work. It is set to start on boot, saved as .run and has been made executable. here is the code: #!/bin/bash #enable multitouch sleep 10 xinput set-int-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" "Two-Finger Scrolling" 8 1 xinput set-int-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" "Synaptics Two-Finger Scrolling" 8 1 1 xinput set-int-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" "Synaptics Two-Finger Pressure" 32 10 xinput set-int-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" "Synaptics Two-Finger Width" 32 8 xinput set-int-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" "Synaptics Edge Scrolling" 8 0 0 0 xinput set-int-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" "Synaptics Jumpy Cursor Threshold" 32 110 synclient TapButton2=2 exit the commands make multi touch work if I enter them in the terminal, but the script itself does not work. any suggestions?

  • Making particle bounce off a line with friction

    - by Dlaor
So I'm making a game and I need a particle to bounce off a line. I've got this so far: public static Vector2f Reflect(this Vector2f vec, Vector2f axis) //vec is velocity { Vector2f result = vec - 2f * axis * axis.Dot(vec); return result; } Which works fine, but then I decided I wanted to be able to change the bounciness and friction of the bounce. I got bounciness down... public static Vector2f Reflect(this Vector2f vec, Vector2f axis, float bounciness) //Bounciness goes from 0 to 1, 0 being not bouncy and 1 being perfectly bouncy { var reflect = (1 + bounciness); //2f Vector2f result = vec - reflect * axis * axis.Dot(vec); return result; } But when I tried to add friction, everything went to hell and back... public static Vector2f Reflect(this Vector2f vec, Vector2f axis, float bounciness, float friction) //Does not work at all! { var reflect = (1 + bounciness); //2f Vector2f subtract = reflect * axis * axis.Dot(vec); Vector2f subtract2 = axis * axis.Dot(vec); Vector2f result = vec - subtract; result -= axis.PerpendicularLeft() * subtract2.Length() * friction; return result; } Any physics guys willing to help me out with this? (if you're not sure what I mean with the friction of a bounce see this: http://www.metanetsoftware.com/technique/diagrams/A-1_particle_collision.swf)

  • How to prevent a 404 Error when creating a subdomain and using www to access it?

    - by Chris
I have installed a multi-site installation of WordPress onto my domain. I then added the necessary code to the wp-config.php file and .htaccess as instructed by WordPress. I also installed a plugin called Quick Page/Post Redirect Plugin which allowed me to place a 301 redirect onto the main domain as I only want to use the sub domain and not the main domain. Then I also added the following line of code to the wp-config.php file to redirect the main domain define( 'NOBLOGREDIRECT', 'URL Redirect Address' ); The site works fine with a redirect on the main domain and my subdomain runs fine when you type in subdomain.example.com or http://subdomain.example.com. However when I enter www.subdomain.example.com or http://www.subdomain.example.com the following error message is returned: Not Found The requested URL / was not found on this server. Apache/2.4.9 (Unix) Server at www.subdomain.domain.com Port 80 Any help with this would be much appreciated.

  • Tales from the Trenches – Building a Real-World Silverlight Line of Business Application

    - by dwahlin
There's rarely a boring day working in the world of software development. Part of the fun associated with being a developer is that change is guaranteed and the more you learn about a particular technology the more you realize there's always a different or better way to perform a task. I've had the opportunity to work on several different real-world Silverlight Line of Business (LOB) applications over the past few years and wanted to put together a list of some of the key things I've learned as well as key problems I've encountered and resolved. There are several different topics I could cover related to "lessons learned" (some of them were more painful than others) but I'll keep it to 5 items for this post and cover additional lessons learned in the future. The topics discussed were put together for a TechEd talk: Pick a Pattern and Stick To It Data Binding and Nested Controls Notify Users of Successes (and failures) Get an Agent – A Service Agent Extend Existing Controls The first topic covered relates to architecture best practices and how the MVVM pattern can save you time in the long run. When I was first introduced to MVVM I thought it was a lot of work for very little payoff. I've since learned (the hard way in some cases) that my initial impressions were dead wrong and that my criticisms of the pattern were generally caused by doing things the wrong way. In addition to MVVM pros the slides and sample app below also jump into data binding tricks in nested control scenarios and discuss how animations and media can be used to enhance LOB applications in subtle ways. Finally, a discussion of creating a re-usable service agent to interact with backend services is discussed as well as how existing controls make good candidates for customization. I tried to keep the samples simple while still covering the topics as much as possible so if you’re new to Silverlight you should definitely be able to follow along with a little study and practice. I’d recommend starting with the SilverlightDemos.View project, moving to the SilverlightDemos.ViewModels project and then going to the SilverlightDemos.ServiceAgents project. All of the backend “Model” code can be found in the SilverlightDemos.Web project. Custom controls used in the app can be found in the SivlerlightDemos.Controls project.   Sample Code and Slides

