  • can't run cucumber scenarios due to test-unit version issue on Rails 2.3.5, Ruby 1.9.1

    I've been trying to follow along in the RSpec book, (I'm new to all of this) and I have what appears to be some kind of versioning issue.   • Adding Core Data to existing iPhone project

    I'd like to add core data to an existing iPhone project, but I still get a lot of compile errors: NSManagedObjectContext undeclared Expected specifier-qualifier-list before 'NSManagedObjectModel' ... I already added the Core Data Framework to the target (right click on my project under "Targets", "Add" - "Existing Frameworks", "CoreData.framework"). My header-file: NSManagedObjectModel *managedObjectModel; NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext; NSPersistentStoreCoordinator *persistentStoreCoordinator; [...] @property (nonatomic, retain, readonly) NSManagedObjectModel *managedObjectModel; @property (nonatomic, retain, readonly) NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext; @property (nonatomic, retain, readonly) NSPersistentStoreCoordinator *persistentStoreCoordinator; What am I missing? Starting a new project is not an option... It is working fine on Chrome, Firefox and Safari. I feel that the issue is because of TinyMCE script inclusion because on commenting the lines that include the tiny_mce.js and the support_page.js, the popup renders with no issues. I am also using the latest TinyMCE release. Please let me know why this is happening and what could be the resolution.

    I have a problem when attempting to serialize class on a server, send it to the client and deserialize is on the destination. On the server I have the following two classes: [XmlRoot("StatusUpdate")] public class GameStatusUpdate { public GameStatusUpdate() {} public GameStatusUpdate(Player[] players, Command command) { this.Players = players; this.Update = command; } [XmlArray("Players")] public Player[] Players { get; set; } [XmlElement("Command")] public Command Update { get; set; } } and [XmlRoot("Player")] public class Player { public Player() {} public Player(PlayerColors color) { Color = color; ... } [XmlAttribute("Color")] public PlayerColors Color { get; set; } [XmlAttribute("X")] public int X { get; set; } [XmlAttribute("Y")] public int Y { get; set; } } (The missing types are all enums).     The story so far: Decided to go with Xapian as search backend because it has all search-engine features I was looking for, knows about Unicode, stemming, has few dependencies and requires no bloated app-server installation on top of it. Tried Django and Haystack (plus xapian-haystack, the backend glue code to tie Haystack to Xapian) because it was advertised on quite some blogs as "working". Did not work. Neither django-haystack nor the xapian-haystack project provide a version combination that actually works together. MASTER from both projects yields an error from Xapian, so it's not stable at all. Haystack 1.0.1 and xapian-haystack 1.0.x/1.1.0 are not API-compatible. Plus, in a minimally working installation of Haystack 1.0.1 and xapian-haystack MASTER, any complex query yields zero results due to errors in either django-haystack or xapian-haystack (I double-verified this), maybe because the unit-tests actually test very simple cases, and no edge-cases at all. Tried Djapian. The source-code is riddled with spelling errors (mind you, in variable names, not comments), documentation is also riddled with ambiguities and outdated information that will never lead to a working installation. Not surprisingly, users rarely ask for features but how to get it working in the first place. Next on the plate: exploring Solr (installing a Java environment plus Tomcat gives me headaches, the machine is RAM- and CPU-constrained), or Lucene (slightly less headaches, but still). Before I proceed spending more time with a solution that might or might not work as advertised, I'd like to know: Did anyone ever get an actual, real-world search solution working in Django? I'm serious. I find it really frustrating reading about "large problems mostly solved", and then realizing that you will never get a working installation from the source-code because, actually, all bloggers dealing with those "mostly solved problems" never went past basic installation and copy-pasting the official tutorials. So here are the requirements: must be able to search for 10-100 terms in one query must handle + (term must be present) and - (term must not be present), AND/OR must handle arbitrary grouping (i.e. parentheses around AND/OR) must allow for Django-ORM filtering before or after fulltext-search (i.e. pre-/post-processing of results with the full set of filters that Django knows about) alternatively, there must be a facility to bulk-fetch the result set and transform it into a QuerySet should be light on the machine, so preferably no humongous JVM and Java-based app-server installation Is there anything out there that does this? I'm not interested in anecdotal evidence, or references to some blog posts that claim it should be working. I'd like to hear from someone who actually has a fully-functional setup working in the real world, under real conditions, with real queries. EDIT: Let me repeat again that I'm not so much interested in anecdotal evidence that someone, somewhere has a somewhat running installation working with unspecified properties. I already went there, I read all the blog posts, mailing lists, I contacted the authors, but when it came to actual implementation of real-world scenarios, nothing ever worked as advertised. Also, and a user below brought that point up as well, considering the TCO of any project, I'm definitely not interested in hearing that someone, somewhere was able to pull it off once a vendor parachuted in an unknown number of specialists to monkey-patch the whole installation with specific domain-knowledge that's documented nowhere. So, please, if you claim you have a working installation that actually satisfies minimum requirements for a full-fledged search (see requirements above), please provide the following so that we can all benefit from a search solution for Django that actually solves the problem: exact Linux distribution, release version, exact release version of Haystack (or equivalent) and release version of search backend, exact release version of the search engine publicly (!) available documentation how to set up all components exactly in the way that your installation was set up such that the minimal requirements above are met. Later I found that there is a bug (or missing functionality?) in maven exec plugin, because of which the application process blocks the maven process. To address this issue, I have encapsulated the invocation of MyApp.java in a shell script and then appended “/dev/null 2&1 &” to spawn a separate background process. Here is the snip (this is just a snip and not the actual one) from runTest.sh: java - DMY_APP_HOME =$2 com.foo.MyApp > /dev/null 2>&1 & Although this solves my issue, is there any other way to do it? Am I missing any argument for exec-maven-plugin?

