• Where to begin with IPv6 [closed]

  I am fairly familiar with setting-up IPv4 networks for bigger server configurations, only now I wanted to start familiarizing myself with doing the same for IPv6. I have been Googling for the second night in a row for things like: IPv6 network design, IPv6 for dummies, etc. So far most things you find go on about why IPv6 and the amazing amount of numbers that we have now. Yet I am looking for practical stuff, for example: what would be a good way to assign IP-number, as I understand it DHCP shouldn't be the default course of action. How do other assignment methods work with DNS configuration? what would be a good or standard way of dividing the network in to sub-nets? (database, application, web servers spread over multiple domains/applications and some what intertwined) In short I would like to find good resources with practical information books, webpages, etc.

• Serving Meteor on main domain and Apache on subdomain independently

  I'm running a Meteor server on my Ubuntu server. But problems arise when I try to have Apache serving a subdomain on the same server. main.domain.com - Meteor sub.domain.com - Apache Meteor is running on port 80. I have previously tried to have Meteor run on port 3000 and served in reverse proxy with Nginx, but Meteor started to behave badly (tcp/websockets issues) and I spent too many evenings and nights to persist for my own sake. So I reverted my setup to have Meteor being the main server (app works fine), and then install Apache the serve my subdomain. The problem is I cannot have Apache serve on port 80 too since it seems to overrun my Meteor server. From experience, I try to stay away from reverse-proxying Meteor, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to get Apache to dedicate itself to my subdomain and without overwhelming "everything port 80" on my server. How can I have both services behave with each other in this kind of setup?

• Permission settings for apache2 web content directories with several users?

  Hi there. I've got a Debian VPS set up with a LAMP-stack. My apache2 instance runs on the user account 'www-data'. In addition to the root account and the service accounts I have several user accounts belonging to friends, family and myself that includes FTP-access. This is to allow the users to drop files to the root of their domain which is located in their home folder. I am having issues with setting the correct permissions so that Apache is able to serve the content ("403 Forbidden"). I could just do a 'chmod -R 755 *' on the entire www-directory for each domain, but from what I gather that's not a good idea. Here's an example of the structure: apache2 is run by 'www-data' User 'john' has this home folder structure /home/john/domains/somedomain.com/www /home/john/domains/sub.somedomain.com/www How can I keep things safe while still allowing users to upload content via FTP, and allow for file-uploads in lets say Wordpress?

  How would I design an API to hide the asynchronous nature of AJAX and HTTP requests, or basically delay it to provide a fluid interface. I am guessing that a well designed API like this should work like a query builder (think ORMs) where each function call builds the query (HTTP URL in this case), until it hits a looping function such as each/map/etc., the HTTP call is made and the passed in function becomes the callback. An easy development route would be to make each AJAX call synchronous, but that's probably not the best solution. I am interested in figuring out a way to make it asynchronous, and still hide the asynchronous nature of AJAX.

However, also browsing to https://subdomain.example.com:10443/ (with DNS set) shows me the same pages (after SSL certificate warning). I would have expected the directive ServerName example.com:10443 to reject all connection attempts to other server names. How can I tell the virtual host not to serve requests for URLs other than the top-level one?

• UCMA 3.0 How to build a list of recipients and then broadcast an IM call to those recipients

  I am developing an application using UCMA 3.0 that will run as a service and send out periodic 'broadcasts' in the form of Instant Message calls. I have been using the book "Professional Unified Communications Development with Microsoft Lync Server 2010" and have everything provisioned fine and am able to establish an application endpoint. I am stuck on two aspects though. 1) How to get a list of all users of Lync? Everything the UCMA can do is centered on a single user. For example it allows me to retrieve all contacts/groups present on a given users 'contact list' but does not provide any means to query for a list of available contacts that could be added to one of those contact lists. On the MSDN forum I found this post which leads me to think my best bet is simply to query AD directly. 2) What is the best way to actually send a broadcast style IM? My working premise is to attempt something like what I've found in this code example (specifically the public void SendIM() method). So, get a list of recipients from AD, (looping on each on to check current presence?), and then use Automation to make the IM call for each recipient in the collection. Does that make sense? Do I need to check presence of the recipient or do I just optimistically make the IM calls irregardless of their current presence status? Can anyone point me to some working code demonstrating sending an IM broadcast? You would think this is probably one of the most common use cases however the SDK samples do not cover it. Thanks in advance.

• application/x-httpd-php opening rather than pages?

