• Workaround for the Mono PrivateFontCollection.AddFontFile bug

  When I call the PrivateFontCollection.AddFontFile method in Mono.net It always returns a standard font-family. This bug has already been reported on several websites, but as far as I know without a way to solve it. The bug itself isn't fixed in the Mono-libraries yet. Is there any workaround for it? EDIT: As a reaction on henchman's answer I will post the code: PrivateFontCollection pfc = new PrivateFontCollection(); pfc.AddFontFile("myFontFamily.ttf"); myFontFamily = pfc.Families[0x00]; Font myFont = new Font(myFontFamily,14.0f); I know this code will work fine on the Microsoft.Net framework, but when executing on Mono, it just gives a standard font-family (I think it is Arial) with the name of myFontFamily.ttf

Scenario 1: Price changes in a time period EffectiveDate ExpiryDate Price 2009-01-01 2009-01-31 800$ 2009-02-01 Null 900$ So, if the price changes to 910$ on 2009-02-15, then the system should automatically update the expiry date on the previous effective price to 2009-02-14, to keep it consistent. Scenario 2: No price specified between 2009-02-01 to 2009-02-28 EffectiveDate ExpiryDate Price 2009-01-01 2009-01-31 800$ 2009-03-01 Null 900$ So, if new price is specified for 2009-02-15 onwards , then the system should automatically set the expiry date on the record to be inserted to 2009-02-28, because already a record effective from 2009-03-01 exists. Please suggest an effective way to handle these scenarios to model my framework, or are there any frameworks around that can do this . Thanks

  Hi, This is a conceptual question involving Hadoop/HDFS. Lets say you have a file containing 1 billion lines. And for the sake of simplicity, lets consider that each line is of the form <k,v> where k is the offset of the line from the beginning and value is the content of the line. Now, when we say that we want to run N map tasks, does the framework split the input file into N splits and run each map task on that split? or do we have to write a partitioning function that does the N splits and run each map task on the split generated? All i want to know is, whether the splits are done internally or do we have to split the data manually? • UIScrollView resizes when a UIViewController is pushed in UINavigationController. Why?

  Hi! When I push a UIViewController within a UINavigationController, the UIScrollView in the view changes dimensions. Now even I am trying to resize the UIScrollView. It wont simply resize. It maintains the framework dimensions. Any idea why this would be happening. Example: My NIB has a view which has a scrollview with dimensions (320, 430) now when I push the UIViewController associated with the view the scrollview still shows dimensions has 320, 430, but is drawn much smaller then 320,430 Any suggestions in this regard.

I am looking for the following functionality: Ability to have users sign up for different plans (Gold, Premium etc) Ability to have users upgrade / downgrade to and from plans Ability to hook this up to a Payment processor Ability to have a credit based system (User buys x credits for $y) as an alternative to plans in (1) Most of this functionality (if not all) is supported by a large number of websites which makes me think I can leverage on an existing framework instead of re-inventing the wheel. • How to stop the Bottle webserver when started from subprocess

  Hello all, I would like to embed the great Bottle web framework into a small application (1st target is Windows OS). This app starts the bottle webserver thanks to the subprocess module. import subprocess p = subprocess.Popen('python websrv.py') The bottle app is quite simple @route("/") def index(): return template('index') run(reloader=True) It starts the default webserver into a Windows console. All seems Ok except the fact that I must press Ctrl-C to close the bottle webserver. I would like that the master app terminates the webserver when it shutdowns. I can't find a way to do that (p.terminate() doesn't work in this case unfortunately) Any idea? Thanks in advance

• How do I dynamically tell a .NET MVC application which datasource to point to?

  I'm beginning a port of an existing ColdFusion application to .NET MVC and one of the first issues I'm running into is that in ColdFusion we use the fact that you can define multiple datasources and access them in a dynamic way so that a particular user can be pointed at a particular database. To give an example, I might have two databases, Foo and Bar which each have a table called Locations which store locations particular to that database. The databases are guaranteed to have the same tables, so that's not a concern. In ColdFusion, you can easily dynamically point a user towards a particular datasource because it's just a string which is configured via the ColdFusion administrator (or you could programatically modify an XML file). So the question is how to do this in .NET? And specifically, I think I'd really like to use the Entity framework to leverage the ORM support it'll offer to perform operations on the data in the database, but I'm not sure how to do that (hopefully it's possible). Any thoughts?

• Some problem running NUnit

  I have NUnit installed at this directory. C:\Program Files\NUnit 2.5.5\bin\net-2.0 When I try to run my unit test (mut.dll) in some random directory. I get the following error. I have to copy the mut.dll under the NUnit directory in order to run it. ProcessModel: Default DomainUsage: Single Execution Runtime: net-2.0 Could not load file or assembly 'nunit.framework, Version=2.5.5.10112, Culture=n eutral, PublicKeyToken=96d09a1eb7f44a77' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. What's wrong? Is there anything that I have to configure to run NUNit under any directory?