  • JavaScript source file not loading in IE8 Popup

    I have an issue where the JavaScript source file is loading in popup for IE6, Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera. But the same source file is not loading up in IE8. As a result of this the HTML is not being replaced in the Popup and I am getting an error in IE8 popup saying tinyMCE is not defined I have referred to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2949234/formatting-this-javascript-line and solved issue on all browsers except IE8.     I need tp serialize a group of input elements but I can't for the life of me figure out this simple task.   • IE8 Crashes Strangely on JavaScript Popup

    Hi, I am facing a strange issue after the popup is created onclick. The popup opens up but hangs immediately on IE8 (works fine on all the other browsers including IE6). But on adding the alertbox as show in the JavaScript code, the popup works fine. I am using **https** and not **http** and i feel popup is not able to load the JS file because of SSL.     I'm trying to make just a few minor tweaks to the default template of a checkbox. Now I understand how to make a new template from scratch, but this I do not know. I did manage to (I think?) extract the default template via the method here. Verify that you are not missing an assembly reference and that all referenced assemblies have been built. Now I'm wondering, how can I resolve these errors so that I can actually start working on the template? Is there a better way of going about this? My boss wants a three-state checkbox with a red square instead of green, and he won't take no for an answer.

  • Is JQuery UI meant to work only with Google Chrome??? (How about IE and Firefox??!)

    Hello, I'm using "Jquery UI 1./Dan Wellman/Packt Publishing" to learn JQuery UI. I'm working on the 'Dialog widget' chapiter. After I've completed a series of exercises in order to build a Dialog widget (using Google Chrome), I then tried my work with Internet Explorer and Firefox. The result has been disappointing. Chrome was perfet With Internet Explorer, (1) the title of the Dialog widget did not appear, (2) The location of the dialog widget was not correct (given the position: ["center", "center"]). It was rather offset toward left. With Firefox, the location was respected. However, only the outer container was visible. the content was missing, just a blank container. Also using Option Show:true and Hide:true did only work with Chrome. I wonder now if JQuery UI was meant to be used only with Google Chrome. I just think that I might be missing some directives to make it work with major browsers (as the author claimed in his book). Here's the code.   • XmlException - inserting attribute gives "unexpected token" exception

