  • Bash or Zsh - which one and why?

    So, the question pretty much says it all. I'm on Snow Leopard, and I do a lot of web development, particularly in Rails 3 which makes heavy use of the console. I've seen some notable bloggers etc. mention Zsh as their preference over Bash, but I don't know what difference it would make. Could anyone give me a good comparison of what difference there is and what might make one prefer one option or the other? Thanks!

  • Slow Query log for just one database

    can I enable the slow query log specifically for just one database? What I've done currently is to take the entire log into excel and then run a pivot report to work out which database is the slowest. So i've gone and done some changes to that application in the hope of reducing the slow query occurence. rather than running my pivot report again which took a bit of time to cleanse the data i'd rather just output slow queries from the one database possible?

  • No Connectivity to ESX guests on one server

    I have a number of ESX servers hosting VM's, all but one of these works ok, however one server has a problem where any guests on not contactable over the network. The ESX hosts is contactable, is integrated int VCenter, and you can even live migrate VM's to and from this server, but any VM's on that server are unable to talk to the rest of the network. The VM's NIC is shown as Up and has the right IP configuration, and as soon as you move it back to another host it works fine.

I haven't heard anything about the quality on the Nexus though. Otherwise they seem pretty neck and neck. What do you guys think?

  • Postfix cannot deliver mail to Cyrus mailbox on Ubuntu 11.10 server

    I have installed and configured Postfix and Cyrus IMAP server with webcyradm according to this document - http://www.delouw.ch/linux/Postfix-Cyrus-Web-cyradm-HOWTO/html/index.html . I can access webcyradm interface, I can create new domains and new users, and I can login via IMAP after creating the user account. However, Postfix fails to deliver mail to cyrus mailboxes. Mail log contains errors shown below. Installing any IMAP server other than cyrus is not an option because it is needed by the web application. Please advise me how to make Postfix deliver email to cyrus mailboxes. The solution should not necessary include web-cyradm, but there should be a web interface for managing mail domains and mailboxes as user-friendly as possible.     Feeding off of this post. I have a domain with Dreamhost and i've purchased SSL certificate for it. I am moving over the server files to Linode but and setting the DNS in dreamhost to point over. Linode provides a ip but it's not dedicated. What is going to happen to SSL on that dreamhost IP when I switch over the DNS to linode? I have one virtual host can I host multiple domains while using SSL for one?

  • Zabbix not getting data for one filesystem

    I have Zabbix monitoring disk space for several volumes on several servers. It works fine on all of them except for one of the volumes on one of the servers which always reports as 0. However, when I run ./zabbix_get -s localhost -p 10050 -k 'vfs.fs.size[/home, free]' locally on the machine in question, it gives me the correct, non-zero size which matches the output of df. How can I go about troubleshooting and correcting this problem?

    Is it possible to generate an FLV out of an MP3 and a JPG, without uselessly looping the image and still be able to seek the audio ? This command generates a non-seekable video: ffmpeg -y -i audio.mp3 -i image.jpg -r 1 -acodec copy video.flv and this one generates a seekable one, but with uselessly looping the image occupying both space and time: ffmpeg -y -loop_input -i audio.mp3 -i image.jpg -r 1 -acodec copy video.flv -shortest

    Excel - pivot values in one cell (as comma-separated value) I have two columns of data: Supplier1|Product1 Supplier1|Product2 Supplier1|Product4 Supplier1|Product7 Supplier2|Product3 Supplier2|Product5 I want to 'pivot' around Supplier, and give the list of products in one single cell, comma-separated e.g. Supplier1|Product1,Product2,Product4,Product7 Supplier2|Product3,Product5 There's about 1000 suppliers, and 0 < products <= 10. My current workaround involves using pivot tables, saving as CSV etc and is very messy. A non-VBA solution would be amazing.

I enabled "annonymous access" iis on that subfolder and that worked. but i am using AJAX(timer control) on one of page of that subfolder and when timer_ticks it gives "sys is undefined error". any idea to solve this issue?     I've got a server where a number of users are sharing user logins for a short period of time to prevent too many people from logging in at the same time. The users are connecting over remote desktop, but the problem is that when one user is busy doing something, another user logs in as the same user and disconnects the active session. Is there any way of preventing one user from logging in and disconnecting the same username who is already connected to somewhere else?

    Hi, I'm using Hibernate with annotations (in spring), and I have an object which has an ordered, many-to-one relationship which a child object which has a composite primary key, one component of which is a foreign key back to the id of the parent object. This is the closest I've been able to come up with: @Entity public class ParentObject { @Column(nullable=false, updatable=false) private String id; @OneToMany(mappedBy="object", fetch=FetchType.EAGER) @IndexColumn(name = "pos", base=0) private List<ObjectChild> attrs; ... } @Entity public class ChildObject { @Embeddable public static class Pk implements Serializable { @Column(nullable=false, updatable=false) private String objectId; @Column(nullable=false, updatable=false) private String name; @Column(nullable=false, updatable=false) private int pos; ... } @EmbeddedId private Pk pk; @ManyToOne @JoinColumn(name="parentId") private ParentObject parent; ... } I arrived at this after a long bout of experimentation in which most of my other attempts yielded entities which hibernate couldn't even load for various reasons. The error I get when I try to read one of these objects (they seem to save OK), I get an error of this form: org.hibernate.exception.SQLGrammarException: could not initialize a collection: ... And the root cause is this: com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.MySQLSyntaxErrorException: Unknown column 'attrs0_.id' in 'field list' I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but the documentation is not clear on this matter, and I haven't been able to find any examples of this anywhere else.
