• Best Upper Bound & Best Lower Bound of an Algorithm

  I am studying for a final exam and I came past a question I had on an earlier test. The questions asks us to find the minimum value in an unsorted array of integers. We must provide the best upper bound and the best lower bound that you can for the problem in the worst case. First, in such an example, the upper and lower bound are the same (hence, we can talk in terms of Big-Theta). In the worst case, we would have to go through the whole list as the minimum value would be at the end of the list. Therefore, the answer is Big-Theta(n). Is this a correct & good explanation?

• Got an idea for an application, but part of it is patented, any suggestions?

  Hi there, so I've been working on developing an idea for an application that I think has the potential to be successful, however after some initial research I've discovered that at least part of my ideas are covered by a patent out there, the patent in particular is held by a really large company (I don't want to give away specifics for fear I'd draw their attention for sure). I'm debating a few options: 1) Develop patents around my ideas that don't conflict and maybe approach the company in question for a license exchange 2) Just approach them for a license outright 3) Just develop around it anyways and hope for the best :-p What have other people done in these situations? Are companies generally willing to grant patent licenses? Are they willing to grant them at reasonable prices? Thoughts?

• Mixing Objective-C and C++: Game Loop Parts

  I'm trying to write all of my game in C++ except for drawing and game loop timing. Those parts are going to be in Objective-C for iOS. Right now, I have ViewController handling the update cycle, but I want to create a GameModel class that ViewController could update. I want GameModel to be in C++. I know how to integrate these two classes. My problem is how to have these two parts interact with the drawing and image loading. GameModel will keep track of a list of children of type GameObject. These GameObjects update every frame, and then need to pass position and visibility data to whatever class or method will handle drawing. I feel like I'm answering my own question now (talking it out helps) but would it be a good idea to put all of the visible game objects into an array at the end of the update method, return it, and use that to update graphics inside ViewController?

• Quickly, syntax error: media_grid.show()

  i run the app and get this error. the little arrow points to the 'd', dont know what that means. plus i had the same error just before but on this line: from quickly.widgets.dictionary grid import DictionaryGrid the arrow pointed to the 'd' in grid as well. then i changed it to this: from quickly.widgets.dictionary_grid import DictionaryGrid i added a '_' in the middle. and now i have the syntax error in the question.   It's commonly known that premium domains with one or two relevant keywords may help us improve our rankings in SERPS. But would it be possible that an english premium domain, for example gold.com (no, it's not mine) also helps to drive more non-english traffic (I'm talking about non-english pages ob)? Trying to make my question clear: Let's suppose that I have an english premium domain with a page like this: gold dot com/post/123/gold-is-yellow And decide to have a spanish, portuguese or french version of the site with pages like: gold dot com/es/post/123/el-oro-es-amarillo gold dot com/pt/post/123/o-ouro-e-amarelo gold dot com/fr/post/123/fsdfsdfsdf The fact that my english domain is a premium one and highly relevant for english terms, will also help me to achieve good rankings for non-english searched terms like: oro (spanish) or ouro (portuguese)?

• make qt programs look good under XFCE?

  I use xfce. My problem is - some programs look nice and some sort of ugly. AFAIK this is because XFCE is gtk and most programs use gtk theme, but some programs use qt and thus don't use gtk themes (rocket science right there). So - my question is - how can I apply some theme to these qt programs? Can I download some qt theme and drop into ~/.themes? would that work? Qt programs don't have to look absolutely the same as gtk ones - I don't care about that. But I want them at least not to look so dam ugly.:) thanks !

Similiar game : Untangled flash game I have made an untangled game almost to full completion of logic. But, when two lines intersect , I need those intersected or 'tangled' lines to show a different color; red. It would be really kind of you people if you could suggest an algorithm with / without math for detecting line segment collisions.   While discussing a question about virtual functions on Stack Overflow, I wondered whether there was any official naming for pure (abstract) and non-pure virtual functions. I always relied on wikipedia for my information, which states that pure and non-pure virtual functions are the general term. Unfortunately, the article doesn't back it up with a origin or references. To quote Jon Skeet's answer to my reply that pure and non-pure are the general term used: @Steven: Hmm... possibly, but I've only ever seen it in the context of C++ before. I suspect anyone talking about them is likely to have a C++ background :) Did the terms originate from C++, or were they first defined or implemented in a earlier language, and are they the 'official' scientific terms?

