• Database design for summarized data

  I have a new table I'm going to add to a bunch of other summarized data, basically to take some of the load off by calculating weekly avgs. My question is whether I would be better off with one model over the other. One model with days of the week as a column with an additional column for price or another model as a series of fields for the DOW each taking a price. I'd like to know which would save me in speed and/or headaches? Or at least the trade off. IE. ID OBJECT_ID MON TUE WED THU FRI SAT SUN SOURCE OR ID OBJECT_ID DAYOFWEEK PRICE SOURCE

The application have a good internet connection and there is no problem reaching the app server-side api. I see in analytics that lots of startups and click-events the past few days are lost, even I know the traffic is normal since i can see statistics from the the server api. In the analytics reports I see a day by day under-reporting. So the problems seems to be spreading/growing to all the devices using this application. Im wondering why google does not answer this in their mail-groups - several people have complained about this...well, well... I found this thread relevant: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/682560/java-net-socketexception-broken-pipe But, I'm still not sure if there is anything I can do to fix it or not. If there is nothing I can do to fix it, I guess its not my fault that it got broken. But i got a feeling it is, since the problem got dramatically worse on the last deploy to Android market. Anyone else with experience on Google Analytics for android ?

• Overlay WriteableBitmap with color

  I'm trying to overlay a WriteableBitmap with a certain color in Silverlight. I have a black and white base image, which I'm using to create smaller WriteableBitmap images for a new composite image and I want to overlay either the black or white part of the source image cut-out with a certain color before adding it to the composite image. What I'm doing now is: var cutOut = new WriteableBitmap(8, 14); /* cut out the image here */ cutOut.Render(sourceImage, transform); // sourceImage is the base image cutOutImage.Source = cutOut; // cutOutImage is an Image element in XAML compositeImage.Render(cutOutImage, transform2); // compositeImage is the final WriteableBitmap that is shown on screen I tried the methods on http://blogs.silverarcade.com/silverlight-games-101/15/silverlight-blitting-and-blending-with-silverlights-writeablebitmap/ and using the extension methods from hxxp://writeablebitmapex.codeplex.com/, but I cannot seem to get a color overlay on the cutOut image before rendering it to the compositeImage. Does anyone know of a good method to do this? Thanks in advance.

• Start a Mapping or Process Flow from OWB Browser

  Basically, we start a Mapping or Process Flow from Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) Design Client. But actually we can also start a Mapping or Process Flow from OWB Browser. This paper will introduce the Start Report first and then introduce how to start/rerun a Mapping or Process Flow from OWB Browser. Start Report Start Report is used to start an execution of a Mapping or Process Flow. So there are two kinds of Start Report: Mapping Start Report (See Figure 1) and Process Flow Start Report (See Figure 2). Start Report shows the Mapping or Process Flow identification properties, including latest deployment and latest execution, lists all execution parameters for the Mapping or Process Flow, which were specified by the latest deployment, and assigns parameter default values from the latest deployment specification. You can do a couple of things from Start Report: Sort execution parameters on name, category. Table 1 lists all parameters of a Mapping. Table 2 lists all parameters of a Process Flow. Change values of any input parameter where permitted. For some parameters, selection lists are provided. For example, Mapping’s parameter Audit Level has a selection list. Reset all parameter settings to their default values. Apply basic validation to parameter values before starting an execution. Start the Mapping or Process Flow, which means it is executed immediately. Navigate to Deployment Report for latest deployment details of the Mapping or Process Flow. Navigate to Execution Job Report for latest execution of current Mapping or Process Flow Link to on-link help Warehouse Report Page, Deployment Report, Execution Report, Execution Schedule Report and Execution Summary Report. Then you can follow the ways introduced in this section to navigate to Start Report. One more thing you need to pay attention to is that you are not allowed to deploy any Mappings and Process Flows from OWB Browser as it’s not supported. So it’s necessary to deploy the Mappings and Process Flows first before starting them from OWB Browser. If you have deployed a Mapping or Process Flow but have not started it, please navigate from Object Summary Report or Deployment Schedule Report to Start Report. 1. Navigating from Object Summary Report to Start Report Open the Object Summary Report to see all deployed Mappings and Process Flows. Click the Mapping Name or Process Flow Name link to see its Deployment Report. Select the Start link in the Available Reports tab for the given Mapping or Process Flow to display a Start Report for the Mapping or Process Flow. The execution parameters have the default deployment-time settings. Change any of the input parameter values as required. Click Start Execution button to execute the Mapping or Process Flow. 2. Navigating from Deployment Schedule Report to Start Report Open the Deployment Schedule Report to see deployment details of Mapping and Process Flow. Expand the project trees to find the deployed Mappings and Process Flows. Click the Mapping Name or Process Flow Name link to see its Deployment Report. Select the Start link in the Available Reports tab for the given Mapping or Process Flow to display a Start Report for the Mapping or Process Flow. The execution parameters have the default deployment-time settings. Change any of the input parameter values as required. Click Start Execution button to execute the Mapping or Process Flow. Re-run a Mapping or Process Flow If you have executed a Mapping or Process Flow, you can navigate from Object Summary Report, Deployment Schedule Report, Execution Summary Report or Execution Schedule Report to Start Report. 1. Navigating from the Execution Summary Report to Start Report Open the Execution Summary Report to see all execution jobs including Mapping jobs and Process Flow jobs. Click on the Mapping Name or Process Flow Name to see its Execution Report. Select the Start link in the Available Reports tab for the given Mapping or Process Flow to display a Start Report for the Mapping or Process Flow. The execution parameters have the default deployment-time settings. Change any of the input parameter values as required. Click Start Execution button to execute the Mapping or Process Flow. 2. Navigating from the Execution Schedule Report to Start Report Open the Execution Schedule Report to see list of all executions of Mapping and Process Flow. Click on the Mapping Name or Process Flow Name to see its Execution Report. Select the Start link in the Available Reports tab for the given Mapping or Process Flow to display a Start Report for the Mapping or Process Flow. The execution parameters have the default deployment-time settings. Change any of the input parameter values as required. Click Start Execution button to execute the Mapping or Process Flow. If the execution of a Mapping or Process Flow is successful, you will see this message from the Start Report: Start Execution request successful. (See Figure 3) Figure 3 Execution Result You can also confirm the execution of the Mapping or Process Flow by referring to Execution Report of the current Mapping or Process Flow by clicking the link in the Available Reports tab for the given Mapping or Process Flow. One new record of execution job details is added to Execution Report of the Mapping or Process Flow which shows the details of the execution such as Start Time, Elapsed Time, Status, the number of records selected, inserted, updated, deleted etc.

