• How to Disable Touchpad tap in Toshiba Tecra R850 in Oneiric

  I know there's a lot of similar questions, but nothing I have tried here works yet - perhaps I was doing it wrong. New Laptop - Toshiba Tecra R850 with an install of Oneiric. Mostly things are working well, but I have a problem with the touchpad (or whatever it's called) - whenever I use it for moving the mouse pointer I accidentally tap on it - basically I am clicking all over the place by accident. So I want to disable the tap-as-click (after all, I have buttons for clicks too). I open up "Mouse and Touchpad" and on the Touchpad tab I check "Disable touchpad when typing" and UNcheck "Enable mouse clicks with touchpad". This does not achieve anything. The only piece of code I had which worked at all was to completely disable the touchpad by removing the driver - but that is no use since I WANT the mousing ability, just not the tap. In fact, even that would be good if I could still use the little blue stick thing and the other buttons - but it disabled them too. Tried installing touchpad indicator but it didn't seem to want to install. There were suggestions to put stuff into /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d so I edited 50-synaptics.conf and added the line Option "TapButton1" "0" But it didn't work and I'm not surprised since the place, syntax and values were all a guess really... • Exchange Transport Service Started but not working

  Good day, Here is the problem : We are hosting a Microsoft Exchange Server. Everything working fine until recently, where the mail transport seems to go wrong. We almost have to restart the service every morning. The thing is that the transport service is started, but the mail are not delivered to the users and senders to our server get a delayed delivery notification. When we restart the service, all the mail is then delivered to the users and we're good to go for a day or two. Things I've noticed : The store service is growing to around 6 Gb of used RAM, and the w3wp.exe service is hanging around 700mb RAM. Is there a way to schedule a restart of the transport role every 4 hours or something while I'm solving the issue so I don't have to worry when I leave for the week-end? And most of all...does anyone have any idea on how to solve this issue? Thanks, Philippe

  I am seeing a lot of requests where users are trying to request PhPMyAdmin directory on my web-server and I would like to put an end to it. They try a few different directories like PhpMyAdmin-2.10 or just PhpMyAdmin or just PhpMyAdmin-2.09 Would Apache Re-write rule be the best thing to re0direct them to a blackhole that bans their IP from accessing the IP again? Or I could simply create these directories and put in a javascript redirect to black-hole them as well. Thoughts on a good solution are appreciated.

• OpenWrt logging: how to find out "wifi deauthentication"

  If someone starts to use the wifi, i can see that with logread: Jan 23 21:04:47 router daemon.info hostapd: wlan0: STA XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX IEEE 802.11: authenticated But how can i see, that he/she's disconnecting? Theres no "bla-bla deauthenticated bla" line in logread, or even a thing that points to that someone get's disconnected.. I tried to google: http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/uci/system But it doesn't writes about loglevel. Can anyone help me find out, how to find out that someone disconnects it's wifi from the router? • Get rid of Vista security warning

  I found this question. The question exactly matches my problem, but the solution doesn't work. In the Properties window, I see "Security: This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer. ((Unblock))". When I click Unblock and Apply, the Security section disappears. But when I go to run it again, I still get the security warning. If I right-click and choose Properties on the exact same thing, the Security section is back, offering me the chance to Unblock it again. So unblock seems exactly as useless as the "Always ask" checkbox. Anyone seen this before? How do you really Unblock an app that Vista doesn't want to let you Unblock?

• WP7 &ndash; Oh, You Wanted to Develop On Your New Phone? That&rsquo;ll Cost Ya!

  Had an interesting Twitter convo today about WP7 development. Question was raised on how to use a WP7 device as the deployment target from within VS.NET. Thinking that this would be an *obvious* question, I replied that you need to set the right value in one of the drop lists in the IDE… I did this, hooked up my device, then tried to run my app, just as a final test that it was as easy as I thought it would be. It wasn’t. So first, your phone can’t be locked, so make sure you unlock it. Also, don’t kill the Zune software when you notice it automagically started – its needed for VS.NET to deploy to your device. Finally, you need to register your device for development. Aiden Caine has a great article on what you need to do for this, but in a nutshell you need to launch the Windows Phone Developer Registration program found in the Windows Phone Developer Tools folder. Now, here’s the catch to all of this: You must have a Windows Phone AppHub account. As in paid account. That’s right – to do development on your actual device, you need to have a $99 ($120 in Canada) AppHub developer membership. Now, I get this – if Microsoft didn’t put this restriction, then they’d be back in Mobile 6.x land where anyone could install whatever app to whoever, whenever, and without any standards being upheld. This is the same thing that Apple does with their marketplace, its not something unprecedented. But, it is something that will be new to the majority of Microsoft developers that have lived without application restrictions for years. • Add a Cache Clearing Button to Firefox

