  • Resumable upload from Java client to Grails web application?

    After almost 2 workdays of Googling and trying several different possibilities I found throughout the web, I'm asking this question here, hoping that I might finally get an answer. First of all, here's what I want to do: I'm developing a client and a server application with the purpose of exchanging a lot of large files between multiple clients on a single server. The client is developed in pure Java (JDK 1.6), while the web application is done in Grails (2.0.0). As the purpose of the client is to allow users to exchange a lot of large files (usually about 2GB each), I have to implement it in a way, so that the uploads are resumable, i.e. the users are able to stop and resume uploads at any time. Here's what I did so far: I actually managed to do what I wanted to do and stream large files to the server while still being able to pause and resume uploads using raw sockets. I would send a regular request to the server (using Apache's HttpClient library) to get the server to send me a port that was free for me to use, then open a ServerSocket on the server and connect to that particular socket from the client. Here's the problem with that: Actually, there are at least two problems with that: I open those ports myself, so I have to manage open and used ports myself. This is quite error-prone. I actually circumvent Grails' ability to manage a huge amount of (concurrent) connections. Finally, here's what I'm supposed to do now and the problem: As the problems I mentioned above are unacceptable, I am now supposed to use Java's URLConnection/HttpURLConnection classes, while still sticking to Grails. Connecting to the server and sending simple requests is no problem at all, everything worked fine. The problems started when I tried to use the streams (the connection's OutputStream in the client and the request's InputStream in the server). Opening the client's OutputStream and writing data to it is as easy as it gets. But reading from the request's InputStream seems impossible to me, as that stream is always empty, as it seems. But as that is exactly what I'm trying to do (so I can stream the file to be uploaded to the server, read from the InputStream and save it to a file), this is rather disappointing. I tried different HTTP methods, different data payloads, and also rearranged the code over and over again, but did not seem to be able to solve the problem. What I hope to find I hope to find a solution to my problem, of course. Anything is highly appreciated: hints, code snippets, library suggestions and so on. Maybe I'm even having it all wrong and need to go in a totally different direction. So, how can I implement resumable file uploads for rather large (binary) files from a Java client to a Grails web application without manually opening ports on the server side?

    In OpenSolaris OS, when I run makefile generated by Eclipse CDT on the Linux OS, I get an error on the first -include line. The same error was in FreeBSD, and was solved by executing gmake instead of make. In OpenSolaris (just installed) gmake doesn't work (command not found). What package should I install and how exactly, to build Linux-generated C++ project in OpenSolaris?

    Hello, I need to rename all the files in a directory. Some examples of the source filenames are: alpha--sometext.381928 comp--moretext.7294058 The resultant files would be renamed as: alpha.sometext.381928 comp.moretext.7294058 The number of characters before and after the -- is not consistant. The script needs to work on current installations of Ubuntu and FreeBSD. These are lean LAMP servers so only the necessary packages have been installed. Thanks

