vsftpd status stop/waiting Ubuntu

I'm trying to configure ftp over amazon EC2 instance, I've installed vsftpd and did the steps of adding user and modifying the vsftpd.conf file, but I'm getting my service status as ubuntu@ip-10-38-106-212:~$ sudo service vsftpd status vsftpd stop/waiting I've tried to reinstall vsftpd but still getting the same, I've also added the port 20 and 21 in my security group policy to skip the firewall. Can anyone tell me how to check whats wrong with this vsftpd, why its stopped and not coming into running state. Thank u

I have this variable named age which I want to pass to server.php file where I can construct the XML or JSON. Is there a way to use keys to select a range? Do I need to create some kind of intermediate data node? Is there a different route that shows I'm barking up the wrong tree with both those suggestions? Is this even possible with XSLT or do I need to find a way to change the data source?

Hi, Is there a way to calculate a time stamp for the next coming up of a week day? So for instance, with friday, i'd like to be able to run some code that calculates that from today Wednesday 19/05/10, the next friday will be 21/05/10 and get a time stamp from it. I know the date command can parse a given string date according to a format, but I can't figure out how to calculate "next friday from today" Any idea? Cheers Ben

how to determine base of a number?

Given a integer number and its reresentation in some arbitrary number system. The purpose is to find the base of the number system. For example, number is 10 and representation is 000010, then the base should be 10. Another example: number 21 representation is 0010101 then base is 2. Fastest way to compute a "Visual" checksum of an image

I'm looking to create an ID system for cataloging images. I can't use md5() since that will change if I alter the EXIF tags of the image. I am currently using the SHA1 checksum computed by imagemagick. It works perfectly, but it's really, really slow on larger images (~15 seconds on a quad-core xeon for a 21 megapixel JPG). Are there any other "visual" methods of uniquely identifying an image that would be faster? Thank you.

WPF performance for large number of elements on the screen

Im currently trying to create a Scene in WPF where I have around 250 controls on my screen and the user can Pan and Zoom in and out of these controls using the mouse. I have run the WPF Performance Suite tools on the application when there are a large number of these controls on the screen (i.e. when the user has zoomed right out) the FPS drops down to around 15 which is not very good. I have a small webapplication called StatsGen I want to include in other projects, and for convenience I'd like to have the settings inside the bin folder, in a config file with an appropriate name, in my case: StatsGen.config. So I've put these line in the web.config (as explained in the answer I mentioned above): <configSections> <section name="StatsGenSettings" restartOnExternalChanges="true" type="System.Configuration.NameValueFileSectionHandler" />  </configSections> <StatsGenSettings configSource="StatsGen.config"></StatsGenSettings>  Inside the bin folder, I created a StatsGen.xml file, then renamed it to StatsGen.config. Can you set a gradient brush for a listboxitem background in silverlight?

I am looking for a way to set a gradientbrush as the background for a listbox item. I have a DataTemplate defined and have specified a gradient brush but it always appears as the listbox background (i.e. it never shows as a gradient brush). I have been able to set the background of the listbox itself, and I can set the listboxitem's background to a standard color using the "setter" object....but none of these are what I am after. I really want the background on each list item to be a gradient brush. Has anyone gotten VB highlighting to work in Emacs23?

I have found and installed the visual basic mode for emacs. It seems to be loading on emacs startup and the VB mode loads when I open a *.bas file. The code is not highlighted at all, however. I'm using Emacs23, tried it with 21 and saw no difference. Background for the curious: I am rewriting a set of codes from VB to Python. The syntax highlighting will make it much easier for me to see what's going on.