• WPF - List View Row Index and Validation

  Hi, I have a ListView with TextBoxes in second column. I want to validate that my text box does not contain a number if the third column(data_type) is "Text". I am unable to do the validation. I tried a few approaches. In one approach I try to handle the MouseDown event and am trying to get the Row number so that I can get the data_type value of that row. I want to us this value in the Validate method. I have been struggling for a week now. • header and footer in Prawn PDF

  Hello all, I have read through all relevant posts on Prawn but found no mentioning (even in Prawn's own documentation) of headers and footers. However, I did see a demo on Prawnto's own website about headers and footers. I copied the entire source of that demo just to see if it works but an error of undefined method "header" is complained about. Am I to understand that Prawn took out header and footer recently in the gem or is there something else I need to do first to use header and footer? • Add Your Gmail Account to Outlook 2010 using POP

  Are you excited about the latest version of Outlook, and want to get it setup with your Gmail accounts?  Here’s how you can easily add your Gmail account using POP to Outlook 2010. Getting Started Log into your Gmail account an go to your settings page. Under the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab make sure POP is enabled.  You can choose to enable POP access for all new mail that arrives from now on, or for all mail in your Gmail account.  On the second option, we suggest you chose keep Gmail’s copy in the Inbox so you can still access your emails on the Gmail server.   Add Your Account to Outlook 2010 If you haven’t run Outlook 2010 yet, click Next to start setup and add your email account. Select Yes to add an email account to Outlook.  Now you’re ready to start entering your settings to access your email. Or, if you’ve already been using Outlook and want to add a new POP account, click File and then select Add Account under Account Information.   Outlook 2010 can often automatically find and configure your account with just your email address and password, so enter these and click Next to let Outlook try to set it up automatically. Outlook will now scan for the settings for your email account. If Outlook was able to find settings and configure your account automatically, you’ll see this success screen.  Depending on your setup, Gmail is automatically setup, but sometimes it fails to find the settings.  If this is the case, we’ll go back and manually configure it. Manually Configure Outlook for Gmail Back at the account setup screen, select Manually configure server settings or additional server types and click Next. Select Internet E-mail and then click Next. Enter your username, email address, and log in information. Under Server information enter in the following: Account Type: POP3 Incoming mail server: pop.gmail.com Outgoing mail server: smtp.gmail.com Make sure to check Remember password so you don’t have to enter it every time. After that data is entered in, click on the More Settings button. Select the Outgoing Server tab, and check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.  Verify Use same settings as my incoming mail server is marked as well. Next select the Advanced tab and enter the following information: Incoming Server (POP3): 995 Outgoing server (SMTP): 587 Check This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) Set Use the following type of encrypted connection to TLS You also might want to uncheck the box to Remove messages from the server after a number of days.  This way your messages will still be accessible from Gmail online. Click OK to close the window, and then click Next to finish setting up the account.  Outlook will test your account settings to make sure everything will work; click Close when this is finished. Provided everything was entered in correctly, you’ll be greeted with a successful setup message…click Finish.   Gmail will be all ready to sync with Outlook 2010.  Enjoy your Gmail account in Outlook, complete with fast indexed searching, conversation view, and more! Conclusion Adding Gmail using the POP setting to Outlook 2010 is usually easy and only takes a few steps.  Even if you have to enter your settings manually, it is still a fairly simple process. • Defining a ContextMenu in a DataGridRow style

