  • Why didn't 12.04 install?

    Ok, so I've installed Ubuntu many times on my computer.. Normally on the same partition, and WIndows would always delete Ubuntu(I don't know how.. it just happens) if i go away from keyboard during boot and it chooses Windows automatically because I took to long. So i tried to reinstall again, but after the fifth time it wouldn't let me, and told me to check "wubi-12.04-rev266.log". It took a while to find, but when i found it, I had no idea what any of it meant, as I'm no programmer.I first tried this the day Precise Pangolin came out. SO skip ahead 2.5 months, when I finally found this file, and i then got the idea of making a new partition to install Ubuntu on, but I used wubi, like I always did. It didn't look like it would f anything up, so I did it. it went through all the downloads, extracting, etc. Which took about 40 minutes total, then ended with an error message saying to check "wubi-12.04-rev266.log". i did.   • SmartAssembly Support: How to change the maps folder

    If you've set up SmartAssembly to store error reports in a SQL Server database, you'll also have specified a folder for the map files that are used to de-obfuscate error reports (see Figure 1). Whilst you can change the database easily enough you can't change the map folder path via the UI - if you click on it, it'll just open the folder in Explorer - but never fear, you can change it manually and fortunately it's not that difficult. (If you want to get to these settings click the Tools > Options link on the left-hand side of the SmartAssembly main window.)   Figure 1. Error reports database settings in SmartAssembly. The folder path is actually stored in the database, so you just need to open up SQL Server Management Studio, connect to the SQL Server where your error reports database is stored, then open a new query on the SmartAssembly database by right-clicking on it in the Object Explorer, then clicking New Query (see figure 2).     Figure 2. Now execute the following SQL query in the new query window: SELECT * FROM dbo.Information You should find that you get a result set rather like that shown in figure 3. All I need to do to change this is execute the following SQL: UPDATE dbo.Information SET MapFolderNetworkPath = '\\UNCPATHTONEWFOLDER' WHERE MapFolderNetworkPath = '\\dev-ltbart\SAMaps' This will change the map folder path to whatever I supply in the SET clause. Once you've done this, you can verify the change by executing the following again: SELECT * FROM dbo.Information You should find the result set contains the new path you've set.

  • SharePoint and COMException (0x80004005): Cannot complete this action

    I ran into a small issue today working on a deployment.  We were moving a custom ASP.NET control from my development environment into a SharePoint layout page on a staging environment .  I was expecting some minor issues to arise since I had developed the control in an ASP.NET website project, but after getting everything moved over we got an obscure COMException error the that looked like this: Cannot complete this action. Please try again. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: Cannot complete this action. [COMException (0x80004005): Cannot complete this action. .Lengthy stack trace goes here. Everything in the custom control was built using managed code, so we weren't sure why a COMException would suddenly appear. The control made use of an ITemplate to define its UI, so there was a lot of markup and binding code inside the template. As such, we started taking chunks of the template out of the layout page and eventually the error went away.  It was being caused by a section of code where we were calling a custom utility method inside some binding code: <%# WebUtility.FormatDecimal(.) %> Solution: It turns out that we were missing an Assembly and Import directive at the top of the page to let the page know where to find this method.  After adding these to the page, the error went away and everything worked great.  So a COMException (0x80004005) Cannot complete this action error is just SharePoint's friendly way of letting you know you're missing an assembly or imports reference.

  • Issue with gpg agent in Ubuntu 12.04 after installing gnome3 shell

    I just did a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04. Initially things were working. But after I installed some software, the 'gpg agent' is unresponsive. I suspect it has something to do with upgrades that I downloaded from the gnome 3 ppa. When I try to sign a package, it terminates with: gpg: problem with the agent - disabling agent use debsign: gpg error occurred! Aborting.... debuild: fatal error at line 1271: running debsign failed The GPG gui tool (called "Passwords and Keys" or seahorse) isn't starting anymore either. When I click it, it tries to start and then gives up and dies after a couple of seconds. I am not sure where to look for log files of gpg agent.   • Installing SharePoint 2013 on Windows 2012- standalone installation

