• Setting up a wireless access point with Ubuntu server

  I am trying to setup a wifi access point with my Ubuntu server, everything "seems" to be good since I got a better wifi radio (long story). But now I am a little confused, when my Android phone tries to associate with the AP it is able to with no problem but then it cannot get an IP address from my DHCP server. I have tried messing with firewall rules, nothing... I tried making a bridge interface as per what I am told I had to do. ( Not sure if i did it right though). What I am trying to do if make the wireless interface an extention of my eth0 network. Am I on the right track or am I going about the wrong way?

• Keyboard shortcuts are not working when unity plugin in ccsm is disabled?

  I am using ubuntu 11.10 with unity 2d , I dont like the unity launcher and use Docky . So , i have created a new seeion and using some tweaking and playing around i have been successful to get rid of the unity launcher and make a perfect interface that i like , but there are two problems .. Keyboard shortcuts not working I had to disable the ubuntu unity plugin in ccsm to get rid of the unity laucher..when it is enabled , i can use the keyboard shortcuts such as alt+tab etc .. But when i disable it , I am unable to use some shortcuts , I can still use some shortcuts like alt+F4 ect. When I maximise a window , it used to show two window (close , maximise , minimize )buttons and title bars So , i set the window decoration in ccsm to !maxvert from any , and it is working fine for most of the time until i try to snsp the window to a side then the title bar just disappears , leaving space between the panel and the window , I cant close this window until i use the alt+mouse to drag it out , because no buttons would be displayed ..

  I have two ASUS laptops running Windows 7 connected wirelessly via 802.11n at 150 Mbit, as reported by Task Manager. The router is Netgear WNDR3700. When testing the wireless connection speed using iperf, I'm not getting nearly 150 Mbit: C:\>iperf -c 10.0.0.123 -t 30 ------------------------------------------------------------ Client connecting to 10.0.0.123, TCP port 5001 TCP window size: 8.00 KByte (default) ------------------------------------------------------------ [148] local 10.0.0.116 port 53819 connected with 10.0.0.123 port 5001 [ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth [148] 0.0-30.0 sec 41.2 MBytes 11.5 Mbits/sec That's a typical result. Running parallel client threads does not increase the overall total speed. Why would I only be getting 11.5 Mbit on a 150 Mbit connection?

• Slower wireless speed in Ubuntu 12.04 (64-bit) on Asus USB-N13

  I have an Asus USB-N13 which I use for wireless internet on my desktop. The download speed I get on Windows 7 (dual-boot) is 15.22 Mbps. On Ubuntu 12.04 (64-bit) I can only get 1.09 Mbps. I asked a question about this on the Ubuntu forums as well, but I did not get an answer. • Recommend a wireless PCI card for Windows 7

  I have a crummy RT2500-based 11g card which does work in Win7 with the Vista driver (3.2.0.0) but it dies about every two hours or so. Googling around has led me to conclude that Ralink drivers are basically borked, and that I need something else for a stable connection. Can anyone recommend a suitable wireless adapter? It needs to be: 802.11g - draft-N nice but not at all essential. PCI - I already have far more USB devices than can possibly be good for me. Very reliable. Money isn't an object within reason. All input gratefully received!

When I clicked on that and tried to clone my PC's MAC address, it said invalid MAC address. • Buffalo wireless router

  Hi all, I have a Buffalo wireless router and it appears to work fine, for the most part. However, printing out some debug information, I noticed that the Mode is reported as unknown/bug. In the DD-WRT configuration, I have selected AP which should be Master. I was having a problem earlier with my ESSID being a bunch of weird characters. I re-entered it and restarted the router and now the ESSID is correct. I tried re-entering the configuration for the router and it still is reported back as Unknown/bug via iwlist wlan0 scanning. Any ideas? Walter

• Macbook cannot see specific wireless network after being connected to it for a while

  Okay, so there's a single wireless network that my laptop has troubles with. My Macbook Pro used to be fine with it until it changed to using channel 13 (or 11?). Since then, after being connected to it for a while it disappears from my laptop's view. Other networks are showing up fine and other computers (including several Macs) have no troubles connecting to this network. If I clear my system cache using Onyx and then restart (sometimes a couple times) my laptop can see and connect to it again. But it seems that if I disconnect and try reconnecting I have to clear my cache again. One thing to note is that if I put my computer to sleep while connected to this network it has no problems reconnecting on wake up. I've got a 15" Macbook Pro 2,2 with Leopard 10.5.8.

