• Information not getting into the controller from the view. (authologic model)

  Right now I'm building a project management app in rails, here is some background info: Right now i have 2 models, one is User and the other one is Client. Clients and Users have a one-to-one relationship (client - has_one and user - belongs_to which means that the foreign key it's in the users table) So what I'm trying to do it's once you add a client you can actually add credentials (add an user) to that client, in order to do so all the clients are being displayed with a link next to that client's name meaning that you can actually create credentials for that client. So in order to do that I'm using a helper the link to helper like this. <%= link_to "Credentials", {:controller => 'user', :action => 'new', :client_id => client.id} %> Meaning that he url will be constructed like this: http://localhost:3000/clients/2/user/new By creating the user for the client with he ID of 2. And then capturing the info into the controller like this: @user = User.new(:client_id => params[:client_id]) The weird thing is that EVERY other information BUT the client id it's getting passed and the client ID should be passed with the params[:client_id]. Any ideas? Perhaps it may have something to do with the fact that model User has "acts_as_authentic" because I'm using authologic for it? • DVR_PLAYER.exe reports Remote200.ocx is missing?

  I have a program called DVR_PLAYER that is downloaded from a home security camera web interface. The web interface saves surveillance footage in the form of proprietary .drv files. I am unable to use the program to view the files on the cd on any machine that isn't the original machine I downloaded the files from. Every time I try to open it up it says, " Remote200.ocx not installed or it couldn't be installed. Please check user privilege." I need other machines to be able to open and view the footage I've downloaded using this program so that I can hand it in to the local police. Any ideas?

  I am running Debian Wheezy on my server, and have just installed a VNC server and Xfce. I have come across a problem: whenever I open a terminal emulator through VNC, I get an error box with this message: Failed to execute child. getpt failed: No such file or directory. This happens with every terminal I try to run. I can still run commands through SSH, however. It's just the terminal that won't open. • SSH tunneling with Synology

  I try to tunnel SMB and AFP services through SSH to acces my NAS shares on my machine. I already do it successfully with my ReadyNAS using the following command line (ran as my user on my mac) : ssh -Nf -p 22 -c 3des-cbc USER@SERVER -L 8888/127.0.0.1/548 -L 9999/127.0.0.1/139 but I cannot reproduce the same with the Synology NAS. Connecting using this command gives me the following error : channel 4: open failed: administratively prohibited: open failed I also tried with a windows client (used bitvise tunneler): it works with the ReadyNAS but not the Synology and get the following error msg : server denied request for client-side server-2-client forwarding on 127.0.0.1:139 I modified /etc/ssh/sshd_config : MaxSessions 10 PasswordAuthentication yes PermitEmptyPasswords no AllowTcpForwarding yes GatewayPorts yes PermitTunnel yes Is there any way to make it work ? I must add that I can successfully connect via SSH to the NAS so I donnot think this is a firewall issue between the Synology and my computer. Thanks for you answers

• Office 2013 OCT unhandled exception when saving .RSP

  I'm trying to prepare a deployment of office 2013 pro plus. If I deploy an existing .rsp file that was left behind by the old analyst (typing from the client): PS C: \\deploybox\software\Office2013\setup.exe /adminfile \\deploybox\software\Office2013\SWKS.MSP Things seem to deploy just fine. if I make any changes to the .rsp file by doing (all from the client): PS C: \\deploybox\software\Office2013\setup.exe /admin * Open SWKS.MSP * Make changes * Save under a different name SWKS1.MSP I get the following errorbox: Unhandled Exception: MsiGetSummaryInformation call failed. And if I try to deploy the new SWKS1.MSP, PS C: \\deploybox\software\Office2013\setup.exe /adminfile \\deploybox\software\Office2013\SWKS1.MSP it fails with the message: Path or file specified with /adminfile did not contain any customization patches that apply to this product or platform. If I even open the old known good .rsp file SWKS.MSP, and immediately save it as a new name SWKS1.MSP, making no changes, then the same thing happens. So what stupid newbie mistake am I making here?   So I have a Windows XP SP 3 machine which is running Outlook 2007. When I search in Outlook for an email that exists using a basic keyword, like say "MySQL", I get no results. However, Outlook gives me the following message: Search results may be incomplete because items are still being indexed. Click here for more details. When I click, I get the following: Outlook is currently indexing your items. Search results may be incomplete because items are still being indexed. 8783 items remaining in "Mailbox - USER" 8812 items remaining across all open mailboxes. The thing is, these are the numbers it has been reporting for several days, and Outlook is open for 8 hours a day. It does not seem like the index is working. As best I can tell, the index seemed to stop about 3 weeks ago. How can I force Outlook 2007 to re-index everything and start working properly again?

  We have a Dell PowerEgde 1950 server with Broadcom NetXtreme gigabit ethernet card, and we are facing a strange problem with static IP assignment. When we assign a static IP to this broadcom NIC, settings are not getting saved. Following are the steps to reproduce problem open TCP/IP properties window for broadcom NIC manually enter static IP address and other details like gateway, DNS, etc. apply and close properties dialog. re-open TCP/IP properties windows, you will see your static IP settings lost and changed to "obtain IP address manually" but when checked using ipconfig command, you will still see your same static IP settings but, when checked using ipconfig command after rebooting server, these static ip settings are completely gone and automatically obtained IP is assigned Supplementary information: Recently we had formatted this server and installed windows 2003 from OEM windows setup CD (not from OS installation CD received from Dell). After windows installation was over, broadcom NIC drivers were installed.

