• Add JSON support to Rails app

  I am experimenting with Rails and was wondering what's needed to allow/add support for JSON requests? I have a vanilla installation of Rails 2.3.5 and the default scaffolding seem to provide support for HTML & XML requests but not JSON. class EventsController < ApplicationController # GET /events # GET /events.xml def index @events = Event.all respond_to do |format| format.html # index.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @events } end end # GET /events/1 # GET /events/1.xml def show @event = Event.find(params[:id]) respond_to do |format| format.html # show.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @event } end end ... • VB .Net - Reflection: Reflected Method from a loaded Assembly executes before calling method. Why?

  When I am loading an Assembly dynamically, then calling a method from it, I appear to be getting the method from Assembly executing before the code in the method that is calling it. It does not appear to be executing in a Serial manner as I would expect. Can anyone shine some light on why this might be happening. Below is some code to illustrate what I am seeing, the code from the some.dll assembly calls a method named PerformLookup. For testing I put a similar MessageBox type output with "PerformLookup Time: " as the text. • Counting keystrokes and clicks in vb.net

  I'm trying to create an application similar to the site WhatPulse, which will generate an image with my clicks and keystrokes. WhatPulse only updates the image once every 24 hours, so I am going to make an application to keep track of that for me, only with realtime stats. How can I count total keystrokes (outside of the application itself) as well as total clicks, in vb.net? This is for personal use. Thanks for your help!

Externally looks fine but the problem is the numbering, I am getting for the Figures the number 5.2, that is the same number that a Figure I have before (The correct number should be 5.3). However if I try to reference the figures: \ref{fig:fig1}, \ref{fig:fig2} y \ref{fig:fig2} I get: 5.3a, 5.3b y 5.2c The two first right the last one wrong. I have been stuck with this for hours any ideas?. Thans a lot in advance

• permutations gone wrong

  I have written code to implement an algorithm I found on string permutations. What I have is an arraylist of words ( up to 200) and I need to permutate the list in levels of 5. Basically group the string words in fives and permutated them. What I have takes the first 5 words generates the permutations and ignores the rest of the arraylist? Any ideas appreciated. • Feedback on iterating over type-safe enums

  In response to the earlier SO question "Enumerate over an enum in C++", I came up with the following reusable solution that uses type-safe enum idiom. I'm just curious to see the community feedback on my solution. This solution makes use of a static array, which is populated using type-safe enum objects before first use. Iteration over enums is then simply reduced to iteration over the array. • IPC: Communication between Qt4 and MONO processes (on linux)

  I have to connect a Qt4 application to a mono Application. The current proof of concept uses network sockets (which is nice, I can debug using nc on the command line). But I am open to new suggestions. What are my alternatives? Edit: The original application stack is split into two parts: server + client. The client is supposed to show pictures and videos. Since we found that this is not possible in a sane way in Mono, we split the client into two parts: server - client - GUI In the original implementation the client+GUI were the same application. Now client is in C# (running on Mono), and the GUI is Qt4. Rewriting the client in Qt4 is not an option. Right now the communication between the client and the GUI is been done using TCP sockets through localhost. I am looking for better implementations.

This thing of two bytes being passed does not break the decryption because the key keeps "paired" with the following data. The problem is some decrypted character in the conversion is wrong. These chars are all accented letters like à, è, ì but just a few of the overall accented letters. The others are all correctly restored. I guess it could be due to the 256 mod but without it I of course get a chr exception... Thanks for your support

  I would like a little confirmation that I'm doing this correctly. Using rails single table inheritance I have the following models and class method: class PhoneNumber < ActiveRecord::Base def self.qual?(number) klass = self klass.exists?(:phone_number => phone_number) end end class Bubba < PhoneNumber end class Rufus < PhoneNumber end Bubba.qual?("8005551212") Tests pass and everything seems to work properly in rails console. Just wanted to confirm that I'm not headed for future trouble by using self in the superclass PhoneNumber and using that to execute class methods on subclasses from the parent. Is there a better way?

  After researching this online, I've only found solutions that don't apply to my problem, so please bear with me. Code snippet: typedef my_map_t<int const *, float> _test; my_map_t::const_iterator not_found = my_map_t::end(); if (_test.find(&iKeyValue) == not_found) { _test[iKeyValue] = 4 + 5; // not the actual code, but here for simplicity } The compiler complains that there's an ambiguous call to my_map_t::end(). This makes sense, because the only difference is the return type. Output: error C2668: 'std::_Tree<_Traits>::end' : ambiguous call to overloaded function Normally you can disambiguate the call by casting the parameters, but end() has no parameters. Any ideas?

• Scroll an input box to the cursor position in javascript

  I've written a simple JS function that places the cursor at the end of the contents of an input box when it receives focus (the most common action in the box being to append). I haven't checked in IE, but when there is more text than is visible, even moving the cursor to the end of input doesn't scroll the view to the end of input in firefox 3.6. Any idea how to do this? P.S. And no I'm not using JQuery, nor is it an option ;)

• How to get "paster request" to use config host value instead of localhost?

  I'm trying to access my pylons application via cron job to send notifications to my users. The way I'm doing this is by running the application using something like: paster request myconfig.ini /maintenance/do In the actual controller I check for the "paste.command_request" to block public access. Everything works but the only problem is that within the notifications that I send to my users there is a link to their profile and the host is "localhost" which should instead be the domain name of the application. When the notifications are sent from within the served application (say, a user modifies their settings on the site) the notifications have the correct url. I am using mako to render my email tamplates and within the template I am using the "pylons.url" method with "qualified" set to "True". Am I missing something here? Thanks in advance.

• Difference in DLL when compiling on Build Server instead of Dev Machine.

  I have an application that loads user controls into .NET web application. When I compile and test the application locally on my dev machine it works on my machine. The project builds successfully using MSBuild on our build server. However when I deploy the dll generated by MSBuild on the build server I get the following error when the application loads the control: BC30456: 'CreateResourceBasedLiteralControl' is not a member of 'ASP.usercontrols_somecontrol_ascx'. I took a look and compared the dll generated on my machine and compared it(looked at the file size) with the one created by the build server and noticed a difference in the file size. This is confusing considering the code being built locally and on the build server is IDENTICAL. I manually compared each file by hand. So my question is: What is causing this error? What would be different between MSBuild's compilation of the code and what is going on in Visual Studio when compiling the code?