  I used to connect via a Sitecom WL-174 directly to ADSL internet. There were some pc's which connected wirelessly and some connected with a wire. Now we got another provider and we need to use the router which came with it. It is also a wireless router. It works perfectly. But I need to connect the other pc's which were connected with a wire previously. Is it possible to connect the Sitecom router wirelessly to the other router? If so, how? Thanks.

It's not a hardware issue, b/c it connects to other networks successfully, and, it's not a network issue, because I have another mac and linux laptops that have no problem detecting and connecting to the same network. When I open windows' network connections box, I can see the network available, and when I try to connect to it (using a password), I get a "network no longer in range.." error (the router is 2 ft away). This has been the case for the past 6 months, and I'm about to give up. I've reset the router, erased all saved network preferences and pretty much all I could think of short of re-installing XP. Any idea what else could be done? thanks.

  I have two wireless ADSL routers sitting right next to each other, each with his own internet connection. I'd like to be able to connect to a computer that is connected to router A from a computer that is connected to router B, while keeping both routers internet connection individually. i.e. If computer A is connected to router A, it will use router A internet connection, and a second computer, call it B, will be connected to router B, and will use router B internet connection.   This may be an odd question, I apologize. I just got the Microsoft ergo keyboard 4000 and was curious about how the zoom feature was to work. I'm using Windows 7 and in Word, IE, or when viewing an image the zoom doesn't seem to do anything. Device manager says that the drivers are updated. • Keyboard doesn't let me press certain keys at the same time

  I'm not sure how to word the problem other than I can't use certain keys at the same time. For example, when playing games that require you to use the arrow keys to move and jump/duck I am unable to move to the left and jump (left arrow + up arrow) at the same time. As a result, I don't play many games when I get to a point where the jumps and what not are too far. This happens with other keys as well. In FPS I am unable to hold W to move forward and hit 2 to select my secondary weapon. Some information that might help you: I am using Windows 7 64-bit I am using a Micro Innovations KB565BL keyboard How can I fix this?

• Modify .htm files on wireless router

  What am I trying to do? I am attempting to access the .htm files on my wireless router to modify the look and feel of the Netgear GENIE webpage(s). What have I done? I've read several articles on eHow and Instructables that detail how to setup your router as an FTP server, since I figured the best way to access the files would be through FileZilla. Setting up an FTP server through my router doesn't sound like what I should do to accomplish my task... or perhaps it is? I've also read the documents provided by Netgear for getting started and setting up functionality on the router. Maybe I overlooked something? My specifications Netgear router WNR2000v3 FileZilla v3.8.1 UPDATE: Since someone voted to close this question I'll clarify what I'm asking for... At the present I am dissatisfied with the current UI/webpage look when logging into routerlogin.net. Furthermore I would like to make changes to the admin dashboard.

• Das keyboard boot camp

  So I recently started using a Das keyboard ultimate with my mac and after installing the key re-mapping, it basically works ok. I have a couple of issues with the set up involving boot camp. When I start up the computer, which key maps to option in order to let me pick which operating system to boot into? I think the bios is detecting the keys along the bottom as alt or something like that and I am not sure what to do here. In windows 7, the " and @ keys are switched. How do I get windows to remap this back to the US english settings? Thanks for any help you can provide.

• Keyboard layout for mathematical/Greek symbols

  I've been wondering about this for a long time but never thought to ask: I do a lot of scientific work so there are many times it would be really handy to be able to type mathematical symbols or Greek letters which, for the most part, aren't part of the ASCII character set. Like "8 µ ? s t ? ? … v ? = = ±" and so on. Is there a keyboard layout (for Linux) that maps simple key combinations to these kinds of characters? (Assuming all the encoding and font issues are worked out properly) I know I could create one myself but it'd be a lot easier if someone's already done the work, or at least if there's a partial solution I could modify.