  • PERT shows relationships between defined tasks in a project without taking into consideration a time line

The program evaluation and review technique (PERT) shows relationships between defined tasks in a project without taking into consideration a time line. This chart is an excellent way to identify dependencies of tasks based on other tasks. This chart allows project managers to identify the critical path of a project to minimize any time delays to the project. According to Craig Borysowich in his article “Pros & Cons of the PERT/CPM Method stated the following advantages and disadvantages: “PERT/CPM has the following advantages: A PERT/CPM chart explicitly defines and makes visible dependencies (precedence relationships) between the WBS elements, PERT/CPM facilitates identification of the critical path and makes this visible, PERT/CPM facilitates identification of early start, late start, and slack for each activity, PERT/CPM provides for potentially reduced project duration due to better understanding of dependencies leading to improved overlapping of activities and tasks where feasible.  PERT/CPM has the following disadvantages: There can be potentially hundreds or thousands of activities and individual dependency relationships, The network charts tend to be large and unwieldy requiring several pages to print and requiring special size paper, The lack of a timeframe on most PERT/CPM charts makes it harder to show status although colors can help (e.g., specific color for completed nodes), When the PERT/CPM charts become unwieldy, they are no longer used to manage the project.” (Borysowich, 2008) Traditionally PERT charts are used in the initial planning of a project like in a project that is utilizing the waterfall approach. Once the chart was created then project managers could further analyze this data to determine the earliest start time for each stage in the project. This is important because this information can be used to help forecast resource needs during a project and where in the project. However, the agile environment can approach this differently because of their constant need to be in contact with the client and the other stakeholders.  The PERT chart can also be used during project iteration to determine what is to be worked on next, such as a prioritized To-Do list a wife would give her husband at the start of a weekend. In my personal opinion, the COTS-centric environment would not really change how a company uses a PERT chart in their day to day work. The only thing I can is that there would be less tasks to include in the chart because the functionally milestones are already completed when the components are purchased. • Enabling EUS support in OUD 11gR2 using command line interface

    - by Sylvain Duloutre
Enterprise User Security (EUS) allows Oracle Database to use users & roles stored in LDAP for authentication and authorization.Since the 11gR2 release, OUD natively supports EUS. EUS can be easily configured during OUD setup. ODSM (the graphical admin console) can also be used to enable EUS for a new suffix. However, enabling EUS for a new suffix using command line interface is currently not documented, so here is the procedure: Let's assume that EUS support was enabled during initial setup.Let's o=example be the new suffix I want to use to store Enterprise users. The following sequence of command must be applied for each new suffix: // Create a local database holding EUS context infodsconfig create-workflow-element --set base-dn:cn=OracleContext,o=example --set enabled:true --type db-local-backend --element-name exampleContext -n // Add a workflow element in the call path to generate on the fly attributes required by EUSdsconfig create-workflow-element --set enabled:true --type eus-context --element-name eusContext --set next-workflow-element:exampleContext -n // Add the context to a workflow for routingdsconfig create-workflow --set base-dn:cn=OracleContext,o=example --set enabled:true --set workflow-element:eusContext --workflow-name exampleContext_workflow -n //Add the new workflow to the appropriate network groupdsconfig set-network-group-prop --group-name network-group --add workflow:exampleContext_workflow -n // Create the local database for o=exampledsconfig create-workflow-element --set base-dn:o=example --set enabled:true --type db-local-backend --element-name example -n // Create a workflow element in the call path to the user data to generate on the fly attributes expected by EUS dsconfig create-workflow-element --set enabled:true --set eus-realm:o=example --set next-workflow-element:example --type eus --element-name eusWfe// Add the db to a workflow for routingdsconfig create-workflow --set base-dn:o=example --set enabled:true --set workflow-element:eusWfe --workflow-name example_workflow -n //Add the new workflow to the appropriate network groupdsconfig set-network-group-prop --group-name network-group --add workflow:example_workflow -n  // Add the appropriate acis for EUSdsconfig set-access-control-handler-prop \           --add global-aci:'(target="ldap:///o=example")(targetattr="authpassword")(version 3.0; acl "EUS reads authpassword"; allow (read, search, compare) userdn="ldap:///??sub?(&(objectclass=orclservice)(objectclass=orcldbserver))";)' dsconfig set-access-control-handler-prop \       --add global-aci:'(target="ldap:///o=example")(targetattr="orclaccountstatusevent")(version 3.0; acl "EUS writes orclaccountstatusenabled"; allow (write) userdn="ldap:///??sub?(&(objectclass=orclservice)(objectclass=orcldbserver))";)' Last but not least you must adapt the content of the ${OUD}/config/EUS/eusData.ldif  file with your suffix value then inport it into OUD.