    In this article, I am going to share my experience while installing SharePoint 2013 on Windows 2012. This was the first time I tried SharePoint 2013. So I thought sharing the same will benefit somebody who would like to install SharePoint 2013 as a standalone installation. Standalone installation is meant for evaluation/development purposes. For production environments, you need to follow the best practices and create required service accounts. Microsoft has published the deployment guide for SharePoint 2013, you can download this from the below link. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30384 Since this is for development environment, I am not going to create any service account, I logged in to Windows 2012 as an administrator and just placed my installation DVD on the drive. When I run the setup from the DVD, the below splash screen appears. This reflects the new UI changes happening with all Microsoft based applications; the interface matches the metro style applications (Windows 8 style). As you can see the options are same as that of the SharePoint 2010 installation screen. Click on the “install software prerequisites” link to get all the prerequisites get installed. You need a valid internet connection to do this. Clicking on the install software prerequisites will bring the following dialog. Click Next, you will see the terms and conditions. Select I accept check box and click Next. The installation will start immediately. For any reason, if you stop the installation and start it later, the product preparation tool will check whether a particular component is installed and if yes, then the installation of that particular component will be skipped. If you do not have internet connection, you will face the download error as follows. At any point of failure, the error log will be available for you to review. If all OK, you will reach the below dialog, this means some components will be installed once the PC is rebooted. Be noted that the clicking on finish will not ask you for further confirmation. So make sure to save all your work before clicking on finish button. Once the server is restarted, the product preparation tool will start automatically and you will see the following dialog. Now go to the SharePoint 2013 splash page and click on “Install SharePoint Server” link. You need to enter the product key here. Enter the product key as you received and click continue. Select the Checkbox for the license agreement and click on continue button. Now you need to select the installation type. Select Stand-alone and click on “Install Now” button. A dialog will pop up that updates you with the process and progress. The installation took around 15-20 minutes with 2 GB or Ram installed in the server, seems fair. Once the installation is over, you will see the following Dialog. Make sure you select the Run the products and configuration wizard. If you miss to select the check box, you can find the products and configuration wizard from the start tiles. The products and configuration wizard will start. If you get any dialog saying some of the services will be stopped, you just accept it. Since we selected standalone installation, it will not ask for any user input, as it already knows the database to be configured. Once the configuration is over without any problems you will see the configuration successful message. Also you can find the link to central administration on the Start Screen.     Troubleshooting During my first setup process, I got the below error. System.ArgumentException: The SDDL string contains an invalid sid or a sid that cannot be translated. Parameter name: sddlForm at System.Security.AccessControl.RawSecurityDescriptor.BinaryFormFromSddlForm(String sddlForm) at System.Security.AccessControl.RawSecurityDescriptor..ctor(String sddlForm) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Win32.SPNetApi32.CreateShareSecurityDescriptor(String[] readNames, String[] changeNames, String[] fullControlNames, String& sddl) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Win32.SPNetApi32.CreateFileShare(String name, String description, String path) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPServer.CreateFileShare(String name, String description, String path) at Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.AnalyticsAdministration.CreateAnalyticsUNCShare(String dirParentLocation, String shareName) at Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.AnalyticsAdministration.ProvisionAnalyticsShare(SearchServiceApplication serviceApplication) ………………………………………… ………………………………………… The configuration wizard displayed the error as below. The error occurred in step 8 of the configuration wizard and by the time the central administration is already provisioned. So from the start, I was able to open the central administration website, but the search service application was showing as error. I found a good blog that specifies the reason for error. http://kbdump.com/sharepoint2013-standalone-config-error-create-sample-data/ The workaround specified in the blog works fine. I think SharePoint must be provisioning Search using the Network Service account, so instead of giving permission to everyone, you could try giving permission to Network Service account(I didn’t try this yet, buy you could try and post your feedback here). In production environment you will have specific accounts that have access rights as recommended by Microsoft guidelines. Installation of SharePoint 2013 is pretty straight forward.     I've done my searching and can't find an answer to THIS specific issue. I have my minidlna set up and running - but it's not really done properly. First off, when I open the server on my bluray player, all of my movies are listed twice - when they are certainly not saved on my external twice. Second, when I open the server - rather than reading "Movies" "TV" "Music", etc - It just mashes all of my movies, tv, and some other folders all together with no real organization. I never had this problem when I had my Windows set up, so I know it's something configured improperly more-so than my external drive giving me gruff.   • Schedule Auto Send & Receive in Microsoft Outlook