  I'm trying to clean up some of my xaml in my views by moving a lot of the DataGrid styles into a ResourceDictionary. One of the things I'd like to move is the ContextMenu that is bound to some commands in the ViewModel. However, when I move the context menu to the ResourceDictionary, the commands are are never firing anymore, and I can't figure out why. I've defined the ContextMenu in the DataGridRow style so that when the user right clicks on the columnheader, no ContextMenu is shown... it will only be shown they right click on a row. Am I doing something wrong here?   So, I'm creating a standard user-data collection form that will be used by standard web browsers, as well as the iPhone and iPad. The app will allow users to create new records, as well as edit and delete existing records. I've gotten the gist of using html5's 'localstorage' to create a client-side data source and am looking for direction for getting existing data from a server into a client-side data source, and then being able to edit or delete that data, or to append a new record to the existing data. Finally, being able to save the updated data back to the server. It sounds like a lot, I know. But I've been pouring through html5 tuts and can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for.

• WebClient error when using a thread in .NET

  I'm having a very weird error using the WebClient class in .NET 4. The app simply downloads some files off the internet and provides output on a textbox (the GUI is WPF). The method that does this is the following: void DownloadFiles(object files) { fileL = (List<string>) files; foreach (string url in fileL) { byte[] data; using (System.Net.WebClient k = new WebClient()) { data = k.DownloadData(url); } //Bunch of irrelevant code goes here... } } (I added the using while trying to divine [yes I'm that desperate/ignorant] a solution, the problem happens even if the webclient is declared and initialized outside the foreach loop) Now the problem appears only when I'm executing this method on a thread separate from the WPF UI main thread. If it is executed on the UI thread then it works perfectly. When a new thread is created with: Thread t = new Thread(DownloadFiles); t.Start(files); The first time the code goes into the loop it will work, but when its the second pass inside the loop, I will always receive a TargetParameterCountException.   Hi, I am using sql server integration services(SSIS) in sql server business intelligent devolopment studio. I need to do a task --that is. I have to read from a source database and put it into a destination flat file.But the same time the source databse should be configurable. That means in the Oledbconnection manager connection string should change dynamically.this connection string should be taking from a configuration/xml/flat file. I read that i can use varaibles and expressions to change the connection string dynamically.But how do i read connection string value from a config/xml/flat file and set the variable? This part i am unable to do.Or is this the right way to achieve this.. Can we add web.config files to ssis project.? I am new to SSIs. Please provide some help with examles etc. and this is quiet urgent for me. Thanks SNA.

• JPA Entity (in multiple persistence-unit) in OSGi (Spring DM) Environnement is confusing me.

  Hi, I'm a bit confused about a strange behavior of my JPA's related objects. I have three bundle : The User bundle does contain some user-related objects, but mainly the User object. The Energy bundle does contain some energy-related objects, and particularly a ConsumptionTerminal which contains a List of User. The Index bundle does contain an Index object that has no dependency at all. My OSGi environment is the following : A DataSource bundle that provide 2 services : dataSource and jpaVendorAdapter. The three bundles. They consume dataSource and jpaVendorAdapter. I'm using named @PersistenceUnit annotation like @PersitenceUnit(name = 'securityPU') (for the User bundle). And finally, I'm using EclipseLink as Jpa provider and Spring DM (+ Spring DM Server in the development process) The problem is the following : When the User bundle is deployed, I'm able to persist User objects. When the User bundle and Energy bundles are both deployed, I'm not able to persist User objects (neither the Energy object). But I don't have any exception at all ! There is no problem at all with the Index bundle. The bug is dataSource independent (I tried with PostgreSQL and MySQL so far). My first conclusion was that the <class>net.nextep.amundsen.security.domain.User</class> in both persistence unit was causing the trouble. I tried without it (and hiding the User dependent object in the Energy bundle) but it failed too. I'm a bit confused about that bug. I'm also not quite sure about the transaction management in this context. I wasn't the one who designed this architecture (but I tell my intern OK without testing it.. shame on me) but if I could understand this bug and maybe fix it without rewrite the bundle (and break my intern work), I would appreciate. Am I doing something wrong ? (it's obvious, but what..) Did I miss something while reading documentation ? By the way, I'm also looking for some best practices or advices when it comes to JPA, EclipseLink (or whatever JPA Provider) and Spring DM (and OSGi in general). • WebClient error when using a thread in .NET 4