What is application domain? SDLC? My hope is to become a software engineer one day (OK, to be honest, more than that. I am following final year of my Bsc(Hons) in computing and I have completed a foreign diploma, majoring software engineering - Java technologies. I have a website which is called let's say www.website1.com on different hosting provider(siteground) I have www.website2.com Now,www.website1.com is the old website and the boss wants .. IF someone clicks on www.website1.com/user/content/1, he/she should be redirected to www.website2.com/user/content/1 ,but the url should REMAIN www.website1.com/user/content/1 and the same thing for all the pages. • Advice for good web server development setup.

  A month or so ago I created my first LAMP stack and implemented a simple web site that exercised each letter in that acronym. However my development setup was much less than ideal. I don't really have a local test server, but instead I was writing all of my CGI scripts in vim while ssh'ed into the remote machine as root. Now I intend to start more serious development. Question: What is a good setup so that development goes as easily as possible? I would like to understand what is available to me along the lines of an IDE, subversion (or alternatives), uploading and downloading content, and just best practices. I'm pretty new at all of this. Also, feel free to point me at good websites. There's plenty of websites, but only people who are already heavily developing web content are able to quickly determine if they are good websites.

  We made on our webpage https://www.1point618.com a transition to ssl and now we using nearly entirely ajax to load the content. Therefore all urls of existing pages have changed. We used the 301 redirect as recommended, also we have implemented google's specification that the webpage is still crawl-able. We thought that maybe it would last a month that we have the same ranking in google's search results, but still google's search results are much worse than before these changes. Most of the content (artist profiles) isn't indexed anymore. For example of the submitted sitemap only 3 of around 450 urls are indexed. Before almost all urls were indexed. My question is now: Does google's ajax crawling work together with ssl? (It looks like it would work, cause of the access log file.)

  There are lots of "lo: Disabled Privacy Extensions" in var/log/messages . I googled and find it is ipv6 releated, so I tried to disable ipv6. I added the following lines to /etc/sysctl.conf net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6=1 net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6=1 net.ipv6.conf.lo.disable_ipv6=1 and blacklist ipv6 to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf after that, I restarted the network by /etc/init.d/networking restart . My question is: The ip addr still shows inet6 address attached to eth0 in forms like inet6 fe80::212:79ff:fecf:edaf/64 scope link Does it means my ipv6 not disabled?

• libgdx spite position relative to body

  Apologies if this is a reiteration, as I couldn't find another discussion of this over the past couple days. Issue: I'm using libgdx and box2d, and I'm currently updating the sprite's position to the body's current position every render call. Using a debugRenderer to see the bodies, I see that there is fairly noticeable lag between the movement/position of the body and the sprite that is being moved relative to it. Question: Is this lag normal, possibly to perform collisions ahead of time? If not, should I be manipulating/relating the positions differently? Thanks in advance! [Solution] This was a coding error on my part. Pointed out by a good reply below, I was updating the position of the sprite relative to the body and then stepping the physics. Thus never actually setting the sprite to the body's CURRENT position. Thanks!

• Byobu Split Screens attaching to same session

  On a brand new install of Precise, after installing byobu, I'm facing the following behaviour: ie. all internal splits on byobu (using Ctrl+F2) will just attach to the same screen session. What I type on the left is reflected on the right. The solutions on this question while on the same problem do not help me out. I've tried the following: byobu-disable both inside and outside the byobu session byobu new-session byobu shell just runs a new simple screen session as far as I can figure it out. This does not include terminal splits, so it does not help me. byobu -S screen-name lets me create two separate byobu sessions, but split screens lead to duplicates in both.