  For some reason, no matter what page I try to open (.php, .html, .html, etc) my server trys to save it, rather than displaying the page. However, I do get the "It Works!" page for the main domain, it's only when I try to display a page on a sub-directory that it fails. I researched the problem, and I placed a .htaccess file in the directory of the pages that I'm attempting open with the code: AddType application/x-httpd-php5 .php .html .htm AddHandler applicaton/x-httpd-php5 .php .htm .html .my I'm running the latest version of apache and php5 which is installed as the "php5" module.   Im using c# .net windows form application. I have created a database which has many tables. In one of the tables I have entered data. In this table I have 4 columns named key, name,age,value. Here the name "key" of the first column is a key word. Now I am trying to get these column names into a combo box. I am unable to get the name "key".   Hi folks! Let's say I have around 10 hg repositories cloned in a parent directory (let's call it "parent"). Is there any way I can invoke a mercurial command like hg status on all of the sub-directories rather than performing the laborious act of cding into each directory and then invoking hg status. JFTR, I did try out the good old xargs but for some reason it fails to work. The commands which I used are: find . -maxdepth 1 -type d -print | xargs -t "hg status" and ls | xargs -t "hg status" Any help would be appreciated, TIA. -Sasuke

• Linq to SQL case sensitivity causing problems

  I've seen this question, but that's asking for case-insensitive comparisons when the database is case-sensitive. I'm having a problem with the exact opposite. I'm using SQL Server 2005, my database collation is set to Latin1_General_CI_AS. I've got a table, "User", like this: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[User] ( [Id] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [Name] [nvarchar](max) NOT NULL, CONSTRAINT [PK_Example] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [Id] ASC ) ) And I'm using the following code to populate it: string[] names = new[] { "Bob", "bob", "BoB" }; using (MyDataContext dataContext = new AppCompatDataContext()) { foreach (var name in names) { string s = name; if (dataContext.Users.SingleOrDefault(u => u.Name == s) == null) dataContext.Users.InsertOnSubmit(new User { Name = name }); } dataContext.SubmitChanges(); } When I run this the first time, I end up with "Bob", "bob" and "BoB" in the table. When I run it again, I get an InvalidOperationException: "Sequence contains more than one element", because the query against the database returns all 3 rows, and... SELECT * FROM [User] WHERE Name = 'bob' ... is case-insensitive. That is: when I'm inserting rows, Linq to SQL appears to use C# case-sensitive comparisons. When I query later, Linq to SQL uses SQL Server case-insensitive comparisons. I'd like the initial insert to use case-insensitive comparisons, but when I change the code as follows... if (dataContext.Users.SingleOrDefault(u => u.Name.Equals(s, StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase) ) == null) ... I get a NotSupportedException: "Method 'Boolean Equals(System.String, System.StringComparison)' has no supported translation to SQL." Question: how do I get the initial insert to be case-insensitive or, more precisely, match the collation of the column in the database? Update: This doesn't appear to be my problem. My problem appears to be that SingleOrDefault doesn't actually look at the pending inserts at all.

  Hi, How does one handle ties when ranking results in a mysql query? I've simplified the table names and columns in this example, but it should illustrate my problem: SET @rank=0; SELECT student_names.students, @rank := @rank +1 AS rank, scores.grades FROM student_names LEFT JOIN scores ON student_names.students = scores.students ORDER BY scores.grades DESC So imagine the the above query produces: Students Rank Grades Al 1 90 Amy 2 90 George 3 78 Bob 4 73 Mary 5 NULL William 6 NULL Even though Al and Amy have the same grade, one is ranked higher than the other. Amy got ripped-off. How can I make it so that Amy and Al have the same ranking, so that they both have a rank of 1. Also, William and Mary didn't take the test. They bagged class and were smoking in the boy's room. They should be tied for last place. The correct ranking should be: Students Rank Grades Al 1 90 Amy 1 90 George 3 78 Bob 4 73 Mary 5 NULL William 5 NULL If anyone has any advice, please let me know. Thank you! -Laxmidi