    If you use Outlook as your email client, you might want to schedule how often it checks for new messages. Today we show you how to schedule how often auto send/receive occurs. If you’re busy during the day and need to keep up with your emails, you might want want Outlook to check for new messages every few minutes. Here we’ll show how to schedule it in Office 2010, 2007, and 2003 for a busy inbox where you want to keep on top of your important emails. Outlook 2010 To schedule Auto Send/Receive in Outlook 2010, click on the File tab then Options. The Outlook Options window opens…click on Advanced and scroll down to Send and receive and click on the Send/Receive button. In the Send/Receive Groups window under Setting for group “All Accounts” check the box Schedule an automatic send/receive every…minutes. It is set to 30 minutes by default and you can change the minutes to whatever you want it to be. If you’re busy and want to keep up with your messages you can go as low as every one minute. You can also get to the Send/Receive groups by selecting Send/Receive tab on the Ribbon and then Define Send/Receive Groups.   • Wordpress: Problem installing on dedicated windows server 2008/IIS7

    I'm having trouble with installing Wordpress on a dedicated Microsoft Windows Web Server 2008 R2. I've installed Wordpress Version 2.9.2 from Web platform installer 3.0. After installation when I try to access wordpress, either from ~/index.php or ~/wp-admin/install.php I get the error: HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error File monitoring is enabled for a file which could not be found Modul: FastCgiModule Notification: ExecuteRequestHandler Handler: PHP52_via_FastCGI Error Code: 0x80070003 I have both .Net 2.0 and .Net 4.0 installed. Adding a "phpinfo.php" gives me the same error. The application pool in IIS7 that's used for the website is: "No Managed Code" and set to "Integrated" in "Managed Pipeline Mode". I've tried to reboot the machine. What's more can I try?

    I have Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS installed on a VMware machine on Windows 7 host.   • How do I install GRUB on a RAID system installation?

    I'm trying to setup and install Ubuntu on a RAID 1 setup. I have two disks, sdb and sdc. I've been following this guide https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SoftwareRAID which more or less works for getting everything set up and Ubuntu installed. The problem is at the end of the installation, it tries to install GRUB. By default it tries my "first disk", which gives a "fatal error". I've tried installing it on a specific partion, e.g. sdb1 as well as RAID devices, e.g. md0, md1, etc.. Nothing seems to work. Edit: The actual error is "Unable to install GRUB in /dev/sdb Executing 'grub-install '/dev/sdb' failed. This is a fatal error." Then I'm taken back to the main install menu. If I choose "Install the GRUB boot loader on a hard disk" option, I can pick the partition, but entering sdb2 or md1 gives the same error. So I went ahead an just didn't install GRUB, which means now I presumably have a working Ubuntu installation, but I can't boot it. I've tried booting from the LiveCD to install GRUB, but I can't chroot into my system because it doesn't seem to recognize that my disk is a Linux disk. There's an error about it being a RAID partition. So basically I would really like to know how you know to which device to install GRUB at installation, or at the very least, how to install it on to my system now. I suppose I should also mention that sda is a Windows 7 installation that I would like to keep around and be able to access at boot. Thanks for any help.

    I am using a plugin DLL that I created in Visual C++ Express 2010 on windows 7 64 bit Ultimate Edition. The DLL functions properly on the machine that it was originally created on. The problem is that the DLL is not functioning in the Unity3d Editor on another machine and giving an error that basically states that the DLL is missing some of its dependencies. The target machine is running Windows 7 Home 64 bit (if this is relevant) Results from the error log of Dependency Walker: Error: The Side-by-Side configuration information for "c:\users\dewayne\desktop\shared\vrpnplugin\unityplugin\build\release\OPTITRACKPLUGIN.DLL" contains errors. The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail (14001).     When I open Reporting Services Configuration Manager on my server, an error message appears that says: Reporting Services Configuration Manager An unknown error has occurred in the WMI Provider. Error Code 800706B3 This error appears before I can even attempt to connect to an SSRS instance. In addition to this problem, I'm not able to connect to my SSRS instance via SSMS on my desktop. When I attempt to connect, I get the following error message: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. (mscorlib) Additional information: The operation could not be completed. (WinMgmt) Information about my environment: Server: Win Server 2K3 x64, SQL 2005 x64 SP3 Build 9.0.4053 Desktop: Windows 7 Enterprise x64 Steps I have already taken: I have installed the latest service pack on my server and workstation. I do not see any errors in my event logs.