  • "Error in the Site Data Web Service." when performing crawl

    - by Janis Veinbergs
Installed SharePoint Services v3 (SP2, october 2009 cumulative updates, Language Pack), attached to a content database I had previously (all works). Installed Search server 2008 Express (with language pack) on top of WSS and crawl does not work. However it works for newly created web application + database. Was playing around with accounts, permissions to try get it working. Currently I have WSS_Crawler account with such permissions: Office Search Server runs with WSS_Crawler account Config database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler Content database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler WSS_Crawler is owner of search database. Added WSS_Crawler to SQL server browser user group and administrator Yes, i'v given more permissions than needed, but it doesn't even work with that and i don't know if its permission problem or what. Crawl log says there is Error in the Site Data Web Service., nothing more. There were known issues with a similar error: Error in the Site Data Web Service. (Value does not fall within the expected range.), but this is not the case as thats an old issue and i hope it has been included in SP2... Logs are from olders to newest (descending order). • AWS: Multi-region setup using single RDS instance

    - by Ion
I'm trying to scale our web application (PHP, MySQL, memcache) in a multi-region scheme. Currently we are using a setup with two EC2 instances behind an ELB and an RDS instance, all of them in US-EAST (Virginia) region. We would like to have a presence in the EU (Ireland) region as well. This means at least a new EC2 instance there (identical to the others, serving the same application). I have copied the desired AMI, setup the new instance, setup a same ELB configuration (required for SSL termination) and configured latency-based routing in Route53. And it works as suggested. But, clients from EU have speed problems. This is due to the fact that the EU EC2 instances connect to the US-based RDS instance. As far as I know Amazon has not yet enabled RDS multi-region replication. Do you have any suggestions on how to properly speed up the whole setup while using the single RDS instance? Also, any ideas in general on how to scale things up? Ideally we would like to continue using the RDS technology for various reasons. Nevertheless, I am open to suggestions (I guess the next idea would be to host our own MySQL servers).

  • Unable to assign command output to a variable

I am trying to assign the latest file name obtained from the below ls command but getting some error, it would be very nice if someone can answer how can I fix this! fn=`ls -lrt pur_bom_interface_daily*.log | cut -c59-102 | tail -1` or fn=$(ls -lrt pur_bom_interface_daily*.log | cut -c59-102 | tail -1) Error got: ls: 0653-341 The file pur_bom_interface_daily*.log does not exist Note: pur_bom_interface_daily*.log I am using * since there are multiple files starting their name with pur_bom_interface_daily and concatanated with the date on which they have got created.

  • Bricked - tty mode incorrect, terminal disabled, unity broken

I tried logging into TTY mode but it says my login is incorrect. I am trying to login with my normal ubuntu username and password. I have searched for solutions but since I dont have terminal or TTY I cant bash out any commands, and I have tried safeboot but the root terminal always says it cant run whatever command I enter. I am really lost and I am trying to avoid a fresh install :( I greatly and genuinely appreciate any help! This is the computer I use for college!

  • How to debug a .bash_profile

I was updating my .bash_profile, and unfortunetly I made a few updates and now I am getting: env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory -bash: tar: command not found -bash: grep: command not found -bash: cat: command not found -bash: find: command not found -bash: dirname: command not found -bash: /preexec.sh.lib: No such file or directory -bash: preexec_install: command not found -bash: sed: command not found -bash: git: command not found My bash_profile actually pulls in other .sh files (sources them) so I am not exactly sure which modification may have caused this. Now if I even try and to a list of files, I get: >ls -bash: ls: command not found -bash: sed: command not found -bash: git: command not found Any tips on how to trace the source of the error, and how to be able to use the terminal for basic things like listing files etc?

  • Problem bash completion apt-get 12.10

    - by dadexix86
    I've got an annoying problem with completion and sudo apt-get. To give an example: $ sudo apt-get in[Tab][Tab] in intel_bios_reader includeres intel_disable_clock_gating indicator-multiload intel_dpio_read info intel_dpio_write infobrowser intel_error_decode infocmp intel_forcewaked infokey intel_gpu_abrt infotocap intel_gpu_time inimf intel_gpu_top init intel_gtt init-checkconf intel_l3_parity initctl intel_reg_checker initctl2dot intel_reg_dumper initex intel_reg_read inkscape intel_reg_snapshot inkview intel_reg_write inputattach intel_sprite_on insmod intel_stepping install intel_upload_blit_large install-docs intel_upload_blit_large_gtt installfont-tl intel_upload_blit_large_map install-info intel_upload_blit_small installkernel interdiff --More-- While is working right both with just apt-get or doing it in root: $ apt-get in[Tab]stall $ sudo -i [sudo] password for davide: root@brenna:~# apt-get in[Tab]stall So the problem is using autocompletion after sudo? Not really, because $ sudo apt-[Tab][Tab] apt-add-repository apt-extracttemplates apt-key apt-cache apt-file apt-mark apt-cdrom apt-ftparchive apt-sortpkgs apt-config apt-get Summing up, the problem seems to be using sudo and auto-completion for programs options together. Any good advice for that?

