  I am developing a simple application where in we have predefined quotas on usage for each user on the system.. and if the quota is up..the system should logoff of the user account.. this will happen if the application is allowed to run.. but if the user is closing the application on his own ..the app should automaticaly logoff the account.. i did exactly that in writing forced logoff code in form-closing event.. but if we are closing the app/process using the taskmanager.. the form closing event is not being called. and so the user is able to continue even if his quota of time is up.. can anybody helpme out with this..

  I have a grid layout that holds a limited 6 items per screen. This set number is just a base for the app and make it look and feel better so it must stay set to that. To get passed this and to add some flash to the app, I want to animate a style of screen change. For instance, when a finger is dragged left, push the current view to the side and bring the next it, very similar to how a gallery does it, except I would like it to be able to scroll vertical as well.   In VB6, users occasionally receive this error and I am unable to reproduce it. Run-Time Error '5': Invalid Procedure Call or Argument I am referencing the "MSWord 10 Object Library" and sometimes this error occurs at some point after the application has opened MSWord 2002. However, this app has referenced the MSWord 10 Object Library for years, and this error just started occurring in the last few months. I am assuming I have introduced a bug somewhere, but no idea what might be causing it. The error does not occur very often and cannot be reproduced by a user when I am standing there. The error forces the app to totally shut down. Users are running Windows XP

• Are string resource ID values guaranteed to be consistent over different projects?

  I have some messages being passed back from my server through php. The problem is that the messages are in English and if the user is using another language they will still get the message in English. So I had an idea that maybe instead of passing back the message I would instead pass the String resource Id from the android app, that way the app will get the correct string id for their language. I will use this in a number of apps so I just want to know if the string id is guaranteed to be the same across different android projects?

• Contacts activity doesn't return data

  In my app I simply open the list of activities and when a contact is clicked I attempt to retrieve the name of the contact selected and put it into a string. The app crashes in the onActivityResult() function. • Viewing directory containing MIME encoded email messages

  I have an application which generates and sends MIME encoded messages (javax.mail.internet.MimeMessage) through an SMTP server. As part of the development process only, I'd like to be able to view these messages rather than send them (I know the sending works just fine, but there are restrictions on the domains within the dev environment which makes it a little difficult) I thought the easiest way would be to save the text for each message to a directory, then point "an app" at the directory and check them over. So the question is, what would be a good app to use? Is it as simple as configuring Outlook or another email client to do it? Thanks

• iOS Downloading Videos and saving in Application Support folder

  In my application, i've to download videos around 10 to my application and play accordingly. Each video is around 50 MB. I'm using following code and then after downloading the video, i'm saving it to Application support folder to avoid icloud sync. But the problem is that when downloading the videos its crashing. [NSURLConnection sendAsynchronousRequest:req queue:[[NSOperationQueue alloc] init] completionHandler:^(NSURLResponse *response, NSData *rcvdDat, NSError * err) { . . . } What I'm thinking is that, while downloading the video, it resides in memory and so the total memory occupying by the app is increasing. Finally iOS is making the app to close. I would like to download the video and when ever a stream of data received, write to temp file and when completes move it to application support folder. Can some one help me on how to write it to file and save it at the end? I cannot use 3rd party libraries (unless its small) due to legal issues.

• Explicitly persist states in Workflow 4.0 rather than everything.

  I have ran into an issue with my SQL instance store attached to a WorkflowApplication that is running. When I exit my application I'm calling an Unload() on the WF app to persist it. I didn't think about it during design time, but it does makes sense, it's persisting an arg that was passed in to the WorkflowApplication constructor when instanced. When the application runs, everything in the workflow works as expected. When I call Unload() I get an unhandled exception that states that the arg is not serializable and needs [DataContractAttribute]. What's passed into the workflow is my applications custom logger object that I wrote so that the WF can log to disk in a uniform way that I prefer. How do I prevent the workflow app from persisting this one argument and persist everything else? I'm sure something can be done with extensions but I'm having a hard time finding info on them or finding persistence examples for my scenario.

But only -link http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/ is working i.e for String class link http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/lang/String.html?is-external=true is generated. but for android.app.Dialog , no link is generated.   Hello all, I've got an android app that uses a map activity and serves up content based on map location. I'm looking for a way to allow the user to search for a location by name (anything from 'New York' to 'Eiffel Tower') - e.g. have a text input field into which they could type 'Rome' - after pressing a button, the user would be brought to the coordinates of Rome on the map. What would be the best way to go about this? I've looked into the google geocoding api (http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/geocoding/), but it has limitations of 2,500 geolocation requests per day - I'm presuming this is per API key? Or is it per user/source IP? 2,500 requests for one android app woudln't last long. Ideally, I would be able to search for English and foreign names of countries. Thanks in advance! r3mo

  I want to get Default Windows Forms Unhandled-Exception Dialog whenever my C# application encounters U-E. In vs 2005 when I turn off jit Debugging in app.conf like this: <configuration> <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="false" /> <configuration> the application behaves correctly and shows Windows Forms U-E default dialog, with Continue, Quit, call stack and all. However in vs 2008, on the same machine or different, even though I diable jit I still get Default .NET Unhandled-Exception Dialog, with Debug, Send Report and Don't Send buttons. How can I make my vs 2008 app act like the one I make in vs 2005, to show Windows Forms U-E dialog box? Please do not recommend to use AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException += new UnhandledExceptionEventHandler(CurrentDomain_UnhandledException); just because I don't use custom handler in my vs 2005 project, why would I use in vs 2008? I want to let this job do CLR. Any help is appreciated

  I have a web app hosted in a cloud environment which can be expanded to multiple web-nodes to serve higher load. What I need to do is to catch this situation when we get more and more HTTP requests (assets are stored remotely). How can I do that? The problem I see from this point of view is that if we have more requests than mongrel cluster can handle then the queue will grow. And in our Rails app we can only count only after mongrel will receive the request from balancer.. Any recommendations?

