• Paths when both including and requesting AJAX

  I was wondering if there is a way of making a relative path to the main folder (where the index.php lies) from every file that needs to be included or requested by AJAX. I want to combine both AJAX and PHP include so first time the page loads with PHP, and then to be able to refresh parts of the page with AJAX, but the files are the same and lie in subfolders. I'm having problems with the path and although I can set an absolute path, then I have to change it every time the server changes. I want a relative path to where my project is, but not DOCUMENT_ROOT, because that one doesn't work with aliases. (or do you know how to make it work with aliases? ) Thanks !

• Does the box API require case-sensitive booleans?

  I'm having some issues with the box.com developer API, and it seems that this is due to the API requiring lower-case booleans in request parameters. When I make a call to say, delete a folder, the URI my framework is generating looks like this: (DELETE) https://api.box.com/2.0/folders/1234?recursive=True This doesn't work, and the API throws an error. However, if I manually set the URI to this: (DELETE) https://api.box.com/2.0/folders/1234?recursive=true Everything seems to work just fine. I'd like to confirm that this is indeed the behavior, and if it is, I'd like to request box fix their API!

  I have taken a job selling a customized "online workplace management application." Our clients' businesses work around the application. Our clients track their time (which is how they get paid), finances and work documents through the application we provide and give their clients access to their interests throught the application. Our clients range from 2 users to 500 users. Each user probably processes 200 files per year and generates a fee for each file in the range of $500-$2500 per file. The application has been refined over a period of years and has cost around a million to develop. Does anyone know what range something like this sells for (source code, add-ons such as support and hosting)? I am trying to wrap my head around it as my background is not in software development.

  hi, i have philosophised about the purpose of stack a little bit and after some coding i figured out what is it's strength. The only thing that lies in my stomache is how does it work with functions? I tried to make some easy function for adding two numbers using universal registers but I suppose that's not how does it work in C for example.. where are all the parameters, local variables and where is the result stored? how would you rewrite this to assembler?(how would compiler for C rewrite it?) int function(int a, int &b, int *c){ return a*(b++)+(*c); } i know this example kinda sucks.. but this way i can understand all the possibilities

• What does Apache need to support both mysqli and PDO?

  I'm considering changing some PHP code to use PDO for database access instead of mysqli (because the PDO syntax makes more sense to me and is database-agnostic). To do that, I'd need both methods to work while I'm making the changeover. My problem is this: so far, either one or the other method will crash Apache. Right now I'm using XAMPP in Windows XP, and PHP Version 5.2.8. Mysqli works fine, and so does this: $dbc = new PDO("mysql:host=$hostname;dbname=$dbname", $username, $password); echo 'Connected to database'; $sql = "SELECT * FROM `employee`"; But this line makes Apache crash: $dbc->query($sql); I don't want to redo my entire Apache or XAMPP installation, but I'd like for PDO to work. So I tried updating libmysql.dll from here, as oddvibes recommended here. That made my simple PDO query work, but then mysqli queries crashed Apache. (I also tried the suggestion after that one, to update php_pdo_mysql.dll and php_pdo.dll, to no effect.) Test Case I created this test script to compare PDO vs mysqli. With the old copy of libmysql.dll, it crashes if $use_pdo is true and doesn't if it's false. • php date() stuck

  I am getting the date from my mysql database and that date is correct but when I use the date() function the minute part is stuck a 6 minutes. My mysql is returning 2010-06-15 09:59:18 Then in php I use this code: date('M d,Y H:m A',strtotime($row[4])) ** $row[4] is from my while loop ** When I echo this out I get: Jun 15,2010 9:06 AM I also have tried converting it to unix timestamp in my sql query, does the same thing. I noticed that the hours work and the seconds work but the minutes are stuck at 6. Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on?