  While emptying your browser’s cache may not be something that you need to worry with often or at all there are times when clearing it can be helpful. The Empty Cache Button extension lets you have instant on-demand cache clearing in Firefox. Some reasons why you might want or need to clear your browser’s cache: Clear out older (or out of date) versions of images, etc. from your favorite websites Free up disk space Clearing the cache may help fix browser behavior issues Help protect privacy (i.e. images, etc. displayed within a personal account) Before For our example we loaded three webpages in order to add content to our browser’s cache. Using the “CacheViewer” we were able to easily see the contents of our browser’s cache after the webpages finished loading. What if you need to clear your cache immediately without restarting your browser (if the options are set to empty the cache on browser exit)? Note: CacheViewer is available via a separate extension and can be found here. Empty Cache Button in Action Once you install the extension all that you need to do is right click on any of your browser’s toolbars and select “Customise”. Drag the “Toolbar Button” to an appropriate location in your browser’s UI and you are ready to go. To clear your browser’s cache simply click the button…that is all there is to it. When the cache is empty you will see this small message window appear in the lower right corner of your “Desktop”. Opening up the “CacheViewer” again shows that everything has been cleared out. Terrific! Conclusion If you ever find yourself needing to clear your browser’s cache immediately then the Empty Cache Button extension provides an easy way to do so without restarting your browser (if the options are set to empty the cache on browser exit). • Bingbot seems to be adding "ForceRecrawl: 0" to URLs when crawling my sites

  I'm seeing this in the iis-logs of two websites that I maintain: GET /an/existing/page/on/my/site+ForceRecrawl:+0 - 80 - 207.46.195.105 HTTP/1.1 Mozilla/5.0+(compatible;+bingbot/2.0;++http://www.bing.com/bingbot.htm) I get about one or two of these per day from these IP addresses: 207.46.195.105, 65.52.110.190.. an more, all belonging to msnbot-ip.search.msn.com Probably Microsoft has a bug in their crawler? Any way, doing a search on "ForceRecrawl: 0" in major search engines comes up with a bunch of random sites. Doing the search on StackOverflow or here gave no results (to my amazement). Am I the only one seeing this? I first noticed these on the 9th of this month, and I'm seeing them pass almost daily since... Another thing that I think is crazy, is that the URL http://www.bing.com/bingbot.htm redirects to mail.live.com (hotmail). Currently I'm returning 404's but I'm considering to catch these, strip the trailing " ForceRecrawl: 0" and process as if it were a legitimate url. Could anyone shed some light on this? Could it have to do with some configuration or so in Bing's Webmaster Tools?

• Win7-Server2008 RDP connection hangs on "Securing Remote Connection" for 20-30 seconds

  I have a problem that googling has turned up nothing, except this question on experts exchange which I borrowed most of the text from. :) When I connect via Remote Desktop to a new Windows 2008 R2 server it takes 20-30s to get past the "Securing Remote Connection" message during the login. If the password is wrong, it does this every time you attempt a login (ie its not a one time thing). However, after a successful login attempt the following logins to the same server goes faster. Most servers runs on VMware here, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

• Variable parsing with Bash and wget

  I'm attempting to use wget in a simple bash script to grab a jpeg image from an Axis camera. This script outputs a file named JPEGOUT, instead of the desired output, which should be a timestamp jpeg (ex: 201209292040.jpg) . Changing the variable in the wget statement from JPEGOUT to $JPEGOUT makes wget fail with "wget: missing URL" error. The weird thing is wget parses the $IP vairable correctly. No luck on the output file name. I've tried single quotes, double quotes, parenthesis: all to no luck. Here's the script !/bin/bash IP=$1 JPEGOUT= date +%Y%m%d%H%M.jpg wget -O JPEGOUT http://$IP/axis-cgi/jpg/image.cgi?resolution=640x480&compression=25 Any ideas on how to get the output file name to parse correctly?

• Restart Fibre channel controller after blade bootup IBM HS bladecentre

  I have a remote system that needs to resume on startup. If the system is simply powered on then the blades boot before the SAN is online and then the only thing you can do is restart the systems. Is it possible to restart the fibre channel controller? That way I could have a system restart the controller after boot, connect to the SAN and then restart all servers requiring SAN information? Please note that I'm not a sys admin, just shooting for ideas to get a clean startup to work, apologies if my terminology is wrong.

  I'm amazed this question haven't been asked here. There are many discussions about it out there and even a way to remove the blue glow. Of course I've already filled my complain with apple... But, is there a way to have the old expose on Snow Leopard? Or maybe a mix of both. The only thing I like on the new one is viewing minimized windows, but not always. So I'd like better been able to tweak it a little bit, but just having the old expose would be fine.

