  • What HTTP redirect status should I use to link offsite?

    While randomly browsing my website via Google, I noticed that it was showing up remote redirects as local files. Now this can be both good and bad, but I'm wondering how can I fix this so it doesn't happen? I'm currently using PHP and header('Location: ... which sends a 302 redirect. Looking over the list of HTTP status codes, I'd take a guess that I should be using 303 redirects to redirect offsite. Is anyone able to help me here, and either confirm/deny this, or tell me what I should be doing instead? Obviously, due to me not being able to tell Google to reindex my site on command, there's issues with being able to test this myself...

    I am a student, 17 years of age and wanting to access all of my files at greatest ease. i would like to have a system like this: Computer A, B and C are the computers on which I work and to which the files should be available. Server A is located in my room and I can install Ubuntu on it. What is the goal? I want to edit files on computer A (e.g.) and computer A should update the file on my server, afterwards the server should update the files on computer B and C. (The same goes for editing files on computer B, afterwards the server has to update the files on A and C.) How am I able to set-up a network like this? I understand one of JIRA's strengths to be the customized workflows that can be created for a project.   • Netbook partitioning scheme suggestions

    I got a new Asus EEE PC 1015PEM with 2GB RAM and a 250GB HD. After playing with the netbook edition a little, I would like to install the desktop edition I'm used to. In addition to ubunto partition(s), I would like to have one separate partition for data (documents, music, etc.), so I could try other OSs in the future without losing the data. What partition scheme would you recommend? I usually like to let the installation do it by itself, but when I try to that I can only use the entire disk, so I don't get the desired data partition. I wish there was a way to see the recommended default partitioning scheme, then just tweak it a bit to fit your needs (instead of building one from scratch). So, how would you recommend I partition my HD? Please be specific since I never manually partitioned before. Thanks!

  • Is gettext appropriate for internationalizing user help documentation?

    On my project, we have po files to internationalize/translate various labels, error messages, button-text etc. We also have separate po files for the entirety of our help documentation, which is included in the product. Is this an appropriate use of gettext - putting entire documents in po files as opposed to just labels and messages? The format has been made all the more complicated because sometimes (for tooltips or "what's this" icons) only a small part of the help doc is needed, resulting in single phrases/paragraphs being entries in the po file, which are then concatenated together when the user views the help... making the actual act of translation challenging. Is there a better way to internationalize end user help documentation?

    How do I assign custom icons to folders, as well as the default folders Desktop, Downloads, Music, etc.? I know that one way is to assign the properties of folders, but I want to assign icons in the same way that are assigned the default folders, so the custom icons will also appear in the Nautilus bookmarks. I've also seen this question custom icon in "Places" menu <<, but that is not what I seek. UPDATE My main intention is this: I want the markers to display custom icons like the dolphin. I know it's possible, because the folder "Desktop", "Documents", "Music" has its own custom icons in bookmarks. How?

  • Why do some opensouce libraries lack comments?

    I don't know if this happens to most Opensource libraries, but many of I know and use (for example OpenSSL, Webkit, ...) they all lack comments, or contain very few comments. Not to mention their very few documents, it is hard to read their source code. We can hardly understand what a member variable means, or what this function does. This seems to be against coding standard practice Why is that? How can people collaborate to these opensource with very few comments?

The result of the get function appears to be successful because the value of textStatus (in the following code block) is "success".     I've searched Google, but only found information on how to setup a feedburner for wordpress or other blogging services. I've also searched stackoverflow, but not found the right information. I'm creating a website, for which I want to have an RSS. Feedburner seems to be a good, free option - so I'd like to use that. When I go to feedburner, using my google account, it says the website I want to claim is invalid. And it's not clear how to make it valid. I also have no experience with RSS (and really websites in general), so I'm not sure where to go from here. What are the steps I need to take, starting from scratch, to add an RSS feed (with feedburner) to a website?

