• One Database Field to Hold Survey Answer

  Skipping the question of whether this is bad design (and the question of why I would want/need to do this), I'm just wondering if my 'math' is right... I have n things that need to be put in order (n is always less than 5): thing1 thing2 thing3 ... and I'd like to store these results in a single integer for thing. My initial thought is that (obviously the code will not look like this): thing = thing1 * 1 + thing2 * 2 + thing3 * 4 + thing5 * 8 will always give me a unique value, and that any value for thing will always translate back to its values for thing1...thingn. Is this correct?

• Is it possible to inspect the contents of a Table Value Parameter via the debugger?

  Does anyone know if it is possible to use the Visual Studio / SQL Server Management Studio debugger to inspect the contents of a Table Value Parameter passed to a stored procedure? To give a trivial example: CREATE TYPE [dbo].[ControllerId] AS TABLE( [id] [nvarchar](max) NOT NULL ) GO CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[test] @controllerData [dbo].[ControllerId] READONLY AS BEGIN SELECT COUNT(*) FROM @controllerData; END DECLARE @SampleData as [dbo].[ControllerId]; INSERT INTO @SampleData ([id]) VALUES ('test'), ('test2'); exec [dbo].[test] @SampleData; Using the above with a break point on the exec statement, I am able to step into the stored procedure without any trouble. The debugger shows that the @controllerData local has a value of '(table)' but I have not found any tool that would allow me to actual view the rows that make up that table.

I have the databinding object 'A' and another object 'B'. public class SomeProxy { public SomeProxy(BindingSource A) { var b = new B(); } } public class B { public int SomePropertyFromA{get;set;} //Some autocalculated propeties, that are based on SomePropertyFromA //I want to reculculate them, when the SomePropertyFromA will be changed } 'B' object culculates some values, based on the property 'a' of the 'A' object. I want to bind property in object 'B' to the same property 'a' in 'A'. It's need to handle on changes of the 'a' property, because some UI controls are binded to 'B'-s properties. How can I do this?   I have a table that looks like the following - Id Reference DateAttribute1 DateAttribute2 1 MMM005 2011-09-11 2012-09-10 2 MMM005 2012-06-13 2012-09-10 3 MMM006 2012-08-22 2012-09-10 4 MMM006 2012-08-22 2012-09-11 I have handle to the id values. I would like to query such that I get the following result Id Reference DateAttribute1 DateAttribute2 2 MMM005 2012-06-13 2012-09-10 4 MMM006 2012-08-22 2012-09-11 I would like my result to be grouped by reference and then 'DateAttribute1' and then 'DateAttribute2' as such - DateAttribute1 has a priority over DateAttribute2 as you can see above in the result. How should I write my query to fetch the results in the above manner? Any solution?

• [R] how do I quickly group the time column in a dataframe into intervals?

  Hi, Assuming in R, I have a data.frame with the first column representing the time (as POSIXct). The rest of the columns (e.g., columns 2) are numeric data. I would like to group time into 3-minute intervals. Each interval will the the average of values that falls into that particular interval. Right now, I have a for-loop that iterates through the time column and generate the interval on the fly. I am wondering if there's a more elegant way to accomplish the same thing? Thanks in advance. • Unit Testing Example, on a class with required fields?

  I'm new to developing Unit test and I can't find an example of how to test an existing class I have. The class has a save method which does an insert or update in the database when the user clicks Save in the UI. But the save method has required fields that need to be populated. And has other fields that do not. So how can I run this test properly? Was trying to write it out.. Give a user When user saves object Then Field1 is required then Field2 is required Then Field3 is required WhenUserSavesObject() object = new object object.field1 IsNot Nothing something like that right? And what about the other fields that are optional? How would I test the save method to make sure it takes all those values properly? Was trying to use BDD but not sure if I should try it or not. Can't find any example of classes with many properties that are needed when calling a test method.

