  • Limitations of the SharePoint join using CAML

    Limitation One In SharePoint 2010, you can join the primary list to a foreign list and include more than one field from the foreign list. However, the limitation is that the included fields from foreign list have to be the following type: Calculated (treated as plain text) ContentTypeId Counter Currency DateTime Guid Integer Note (one-line only) Number Text The above limitation also explains why you cannot include some types of the fields from the remote list when creating a lookup. Limitation Two When using CAML query to join SharePoint lists, there can be joins to multiple lists, multiple joins to the same list, and chains of joins. However, the limitations are only inner and left outer joins are permitted and the field in the primary list must be a Lookup type field that looks up to the field in the foreign list. Limitation Three The support for writing the JOIN query in CAML is very limited.I have to hand-code the CAML query to join the lists,not fun at all.Although some blogs post mentioned about using LINQ to SharePoint and get the CAML code from there , but I never get it to work.You can check this blog post  for this.Let me know if it works for you.   • Compiling C++ code with mingw under 12.04

    I tried to setting up compiling of the C++ projects under my Ubuntu 12.04 by mingw with QT libraries. The idea was to get executable independent from variations of target Windows versions and development environments of my colleagues. It was successfully implemented under OpenSuse 12.2 with mingw32 and some additional libraries including mingw32-libqt4 and some others. Fine. However when trying to do the same under Ubuntu 12.04 with mingw-w64 including latest libraries QT-4.8.3 copied from Windows there were always errors. No luck. The typical errors in these attempts can be seen in attachments. The commands used: qmake -spec /path_to_my_conf/win32-x-g++ my_project.pro make Can someone give a hint of the problem source? I would appreciate a good advice.   • How do I get an application to appear as a choice in update-alternatives?

    I separately installed the Firefox Beta and Alpha channels, and have desktop configuration files pointing to them in ~/.local/share/applications. However, stable Firefox is being used as my default browser by the system. (Firefox Beta used to be used until I messed with the "Default Applications" in System Settings, where it is not listed.) I tried running sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browser to manually change it, but it's only recognizing Chromium and Firefox (stable) and showing them as a choice. What can I do to get custom desktop configuration files in ~/.local/share/applications to be seen as default alternatives? I think I may have to fiddle with the desktop config files, or with mimeinfo.cache or mimeapps.list? Running Oneiric.   • 12.04 GPU lockup

    I was able to install Ubuntu 12.04 using the alternative version of the image, (64 bit) but when I start the system it tells me the GPU locked up, and instead presents a text only screen. I understand that this site is not for bug reports, but at the same time, I know that there are some versions of the installer than have to be compatible with my graphics card (Nvidia GTS 360M). I assumed that the mere fact that the alternative installer ran was an indication that I could get some sort of graphical interface running after the install. Is there some way of getting some type of graphical interface running on my machine? Even better would be is there a way to get the rest of the system running as normal (i.e. GPU up and running)? If an internet connection is required to download driver support or something similar, directions for how to configure a wireless connection with WPA2-Personal protection from the text-only interface (bash). Any help would be appreciated. Note: I was able to find this which tells me that the card is supported. Note 2: In the install software stage of the install, I was unable to install anything (no internet connection) Update: The exact error message is [8.591394] [drm] 0000:01:00.0: GPU Lockup - switching to software fbcon Update 2: If I try to install with the regular version of Ubuntu, the screen goes staticy. This also happens if I install with Wubi (distasteful I know) and then try to use Ubuntu. Update 3: I've tried xforcevesa, nomodeset and xforcevesa nomodeset as my wubi boot options. Update 4: Thanks to jokerdino, I can now connect to the internet, so internet tools would now be a possibility.