• jQuery Autocomplete Json Ajax cross browser issue with Google Search Appliance

  I am implementing a jquery autocomplete on a search form and am getting the suggestions from the Google Search Appliance Autocomple suggestions service which returns a result set in json. What I am trying to do is go off to the GSA to get suggestions when the user types something in the search box. The url to get the json suggestions is as follows: http://gsaurl/suggest?q=<query>&max=10&site=default_site&client=default_frontend&access=p&format=rich The json which is returned is as follows: { "query":"re", "results": [ {"name":"red", "type":"suggest"}, {"name":"read", "type":"suggest"}] } The jQuery autocomplete code is as follows: $(#q).autocomplete(searchUrl, { width: 320, dataType: 'json', highlight: false, scroll: true, scrollHeight: 300, parse: function(data) { var array = new Array(); for(var i=0;i<data.results.length;i++) { array[i] = { data: data.results[i], value: data.results[i].name, result: data.results[i].name }; } return array; }, formatItem: function(row) { return row.name; } }); This works in IE but fails in firefox as the data returned in the parse function is null. Any ideas why this would be the case? Workaround I created an aspx page to call the GSA suggest service and to return the json from the suggest service. Using this page as a proxy and setting it as the url in the jQuery autocomplete worked in both IE and FireFox.

  A remote site has about 25 of our 50-ish employees. They have their own AD domain presently (2003) but I want to look at getting them onto the same global domain for ease of access/administration. The remote site has a VPN link but line speeds are very poor. I am already aware of tools like ADMT and have done a few migrations in the past (NT/2003 domains), but this is the first time I have the luxury of designing how this domain is organised. So I'm looking for tips on good AD design; would a remote site be better served as a sub-domain? would this reduce traffic? I am only currently looking at 2003 since only existing machine will be used.

• How to get all active parameters in ASP.NET MVC (2)

  Hi! I was wondering whether there is a way to create an ActionLink or similar, that changes only a few parameters of the actual query, and keeps all the other parameters intact. For example if I'm on an URL like http://example.com/Posts/Index?Page=5&OrderBy=Name&OrderDesc=True I want to change only the Page, or OrderBy parameter and keep all other parameters the same, even those I don't yet know of (like when I want to add a Search parameter or something similar too). The header of my current action looks like this: public ActionResult Index(int? Page, string OrderBy, bool? Desc) and I'm only interested in the values that this controller "eats". I want however that when I extend this action (for example with a string Search parameter) the links should work the same way as before. Here is what I did already: Create a new RouteValueDictionary and fill it with everything from RouteData.Values Problem: This only fills the parameters that are used in the Routing, so all other optional parameters (like Page) to the controller are lost Add everything from HttpContext.Request.QueryString to the previous dictionary This is what I am currently using Problem: It might have some junk stuff, that the Controller didn`t ask for, and it doesn't work if the page was loaded using POST. You also don't have any ModelBindings (but this isn't much of a problem, because we are re-sending everything anyway) Use HttpContext.Request.Params Problem: this has too much junk data which imho one shouldn't add to a RouteValueDictionary that is passed to an ActionLink So the questions: Is there an RVD that has all the data that was passed to the Controller and was used by it? Is this solution good, or are there any caveats I didn't think about (mainly in the context of changing a few query parameters while keeping the others intact)? Is there a way to filter out the "junk" data from the Params object?

• How do I pass a callback function to sqlite3_exec on iOS 5.1?

  I am new to both xcode/iOS/Objective-C and sqlite. I am trying to teach myself the basics - and I would like to use the sqlite3 wrapper "sqlite3_exec" for a select query. For some reason, I can't find a simple example anywhere of someone doing this. Basically, the method has a parameter (the third one) for a callback function: int sqlite3_exec( sqlite3*, /* An open database */ const char *sql, /* SQL to be evaluated */ int (*callback)(void*,int,char**,char**), /* Callback function */ void *, /* 1st argument to callback */ char **errmsg /* Error msg written here */ ); That's fine. I'm no stranger to callbacks. However, I just can't seem to get the syntax down right. I took over one of the view controllers in my iPad (iOS 5.1) xcode (4.3) project, and made the changes shown below: #import "SecondViewController.h" #import "sqlite3.h" #import "AppState.h" @interface SecondViewController () @end @implementation SecondViewController - (int)myCallback:(void *)a_parm argc:(int)argc argv:(char **)argv column:(char **)column { return 0; } - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // Do any additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib. //grab questionnaire names char *sql = "select * from QST2Main order by [Name]"; char *err = nil; sqlite3 *db = [[AppState sharedManager] getgCn]; sqlite3_exec(db, sql, myCallback, nil, &err); } Essentially, I want to run a query when this view first loads, to store some data for later use. But, XCode doesn't like the "myCallback" usage at the bottom there. It says: Undeclared Use of Identifier 'myCallback.' That method is declared in the header file, and I've even tried making it static. Nothing seems to make this error go away. I know I must be doing something fundamentally wrong here, but for the life of me I can't figure out what - I can't even find other code samples in this area that could help me figure out what I'm missing. Communication between Flash and JavaScript is without problems, it is the call back I can't find to work and more frustratingly, should be simple, as no values are not required. So far, this has been hours of scouring the net without a workable end in sight...ahrr. What is a function for this to work? Does anyone know of workable function for callback?? • Numeric Order By In Transact SQL (Ordering As String Instead Of Int)