    Hi, I have an XmlDocument object in C# that I transform, using XslTransform, to html. In the stylesheet I insert an id attribute in a span tag, taking the id from an element in the XmlDocument. Here is the template for the element: <xsl:template match="word"> <span> <xsl:attribute name="id"><xsl:value-of select="@id"></xsl:value-of></xsl:attribute> <xsl:apply-templates/> </span> </xsl:template> But then I want to process the result document as an xhtml document (using the XmlDocument dom). So I'm taking a selected element in the html, creating a range out of it, and try to load the element using XmlLoad(): wordElem.LoadXml(range.htmlText); But this gives me the following exception: "'598' is an unexpected token. The expected token is '"' or '''. Line 1, position 10." And if I move the cursor over the range.htmlText, I see the tags for the element, and the "id" shows without quotes, which confuses me (i.e.SPAN id=598 instead of SPAN id="598"). To confuse the matter further, if I insert a blank space or something like that in the value of the id in the stylesheet, it works fine, i.e.: <span> <xsl:attribute name="id"><xsl:text> </xsl:text> <xsl:value-of select="@id"></xsl:value-of></xsl:attribute> <xsl:apply-templates/> </span> (Notice the whitespace in the xsl:text element). Now if I move the cursor over the range.htmlText, I see an id with quotes as usual in attributes (and as it shows if I open the html file in notepad or something). What is going on here? Why can't I insert an attribute this way and have a result that is acceptable as xhtml for XmlDocument to read? I feel I am missing something fundamental, but all this surprises me, since I do this sort of transformations using xsl:attribute to insert attributes all the time for other types of xsl transformations. Why doesn't XmlDocument accept this value? By the way, it doesn't matter if it is an id attribute. i have tried with the "class" attribute, "style" etc, and also using literal values such as "style" and setting the value to "color:red" and so on. The compiler always complains it is an unvalid token, and does not include quotes for the value unless there is a whitespace or something else in there (linebreaks etc.). I hope I have provided enough information. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Basically, what I want to accomplish is set an id in a span element in html, select a word in a webbrowser control with this document loaded, and get the id attribute out of the selected element. I've accomplished everything, and can actually do what I want, but only if I use regex e.g. to get the attribute value, and I want to be able to use XmlDocument instead to simply get the value out of the attribute directly.   • Temporary "Backup" of SharePoint Content During Feature and Solution Deployment

    I need to decide on a method for storing a subset of the content in a SharePoint site, so that when I delete and recreate certain lists as part of a feature activation, I can re-insert all of this content back where it should belong. I have an idea myself, but I don't know if it's the only method and more importantly, the right method. My client has me creating a SharePoint system for them to communicate with their clients. The business process has maybe 5 stages in it (maybe it's more, I don't even know because they don't tell me everything), and the current system I've written over the past months is maybe 2 stages through. This meets our deadline of completing those systems by Monday next week... but at that point my client is planning on making the site live from that point. In effect, their work with their clients will be running parallel with my work for them. As I complete my own work on a separate test server, I'll push each following stage of the process onto the live server. Scheduled downtimes during non-business times (like a weekend) will be available for me to perform these pushes. Keeping pace so that my development is faster than the actual business process is my own problem and off-topic... so let's get back to the problem I stated at the start of this post. In this system, we have sets of features which will create lists for their associated content types and field types when activated, and delete these lists when the feature is deactivated. Most updates don't need to deactivate and reactivate these features, such as workflow changes, custom actions, custom forms, and similar ilk. But there are some parts which do require this. On my test server, it's okay for me to obliterate lists, but once the site is live and there's real correspondence data, it's absolutely unacceptable to do this. So when I need to implement a new change in functionality, I need to be able to store the currently present data in several lists, deactivate the feature, reactivate the feature, and restore all of this data. Perhaps I have hoist myself by my own petard with the feature system I implemented. Unfortunately, the necessity to later on make several of these "project sites" meant I had to do a lot of my code with the concept of "Can be deployed repeatedly" in mind. My current plan is to run through lists and libraries which will be affected by the particular feature that is to be reset. Files and all of their versions will be saved in a directory on the server. Then, a set of text files will be used to store all of the important field values for the items. This includes a lot of cross-list reference lookups that will need to be maintained, but that's simple enough. Then, I deactivate the feature, deploy the new solution, and reactivate the feature. We upload all of the files in the order specified by their versions and update them with the stored fields for those versions, so that we retain the version structure. As each one is first uploaded, the new ID is picked out, and all relevant lookups in the rest of the files are updated (in some manner that I make sure I don't re-update it later with an incorrect value, of course). After that, we run through all the rest of the items in the order most conducive to keeping the relational data correct. This roughly summarizes what my current plan is. To my advantage, there are no long running workflows in the system that will be affected by this, so there's nothing I will have to worry about making sure nothing is "still running" when I do this stuff. I don't really know all the cons of this approach... I can imagine they're quite hefty. But I'm unsure what other choices I even have, and my searches haven't turned up anything. Is there anyone who can think of a better idea? Or will anyone just tell me that I really have no other choice? Thanks in advance!

