  Hi, I have the following function: function update(e:Event):void { var val:Number = Math.random() * 120; rgb.r.x = rgb.r.y = val; rgb.b.x = rgb.b.y = -val; } And im looping it with: stage.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, update); But what I need to do would be something like: Random number between 1 and 20 If the number is > 10 Call function Update and keep caling it for 20 seconds else do nothing for 10 seconds Repeat this block of code forever Can someone help me write this please?

• IE Hanging on jQuery code

  Here's another clichéd problem, but I couldn't find an exact match to this. I haven't posted any source here, as you can freely see all that is there on the link. :-) Statement:I have a web page at http://agrimgupta.com/antaragni/ Disclaimer: Pardon me for the pathetic coding on that page. ;-) It was done on a very short interval. Improvements will be done at a later stage. Observation: This page is functioning normally on my localhost on all browsers. Problem: IE 8 is crawling (nearly hanging) while loading this page from the website. Although it is working fine on localhost. When on the website, It fails to render the mouseover effects, doing them in almost what seems like a minute. Question: How to resolve this stuck up of IE? It is necessary to resolve this. • What do you wish you could've learned sooner?

  What things, methods, workflows, etc. can you not live without today and wish you had learned of a long time ago? For example, learning some basic Ubuntu and using my debugger properly in the IDE have made a huge difference to me and are together probably the two things that I most wish I had done a long time ago. Using a debugger just seems like common sense now to many of us, but to those that are in a early stage of their career it might not. (I'm a good example of that.)

• Server Side code Pushing Data to client Browser while current thread is busy Comet (programming)

  Hello Friends, I am writing one simple web page with bunch of textboxes and a button control. Now when user finished editing the values on this text boxes user has to click the button and this button invoke heavily process intensive algorithm on server side code based on the data received from client (Textboxes) And it could some time takes up to 30 to 45 minutes to complete the whole operation so the current thread is still inside the button click event handler function. That background task only provides one event, and the web page subscribes to it to get some text data after each stage of processing I was wandering if there is any way I can keep user up-to-date with what is the current progress on that background task. I have div element to print the current status information So I am looking for some sort of reverse mechanism then "get" and "post". I have read some articles on the Comet (programming) but I can't find any easy or definitive answer Thanks in advance

• trouble adding a rectange in actionscript

  I have a rectange that I've created and set its individual properties like so var aRect:Rect = new Rect(); aRect.x = 10; aRect.y = 10; aRect.width = "15%"; aRect.height = "15%"; addChild(aRect); I have 2 problems that the compiler seems to be choking on. The first is that the compiler chokes on 15% and "15%", with or without the quotes, neither works. The second is that adding the rectangle doesn't work. I tried all the following, but nothing works. addChild(aRect); Application.addChild(aRect); Application.application.addChild(aRect); stage.addChild(aRect); What's the deal, I thought actionscript would be nicer than mxml.

  I'm trying to load a html file into my UIWebView but it won't work. Here's the stage: I have a folder called html_files in my project. Then I created a webView in interface builder and assigned an outlet to it in the viewController. • SQL Server: Log file grows more and more, and do not get merged with the MDF file

  My database files look very suspicious. we are using the DB in a production stage. and I'm seeing how the LDF file grows more and more. while the MDF file seems as it is not growing at all (I don't have a file size history to demonstrate it, but I think it is not doing it!! I bet!) So I guess what could be happening? How could I force the merge to the MDF?

• How to restore files that were removed by git?

  I am a git noob and git just deleted a bunch of important files. How do I get them back? I have a repo on my local machine. To get into git, I just right click my project folder and select "git bash here". This brings up the master where I do all my giting. So I had some changes to stage and I did: git add . This staged a bunch of changes. I noticed that I didn't want some of these staged so I decided that I'd try to unstage everthing. I did this: git reset --hard HEAD^ This basically deleted a bunch of files that I had made on the last commit and jumped to the commit before. How do I get those files back? If I can't do it through git is there another way?

• Browser compatibility; Before or after uploading website to server?