  • Using the SOA-BPM VIrtualBox Appliance

    Quickstart Guide to Using Oracle Appliance for SOA/BPM Recently I have been setting up some machines for fellow engineers.  My base setup consists of Oracle Enterprise Linux with Oracle Virtual Box.  Note that after installing VirtualBox I needed to add the VirtualBox Extension Pack to enable RDP access amongst other features.  In order to get them started quickly with some images I downloaded the pre-built appliance for SOA/BPM from OTN. Out of the box this provides a VirtualBox image that is pre-installed with everything you will need to develop SOA/BPM applications. Specifically by using the virtual appliance I got the following pre-installed and configured. Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 User oracle password oracle User root password oracle. Oracle Database XE Pre-configured with SOA/BPM repository. Set to auto-start on OS startup. Oracle SOA Suite 11g PS2 Configured with a “collapsed domain”, all services (SOA/BAM/EM) running in AdminServer. Listening on port 7001 Oracle BPM Suite 11g Configured in same domain as SOA Suite. Oracle JDeveloper 11g With SOA/BPM extensions. Networking The VM by default uses NAT (Network Address Translation) for network access.  Make sure that the advanced settings for port forwarding allow access through the host to guest ports.  It should be pre-configured to forward requests on the following ports Purpose Host Port Guest Port (VBox Image) SSH 2222 22 HTTP 7001 7001 Database 1521 1521 Note that only one VirtualBox image can use a given host port, so make sure you are not clashing if it seems not to work. What’s Left to Do? There is still some customization of the environment that may be required. If you need to configure a proxy server as I did then for the oracle and root users to set up an HTTP proxy Added “export http_proxy=http://proxy-host:proxy-port” to ~oracle/.bash_profile and ~root/.bash_profile Added “export http_proxy=http://proxy-host:proxy-port” to /etc/.bashrc Edited System->Preferences to set Network Proxy In Firefox set Preferences->Network->Connection Settings to “Use system proxy settings” In JDeveloper set Edit->Preferences->Web Browser and Proxy to required proxy settings You may need to configure yum to point to a public OEL yum repository – such as http://public-yum.oracle.com. If you are going to be accessing the SOA server from outside the VirtualBox image then you may want to set the soa-infra Server URLs to be the hostname of the host OS. Snap! Once I had the machine configured how I wanted to use it I took a snapshot so that I can always get back to the pristine install I have now.  Snapshots are one of the big benefits of putting a development environment into a virtualized environment.  I can make changes to my installation and if I mess it up I can restore the image to a last known good snapshot. Hey Presto!, Ready to Go This is the quickest way to get up and running with SOA/BPM Suite.  Out of the box the download will work, I only did extra customization so I could use services outside the firewall and browse outside the firewall from within by SOA VirtualBox image.  I also use yum to update the OS to the latest binaries. So have fun.

    We have a two parter this week, with this post focusing on desktop virtualization and the next one on server virtualization. Question: Why would I use the Oracle Secure Global Desktop Secure Gateway? Answer by Rick Butland, Principal Sales Consultant, Oracle Desktop Virtualization: Well, for the benefit of those who might not be familiar with client connections in Oracle Secure Global Desktop (SGD), let me back up and briefly explain. An SGD client connects to an SGD server using two distinct protocols, which, by default, require two distinct TCP ports. The first is the HTTP protocol, used by the web browser to connect to the SGD webserver on TCP port 80, or if secure connections are enabled (SSL/TLS), then TCP port 443, commonly identified as the "HTTPS" port, that is, "SSL encrypted HTTP." The second protocol from the client to the server is the Adaptive Internet Protocol, or AIP, which is used for displaying applications, transferring drive mapping data, print jobs, and so on. By default, AIP uses the TCP port 3104, or port 5307 when SSL is enabled. When SGD clients need to access SGD over a firewall, the ports that AIP requires are typically "closed"; and most administrators are reluctant, to put it mildly, to change their firewall configurations to allow AIP traffic on 3144/5307.   To avoid this problem, SGD introduced "Firewall Forwarding", a technique where, in effect, both http and AIP traffic are "multiplexed" onto a single "well-known" TCP port, that is port 443, the https port.  This is also known as single-port firewall traversal.  This technique takes advantage of the fact that, as a "well-known service", port 443 is usually "open",   allowing (encrypted) traffic to pass. At the target SGD server, the two protocols are de-multiplexed and routed appropriately. The Secure Gateway was developed in response to requirements from customers for SGD to support multi-stage DMZ's, and to avoid exposing SGD servers and the information they contain directly to connections from the Internet. The Secure Gateway acts as a reverse-proxy in the first-tier of the DMZ, accepting, authenticating, and terminating incoming client connections, and then re-encrypting the connections, and proxying them, routing them on to SGD servers, deeper in the network. The client no longer needs to know the name/IP address of the SGD servers in their network, they connect to the gateway, only. The gateway takes care of those internal network details.     The Secure Gateway supports the same "single-port firewall" capability as does "Firewall Forwarding", but offers the additional advantage of load-balancing incoming client connections amongst SGD array members, which could be cumbersome without a forward-deployed secure gateway. Load-balancing weights and policies can be monitored and tuned using the "Balancer Manager" application, and Apache mod_proxy_balancer directives.   Going forward, our architects recommend the use of the Secure Gateway over "Firewall Forwarding" for single-port firewall traversal, due to its architectural advantages, its greater flexibility and enhanced features.  Finally, it should be noted that the Secure Gateway is not separately priced; any licensed SGD customer may use the Secure Gateway component at no additional cost.   For more information, see the "Secure Gateway Administrator's Guide".