  I have an issue where I am trying to order a result set by what I believe to be a numberic column in my database. However when I get the result set, It has sorted the column as if it was a string (So alphabetically), instead of sorting it as an int. As an example. I have these numbers, 1 , 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11 When I order by in Transact SQL, I get back : 1, 10, 11, 2, 3, 4, 5 I had the same issue with Datagridview's a while back, And the issue was because of the sorting being done as if it was a string. I assume the same thing is happening here. My full SQL code is : SELECT TOP (12) DATEPART(YEAR, [OrderDate]) AS 'Year', DATEPART(MONTH, [OrderDate]) AS 'Month' , COUNT(OrderRef) AS 'OrderCount' FROM [Order] WHERE [Status] LIKE('PaymentReceived') OR [Status] LIKE ('Shipped') GROUP BY DATEPART(MONTH, [OrderDate]), DATEPART(YEAR, [OrderDate]) ORDER BY DATEPART(YEAR, OrderDate) DESC, DATEPART(MONTH, OrderDate) desc DO NOTE The wrong sorting only happens when I cam calling the function from Visual Studio. • Help with fql.multiQuery

  I'm playing around with the Facebook API's fql.multiQuery method. I'm just using the API Test Console, and trying to get a successful response but can't seem to figure out exactly what it wants. Here's the text I'm entering into the "queries" field: {"tags" : "select subject from photo_tag where subject != 601599551 and pid in ( select pid from photo_tag where subject = 601599551 ) and subject in ( select uid2 from friend where uid1 = 601599551 )", "foo" : "select uid from user where uid = 601599551"} All it'll give me is a queries parameter: array expected. error. I've also tried just about every permutation I could think of involving wrapping the name/query pairs in their own curly braces, adding brackets, adding whitespace, removing whitespace in case it didn't want an associative array (for those watching the edits, I just found out about these wonderful things now... oy), all to no avail. Is there something painfully obvious I'm missing here, or do I need to make like Chuck Norris Jon Skeet and simply will it to do my bidding? Update: A note to anyone finding this question now: The fql.multiquery test console appears to be broken. You can test your query by clicking on the generated url in the test console and manually adding the "queries" parameter into the querystring.

• feedparser fails during script run, but can't reproduce in interactive python console

  It's failing with this when I run eclipse or when I run my script in iPython: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xe2 in position 32: ordinal not in range(128) I don't know why, but when I simply execute the feedparse.parse(url) statement using the same url, there is no error thrown. This is stumping me big time. • [Repost-ish] Impossibly slow queries, Tables indexed, How can I speed it up?

I was told to index the columns; I did. and its still slow (slow as in, i never see the results, both mysql and sqlite freeze up on query). Help would be greatly appreciated. • How to retrieve all occurences of a particular value within a string?

  I'm looking at an excel work-book with potential definitions for a column(upto 135) referenced from an adjacent sheet. E.g. Sheet 1: Col C (values 0-134 defined in Sheet 2 ) Each row in Col C Sheet 1 may have any combination of the values separated by commas. E.g. 0,1,8 Sheet 2 must maintain statistics of the occurence of each value. This is done using COUNTIF. The issue here is that COUNTIF doesn't handle an embedded value too well. When so done, the reference to '1' in the above example won't appear. How can this be done without resorting to a sub-routine?

• Recommendations for screen-capture tool that retains menus and mouse pointer

  There are several screen capture tool questions already on this site, but I think I have a slight tweak to the usual. I'd like a handy screen capture utility that can: Run in Windows 7 Capture a sub-region of the screen Show the current state of the mouse cursor and any active menus I'd like to use it for writing docs that refer to specific application menu items. I like the built-in snipping tool in Windows 7, but the act of using it dismisses my menus, and it doesn't get the mouse cursor either. Do any such tools exist? EDIT: Ahh, I wasn't familiar with the "delayed capture" options of these tools, but they all seem to fit the bill. Thanks!