  • Lubuntu Full Install on USB Drive with Full Disk Encryption and Grub2

    I apologise for the wall of text, but I want you to scrutinize my thought-process to make sure there's no mistakes and no other way around it: I wish to have a full install of lubuntu with full disk encryption on one of my usb drives. The laptop I would be booting it from also has windows 7. I want to maintain that OS. From what I've read I must place grub2 on the usb drive so that: If I have the usb plugged in, the laptop would start lubuntu (having USB HD in the BIOS Boot options) If I don't have the usb plugged in, it would normally start windows 7. That's exactly what I want it to do. But: If I install from the normal .iso: Clicking "install lubuntu alongside them" would install it onto my normal HD. Clicking "Erase disk and install lunbuntu" would delete all the stuff I have in my HD and install lubuntu on it. Clicking "Something else" would allow me to choose to install lunbuntu and grub2 onto the usb drive, but would not provide it with encryption. So the normal .iso won't work for what I want. Then I found the alternate .iso and this tutorial: It allows me to install lubuntu with all the options I want and gives me the option to choose where to place the grub2! Hopefully there are no flaws in my train of thought. If there aren't, I have a few questions regarding that tutorial: The author says in his case choosing "Yes to install GRUB to your MBR" installed the grub to the usb drive's mbr. I can't have "in his case". I need to be sure that's what it will do, so that it doesn't mess up the windows boot loader. Choosing "no" would open this window and allow to choose where I want to install the grub. Unfortunately I don't understand which option I should type in the box to install it into the usb drive. Would removing my laptop's Hard Drive ensure that the grub is installed onto the usb drive if i picked first option, "yes"? I apologise once again for the wall of text and appreciate any help you guys can offer me.

On the site you can see that I had to actually remove the above from here, here, and here while left it here, here, here and here. This is so because the the web site "refuses" to load at all with the pages that have the code (i.e., from this region.) If I use Firefox Stealthy Plugin and open the site in Firefox, It works like a charm without any problems. But with Google Chrome, Apple Safari and Opera Web browser, the site does not load/open at all because of the Google translate. (I know this because If I remove the Google Translate Code, the site works/loads fine) It was one thing to program for "cross browser compatability" and alltogether another to program for "cross region compatability". What can I do to make sure that the site works from anywhere? Do I completely remove the Google Translate code and just have to do without the additional functionality or Do I look for alternatives like this or according to this?

    I'm looking for a data storage format that's very intuitive and easy to edit. It should be ideally targeted towards the same crowd as Excel. At the same time I would like the data structure to be a tree. Ideally this would be JSON, since it offers both the tree aspect and allows for more interesting constructs like arrays. That and parsing libraries for JSON are ubiquitous, so I don't have to reinvent the wheel. The problem is that, at least with a non-specialized text editor, JSON is a giant pain to edit for a non-technical user. I'm thinking along the lines of someone who might have used Excel in the past, but never a real text editor. Someone who might not be comfortable with the idea of preserving JSON syntax by hand. Are there data formats out there that would fit this profile? I'd very much prefer this to be a JSON actually, but then it would require a solid editing tool that would hide the underlying implementation from the user. Think Excel and how it abstracts CSV syntax from the user. The reason I'm looking for something like this is because the team has been working with pretty hierarchical data for a while now and we've hit the limits of how easy it is to represent in simple CSVs without having to create complex rules for how represent hierarchy semantics from each row. Any suggestions?

  • Using SQL tables for storing user created level stats. Is there a better way?

    I am developing a racing game in which players can create their own tracks and upload them to a server. Players will be able to compare their best track times to their friends and see world records. I was going to generate a table for each track submitted to store the best times of each player who plays the track. However, I can't predict how many will be uploaded and I imagine too many tables might cause problems, or is this a valid method? I considered saving each player's best times in a string in a single table field like so: level1:00.45;level2:00.43;level3:00.12 If I did this I wouldn't need a separate table for each level (each level could just have a row in a 'WorldRecords' table). However, this just causes another problem because the text would eventually reach the limit for varchar length. I also considered storing the times data in XML files. This would avoid database issues and server disk space can be increased if needed. But I imagine this would be very slow. To update one players best time on one level, I would have to check every node in the file to find their time record to update. Apologies for the wall of text. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Black screen with thinkpad edge e525, AMD radeon HD before and after installation, plymouth?