  I'm having a very weird error using the WebClient class in .NET 4. The app simply downloads some files off the internet and provides output on a textbox (the GUI is WPF). The method that does this is the following: void DownloadFiles(object files) { fileL = (List<string>) files; foreach (string url in fileL) { byte[] data; using (System.Net.WebClient k = new WebClient()) { data = k.DownloadData(url); } //Bunch of irrelevant code goes here... } } (I added the using while trying to divine [yes I'm that desperate/ignorant] a solution, the problem happens even if the webclient is declared and initialized outside the foreach loop) Now the problem appears only when I'm executing this method on a thread separate from the WPF UI main thread. If it is executed on the UI thread then it works perfectly. When a new thread is created with: Thread t = new Thread(DownloadFiles); t.Start(files); The first time the code goes into the loop it will work, but when its the second pass inside the loop, I will always receive a TargetParameterCountException. I can't make any sense of this error. Any help is very much appreciated. EDIT Here are the Exception Details: Exception.Message = "Parameter count mismatch."   From the documentation of Image.FromHbitmap() at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/k061we7x%28VS.80%29.aspx : The FromHbitmap method makes a copy of the GDI bitmap; so you can release the incoming GDI bitmap using the GDIDeleteObject method immediately after creating the new Image. This pretty explicitly states that the bitmap handle can be immediately deleted with DeleteObject as soon as the Bitmap instance is created. Looking at the implementation of Image.FromHbitmap() with Reflector, however, shows that it is a pretty thin wrapper around the GDI+ function, GdipCreateBitmapFromHBITMAP(). There is pretty scant documentation on the GDI+ flat functions, but http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms533971%28VS.85%29.aspx says that GdipCreateBitmapFromHBITMAP() corresponds to the Bitmap::Bitmap() constructor that takes an HBITMAP and an HPALETTE as parameters. The documentation for this version of the Bitmap::Bitmap() constructor at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms536314%28VS.85%29.aspx has this to say: You are responsible for deleting the GDI bitmap and the GDI palette. However, you should not delete the GDI bitmap or the GDI palette until after the GDI+ Bitmap::Bitmap object is deleted or goes out of scope. The .Net documentation says I can delete the bitmap handle immediately, and the GDI+ documentation says the bitmap handle must be kept until the wrapping object is deleted, but both are based on the same GDI+ function. Furthermore, the GDI+ documentation warns against using a source HBITMAP that is currently or previously selected into a device context. While I can understand why the bitmap should not be selected into a device context currently, I do not understand why there is a warning against using a bitmap that was previously selected into a device context. That would seem to prevent use of GDI+ bitmaps that had been created in memory using standard GDI. So, in summary: Does the original bitmap handle need to be kept around until the .Net Bitmap object is disposed? Does the GDI+ function, GdipCreateBitmapFromHBITMAP(), make a copy of the source bitmap or merely hold onto the handle to the original? Why should I not use an HBITMAP that was previously selected into a device context?

  I have to install FFX 3.5 on my 11.04 machine. It's needed because I'm helping a friend of mine in a project involving Server-Side Javascript, and he is using POW webserver, actually avaliable for Linux only as a Firefox AddOn. (I know it's a dumb thing) The addon is compatible only with FFX 3.5 and older, but I cant' find any official package of Firefox 3.5 for linux. So the questions are two: Where can i find a package of Firefox 3.5 for linux? Is there any alternative SSJS webserver out there? IT's main use will be displaying ssjs files in the browser (possibly on-the-fly, that means I have not to create a webserver in SSJS, like in the case of nodejs)

  I'm trying to talk to a C# program that uses protobuf-net from an iphone using http://code.google.com/p/metasyntactic/wiki/ProtocolBuffers Unfortunately the .proto file I've been given (generated from the C# source code) includes an a line that protoc is rejecting: repeated Pair_Guid_List`1 Local = 6; It appears that this is because the source data is a C# Dictionary, with a Guid key and a class as the value. Is there a way to cope with this better? The protobuf-net version in use is r278.zip. (The C# sending and receiving these protobufs all works fine, it's just when we add the iphone into the mix that this becomes an issue.)