• FileNotFound Exception when using TestDriven.NET and NUnit

  I'm Writing a simple pong game in C# and XNA 4.0 to learn unit testing. The tools used are TestDriven.NET and NUnit, all newest versions. The problem is, if I test the code with VS2010 internal debugger, everything runs fine, but when I use "Run Test(s)" from menu, the application chokes with error: Test 'WindowsGame1.Game1.TestGameMenu' failed: Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.ContentLoadException : Error loading "SpaceBackground". File not found. ----> System.IO.FileNotFoundException : Error loading "Content\SpaceBackground.xnb". File not found. (some more below...) So it stops when the first textre is going to be loaded. • Problem with IE using 960.gs

  I'm using the 960.gs CSS framework on a site and have hit problems almost instantly with IE (7, though I assume 6 is no better). <html> <head> <link rel="stylesheet" href="design/reset.css" /> <link rel="stylesheet" href="design/960.css" /> <link rel="stylesheet" href="design/text.css" /> </head> <body> <div class="container_12">abc</div> </body> </html> Given this HTML above (the CSS is just the files bundled with 960), Firefox and Chrome centre the grid, whereas IE pushes it to the left. I've used 960 before without any issues, so I think I must just be doing something really stupid. Can anyone help?

  Hello! I am learning Qooxdoo framework and I am trying to make it work with a small Django web service. • How To Aggregate API Data?

  Hi, I have a system that connects to 2 popular APIs. I need to aggregate the data from each into a unified result that can then be paginated. The scope of the project means that the system could end up supporting 10's of APIs. Each API imposes a max limit of 50 results per request. What is the best way of aggregating this data so that it is reliable i.e ordered, no duplicates etc I am using CakePHP framework on a LAMP environment, however, I think this question relates to all programming languages. My approach so far is to query the search API of each provider and then populate a MySQL table. From this the results are ordered, paginated etc. However, my concern is performance: API communication, parsing, inserting and then reading all in one execution. Am I missing something, does anyone have any other ideas? I'm sure this is a common problem with many alternative solutions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Paul

• ESRI frameworks: java vs javascript

  I'm about to develop a web mapping application with ESRI Products like ArcGIS Server and Image Server. I can't find a good comparison between the Java Web ADF and the Javascript Framework. They're of course different because one is a full environment and the other is only client side but it's much more concise and the step to start is minimal. Another problem is that the Java Web ADF is not compatible with our current application server (JBoss 4.2.2) and require an old 4.0.2 version. Someone out there has experience that can help me? • jquery noConflict not working in IE8 only

  I have a website using the prootype framework and I am looking to use a jquery plugin. Everything works just not in IE8. It works in ie7 which amazes me. • How to create Server-side Progress indicator in Javascript

  Hey Guys, I want to create a section in my site, where a user has a few simple update buttons. Each of these update buttons will be going to the server, and will do a long crunching behind the scene. While the server crunches data, I want the user to have a some kind of progress indicator, like progress bar or textual percentage. I'm using jQuery as my javascript library, and CodeIgniter (PHP) as the server-side framework, if it's important... What I was thinking about is using PHP's flush() function to report progress status to jQuery, but I'm not sure that jQuery's ajax functions are reading the output before it's complete... So any advice/explanation would be useful and helpful! Thanks :)

  I recently ran across this great article by Chad Perry entitled "DIY-DI" or "Do-It-Yourself Dependency Injection". I'm in a position where I'm not yet ready to use a IoC framework, but I want to head in that direction. It seems like DIY-DI is a good first step. However, after reading the article, I'm still a little confused about object creation. Here's a simple example: Using manual constructor dependency injection (not DIY-DI), this is how one must construct a Hotel object: PowerGrid powerGrid; // only one in the entire application WaterSupply waterSupply; // only one in the entire application Staff staff; Rooms rooms; Hotel hotel(staff, rooms, powerGrid, waterSupply); Creating all of these dependency objects makes it difficult to construct the Hotel object in isolation, which means that writing unit tests for Hotel will be difficult. Does using DIY-DI make it easier? What advantage does DIY-DI provide over manual constructor dependency injection?

  I recently had an issue after upgrading my .net framework to 4.0 from 3.5, I did this because in 4.0 the SMTPClient finally sends a QUIT command to the SMTP server.   I want my Food class to be able to test whenever it is equal to another class. I will later use it against a List, and I want to use its List.Contains() method. Should I implement IEquatable or just override Object.Equals()? From MSDN: This method determines equality by using the default equality comparer, as defined by the object's implementation of the IEquatable.Equals method for T (the type of values in the list). So my next question is: which functions/classes of the .NET framework make use of Object.Equals()? Should I use it in the first place? Thanks