  I am on the stage where I need to make my website cross-browser compatible. I need tips on how to get started. I have developed my website on firefox, so it works great with firefox. I guess I have to download a couple of versions of all major browsers now, right? Then just test each browser one by one? Should I do this before uploading the entire website onto a server or afterwards? All tips and SW which makes this easier is appreciated. BTW, it is a classifieds website using MySql, Solr, PHP, js etc... Thanks

  I've never built a game before, and I've not programmed for Android before but am looking to do so over the summer by building a game. What type of object do I use for a shape that I want the user to be able to drag around the screen for instance using touch gestures? How do I tie together the MotionEvent, View and Graphics2D to make objects drawn on screen that can be interacted with? I imagine this will use ActionListeners / Handlers but I'm a bit confused at this stage... A simple breakdown of steps would be much appreciated. Thanks

  After going through few articles about performance, Not able to get this statement exactly. "When a Drawable is attached to a view, the view is set as a callback on the drawable" Soln: "Setting the stored drawables’ callbacks to null when the activity is destroyed." What does that mean, e.g. In my app , I initialize an imageButton in onCreate() like this, imgButton= (ImageButton) findViewById(R.id.imagebtn); At later stage, I get an image from an url, get the stream and convert that to drawable, and set image btn like this, imgButton.setImageDrawable(drawable); According to the above statement, when I am exiting my app, say in onDestroy() I have to set stored drawables’ callbacks to null, not able to understand this part ! In this simple case what I have to set as null ? I am using Android 2.2 Froyo, whether this technique is required, or not necessary.

• MovieClip progress bar width is too small relative to parent container

  I am new to ActionScripot and Flash and I am stuck with the following problem: On the stage I have a movieclip (Container, originally 200px width) and inside it with a progressbar movieclip (originally 700px width), scaled with Free Transform Tool to fit the parent container. The width of the container changes run-time while resizing the scene. In ActionScript I have a function which should set the progress bar width according to a calculated percentage value: private function updateProgress(event:TimerEvent):void { var barWidth:int = _container.width; var progress:Number = _stream.time / _stream.duration * barWidth; _progressBar.width = progress; } My problem is that the progressBar even at full time (100%) is only at 1/4 of the parent container. I assume that it comes from the symbols original size. Can I correct this programatically, or I must redesign it with the "designer"? I hope I made clear my problem, as I said, I'm new in Flash.   I am developing an app which requires a SQL DB on the device. I am using the File.applicationStorageDirectory and folder.resolvePath to add a new DB. When debugging the app it all looks like it executes correctly and I am able to successfully create a new table. I haven't gone too far with inserting and reading records however I just wanted to ask, when I re-run the app does the existing DB file get replaced with a new empty one? If so do I need to check if the file exists etc. How can I look at the DB on the device (iOS at this stage)? Thanks

• [C++] Passing around objects to network packet handlers ?

  Hey, I've been writing a networking server for a while now in C++ and have come to the stage to start looking for a way to properly and easily handle all packets. I am so far that I can figure out what kind of packet it is, but now I need to figure out how to get the needed data to the handler functions. I had the following in mind: Have a map of function pointers with the opcode as key and the function pointer as value Have all these functions have 2 arguments, packet and ObjectAccessor ObjectAccessor class contains various functions to fetch various items such as users and alike Perhaps pass the user's guid too so we can fetch it from the objectaccessor I'd like to know the various implementations others have come up with, so please comment on this idea and reply with your own implementations. • Dev Environment Tests Not 100% Compatible with Staging/Production in Rails

  We use a bunch of specific apps/APIs that (unfortunately) differ quite a bit from dev to staging/production. We use tests and continuous integration at each stage, but in dev, the tests fail annoyingly (throwing dialogs, etc - thanks Windows for the 64-bit notification!). I hate to write custom code, but are there some best practices for how to allow a subset of testing in ruby/rails - or for patching out specific tests when you're running on Windows? Some specific situations that: Identify.exe does not support 64-bit Windows and throws a dialog. Sethostname is not supported, and throws an error (at least it's command line).

  Is there a simple way to clear all fields of an instance from a an instance? I mean, I would like to remove all values assigned to the fields of an instance. ADDED From the main thread I start a window and another thread which controls state of the window (the last thread, for example, display certain panels for a certain period of time). I have a class which contains state of the window (on which stage the user is, which buttons he already clicked). In the end, user may want to start the whole process from the beginning (it is a game). So, I decided. So, if everything is executed from the beginning, I would like to have all parameter to be clean (fresh, unassigned). ADDED The main thread, creates the new object which is executed in a new thread (and the old thread is finished). So, I cannot create a new object from the old thread. I just have a loop in the second thread.

• ActionScript - One Button Limit (Exclusive Touch) For Mobile Devices?

  two years ago, when i was developing an application for the iPhone, i used the following built-in system method on all of my buttons: [button setExclusiveTouch:YES]; essentially, if you had many buttons on screen, this method insured that the application wouldn't be permitted do crazy things when several button events firing at the same time. problematic: ButtonA and ButtonB are available. each button has a mouse up event which fire a specific reorganization/layout of the UI. if both button's events are fired at the same time, their events will likely conflict, causing a strange new layout, perhaps a runtime error. solution: application buttons cancel any current pending mouse up events when said button enters mouse down. private function mouseDownEventHandler(evt:MouseEvent):void { //if other buttons are currently in a mouse down state ready to fire //a mouse up event, cancel them all here. } of course it's simple to manually handle this if there are only a few buttons on stage, but managing buttons becomes more and more complicated / bug-prone if there are several / many buttons available. is there a convenience method available in AIR specifically for this functionality?