• Accessing the output of a Bash pipe with 'read'

  I'm trying to pipe some data from a Bash pipe into a Bash variable using the read command, like this: $ echo "Alexander the Grape" | read quot $ echo $quot $ But quot is empty. Some Googling revealed that this is not a bug; it's an intended feature of Bash. (Section E5 in the FAQ.) But when I tried the same thing in zsh, it worked. (Ditto for ksh.) Is there any way to make this work in Bash? I really don't want to have to type: $ quot=$(echo "Alexander the Grape") Especially for long commands.

• Microsoft Test Manager error in displaying test steps caused by malware

  Sometimes the tool is blamed for errors which are not the fault of the tool – this is one such story.  It was however, not so easy to get to the bottom of it, so I hope sharing this story can help some others. One of our test developers started to get this message inside the test steps part of a test case in the MTM. saying “Could not load file or assembly ‘0 bytes from System, Version=4.0.0.0,……..” The same error came up inside Visual Studio when we opened a test case there. Then we noted a similar error on another piece of software – this error: A System.BadImageFormatException, and same message as above, but just for framework 2.0. We found this  description which pointed to a malware problem (See bottom of that post), that is a fake anti-spyware program called “Additional Guard”.  We checked the computer in question using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware tool.  It found and cleaned out 753 registry keys!!  After this cleanup operation the error was gone.  This is a great tool !  The “Additional Guard” program had been inadvertently installed, and then uninstalled afterwards, but the corrupted keys were of course not removed.  We also noted that this computer had full corporate virus scanning and malware protection, but still this nasty little thing still slipped through.   I'm using SketchUp 8.0.15158. My sketch has weird regions/lines in it that I can't explain or get rid of. I've redrawn almost the whole thing and the lines persist! See here, highlighted in yellow: These dotted lines only show up when I triple-click the back face to select the whole object. Here's what the sketch looks like without selections: What are these lines and how can I get rid of them? They are causing weird issues that I can't seem to get around.

  Sinatra is a Ruby DSL for building web applications. It is distinguished from its peers by its minimalism. It is a ruby-based view engine that uses significant white space to avoid having to close tags. A hello world web page in haml might look like: %html %head %title Hello World %body %div Hello World You see how the structure is communicated using indentation instead of opening and closing tags. It makes views more concise and easier to read. Based on my syntax highlighter for Gherkin I have started to build a sinatra web application that publishes syntax highlighted gherkin feature files. I have found that there is a need to have features online so that customers can access them, and so that they can be linked to project management tools like Jira, Mingle, trac etc. The first thing I want my application to be able to do is display a list of the features that it knows about. This will happen when a user requests the root of the application. Here is my sinatra handler: get '/' do feature_service = Finding::FeatureService.new(Finding::FeatureFileFinder.new, Finding::FeatureReader.new) @features = feature_service.features(settings.feature_path, settings.feature_extensions) haml :index end The handler and the view are in the same scope so the @features variable will be available in the view. • How do I get KLIPS or NETKEY on 11.10 server?

  I'm attempting to run OpenSWAN on my Ubuntu11.10 server. All I've done so far is install openswan from the package manager and attempt to set up conf files. However, IPSec support seems to be broken, thus OpenSWAN can't do it's thing. • Windows 7 won't recognize backup set can I script extracting the files in some other way?

  The Windows 7 Backup/Restore created multiple backup sets and I was able to restore the oldest version, but not the most recent, which is not seen by the application. I do see all of the zip files and there are hundreds in later versions. Is there a way to extract each of these correctly outside of the regular restoration method? Perhaps scripting an extract of each day one after another? further clarifying The backup files were all made to an external drive. The original computer died completely, power supply, drives everything. I am trying to reconstruct as much as possible and the only backup set recognized is 6 months older. This was recovered over a new install, but unzipping thousands of zip files is not really a simple unzip copy project as the original paths are not a simple thing to reconstruct.