• web page db query optimisation

  I am putting together a web page which is quite 'expensive' in terms of Db hits. I dont want to start optimizing at this stage - though with me trying to hit a deadline, I may end up not optimising at all. Currently the page requires 18 (thats right eighteen) hits to the db. I am already using joins, and some of the queries are UNIONed to minimize the trips to the db. My local dev machine can handle this (page is not slow) however, I feel if I release this into the wild, the number of queries will quickly overwhelm my database (mySQL). I could always use memcache or something similar, but I would much rather continue with my other dev work that needs to be completed before the deadline - at least retrieving the page work, its simply a matter of optimization. My question therefore is - is 18 db queries for a single page retrieval completely outrageous - (i.e. I should put everything on hold and optimize the hell of the retrieval logic), or shall I continue as normal, meet the deadline and release on schedule and see what happens?

• Referencing control on one form from another form VB.NET

  My gosh man, why is this so complicated in VB.NET? As you can guess, I'm kind of new to .NET and just want to reference a control on one form from another. Usually I would just do Form.Control.Property but that doesn't work and every example I've found through Google doesn't work for me. It just seems overly complicated with public classes, etc. Is there a more simpler way to do this? I'm ready to throw in the towel and just use a global variable at this point. I have the form containing the control I want to reference, frmGenerate which has a textbox called txtCustomerNo. From this form through a button's click event I want to show another form, frmCustomers, and have that form reference the value in txtCustomerNo. frmCustomers.ShowDialog() It has to be something simple that I'm just not grasping. • Previewing php pages inside Expression Web 3 suddently stopped working

  On a Windows 7 development machine, I have expression web 3, PHP 5 installed I have been using expression web and PHP for a while, and previewing php pages etc on pressing F12 (preview using local server). Suddenly on F12 all PHP pages display as blank, even a phpinfo() file. Standard html pages continue to work correctly on F12. If I place the same page php inside the default website on inetpub and browse using localhost then the phpinfo() file works. So I know that php is installed and configured correctly for IIS. Things I've checked: Gone into site settings in Expression web and confirmed that php is selected and it is pointing to the php executable Reinstalled php Checked iis that the php extension is registered. Copied files to a different machine with expression web and php installed and it works on. The strange thing is that it gives a blank (no errors) page inside expression web, but does work inside inetpub This was working up until recently, then suddenly stopped for no reason.

• Dynamic Button Layout without hard coding positions

  I would like to implement a view (it will actually be going into the footer of a UITableView) that implements 1-3 buttons. I would like the layout of these buttons (and the size of the buttons themselves) to change depending on which ones are showing. An example of almost the exact behavior I would want is at the bottom of the Info screen in the Contacts application when you are looking at a specific contact ("Add to Favorites" disappears when it is clicked, and the other buttons expand to take up the available space in a nice animation). As I'm running through the different layout scenarios, I'm hard coding all these values and I just think... "this is NOT the way I'm supposed to be doing this." It even APPEARS that Interface Builder has some features that may do this for me in the ruler tab, but I'll be darned if I can figure out how they work (if they work) on the phone. Does anyone have any suggestions, or a tutorial online that I could look at to point me in the right direction? Thanks much.

  I want to port an open source program to iPhone, the license prohibited any commercial use of the code. I emailed the author and he sent back an email saying freeware is ok. Of course I cannot (should not) charge anything on top of the code. Still, I want to get compensation for my work on UI design, graphics and integration work. So I wonder: Is donation (via PayPal) OK for my case? Is in-app purchase OK? i.e. the program is free, the user has the option to buy addition theme graphics? Thanks

  Hi guys, I have the following SQL query but it doesn't entirely work because it shows each element more than once. select c.name, c.director, c.title, count(c.title) as numfilms from casting c join casting c1 on c1.name = c.name Group by c.name, c.director, c.title Having count (c.title) > 1 order by numfilms So what it does it shows which actors have made more than 1 film. But unfortunately, this query shows each actor as many times as the number of movies he made. Using distinct doesn't work as actor may have been in different movie with same title and different director.