• Problem whit usb wireless mouse

  Recently i have thi problem whit my wireless mouse (Trust model on: www.trust.com/15313). Sometimes when i start the Pc or during a game the pointer/arrow stop to move it. In the Pc start the pointer is blocked on the center of the screen. If I'm lucky i have to chance the USB wirless adapter from port 1 to port 2 but sometimes this trick doesn't work i to use the mouse i have to restart. Like you can see in the productor webpage this mouse don't have the direver but only a tool to solve some problem. • Using curly braces with a standard pc keyboard on a mac laptop

  I have a standard PC keyboard connection to my Mac laptop. All keys work fine but the special characters that need "Alt-Gr" as accelerator keys would not work. I have a Swiss layout where the curly braces are such special keys. However I need them all the time and having to get used to a different layout is too painful (I'd rather get used to a US Layout once and for all). Does anyone have an idea how to switch this? Note: I have managed to switch the option and the command key, so that's not my problem.

  Hi, I have a belkin wireless-g router, model F5D7230-4. about every 10-15 minutes, for about 1-1.5 mins I won't be able to browse any web sites. during this period, I usually get replys from "ping google.com". maybe 4/5 times I'll get a reply, 1/5 times i don't. I have changed the router DNS entries from "get DNS server from ISP" to 8.8.8.8, google's DNS and that hasn't fixed the situation. This happens on several computers, running windows7, xp, ubuntu, and a mac, so it is definitely NOT an issue with a computer configuration. any ideas?

  I have a dual-band 802.11n router operating in both frequency bands with the same SSID. My Windows 7 laptop has a dual-band wireless adapter. Is there a way to find out which frequency band is the one currently used by the client? Also, is there a way to set the preffered band? Thanks. EDIT1: The router is Linksys E4200 (V2) and I essentially want to keep the 2.4GHz band in the mixed-mode so that the legacy 802.11g devices can connect while allocating the 5.0GHz band for 802.11n devices. • Wireless bridge between two prolink adsl modem/router

  Allright, so i've got 2 prolink hurricane h5004n. Its a broadband adsl modem and router. My Pc is connected to the first one via ethernet. What i want to do is a wireless bridge to make the 2 routers "talk". I've tried hooking up the dsl cable (as they are modems) in both to try but when one disconnects as the other connects. I don't really know about the configurations to be done of all the DCHP or RIP and NAT forwarding stuffs. (i'm just writing what i saw) In short i want the second router to act as a wifi repeater but i don't see any repeater option and i also do not want to connect them via ethernet. So is it possible to do something? Apart from buying another repeater i don't want to spend anymore i'm done :S

• Setting up dual wireless routers

  I have two wireless routers (one is the router supplied by Verizon - MI424-WR ActionTek and the other is DD-WRT Buffalo router). I want to set them up so that I have the second router (Buffalo) on its own subnet and two SSIDs so I can put different devices on different routers and so I can put my web server on the first router and put most of my other computers behind the second router for a little extra protection in case of a compromise. From my understanding, I have to hook the two routers together so that the LAN from the Verizon router plugs into the WAN port of the Buffalo router. This is where I get stuck. What settings do I need to look for to setup the Buffalo on its own subnet? Do I need to do anything with the Verizon router, or are the configuration changes done to the Buffalo?

• How can I reach over 100% volume with a keyboard shortcut?

  sometimes the sound of videos isn't enough for me. so i reach the sound indicator , over sound preferences and change it to a level higher than 100%. the question is how can i do it from the keyboard? now i can control the volume from the keyboard but it's maximum is 100%. is there a way to do that? EDIT 1: how to use amixer to do it? (as Lyrositor suggested) EDIT2: the closest answer , as Jo-erland, suggested is to set a hotkey to bring up the gnome-volume-control, and then to use left and right arrows to change volume also beyond the 100% mark. any other suggestions, to make this 1 step only? is it possible to set a hotkey to do a sequence of commands ?