  • BizTalk 2009 - The Community ODBC Adapter: Schema Generation

    Having previously detailed the installation of the Community ODBC Adapter for BizTalk 2009, the next thing I will be looking at is the generation of schemas using this ODBC adapter. Within your BizTalk 2009 project, right click the project and select Add Generated Items.  In the resultant window choose Add Adapter Metadata and click Add to open the Add Adapter Wizard. Check that the BizTalk Server and Database names are correct, select the ODBC adapter and click next. You must now set the connection string. To start with choose set, then new DSN (data source name). You now need to define the Data Source you will be connecting to.  On the User DSN tab select Add add then driver you want to use. In this case I am going to use the MySQL ODBC Driver.  A User DSN will only be visible on the current machine with you as a user. * Although I initially set up a User DSN and this was fine for creating schemas with, I later realised that you actually need a system DSN as the BizTalk host service needs this to be able connect to the database on a receive or send port. You will then be asked to Set up the MySQL ODBC Data Source.  In my case this is a local database making use of named pipes, so I had to make sure that I ticked the "Force use of named pipes" check box and removed the "# The Pipe the MySQL Server will use socket=mysql" line from the mysql.ini; with this is place the connection would fail as there is no apparent way to specify the pipe name in the ODBC driver configuration. This will then update the User DSN tab with the new Data Source.  Make sure that you select it and press OK. Select it again in the Choose Data Source window and press OK.  On the ODBC transport window select next. You will now be presented with the Schema Information window, where you must supply the namespace, type and root element names for your schema. Next choose the type of statement that you will be using to create your schema - in this case I am using a stored procedure. *I later discovered that this option is fine for MySQL stored procedures without input parameters, but failed for MySQL stored procedures with input parameters.  (I will be posting on the way to handle input parameters soon) Next you will need to specify the name of the stored procedure.  In this case I have a simple stored procedure to return all the data held by my TestTable in MySQL. Select * from TestTable; The table itself has three columns: Name, Sex and Married. Selecting finish should now hopefully create your schemas based on the input and output from your stored procedure. In my case I have:   An empty schema for the request; after all I have no parameters for the stored procedure.  A response schema comprised of a Table Record with Name, Sex and Married children.   • Supermicro IPMI on MBD-X8DAH+-F-O motherboard. Keyboard and mouse do not work after booting Windows Server 2008 R2

    Hell Everyone, I built a server with the mentioned motherboard. I installed Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise on this server. IPMI is integrated on the motherboard with its own dedicated NIC. I've got that NIC configured with its own IP address. I can remote into it using IPMI, and I can remotely control the server settings before booting the OS ( BIOS, RAID configuration, etc). When the OS boots, I lose the mouse and keyboard. I cannot use the keyboard or mouse when installing the OS either. So the Keyboard and Mouse only work when no OS is loaded. Once the OS loads I lose it - that is my problem. I've been doing some research and trying a few things, but I have not been successful in fixing this issue. I may be wrong, but based on the things I've found online, it seems that the problem could be caused by the way the OS handles USB. The server is headless. There is no keyboard, mouse, or monitor plugged into it. When I boot up the OS and remote into it, I cannot see a mouse or keyboard listed in the Device Manager. Based on what I've read, it seems that the OS should detect a mouse and a keyboard when connecting remotely via IPMI. The following are the solutions I've tried. Nothing has worked so far: I've updated the firmware of the IPMI component to the latest firmware - 1.33. I made sure that the mouse mode was set to Absolute (Windows OS). I've loaded the factory defaults several times. I've enabled Port64h/60h Emulation under the USB settings in the BIOS. I've disabled USB legacy support in the BIOS. I made sure the firewall wasn't blocking IPMI (disabled the firewall). And that's about it. I've found threads in some forums from people having the same issue as me, but they were not running the same OS. They were either running Linux or FreeBSD. Most of them fixed their problem by selecting the right mouse mode (Linux in their case). There was one other that solved the problem by disabling USB Mass Storage mode. He stated "When I set it to disable USB Mass Storage when no image is loaded, the ukbd came alive, and I'm typing this on the IPMI Console. I've found several threads on the internet with issues describing the same problem, but none of them were with Windows Server 2008 R2. Again, I may be wrong, but it seems like that could be the issue. I just don't know how I go about applying a solution in Windows Server 2008 R2. In any case, I could use your expertise.   • Replicating between Cloud and On-Premises using Oracle GoldenGate

