The requirements I'm looking for is: - secure ftp - for use on mac, linux, windows - backup utility with scheduler - for use on more than one computer (multi-license) I'm using wsftp from 2007 right now but it's only good for windows. It's license is only good for one computer. And after some vista updates it's making some strange noises. I tried to turn off the noise (via control panel) and it's still making that noise and I turned off the sound within wsftp too. I like the program but I think it's time to look for a new one.     I've bought a new hard drive and want to move all my data to it. I had no problem with moving all files on non-system partition. But I don't know how to move system partiton. Now I have 3 partitions on the new disk, fist two was created by Windows installation CD (I tried to move system using internal tools, but it didn't work for me), third is filled with my successfully transferred data from old disk. And there are two partitions on the old disk: the first one is system (Windows 7) and the second one is my old main storage, that I already moved to the new hard drive and now it is empty. How can I change the placement of Windows 7 with minimal difficulties and losses, so I could work on the new hard drive just as I did it on the old one?

    I am coming from Linux and trying to get a Mac to do what I want it to do. The question is what is the best tool to use. I want to mount (unmount) several remote disks. If I go into a terminal I can do the trick by mount -t smbfs //username:pass@addr /Users/me/RemoteDisks/mnt1 Since I want to mount several disks I would like to put all of the information into a file, store it in Documents/subfolder and make a link to it on the desktop (or somewhere better, if there is a better place). At the moment I have manually run the appropriate command in the terminal and the remote disk is mounted and I see its contents. What I need is a one click method to run a file to mount all the disks. I tried Apple script but that didn't like my commands. I don't know exactly what it is expecting to see and perhaps Apple script is the wrong tool. I have no problems in Linux, but the Mac is new to me and I don't know what I should be using.     Does anyone know how to tell windows 7 to bar a wireless network? It keeps logging into a random open one with no bandwidth my neighbors have instead of the good one we have here. I keep unchecking "automatically log in if available" and it keeps re-checking itself. I want it to NEVER log into this network no matter what without manual intervention. I do not want to disable auto connecting, just tell it "do not ever connect to this one without my express permission".

    It's been a while since I made a portable (Office 2007) Thinapp application, and since then I've uninstalled VMWare from my machine to free up space, so I'd like to know if someone already knows the answer to this before I set up everything again to try it. I'm thinking of installing a visual style (*.msstyles, for XP) along with the application to thinapp before post-setup capture. Failing that, maybe I'll try with visual mods such as Windows Blinds. The purpose is to be able to run a portable application with a specific visual style. So my question is: Is it possible? (I believe it somehow is, since VirtualBox does something similar to XP Mode) If it is, will it work on a computer with the "classic" Windows style? If it's not, will it work with another virtualization software? (Xenocode?) If it's not possible with *.msstyles, will it work with visual mods such as Windows Blinds? Thanks for any input!     I'd like to set up an environment where I can use VNC to remotely support my clients over the internet. No VPNs involved. I've used the UltraVNC repeater in the past, but the problem is that it requires a dedicated Windows server. What I'd like to do is as follows: VNC Client (me) - NAT - Internet - NAT - VNC Server (the person I'm offering support to) I'd basically like the same functionality that the UltraVNC repeater offers, but the only internet environment I have to host something on is a Linux shared server (standard hosting - PHP, Apache, etc.). Requirements: Multiple platform support for both Client and Server - specifically Mac and Windows Allows for connection with multiple NATs involved (Client and Server side) Will allow me to use my existing hosting environment for any repeater that might be involved I believe the way this would work is that the Server (the person I'm offering support to) when online would connect to a listener on the internet. When they needed support I would connect my Client to the same listener, see them connected, and use the listener (man-in-the-middle) to piggyback my Client to connect to their Server. I'm open to using any software (not limiting myself to VNC) but would prefer a FOSS solution (which is why I'm leaning towards VNC). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to let hard drive sleep in RAID1 configuration?

    Normally in Windows 7 a hard drive stops spinning when it is not used for a longer while. This can be configured in Windows and I use it on computers which are turned on 24/7 but not used much often. My problem is on a computer with Intel X79 chipset with an integrated RAID controller. There is Windows 7 installed on an SSD drive, and there is RAID1 array with two SATA HDD drives for data. Those SATA drives aren't used much so I'd like to let them sleep (i.e stop spinning). But they ignore settings in Windows. How to let them sleep when using RAID1? It seems to me that those drives are "unstoppable", they are spinning 24/7 even when they aren't used at all. Maybe they would behave normally if I used Windows-based software RAID, but I use hardware RAID controller. Is there a way to let them stop spinning and sleep after for example 3 or 5 hours of inactivity (i.e. the same way as they would behave in Windows without RAID)?