    Introduction Hello, let me give you some background before I begin. I started programming when I was 5 or 6 on my dad's PSION II (some primitive BASIC-like language), then I learned more and more, eventually inching my way up to C, C++, Java, PHP, JS, etc. I think I'm a pretty decent coder. I think most people would agree. I'm not a complete social recluse, but I do stuff like write a virtual machine for fun. I've never taken a computer course in college because I've been in and out for the past couple of years and have only been taking core classes; never having been particularly amazing at school, perhaps I'm missing some basic tenet that most learn in CS101. I'm currently reading Coders at Work and this question is based on some ideas I read in there. A Brief (Fictionalized) Example So a certain sunny day I get an idea. I hire a designer and hammer away at some C/C++ code for a couple of months, soon thereafter releasing silvr.com, a website that transmutes lead into silver. Yep, I started my very own start-up and even gave it a clever web 2.0 name with a vowel missing. Mom and dad are proud. I come up with some numbers I should be seeing after 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 12 months and set sail. Obviously, my transmuting server isn't perfect, sometimes it segfaults, sometimes it leaks memory. I fix it and keep truckin'. After all, gdb is my best friend. Eventually, I'm at a position where a very small community of people are happily transmuting lead into silver on a semi-regular basis, but they want to let their friends on MySpace know how many grams of lead they transmuted today. And they want to post images of their lead and silver nuggets on flickr. I'm losing out on potential traffic unless I let them log in with their Yahoo, Google, and Facebook accounts. I've always loved the Unix Philosophy but even after trying to keep the new server source modular and sleek, I loathe having to write one more line of code. It feels that I'm just piling crap on top of other crap. Maybe I'm naive thinking every piece of software can be simple and clever. Maybe it's just a phase.. or is the Unix Philosophy basically dead when it comes to the current state of (web) development? I'm just kind of disheartened :(