    Do you have applications running on the cloud that you need to connect with the on premises systems. The most likely answer to this question is an astounding YES!  If so, then you understand the importance of keep the data fresh at all times across the cloud and on-premises environments. This is also one of the key focus areas for the new GoldenGate 12c release which we announced couple of week ago via a press release. Most enterprises have spent years avoiding the data “silos” that inhibit productivity. For example, an enterprise which has adopted a CRM strategy could be relying on an on-premises based marketing application used for developing and nurturing leads. At the same time it could be using a SaaS based Sales application to create opportunities and quotes. The sales and the marketing teams which use these systems need to be able to access and share the data in a reliable and cohesive way. This example can be extended to other applications areas such as HR, Supply Chain, and Finance and the demands the users place on getting a consistent view of the data. When it comes to moving data in hybrid environments some of the key requirements include minimal latency, reliability and security: Data must remain fresh. Option 2 – Restricted network established between the cloud and on-premises A restricted network is established between the cloud and on-premises instances which enable certain ports (required by replication) be opened on both the cloud and on the on-premises instances and white lists the IP addresses of the cloud and on-premises instances. Option 3 – Restricted network access from on-premises and cloud through HTTP proxy This option can be considered when the ports required by the applications (including replication software) are not open and the cloud instance is not white listed on the on-premises instance. This option of tunneling through HTTP proxy may be only considered when proper security exceptions are obtained.   • James - mail server configuration help needed

    Hi, I am trying to setup James mail server on a linux machine. The linux machine has public static ip address assigned. I installed James and added in the config.xml added the servername as mydomain.com. In the DNS for mydomain.com, I have created a A-record, say mx.mydomain.com, which corresponds to the ipaddress of the above mail server machine. Then added mx.mydomain.com as MX record for mydomain.com. In James, I have created a new user test. Then from gmail, I sent a mail to [email protected]. The mail is not received back and it didn't even bounce back. The linux machine is behind a firewall with only 22, 80, 8080 ports open for external network. My question here is, Do I require do open any other ports on the firewall so that the mail I send from gmail arrives to James? If it's not the port problem, any views on solving this issue? I don't want to send mails from this server. It's only for receiving the mails.

    There is a functionality in my module, where the user can scan the number of serial ports in the system and when the user clicks "Auto scan" button, the code will have to go through each serial port and send a test message and wait for the reply. I am using Progress bar control to show process of autoscan. For which i need to pass the value to "x" and "Y" in my code to update the bar. How can i pass the value since my code is already in a foreach loop for getting the serialports. The DBT_DEVICEARRIVAL and DBT_DEVICEREMOVECOMPLETE events are automatically broadcast to all top-level windows for port devices. Therefore, it is not necessary to call RegisterDeviceNotification for ports, and the function fails if the dbch_devicetype member is DBT_DEVTYP_PORT. So, I am confused. How can I define the com-port of a device, if a get DBT_DEVNODES_CHANGED in WMDEVICECHANGE event?

  • Mixing NIO with IO

    Hi Usually you have a single bound tcp port and several connections on these. At least there are usually more connections as bound ports. My case is different: I want to bind a lot of ports and usually have no (or at least very few) connections. So I want to use NIO to accept the incoming connections. However, I need to pass the accepted connections to the existing jsch ssh library. That requires IO sockets instead of NIO sockets, it spawns one (or two) thread(s) per connection. But that's fine for me. Now, I thought that the following lines would deliver the very same result: Socket a = serverSocketChannel.accept().socket(); Socket b = serverSocketChannel.socket().accep(); SocketChannel channel = serverSocketChannel.accpet(); channel.configureBlocking( true ); Socket c = channel.socket(); Socket d = serverSocket.accept(); However the getInputStream() and getOutputStream() functions of the returned sockets seem to work different. Only if the socket was accepted using the last call, jsch can work with it. In the first three cases, it fails (and I am sorry: I don't know why). So is there a way to convert such a socket?   • GHC 6.12 and MacPorts