  • Neophyte question about using Subtotal and CountIf in Excel

    Hi, I'm using Excel and having some problems with Countif and I don't understand how it works differently from SubTotal. I used the GUI to subtotal stuff and all the subtotals are right. Then I attempted to use the Countif to see how many requirements passed. That worked for the first subtotal only. It's easy to see why. When I look at the box for the subtotal, it says: =SUBTOTAL(3,C286:C292) When I look at my formula for passed requirements, I have: =IF(ISTEXT(A285),COUNTIF(C286:C338,"=Passed"),"") Notice that the last column is wrong. How did the Subtotal manage to keep this correct? I typed in the formula for passed requirements and dragged it down the page. Everything behaved as expected (even the bit about ISTEXT dutifully figured out which row was which), but it got the last row wrong. Any ideas?     The fans on both of my HP Compaq 610s are constantly on and the base is fairly hot and I don't know if this is standard issue. HP assures me that this is unusual and that I should return them as DOA. Because both laptops have this problem, I'm thinking that this might be a design flaw rather than a one-off problem. I've updated the BIOS and using their recommended power settings. Am I missing something? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

    My win7-64 ultimate has set the clock ahead 2 hours. It appears to have done it in increments of 1 hour, with the second 1 hour shift made sometime today. The first, correct, shift for Daylight Savings was sunday morning. In the clock settings it says Mountain Time UTC-7, but the official time should be Mountain Time UTC-6. Update for Windows 7 (KB979306) IS installed. Microsoft appears to be able to turn even setting the clock into a hairball. I need the clock rock solid since I use the computer to record TV programs.

For example, I may # mail user1 to send mail to user1. User are not able to send mail to public. Some service like hylafax using this local mail service to send notification of fax status. I don't want to manage and maintain local mail service anymore. I have subscribed a package from ISP to host a public domain of my own. I wish to have my hylafax service to able to send the notification mails to public mail server, is that possible to do it? It is great if all mails that send to local mail server may forward to public mail server. That makes the local mail service serve mail forward only.

  • VPN to Buffalo WHR-HP-G300N produces a Connection Error 807

    My friend has modem/router from Clear and I have sent him Buffalo router to put it between his Clear device and the Network. I walked him thru establishing VPN in DD-WRT but when I try to VPN I get a VPN Connection Error 807. I am out of ideas how to solve this. Any suggestion?   • Problem opening files with Gvim and NERDTree on Windows 7

    Just installed gvim on windows 7 for the first time, and I'm having a problem opening some files. When I open files (I'm doing this through NERDTree,) vim seems to flash up a cmd window for a few second before closing it (too quickly to make out the contents,) and I end up with a C:/Program folder, and a /Files/vim/vimfiles/doc/ in the directory of the file I just opened. I can see it's trying to access C:/Program Files/vim/vimfiles/doc, which is where vim is installed, however it's choking on the space, and I'm not familiar enough with gvim to work out why. Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated.

  • Mouse-usable alt-tab for windows 7

    I'm using Windows 7 with ye good olde Windows 2000 style (I favor usability and space over fancy-pants aero and effects) and am looking for a way I can make the ALT-TAB-Control interactable with my mouse. I generally have many many windows open, and pressing tab or shift-tab over and over again begings to really frustrate me, if i want to reach a certain program. Of course, I could just select the program on my taskbar, but that takes even longer. I really like the way mac os x has its alt-tab menu - more or less exactly the same, but I can select the program with my mouse. Is there something like that for my environment?

  • Printer keeps going offline in Windows 7 XP Mode

    Every time I reboot the computer, the printer in Windows 7 XP mode goes offline. I have to go back into the full XP mode and attach the printer again to make it work. I have the settings set to automatically attach the printer, but it doesn't appear to be working. Any ideas what might make it automatically re-attach? Does anyone see this working?

  • Why does my audio keep reverting to stereo?

    I have an ASUS P7P55D LE motherboard with onboard sound and I am running Windows 7 64-bit, and I am using the SPDIF output from my motherboard to my receiver. On my receiver I can see which audio channels are in use (i.e. stereo or 5.1) In the audio interface properties I can test DTS Audio and Dolby Digital outputs and both work fine, but when I try to play a game with 5.1 sound (I've tried Left 4 Dead and Dragon Age Origins) it reverts to stereo. I was getting this behaviour with the default Microsoft drivers so I installed the latest from the ASUS website but there is no difference. I notice that in the Advanced tab the Default Format only allows me to choose from various 2 channel formats so maybe that is something to do with it? How can I get 5.1 output all of the time?