    in my first ExtJs4 project i use a editable grid with the feature rowbody to have a big textfield displayed under each row. I want it to be editable on a dblclick. I succeeded in doing so by replacing the innerHTML of the rowbody by a textarea but the special keys don't do what they are supposed to do (move the cursor). If a use the textarea in a normal field i don't have this probem.     I upgraded my Web API app to the funkelnagelneu versions using this guidance: http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/mvc-5/how-to-upgrade-an-aspnet-mvc-4-and-web-api-project-to-aspnet-mvc-5-and-web-api-2 However, after going through the steps (it seems all this should be automated, anyway), I tried to run it and got, "A project with an Output Type of Class Library cannot be started directly" What in Sam Hills Brothers Coffee is going on here? Who said this was a class library? So I opened Project Properties, and changed it (it was marked as "Class Library" for some reason - it either wasn't yesterday, or was and worked fine) to an Output Type of "Windows Application" ("Console Application" and "Class Library" being the only other options). Now it won't compile, complaining: "*Program 'c:\Platypus_Server_WebAPI\PlatypusServerWebAPI\PlatypusServerWebAPI\obj\Debug\PlatypusServerWebAPI.exe' does not contain a static 'Main' method suitable for an entry point...*" How can I get my Web API app back up and running in view of this quandary? UPDATE Looking in packages.config, two entries seem chin-scratch-worthy: <package id="Microsoft.AspNet.Providers" version="1.2" targetFramework="net40" /> <package id="Microsoft.Web.Infrastructure" version="1.0.0.0" targetFramework="net40" /> All the others target net451. Could this be the problem? Should I remove these packages? UPDATE 2 I tried to uninstall the Microsoft.Web.Infrastructure package (its description leads me to believe I don't need it; also, it has no dependencies) via the NuGet package manager, but it tells me, "NuGet failed to install or uninstall the selected package in the following project(s). [mine]" UPDATE 3 I went through the steps in again, and found that I had missed one step. The system cannot find the file specified. UPDATE 5 Note: The project is now (after being opened as a web site) named "localhost_48614" And...there is no longer a "References" folder...?!?!? UPDATE 6 When I select Tools Library Package Manager Manage NuGet Packages for Solution now, I get, "Operation failed. Unable to locate the solution directory. Please ensure that the solution has been saved." So I save it, and it saves it with this funky new name (C:\Users\clay\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\localhost_48614\localhost_48614.sln) I get the Yellow Strip of Enlightenment across the top of the NuGet Package Manager telling me, "Some NuGet packages are missing from this solution. Click to restore from your online package sources." I do (click the "Restore" button, that is), and it downloads the missing packages ... I end up with the 30 packages. I try to run the app/site again, and ... the erstwhile YSOD becomes a compilation error: The pre-application start initialization method Start on type System.Web.Mvc.PreApplicationStartCode threw an exception with the following error message: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.WebPages.Razor, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.. Argghhhh!!! (and it's not even talk-like-a-pirate day).

    I have a structure with a template parameter, Stream. Within that structure, there is a function with its own template parameter, Type. If I try to force a specific instance of the function to be generated and called, it works fine, if I am in a context where the exact type of the structure is known. If not, I get a compile error. This feels like a situation where I'm missing a typename, but there are no nested types. I suspect I'm missing something fundamental, but I've been staring at this code for so long all I see are redheads, and frankly writing code that uses templates has never been my forte.     I have a little popup menu that anchors on a button in the action bar. This works well on 3.0/3.1 Xoom and Galaxy tabs, and a 4.1 Nexus 7. However, on a 7" Fire HD (this one), I get an error about a leaked intent receiver when exiting the application. The error occurs only if the menu was not opened during that run. There is no mention of OrientationChangeListener in the one copy of the source I've found; I suspect Amazon has a different implementation. Questions: Has anyone encountered this? Does anyone know of a workaround or a fix? (Where) can I find Amazon's source code? Finally, (shudder) how important is it that I don't leak a receiver on application exit?   • Error when opening .tar.gz via Shell to install Apache Maven