  • Ubuntu 12.04 LTS x86_64 sound artifacts when scrolling with firefox

    I've been using Ubuntu since the 10.04 LTS version and i have a sound problem that still remain in my fresh install of the 12.04 LTS AMD64 version. This install has been performed by formatting the / partition and my documents were kept safe in the separated /home partition. The problem : When i listen to a audio or video source while browsing the web with Firefox, I have some sound artifacts when i'm scrolling and stops when i'm not doing it. This happens when i'm doing X11 related actions too, such as switching between virtuals desktops. Computer configuration of my laptop : - Ubuntu 12.04 LTS AMD64 - Plantronic USB Headphones - Intel HDA Audio sound card (laptop) with SigmaTel STAC9200 chip - AlsaMixer v 1.0.25 - Nvidia GeForce 7950 GTX with Nvidia 295.40 driver Any advices are welcome here :) Note : This is my first post on AskUbuntu.

    Hi, I'm baffled. I'm trying to find suitable colors for a logo that would look similar across most monitors/screens. I know it's near impossible, but how does one end up with the color palette that new Google logo and Facebook "blue" uses for example? I've a monitor that has been calibrated, and a few laptop screens that have default settings. Yet both the Google logo and facebook's look similar (although they aren't using colors restricted to the web safe 216 palette. Any ideas? thoughts? Thanks

    For my site I am using a login system much like the one on SO. A user can login with his Facebook, Google (Gmail openID), Twitter account. This question is not about specific oAuth or openID implementations. The question is how to know if the same user logins with different providers. Let me give an example: Bobo comes to site logins to site by clicking on "Login with Facebook". Because this is his first visit we create an account for him. Later Bobo comes to the site. This time he clicks on "Login with Google". So how do I know if this is the same person so I can add this provider to his account instead of creating a new (and duplicate) account. Can I trust solely on email? What is the best way to handle this. How does SO do it? Any ideas?

    Through work I have an Visual Studio Premium with MSDN subscription that I love. However, my biggest disappointment of the last 12 months was discovering that our 2nd from the top level subscription was not enough to get me Sketchflow! This is, most decidedly, NOT SHINY, and I am borderline distraught! What are my options? Upgrading to an Ultimate subscription for Sketchflow is out of the question. Am I forced, then, to stay with Blend 3 or Purchase Blend 4 seperately? If this is not a question I should ask here please inform and I'll delete. I just tend to default to SO for all questions that Google can't answer and Google did not answer this one.

    I am new to Microsoft Detours. I have installed it to trace the system calls a process makes. I run the following commands which I got from the web syelogd.exe /q C:\Users\xxx\Desktop\log.txt withdll.exe /d:traceapi.dll C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe I get the log file. The problem is I don't fully understand what is happening here. How does detours work? How does it trace the system calls? Also I don't know how to read the output in log.txt. Here is one line in log.txt 20101221060413329 2912 50.60: traceapi: 001 GetCurrentThreadId() Finally I want to get the stack trace of the process. How can I get that?

    Hey, Since week I use ToirtoiseSVN and AnkhSVN and GoogleCode and sourceforge.net as my project hosting. For me it's frustrating to fill all this forms before create next project. So I start thinking about mu own repository hosting... Can I use simple file hosting etc. and install there software like use Google or SourceForge to have my own SVN Server ? My point is to have independent repository in internet without all this uselessly UI interface which give me Google and SF to administrate my version control. I don't want to take advantage of already exist hosting like GoogleCode etc - I want to be independent from them! ;) Or maybe it's other way to do my own repository hosting and FREE ;) Please don't tell me that I'm at mercy of commercial hosting... :/ p.s.   • "Reverse" encryption? - EncFS the other way around?

    Currently I'm using EncFS to encrypt my directory "confidential" to ".encconfidential" and sync that encrypted directory using an online service (e.g. Dropbox, UbuntuOne etc). However my entire disk is already LUKS encrypted, so the double encryption takes a toll on performance. I wonder is there an "inverted" EncFS option? An unencrypted directory gets mounted and in the mounted directory you only see encrypted files. So I could work with the unencrypted documents while the sync tool sees and read/writes the encrypted files only.
