GlassFish Extension for Oracle JDeveloper by Shay Shmeltzer We just release a new version of Oracle JDeveloper - 11.1.2.3. One new feature here is built-in support for GlassFish. This include the ability to create an "application server" connection to GlassFish and then deploy to that server with one click from inside JDeveloper. You can use this for deploying Oracle ADF Essentials application on Glassfish, but you can also use it to deploy any Java EE application you build in JDeveloper on GlassFish. However, if you are planning to work with GlassFish and JDeveloper on a more regular basis as your development server, then you might find my new extension useful. The new extension allows you to start and stop an external GlassFish instance, as well as start it in debug mode (which will allow JDeveloper to remotely debug your application as it runs on the server. I also added a button that will invoke the web admin console of Glassfish. Here is a quick demo that will show you how to work with the extension. End User Documentation Enhancements The following summarize the highlights of changes made to the documentation in conjunction with the new Brazil-related functionality: Foundation chapter in the Oracle Retail Merchandising System (RMS)/Sales Audit (ReSA) Brazil Localization User GuideThis chapter was updated with a non-base Localization Flexible Attribution Solution (LFAS) section that addresses the addition of several new custom attributes to Items and Suppliers through non-base LFAS for Brazil; it also addresses the extension of the Retail Tax Integration Layer (RTIL) through the Oracle Retail Merchandising System (RMS), and Oracle Retail Fiscal Management System (ORFM).  ORFM User GuideThe Purchase Order chapter was updated to include schedule related updates for a Nota Fiscal. The Fiscal Documents chapter was updated to include information on creating a new NF and searching for details using Vendor Product Number. Oracle Retail Fiscal Management/RMS Brazil Localization Implementation GuideThe Implementation Checklist chapter was updated with a note on multi-currency functionality. The Batch Processes chapter was updated with information on the NF EDI batch. Here are some suggested sites and activities to experience after OpenWorld that aren’t too far from the Moscone Center. It is recommended to take a cab for the sake of time, but the 6 square miles that make up San Francisco will make for a quick trek to any of the following destinations: The Golden Gate BridgeAn image often associated with San Francisco, this bridge is one of the most impressive in the world. Take a walk across it, or view it from nearby Crissy Field, it is a sight that floors even the most veteran of San Franciscans. The Ferry BuildingLocated at the end of Market Street in the Embarcadero, the Ferry Building once served as a hub of water transport and trade. The building has a bay front view and an array of food choices and restaurants. It is easily accessible via the Muni, BART, trolley or by cab. It is a must-see in San Francisco, and not too far from the Moscone Center. Ride the Trolley to the CastroFor only $2, you can get go back in history for a moment on the Trolley. Take the F-line from the Embarcadero and ride it all the way to the Castro district. While it may be perceived as grungy in certain spots, it is one of the most photographed places in San Francisco and an integral part of San Franciscan history.

    Currently, I am working on a product where we have an SMS text advertising system, and using this, we setup advertising campaigns for clients, and later these campaigns are sent to the end users. This is very similar to Google Adwords, but targeted to Mobile users via SMS. Just to give an overview of the system Each Campaign is mapped to an advertiser Campaign has start date and end date Campaign has a filter condition(s) or query to select the target user base from our database (to whom we send Campaigns) Target user base can be fixed, for e.g send campaign to 10000 users Target user base can also be dynamic based on query condition, for e.g send campaign to users who are active and from a particular state, district, town etc. (this way user base will be keep changing on daily basis) Campaign can have multiple campaign messages Each campaign message has start date and end date Each campaign message can have multiple message texts for different locales, for e.g English,Hindi,Telugu etc After creating an advertisement campaign, we run daily night job to provision the target user base for that a particular campaign in a separate table, and another daily job runs on morning times and checks provisioned table for campaigns and targeted users and sends the campaign to users via SMS. Problem is, current UI for creating advertising campaigns is designed in a very technical manner, I mean, normal user or business owner or clients can not use the UI to create a campaign. Below are reasons why the UI is very technical in nature Filter condition(s) or query input filed, takes user ids or mobile numbers or SQL queries. Most of times or almost every time, we use big SQL queries So we end up storing SQL queries in a database for a campaign, later we use this SQL query to fetch targeted user base. For scheduling these campaigns, we have input filed on UI which takes quartz cron expression(s) ( for e.g. send campaign on "0 0 9 1-10 MAR 2012" ), again very technical in nature Normal user or business owner, can not use the UI for creating campaigns for reasons mentioned above, Currently, we ourself (developers) helping clients to setup/create campaigns. we are trying to re-design the UI to make it more user friendly so that any user can go to UI and create an advertisement campaign by himself. I am thinking of re-designing the current UI similar to Google Adwords interface, especially for selecting target users based on user geography like country, state, city etc. I also need to select users based user subscription(s), which might make system even more complex. And also, for campaign scheduling, I am thinking of using weekdays with hours. For example, I will shows Monday to Sunday on UI, and user can select the from hours, to hours etc. Any better ideas or suggestion on how to design UI in very user friendly manner and what design should be followed on server side code (we write backend code on java/jpa/spring/quartz)? And I am looking for ideas or design patterns on how to build SQL queries (using JPA/Hinernate) programmatically on server side, based on varies conditions like based on country, state, town, village, and user subscriptions.

    by guest blogger Yara Senger With over 2900 developers in person and another 2000 online, The Developer's Conference (TDC) in Florianópolis, Brazil, reminds us that Java is BIG in Brazil. The conference included 20 different tracks, and Java was the most popular track. Java was also a big part of the talks in the IoT, Cloud and BigData tracks. Here's my overview (in Brazilian Portguese): Several JUGs were involved in TDC Florianópolis, serving as track leads, speakers and all-around heros, including SouJava SouJava Campinas GUJava Santa Catarina JUG Vale JUG Maringá Java Bahia GOJava (Goinia) JUG Rio do Sul RS Jug (Rio Grande do Sul) and I thank them for their support and commitment. It is a vibrant and fun community! We saw that the IoT space is maturing rapidly. There are already some related to embedded in the region.  Java Evangelist Bruno Borges and Marco Antonio Maciel gave a view popular talk "Java: Tweet for Beer!" They demonstrated how to make a beer tap controlled by Java and connected to the Internet, using a visual application JavaFX with Java SE 8, running on a Rasperry Pi. Of course, they had to test the application quite throughly.   We Brazilians are training the next generation of Java developers. TDC4Kids was as big success. We made a tour with the kids in all booths and almost everybody talked about Java. Java in government managment (Betha), Java on the 2048  (Oracle), Java on the popcorn machine and Java training (Globalcode & V.Office) and of course: Java & Minecraft! OTN's Pablo Ciccarello was there to support the community.  He did several video interviews with JUG leaders and speakers (mine included).