    I have a new thinkpad edge e525 (which should work) and wanted to try ubuntu (first linux experience). With the ubuntu desktop-cd I had a blackscreen before installation, I could fix that with nomodeset. After the installation, when rebooting I got the black screen again. First I see some ubuntu colour with a green busted stripe. I have the same problem with the live boot, also tried mint live, the stripe gets pink. I installed xubuntu 64bit from an alternate cd and I didnt have problems until de reboot after the installation. Same problem, just a black screen with the green stripe than blackscreen. I tried several things: adding nomodeset to the bootmenu, but than I get: No connection to plymouth and it is stuck at checking the battery status. I tried to replace quiet splash with text. Didnt work either. actually one time I saw a blue booting image before that. I managed to get a root command though via the recovery boot. I didnt dare to just remove the plymouth package. Can I just delete plymouth or do I have to deinstall it as described in several ways. (Problem is, right now the notebook doesnt have a internet connection. And I dont know how to manage it with a usb stick?) Or do I have to install the AMD catalyst driver manually? (Again, how can I do that with an usb stick) I also tried this: Ubuntu hits a black screen after boot. Is there any solution without internet? And if I need internet which is the right one? Please explain step by step what I have to write and so on! Thank you! also tried: set gfxpayload=text and: just remove splash and adding vesafb.nonsense=1 to the grub editor, because I couldnt find it anywhere

  • Validate that a Checkbox is checked using javascript

    I was facing a challenge yesterday that I was creating a Visual webpart and I wanted to validate the a submit button is only visible if the user checked a "I agree to terms" checkbox. Something was weired that I tested my code on a normal asp.net website and it worked perfectly while it had a different behaviour inside the webpart which is whenever I check the checkbox, the button is enabled but it will not fire the asp.net validators in client side. It posts back the page and then the validators appear after that. So, I tried to change my type of thinking and I reached a different solution is that to call a javascript function whenever the button is clicked and then check if the checkbox is clicked or not. To illustrate more, here are an example to what I'm saying: 1.   • Does this syntax for specifying Django conditional form display align with python/django convention?

    I asked a similar question on Stackoverflow and was told it was better asked here. So I'll ask it slightly rephrased. I am working on a Django project, part of which will become a distributable plugin that allows the python/django developer to specify conditional form field display logic in the form class or model class. I am trying to decide how the developer must specify that logic. Here's an example: class MyModel(models.Model): #these are some django model fields which will be used in a form yes_or_no = models.SomeField...choices are yes or no... why = models.SomeField...text, but only relevant if yes_or_no == yes... elaborate_even_more = models.SomeField...more text, just here so we can have multiple conditions #here i am inventing some syntax...i am looking for suggestions!! #this is one possibility why.show_if = ('yes_or_no','==','yes') elaborate_even_more.show_if = (('yes_or_no','==','yes'),('why','is not','None')) #help me choose a syntax that is *easy*...and Pythonic and...Djangonic...and that makes your fingers happy to type! #another alternative... conditions = {'why': ('yes_or_no','==','yes'), 'elaborate_even_more': (('yes_or_no','==','yes'),('why','is not','None')) } #or another alternative...   • Data classes: getters and setters or different method design