• many-to-many relationship in CI (not using ORM)

  I'm implementing a categories system in my CI app and trying to work out the best way of working with many to many relationships. I'm not using an ORM at this stage, but could use say Doctrine if necessary. Each entry may have multiple categories. I have three tables (simplified) Entries: entryID, entryName Categories: categoryID, categoryname Entry_Category: entryID, categoryID my CI code returns a record set like this: entryID, entryName, categoryID, categoryName but, as expected with Many-to-Many relationships, each "entry" is repeated for each "category". What would the best way to "group" the categories so that when I output the results, I am left with something like: Entry Name Appears in Category: Foo, Bar rather than: Entry Name Appears in Category: Foo Entry Name Appears in Category: Bar I believe the option is to track if the post ID matches a previous entry, and if so, store the respective category, and output it as one, rather than several, but am unsure of how to do this in CI. thanks for any pointers (I appreciate this is may be a vague/complex question without a better knowledge of the system).

• New to Git. Made a big mistake with git commit and ended up at an older commit

  I'm new to Git and I've made a huge mistake. Git kept prompting me with git - rejected master -> master (non-fast-forward). But, I still committed by using: --force This was disastrous, the whole project changed back to the stage it was at about a week ago. I've lost so many changes. I seem to have been pushed back to an earlier commit. Is there anyway I can get back to one of my newer commits? As I have made an enormous amount of changes and need to get them back. Thanks.

  Hello, has anyone ever tried to get the list of all the movieclips (even the nested ones) that are on Stage at a specified stopped (and current) frame in Flash 8, AS 2? I did the following: for(i in _root){ if(typeof(_root[i])=="movieclip"){ trace(_root[i]);} } But this is good for a first level search: that is, if inside the movieclips you have other movieclips, you can't reach them. Furthermore, inside a movieclip there can be more then one movieclip. Has anyone ever tried to do what I'm trying to do? Bye!

  Could anyone explaine me the error 1045 during MySQL setup I ll be preciated. I'm getting this error after reinstalling. I 'm going to install on windows 7. On the last stage of installation i.e apply security settings I'm getting the following message:"The security settings could not be applied. Error Number 1045. Access denied for user 'root' @ 'loaclhost'(usinf password: NO)". I know another way how to fix it that is reinstalling of operating system, but I can't do it please help how can I solve it?. • Dynamic connection for LINQ to SQL DataContext

  If for some reason you need to specify a specific connection string for a DataContext, you can of course pass the connection string when you initialise you DataContext object.  A common scenario could be a dev/test/stage/live connection string, but in my case its for either a live or archive database.   I however want the connection string to be handled by the DataContext, there are probably lots of different reasons someone would want to do this…but here are mine. I want the same connection string for all instances of DataContext, but I don’t know what it is yet! I prefer the clean code and ease of not using a constructor parameter. The refactoring of using a constructor parameter could be a nightmare.   So my approach is to create a new partial class for the DataContext and handle empty constructor in there. First from within the LINQ to SQL designer I changed the connection property to None.  This will remove the empty constructor code from the auto generated designer.cs file. Right click on the .dbml file, click View Code and a file and class is created for you! You’ll see the new class created in solutions explorer and the file will open. We are going to be playing with constructors so you need to add the inheritance from System.Data.Linq.DataContext public partial class DataClasses1DataContext : System.Data.Linq.DataContext    {    }   Add the empty constructor and I have added a property that will get my connection string, you will have whatever logic you need to decide and get the connection string you require.  In my case I will be hitting a database, but I have omitted that code. public partial class DataClasses1DataContext : System.Data.Linq.DataContext {    // Connection String Keys - stored in web.config    static string LiveConnectionStringKey = "LiveConnectionString";    static string ArchiveConnectionStringKey = "ArchiveConnectionString";      protected static string ConnectionString    {       get       {          if (DoIWantToUseTheLiveConnection) {             return global::System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[LiveConnectionStringKey].ConnectionString;          }          else {             return global::System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[ArchiveConnectionStringKey].ConnectionString;          }       }    }      public DataClasses1DataContext() :       base(ConnectionString, mappingSource)    {       OnCreated();    } }   Now when I new up my DataContext, I can just leave the constructor empty and my partial class will decide which one i need to use.