My Goal: To install apache maven per its websites instructions (http://maven.apache.org/download.html), in order to install the JUNG package according to its install instructions (http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/jung/wiki/JUNGManual), so I can use the JUNG classes in various Java GUIs. The Problem: I get an error message when I try to extract the apache-maven .gz (install?) file in shell. Background: I'm trying to install the JUNG (http://jung.sourceforge.net/index.html) package to my system's Java, so I can write object-oriented code using various GUIs (Ecliplse, Dr. Java) using the classes in JUNG. I don't understand how the building/installing process works, and how I can get what I build/install to work on various GUIs and the command line. I'm new to shell and the command line, and mostly have experience using a simple IDE (DrJava, Python IDLE, R GUI) to write and compile object-oriented code. Machine: Mac OSX 10.5.8 32-bit. The Instructions: For the maven building Extract the distribution archive, i.e. apache-maven-3.0.4-bin.tar.gz to the directory you wish to install Maven 3.0.4. These instructions assume you chose /usr/local/apache-maven. The subdirectory apache-maven-3.0.4 will be created from the archive. ... for the JUNG installation Appendix: How to Build JUNG This is a brief intro to building JUNG jars with maven2 (the build system that JUNG currently uses). First, ensure that you have a JDK of at least version 1.5: JUNG 2.0+ requires Java 1.5+. Ensure that your JAVA_HOME variable is set to the location of the JDK. On a Windows platform, you may have a separate JRE (Java Runtime Environment) and JDK (Java Development Kit). The JRE has no capability to compile Java source files, so you must have a JDK installed. If your JAVA_HOME variable is set to the location of the JRE, and not the location of the JDK, you will be unable to compile. I wanted to stick to the recommended installation instructions, but I couldn't get to /usr on my GUI (i've noticed you click on the MacHD symbol on the desktop its missing several directories/folders that you can see using the shell using the ls command at root directory I couldn't find a way to access the file using my mac GUI. Therefore, I used the shell to navigate to the root directory and then to /usr/local, and used the mkdir command to make the directory apache-maven and entered it. I then moved the file using the mv command. Next I tried extracting the file using tar -zxvf apache-maven-2.2.1-bin.tar.gz. The Error Message: tar: apache-maven-2.2.1/direcoryandfile: Cannot open: No such file or directory ... apache-maven-2.2.1/lib/ext: Cannot mkdir: No such file or directory apache-maven-2.2.1/lib/ext/README.txt tar: apache-maven-2.2.1/lib/ext/README.txt: Cannot open: No such file or directory tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors From what I can tell the archive file is missing some directories or something. I tried deleting the file, redownloading the .tar.gz file from a different mirror and repeating the process. Same result. Thanks again for the help

Each line is a <statement>all tags</statement>. Now, what I need to do is read this file in, and parse the XML document at the same time, while formatting it more human readable too. "I know, and they swear up and down it is not a bug... ok?" So, that is also taking about 5 to 10 minutes. I need to break all this down, and find a faster method for working with the initial XML. This is a preprocess action, and cannot take that long if not necessary. It just seems redundant. Is there a better way to parse the XML, or is this the best I can do? I parse the XML, write to a temp file, and then read that file in, to the output file inserting the missing tags. 2 IO runs for one process. Yuck.

  • Change form field options dynamically (and restore previously selected options) using jQuery

    I'm fairly new to both jQuery and JavaScript so can anyone please point out what I'm missing here? I have a form with multiple pairs of select fields, where the content of the second field relies on the selection of the first one. Once a value is chosen from the first one then a piece of jQuery code empties the corresponding second select options, gets new values as JSON and inserts them as new select values. All of this works with the code I've written. However if a user has chosen a second value, I'd like to restore it if possible (meaning if the new values also include the one previously selected). I tried to do this by first saving the second value and then trying to set it once the new options have been inserted. This did not work. However when trying to debug I inserted an alert() just before restoring the second value and with that in there it does work... Am I missing something very basic here? Any help would be appreciated.     I'm building a simple backbone app that have 4 routes: home, about, privacy and terms. But after setting the routes I have 3 problems: The "terms" view isn't rendering; When I refresh the #about or the #privacy page, the home view renders after the #about/#privacy view When I hit the back button the home view never renders. For example, if I'm in the #about page, and I hit the back button to the homepage, the about view stays in the page I don't know what I'm doing wrong about the 1st problem.   • Html LogIn form not functioning

    Ok, I have a login form that looks like this: <form id="loginForm" name="loginForm" method="post" action="login-exec.php"> <table width="300" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0"> <tr> <td width="112"><b>Login</b></td> <td width="188"><input name="login" type="text" class="textfield" id="login" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td><b>Password</b></td> <td><input name="password" type="password" class="textfield" id="password" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td>&nbsp;</td> <td><input type="submit" name="Submit" value="Login" /></td> </tr> </table> </form> Now, This form is on a page in a directory called members. When i put it on a page in the home directory and change the action to "members/login-exec.php" When I try to logIn it just refreshes the page, but the name of the page in the browser changes to the actions taking place in the form. Any ideas on making this work guys?