• AutoVue at the Oracle Asset Lifecycle Management Summit

  I recently had the opportunity to attend and present the integration between AutoVue and Primavera P6 during the Oracle ALM Summit, which was held in March at Redwood Shores, on Oracle Headquarters grounds. The ALM Summit brought together over 300 Oracle maintenance practitioners who endured the foggy and rainy San Francisco weather to attend the 4th edition of this Oracle-driven conference. Attendees have roles in maintenance management and IT. Following a general session, Ralph Rio from ARC Advisory Group provided a very interesting keynote session discussing Asset Management directions, both in the short and long run. An interesting point that Ralph raised is that most organizations have done a good job at improving performance at the design / build, operate and maintain and portfolio management phases by leveraging solutions like Asset Lifecycle Management and Project & Portfolio management solutions; however, there seem to be room for improvement in between those phases, when information flows from one group to the other, during the data handover phase or when time comes to update / modify drawings to reflect the reality of physical assets. This is where AutoVue comes into play. By integrating with enterprise applications like content management systems, asset lifecycle management applications and project management solutions, AutoVue can be a real-process enabler, streamlining information flows from concept/design to decommissioning and ensuring that all project stakeholders have access to asset information and engineering data throughout the asset lifecycle. AutoVue's built-in digital annotation capabilities allows maintenance workers and technicians to report changes in configuration and visually capture the delta between as-built and as-maintained versions of asset documents. This information can then be easily handed over to engineers who can identify changes and incorporate these modifications into the drawings during the next round of document revisions. PPL Power Generation, an electric utilities headquarted in Allentown, Pennsylvania discussed this usage of AutoVue during an interesting Webcast around AutoVue's role in the Utilities space. After the keynote sessions, participants broke off into product-centric tracks around Oracle's Asset Lifecycle Management solutions (E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, and JD Edwards). The second day of the conference was the occasion for us to present the integration between AutoVue and Primavera P6 to the Maintenance Summit audience. The presentation was a great success and generated much discussion with partners and customers during breaks. • Making Google Talk messages appear on all logged in clients

  We're using Google Talk as our unofficial-official chat client around the office at work. One thing that poses a big problem almost every day is the fact that Google Talk only sends a message to the clients that you last used. Even though you may be logged into GTalk on 3 different machines, if you start talking on one machine, that becomes your "active" machine, and if you go to another machine, you will still only get messages on the last active machine. Is there a way that you can force Google Talk to send messages to ALL logged in clients, regardless of which client you are actively using? That way, you don't miss any messages during the time between when you get up from the active machine and then make the new client "active".

• Sendmail background process sometimes processes queue, but sendmail -q always works

  I'm using sendmail version 8.14.4 on Fedora 15 to send email. My Rails app uses delayed_job to queue up emails. Messages will queue up in /var/spool/mqueue as expected, but don't always get processed. I can see the messages and sendmail is definitely running in the background. Restarting the process does nothing. However, when I issue the sendmail -q command, sendmail gets to work and starts sending. The really odd thing is that this behavior only occurs sometimes. Other times message queue up and are delivered as expected. I've tried tweaking various sendmail configs to reduce the time between queue processing (for example, adding define('confMIN_QUEUE_AGE', '0')dnl to /etc/mail/sendmail.mc), but nothing seems to do the trick. Any ideas what might be the root cause?

  I need to protect a certain folder within a web application of mine from access from outside of an defined IP range. With O'Reilly's Tomcat Tips I figured that: <Context path="/path/to/secret_files" ...> <Valve className="org.apache.catalina.valves.RemoteAddrValve" allow="127.0.0.1" deny=""/> </Context> Is the way to go? I'm not that much into tomcat configuration so I'm dazzled a little as to where to put these restrictions. Do I put this Within my web.xml or is this a thing I need to add to some general tomcat conf file?

• Introducing the Oracle MDM Blog - Why All MDM Solutions Aren't Equal

  Welcome to the Oracle MDM Blog.  Dave Butler, Tony Ouk, and myself - Ken Pulverman, will be bringing you news and information from the world of MDM at Oracle.  Dave is our resident expert with more than 30 years of experience in data and information management. Tony has deep expertise in our Exadata product line which provides a strong hardware synergy with MDM.  I come from Siebel Systems where I helped found the team that built our integration product line and then our Universal Customer Master with is part of our MDM offering at Oracle. I thought I'd hit the ground running with a topic we are going to want to continue to bend your ear about.  We had a recent meeting with Ford Goodman, our head of MDM commercial sales in the US and he was very fired up about and important topic.  He's irked that all MDM solutions get painted with the same brush even though they aren't the same at all. There are companies out there trying to represent frameworks and toolkits as out of the box solutions.  They give you the pleasure (read pain) of doing things like developing your own multi-application data model, building your own web services, or creating your own APIs.  Huh?  What gets sold as flexibility in reality is a barrier to ever going live.  At Siebel Systems we obsessed over the notion of a customer.  Our data model took over 10 years to perfect as defining a customer is a very complex task indeed.  There are divisions, subsidiaries, branches, acquisitions, sites etc., etc., etc..  You'll want to do your homework, but trust me - you aren't going to want to take the time or resource to build these canonical data structures yourself.  And what about APIs?  Again, it sounds flexible.  In reality it's a lot of work. Our DNA at Oracle is to reduce the cost of information technology so we pre-integrate our technology with all of our major applications and pre-build integrations and connectors for all the major systems you work with.  This is tedious work that requires detailed knowledge of the interfaces of all the applications involved.  It is also version specific as the interface features and technology are always changing.  We have a substantial organization to manage this complexity so you don't have to.  Suffice to say, we'd like to help our customers peel back the rhetoric of companies that fly the MDM flag without a real offering that you can quickly benefit from.