• Architecture Suggestions/Recommendations for a Web Application with Sub-Apps

  Hello. I’m starting to plan an architecture for a big web application, and I wanted to get suggestions and/or recommendations on where to begin and which technologies and/or frameworks to use. The application will be an Intranet-based web site using Windows authentication, running on IIS and using SQL Server and ASP.NET. It’ll need to be structured as a main/shell application with sub-applications that are “pluggable” based on some configuration settings. The main or shell application is to provide the overall user interface structure – header/footer, dynamically built tabs for each available sub-app, and a content area in which the sub-application will be loaded when the user clicks on the sub-application’s tab. So, on start-up of the main/shell application, configuration information will be queried from a database, and, based on the user and which of the sub-apps are available, the main or shell app would dynamically build tabs (or buttons or something) as a way to access each individual application. On start-up, the content area will be populated with the “home” sub-app. But, clicking on an sub-app tab will cause the content area to be populated with the sub-app corresponding to the tab. For example, we’re going to have a reports application, a display application, and probably a couple other distinct applications. On startup of the main/shell application, after determining who the user is, the main app will query the database to determine which sub-apps the user can use and build out the UI. Then the user can navigate between available sub-apps and do their work in each. Finally, the entire app and all sub-apps need to be a layered design with presentation, service, business, and data access layers, as well as cross-cutting objects for things such as logging, exception handling, etc. Anyway, my questions revolve around where to begin to plan something like this application. What technologies/frameworks would work best in developing a solution for this application? MVC? MVP? WCSF? EF? NHibernate? Enterprise Library? Repository Pattern? Others???? I know all these technologies/frameworks are not used for the same purpose, but knowing which ones to focus on is a little overwhelming. Which ones would be the best choice(s) for a solution? Which ones work well together for an end-to-end design? How would one structure the VS project for something like this? Thanks!

  How do YOU debug a Scala program? I mean YOU as in the person posting the Answer :) Please answer only from personal experience, not from stuff you've heard or read on the Internet. You should not believe everything you read on the Internet, especially tales of complex open-source software configurations that actually work :-) The are many Java tools which claim to support Scala in some way or another, but I have so far struck out in trying to get any one of them to actually let me set a breakpoint in Scala code and step through it. These are big, major open-source IDEs I'm talking about here. The main problem in getting a debugger to work seems to be the "version hell" with fast-changing IDEs, Plug-Ins, JDKs, and the Scala language itself. Hence, the more detailed re-statement of the question is appropriate: What is the exact version number of the IDE, Plug-In, JDK, Scala, and even Operating System, that you are successfully using? • Placeholder containing dynamic table is empty unless I create table twice

  I am dynamically creating a table that contains a textbox in each cell. The table is put in a placeholder control. Everything displays perfectly. The problem is when I go to retrieve the values entered in the cells. I have the code to generate the table in a separate method called CreateTable(). In order for my program to find a table in the placeholder when I go to save, I have to run CreateTable() in a postback event AND in the PageLoad event. If I call CreateTable() in only one of those places and I try to save, it says the placeholder is empty and, therefore, I cannot save the textbox contents. I've tried calling CreateTable() from InitLoad but that doesn't work because it needs to reference values from three static controls: 1 dropdown, 1 listbox, and 1 calendar control, which I don't believe have had their viewstate rendered yet. Anyone have any ideas? It would sure be nice not to have to double the number of database calls just to make this work.

I proceed in two steps: 1- convert grib to netcdf using the commande line function ncl_convert2nc from ncar command language 2- use package ncdf in R to import the netcdf data. I have two problems: 1- I would like to do automatic treatment of many files within R. Can I call ncl_convert2nc within R ? 2- For some particular grib files, the convertion with ncar tool does not work. Is there other ways or trick (other than transcription into netcdf) to read grib files in R ?

• Python Textwrap - forcing 'hard' breaks

  I am trying to use textwrap to format an import file that is quite particular in how it is formatted. Basically, it is as follows (line length shortened for simplicity): abcdef <- Ok line abcdef ghijk <- Note leading space to indicate wrapped line lm Now, I have got code to work as follows: wrapper = TextWrapper(width=80, subsequent_indent=' ', break_long_words=True, break_on_hyphens=False) for l in lines: wrapline=wrapper.wrap(l) This works nearly perfectly, however, the text wrapping code doesn't do a hard break at the 80 character mark, it tries to be smart and break on a space (at approx 20 chars in). I have got round this by replacing all spaces in the string list with a unique character (#), wrapping them and then removing the character, but surely there must be a cleaner way? N.B Any possible answers need to work on Python 2.4 - sorry!

How can I subscribe my viewmodel object to recieve updates in a similiar fasion.