I have a set of files on which I would like to apply the same command and the output should contain the same name as the processed file but with a different extension. Currently I am doing rename /my/data/Andrew.doc to /my/data/Andrew.txt I would like to do this for all the .doc files from the /my/data/ folder and to preserve the name. I tried several versions but I guess I have something wrong in the syntax as I an new to linux.

There seems to be about 9995 entries and I would like to display all of them. I have been using this command as of now awk '/CVSS Score is/ < /Potential vulnerability found/' output.txt but this seems to display only the name of the vulnerability or the score. How do I display this in file(text, excel) such that all the vulnerability and the corresponding score willbe displayed. Any help would be appreciated Thank you.

  • How do I pipe terminal standard output (stdout) to the clipboard?

    - by Insperatus
For example, Say I want to list the contents of a folder and directly paste them into a chat window for a friend to see. I realize I could do ls > filename.txt to create a file (filename.txt) with those contents; I'd then have to open or print the file and manually select and copy the text block (which can be annoying/tedious.) I clearly could also select and copy the output of ls directly from within the terminal window. It would be much faster/easier to simply pipe standard output to the clipboard. What terminal command allows me to do this?

  • Copy or Export Byobu screen?

    - by kmassada
One of the best things about byobu is the scrollback feature in a given session. I have been working on something, and I have tons of lines in the current scrollback session and I want to copy everything to a file, how to?? According to the screen home page, looks like you can do this? but when I'm done I do a search for all those files, can't find them. C-a h (hardcopy) Write a hardcopy of the current window to the file "hardcopy.n". C-a H (log) Begins/ends logging of the current window to the file "screenlog.n". For the screen commands to work, I have to be in screen mode, I believe, and not sure how to check that? kenneth@dv7:~$ ps -ef | grep byobu kenneth 16245 16173 0 05:18 pts/12 00:00:00 grep --color=auto byobu kenneth 25935 1 0 Dec14 ? 00:21:26 /usr/bin/xfce4-terminal -x byobu-launcher kenneth 25938 25935 0 Dec14 pts/0 00:00:00 tmux -2 -f /usr/share/byobu/profiles/tmuxrc new-session /usr/bin/byobu-shell kenneth 25962 1 1 Dec14 ? 00:37:31 tmux -2 -f /usr/share/byobu/profiles/tmuxrc new-session /usr/bin/byobu-shell kenneth 25963 25962 0 Dec14 pts/1 00:00:00 sh -c /usr/bin/byobu-shell This is from the byoby man page and I absolutely don't know what it does? I tried, it, and looked around, can't tell. Ctrl-a ~ - Save the current window's scrollback buffer there's also enter, copy mode, select with space key, and press enter to copy, I do that, the screen displays gibberish for 10 seconds refreshes, done. cat >> ~/log.output << COMM --paste using ctrl a ] I think-- COMM this confirms the copy paste works, but when I press enter, nothing get saved to that log file, I've checked, I do have write privileges in my home directory. lol the select all, from the xfce4-terminal doesn't go far enough, and scrolling back with the mouse, well won't work, no need to try it, I know byobu buffer doesn't work like that.

  • Delete directory by referencing symbolic link

    - by Adam
To set up the question, imagine this scenario: mkdir ~/temp cd ~/ ln -s temp temporary rm -rf temporary, rm -f temporary, and rm temporary each will remove the symbolic link but leave the directory ~/temp/. I have a script where the name of the symbolic link is easily derived but the name of the linked directory is not. Is there a way to remove the directory by referencing the symbolic link, short of parsing the name of the directory from ls -od ~/temporary?

  • Enable remote VNC from the commandline?

    - by Stefan Lasiewski
I have one computer running Ubuntu 10.04, and is running Vino, the default VNC server. I have a second Windows box which is running a VNC client, but does not have any X11 capabilities. I am ssh'd into the Ubuntu host from the Windows host, but I forgot to enable VNC access on the Ubuntu host. On the Ubuntu host, is there a way for me to enable VNC connections from the Ubuntu commandline? Update: As @koanhead says below, there is no man page for vino (e.g. man -k vino and info vino return nothing), and vino --help doesn't show any help).