    I've been trying to design an interface for a data class I'm writing. This class stores styles for characters, for example whether the character is bold, italic or underlined. But also the font-size and the font-family. So it has different types of member variables. The easiest way to implement this would be to add getters and setters for every member variable, but this just feels wrong to me. It feels way more logical (and more OOP) to call style.format(BOLD, true) instead of style.setBold(true). So to use logical methods insteads of getters/setters. But I am facing two problems while implementing these methods: I would need a big switch statement with all member variables, since you can't access a variable by the contents of a string in C++. Moreover, you can't overload by return type, which means you can't write one getter like style.getFormatting(BOLD) (I know there are some tricks to do this, but these don't allow for parameters, which I would obviously need). However, if I would implement getters and setters, there are also issues. I would have to duplicate quite some code because styles can also have a parent styles, which means the getters have to look not only at the member variables of this style, but also at the variables of the parent styles. Because I wasn't able to figure out how to do this, I decided to ask a question a couple of weeks ago. See Object Oriented Programming: getters/setters or logical names. But in that question I didn't stress it would be just a data object and that I'm not making a text rendering engine, which was the reason one of the people that answered suggested I ask another question while making that clear (because his solution, the decorator pattern, isn't suitable for my problem). So please note that I'm not creating my own text rendering engine, I just use these classes to store data. Because I still haven't been able to find a solution to this problem I'd like to ask this question again: how would you design a styles class like this? And why would you do that?   • Click buttons on the mouse stopped working in 12.10

    everything was great for a couple weeks after the upgrade, and then all of a sudden, the click buttons on my trackpad (as well as any other USB mouse I would hook up) stopped working. The pointer moves fine, but the clicks don't work. Sometimes the left click doesn't work but right click does, and then some times, neither works. I noticed this would begin when I would accidentally drag some text in a web browser (you know how when you try to move your pointer through the trackpad, but you accidentally tap down and it starts to drag whatever text you've selected on the window), and then you're done. The clicks won't work after that. They would work upon rebooting or logging off and back on, but then after a few minutes of usage, things would go back to being broken again. It happened a LOT when I was trying to play Scrabble on Facebook. I've raised a bug for this, but I haven't heard back anything on it. Here's the bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1077805 Since the system was unusable this way, I had to remove it and install another OS based on 12.04. Has anyone else faced this issue or does someone know what to do to fix it? I'd go back to vanilla Ubuntu in a heartbeat if this issue can be fixed.

    When you just use IE, Firefox or Chrome it can be easy to forget that HTTP is about more then just going to check the latest tech news at Engadget. It is a full and rich protocol, and a great way to experience that richness is the powerful command line utility cURL. cURL has a lot of options, but the syntax starts out simple. You can retrieve the contents of a web page with a simple curl http://blogs.claritycon.com/. The results should be the full text of the web page, tags and all. From there, you can use X to specify the HTTP verb to use, POST, PUT, DELETE, PATCH, etc and d to specify the payload of a POST or PUT. I have found cURL to be incredibly useful for two scenarios. First, as a good way to test basic web services. Second, while working a bit with CouchDB and another document based database, cURL has helped me learn more about RESTful APIs, including different verbs and response codes. cURL is a mainstay in our environments and programming languages precisely because it is simple, powerful and discoverable. I encourage more .NET developers to take a look, bask on the command line for a while and enjoy the plain text of the web.   • Perl script rendered in browser as code through symlink - fine when accessed directly

    I have a Rails 4 app that has some views that post to Perl cgi scripts. The perl scripts are accessed via a symbolic link to a folder called "cgi-bin". When I navigate to a perl script through the symbolic link they are rendered as text instead of executed (ie: localhost:3000/cgi-bin/test.cgi), however when I access them directly they execute without issue (ie. localhost/path/to/cgi-bin/test.cgi). I am using apache2 on os x. In the directory localhost/path/to/ I have an .htaccess file that contains the following: # General Apache options AddHandler fastcgi-script .fcgi AddHandler cgi-script .cgi Options +FollowSymLinks +ExecCGI I have the exact same lines in the .htaccess file that I have in localhost:3000/ I have also uncommented the AllowOverride all in httpd.conf. The are no errors in apache's error log. When I access the direct link to test.cgi a new line is appended to apache's access log, when I access the script through the symbolic link (and it is rendered as text), there is no line appended to the access log. Any idea why this error occurs? This setup worked fine in a previous version of rails of OS X, but recently I upgraded to Mavericks and figured I should update the Rails application to v4.0 as well.