  Basically I'm trying to make a little app for watching offline content. So there's a moment where the user selects to download the contents (and the app should download about 300 small files and images). I'd like to show the user how does the process go if he enters the proper activity. Showing a list of all the files, telling what has been already downloaded, in progress or waiting for download. My problem is that I really don't know what approach to take for achieve this. Since the download should last until finished I imagine the solution is an Service, but whats best? an IntentService, a Bound Service or an Standard Service calling a startService() for each download?   Hi, I'm using MS log application block for logging my application event into a file called app-trace.log which located on the c:\temp folder. I'm trying to find the best way to read this file at runtime and display it when the user asks for it. now i have 2 issues: it seems that this kind of feature is not supported by the framework, hence i have to write this reader myself. am i missing something here? is there any better way of getting this data (w/o buffering it in the memory or saving it into another file). if i'm taking the only alternative that left for me, and implementing the reader myself, when i'm tring to do: System.IO.FileStream fs = new System.IO.FileStream(@"c:\temp\app-trace.log", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read); i'm getting "File being used by another process c#", probably the file is locked by the application block. is there any way to access and read it anyhow? I investigated a bit and discovered that after the py2exe process, 3 items were missing from __builtin__. These are help, license, and another one I haven't discovered. • Design best practice - best way to handle user selection

  I'm an experienced developer (WPF) moving over to Android development. My question: an app I am developing allows the user to browse their local storage (such as SDCARD) and select a file. Now, should I simply create a new Activity (after the user has made a selection) to handle what I want to have the app do with that chosen file, -or- is the better approach to pass the path/name of the selected file back to the main Activity and let IT launch the next Activity? In other words, is the better practice to have the main Activity launch other (support) activities, or is it perfectly ok and normal to have one activity chain to another and on and on? Thanks!

  I'm new to Haskell and I'm trying to use a pure SHA1 implementation in my app (Data.Digest.Pure.SHA) with a JSON library (AttoJSON). AttoJSON uses Data.ByteString.Char8 bytestrings, SHA uses Data.ByteString.Lazy bytestrings, and some of my string literals in my app are [Char]. • Passing GPS speed via the Eclipse Emulator Control

  Hi, my app queries the GPS-speed using .getSpeed() on a LocationListener. Is there a way to set this speed using the Eclipse Emulator Control or the command line? I tried to feed multiple sets of coordinates to the emulator via the manual GPS-control, but it didn't pick up a speed from that. Also, using a pre-defined GPX-file and playing it doesn't work for me. I would like to test my app without having to take it on a test-drive in my car every time ;)! Thanks!

  I have a few data values that I need to store on my rails app and wanted to know if there are any alternatives to creating a database table just to do this simple task. Background: I'm writing some analytics and dashboard tools for my ruby on rails app and i'm hoping to speed up the dashboard by caching results that will never change. Right now I pull all users for the last 30 days, and re arange them so I can see the number of new users per day. It works great but takes quite a long time, in reality I should only need to calculate the most recent day and just store the rest of the array somewhere else. Where is the best way to store this array? Creating a database table seems a bit overkill, and i'm not sure that global variables are the correct answer. Is there a best practice for persisting data like this? If anyone has done anything like this before let me know what you did and how it turned out.

• iPhone/iPad fatal error in C++ code produces no output in the log

  I'm trying to move away from Objective-C to C++ for audio in my iPad programming, due to the a few reports I've heard of Objective-C selectors sometimes causing audio glitches. So I'm starting to use pure C++ files. When a fatal error happens in one of the C++ files, I get no output from the log. The app just crashes. For example, if I do this in my C++ file: env = new ADSR(); cout << "setting env to null\n"; env = NULL; env->setSustainLevel(1); cout << "called function on non-initialized env\n"; I get the following output: setting env to null After that, there's a method called on NULL, which apparently kills the app, but absolutely nothing to that effect is reported. What do I need to do to have useful information logged when there's an error in my C++ code?

• iPad --- managedObject problem when [self.tableViewSection reloadData]

  Hi , I am creating a news aggregator application that fetches a xml feed every 4 minutes. After the xml is loaded, I clear everything by deleting all the objects in the database, then save the new objects back into the database. I then call [self.tableViewSection reloadData]; to reload the tableView. Thats when I get a problem. As soon as the code gets to a section where i access the new [[managedObject valueForKey:@"event_text"] description] content it fails with a : * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSObjectInaccessibleException', reason: 'CoreData could not fulfill a fault for '0x4b3f6a0 '' Now from the flow I described on top, it seems odd to me that the tableView is populated properly the next time i launch the application, with the "new" data I fetched in the previous session. So its not that data thats corrupt , but seems to me something goes wrong when I refetch the managedObject after saving new data. Also keep in mind thats this app runs fine on the iPhone, its the iPad thats is giving me this problem.