• PHP Session Array Value keeps showing as "Array"

  Hello, When sending data from a form to a second page, the value of the session is always with the name "Array" insteed of the expected number. The data should get displayed in a table, but insteed of example 1, 2, 3 , 4 i get : Array, Array, Array. (A 2-Dimensional Table is used) Is the following code below a proper way to "call" upon the stored values on the 2nd page from the array ? $test1 = $_SESSION["table"][0]; $test2 = $_SESSION["table"][1]; $test3 = $_SESSION["table"][2]; $test4 = $_SESSION["table"][3]; $test5 = $_SESSION["table"][4]; What exactly is this, and how can i fix this? • Github + keep file but dont track changes

  I have a codeigniter framework thats using github. Within this application I have several files that i will want to have in the repo but not track any changes on.. Example is: i deploy a new installation of this framework to a new client, i want the following files to be downloaded (they have default values 'CHANGEME') and i just have to make changes specific to this client IE(database credentials, email address info, custom css styling). // the production config files i want the files but they need to be updated to specific client needs application/config/production/config.php application/config/production/database.php application/config/production/tank_auth.php // index page, defines the environment (production|development) /index.php // all of the css/js cache (keep the folder but not the contents) /assets/cache/* // production user based styling (color, fonts etc) needs to be updated specific to client needs /assets/frontend/css/user/frontend-user.css currently if i run git clone [email protected]:user123/myRepo.git httpdocs and then i edit the files above, all is great.. until i release a hotfix or patch and run git pull. All of my changes are then overwritten.

  I have a trigger function that I only want to fire on certain instances of INSERTS, in this case, if do_backup = true. If it fires in all instances, I get an infinite loop. The logic seems pretty simple to me, and the rest of the function works. But the trigger function does not seem to register my conditional and always runs, even when backup = true. • Assigning a pointer variable to a const int in C++?

  I'm wondering if anyone can explain the following to me: If I write int i = 0; float* pf = i; I get a compile error (gcc 4.2.1): error: invalid conversion from ‘int’ to ‘float*’ Makes sense - they are obviously two completely different types. But if instead I write const int i = 0; float* pf = i; It compiles without error. Why should the 'const' make a difference on the right hand side of the assignment? Isn't part of the idea of the 'const' keyword to be able to enforce type constraints for constant values? Any explanation I have been able to come up with feels kind of bogus. And none of my explanations also explain the fact that const int i = 1; float* pf = i; fails to compile. Can anyone offer an explanation?

I forgot to mention that I want to send an array through post, having all my information regarding all the form values dynamically created by javascript. • New records added to DataGridView aren't displayed

  I have a custom Order class, groups of which are stored in List<Order> and a DataGridView. I think the problem is in my implementation so here's how I'm using it: In the form enclosing DataGridView (as OrdersDataGrid): public partial class MainForm : Form { public static List<Order> Orders; public MainForm() { // code to populate Orders with values, otherwise sets Orders to new List<Order>(); OrdersDataGrid.DataSource = Orders; } Then in another form that adds an Order: // Save event public void Save(object sender, EventArgs e) { Order order = BuildOrder(); // method that constructs an order object from form data MainForm.Orders.Add(order); } From what I can tell from the console this is added successfully. I thought the DataGrid would be updated automatically after this since Orders has changed - is there something I'm missing? The DataGrid accepts the class since it generates columns from the members.

  I do not really know how to explain this in a clear manner. Please see attached image I have a table with 4 different columns, 2 are identical to each other (NAME and QTY). The goal is to compare the differences between the QTY, however, in order to do it. I must: 1. sort the data 2. match the data item by item This is not a big deal with small table but with 10 thousand rows, it takes me a few days to do it. Pleas help me, I appreciate. My logic is: 1. Sorted the first two columns (NAME and QTY) 2. For each value of second two columns (NAME and QTY), check if it match with first two column. If true, the insert the value. 3. For values are not matched, insert to new rows with offset from the rows that are in first two columns but not in second two columns

Obvisously I can't store the relationship in a database and the string passed to the GiveMeAKey method can be any URL. I wonder if there is a way of doing that ?

• [as3] Movieclip.width returns higher value than Movieclip stage on Width.

  I have a Movieclip on stage with nested movieclips inside. All referenced at 0,0. None of the child movieclips load any dynamic content, animate or have Masked Layers. It does have an input textfield in one of the child MCs. The parent MC shows 280 px width, while it returns 313 px with a .width trace. There is no code that alters the .width value of the parent MC at run-time. And the ParentMC on stage is not scaled (it is at 100% width/height). Any pointers, to what could be the reasons for the discrepancy in .width values on stage and on run-time? Its breaking the scaling code that follows.