• Intel RST crashing! IAStorUI unstable in win 8.1

  I have a Z87E-ITX Asrock mobo. Using a new 64G Corsair SSD as cache and a new Western Digi Black Scorpion 750G 2.5" drive. Using windows 8.1. Latest software or not, I can't open Intel RST software without it saying IAStorUI has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly blah blah. I have had some issues recently with Robotic sounds causing fps drops etc but found it was the HDD. After a standard windows scan and fix (& update to win 8.1) I haven't been able to open Intel RST. I thought maybe I should try to look for an SSD cache drive checker but as it doesn't show up as a drive, I'm unsure how any program can scan it.

• Apache2 can't close connections with restart

The Apache error log may have more information. failed! Occasionally it actually will restart without a problem but usually I have to killall -9 apache2 first. Someone on the Debian IRC had me check my active apache2 connections and it turns out they aren't quitting and dozens of them are staying open. How can I get these to eventually time out?

• Teamviewer: cannot control monitor 1, but can control monitor 2

  I'm using the web client of Teamviewer from my work computer trying to control my home computer. I have 2 monitors on the remote desktop, but for some reason only have control on the second monitor. When I switch to the main monitor (monitor 1), I cannot do anything and cannot even move the cursor. But I have no issues when I switch over to the second monitor (monitor 2). I used to have no issues with either, but in the past couple of months this has been causing me issues. Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks!! Also... Here is the log from the Teamviewer session. • Excel crashes when opening Excel files from Internet Explorer

  I have been running into some issues when opening Excel files from Internet Explorer, generally the first document or two will open fine but after that trying to open a file will cause Excel and Internet Explorer to crash to the desktop without any notifications being given. This doesn't happen for users who are running Excel 2007, but for users with Excel 2003 it may or may not happen to them. The files in question are Excel XML files and Internet Explorer 6 and Excel 2003 are being use. At this time it would not be possible to upgrade Internet Explorer, but it would be able to upgrade to Excel to version 2007 if that would resolve the issue. Overdue Update: We recently upgraded to Firefox at the office which has rendered this error a non-issue; however, it is still unresolved from the standpoint that we haven't been able to come up with an explanation to the issue. Since IE6 is still installed on the systems, a fix to the problem (or explanation of why it's happening) would be appreciated.

• Cheap dvr media server

  I would like to build a new computer to be used as a DVR and media server. I am thinking of using mythtv as the DVR software, but short of that decision I am completely open to suggestions. Requirements: Must be cheap. Must have low power consumption (since it will always be on). Should be quiet. Should be small. I'm really not sure where to start with this project, and am open to any hardware/software suggestions. Is it possible to build a small quiet and cheap system? *Keep in mind I am working on this project because I am tired of Cable rate increases, but I can't imagine living without a DVR so cost is very important and I would like the system to be sub $200.00. Now, a specific Shared Excel file is driving me crazy, out of a sudden, lots of times per day, users are getting the following error while opening that file: Filename.xlsx is locked for editing by ‘another user’. Open ‘Read-Only’ or, click ‘Notify’ to open.. I’ve already followed this, with no joy: http://blogs.technet.com/b/the_microsoft_excel_support_team_blog/archive/2012/05/14/the-definitive-locked-file-post.aspx In any case, I strongly think this is not client-related, since it never gave that problem in the past with Windows Server 2003. • After forced quit, “killall Finder” says “No matching processes…” but PID still exists?

  Here's one for ya. Upon a forced quit of the Finder with unsuccessful relaunch, "killall Finder" in terminal returns: "No matching processes belonging to you were found" Oddly enough, the PID for finder does actually show up after a "ps -A" to reveal all processes. But the time is perpetually listed as 0:00:00, upon repeated PID listings. I tried the following to manually launch it: open /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app But it puked: LSOpenFromURLSpec() failed with error -600 for the file /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app. Any other ideas on a Finder relaunch that don't involve rebooting? (I usually have 6 spaces open at once, each with a handful of apps and it's a pain reloading them all.)

• ssh tunnel error "ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host"

  I'm trying to use an ssh tunnel from my office machine to my home machine, and get an error when I try to use it. What I'm doing is starting one shell like so: ssh -gL 12345:my.home.domain:22 my.home.domain This is giving me a proper shell, no problem. What I normally do then is ssh to my home machine through this office machine, like so: ssh -p 12345 127.0.0.1 This has always worked for me, until last week, when I set up a new system on my home machine (switching from Ubuntu to Debian). Now I get an error. I can still open up my initial ssh connection, but when I try to use that tunnel, I get (on the office machine) this error: ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host Also, when that happens, the open shell that I have the tunnelling set up through gets this line spat out at it: channel 3: open failed: connect failed: Connection timed out At which point, I'm at a loss. If any more info is needed, I'll be happy to post it. ============= further to that ============== After fiddling around further, I've found that I'm getting a different response from the server (my home machine that is) when I try to telnet in on the various ports. If I try: telnet my.home.domain 22 I get this back: Trying <my ip address>... Connected to <my domain>. Escape character is '^]'. SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_5.5p1 Debian-6+squeeze2 Which is what I would expect. After setting up the tunnel though, and then telnetting to that, I see this response: Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to 127.0.0.1.   I am trying to run bind9 with chroot jail.