    I recently installed GHC 6.12 and the Haskell Platform 2010.1.0.1 on my Intel MacBook running OS X 10.5.8, and initially, everything worked fine. However, I discovered that if I use cabal install to install a package which depends on a MacPorts library (e.g., cabal install --extra-lib-dirs=/opt/local/lib --extra-include-dirs=/opt/local/include gd), things work fine in GHCi, but if I try to compile, I get the error Linking test ... Undefined symbols: "_iconv_close", referenced from: _hs_iconv_close in libHSbase-4.2.0.0.a(iconv.o) "_iconv", referenced from: _hs_iconv in libHSbase-4.2.0.0.a(iconv.o) "_iconv_open", referenced from: _hs_iconv_open in libHSbase-4.2.0.0.a(iconv.o) ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status After some Googling, I found a long Haskell-cafe thread discussing this problem. The upshot seems to be that MacPorts installs an updated version of libiconv, and the binary interface is slightly different from the version included with the system. Consequently, if you try to link with any MacPorts library, the MacPorts libiconv gets linked in too; and since the base library was built to link against a different version of libiconv, things break. I've tried setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH and DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH and adding more flags to try to get it to look at /usr/lib again (e.g. cabal install --extra-lib-dirs=/opt/local/lib --extra-include-dirs=/opt/local/include --extra-lib-dirs=/usr/lib --extra-include-dirs=/usr/include gd), but neither worked. Uninstalling the MacPorts libiconv isn't really an option, since I have a bunch of ports installed which depend on it---including some ports I want Haskell to link to, like gd2. From what I've seen online, the upshot really seems to be "you're boned": you cannot link against any MacPorts library while compiling with GHC, and there doesn't seem to be a solution. However, that thread was from the end of 2009, so I figure there's a chance that someone has a solution, workaround, ridiculous hack… anything, really. So: does anybody know how to get GHC 6.12 to link against the system libiconv at the same time as it links to libraries from MacPorts? Or, failing that, a way to make linking not break in some other clever way?

  • Tracing spoofed mobile phone numbers

    I am being harassed by some prank caller that is spoofing his/her number neither T-Mobile nor the police can do anything about it. I have been told from one of my friends that if I set up an Asterisk server, I can accomplish the tracing of the prank caller. I am hardly knowledgeable in terms of networking, so a lot of what they told me was filled with jargon I couldn't really understand. But first things first, I downloaded Asterisk 1.5.0 and was finally able to install it (had issues with partitioning... In the end I just had Asterisk hog the entire HDD space). I tried out Asterisk, and it was slightly complicated for me so I decided to install trixbox 2.8.0.4 instead. It looks very similar to Asterisk... I'm not entirely sure what to do from here. I know I have to get the server up and running, but do I need a PBX card or something to accomplish what I'm trying to do? I'm running trixbox on a laptop to minimize electricity usage. Also, will I have to open any ports for the server? I have limited administrative permissions because of my father who is very uncomfortable with opening ports.

  • Outgoing UDP sniffer in python?

    I want to figure out whether my computer is somehow causing a UDP flood that is originating from my network. So that's my underlying problem, and what follows is simply my non-network-person attempt to hypothesize a solution using python. I'm extrapolating from recipe 13.1 ("Passing Messages with Socket Datagrams") from the python cookbook (also here). Would it possible/sensible/not insane to try somehow writing an outgoing UDP proxy in python, so that outgoing packets could be logged before being sent on their merry way? If so, how would one go about it? Based on my quick research, perhaps I could start a server process listening on suspect UDP ports and log anything that gets sent, then forward it on, such as: import socket s =socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_DGRAM) s.bind(("", MYPORT)) while True: packet = dict(zip('data', 'addr'), s.recvfrom(1,024)) log.info("Recieved {data} from {addr}.".format(**packet)) But what about doing this for a large number of ports simultaneously? Impractical? Are there drawbacks or other reasons not to bother with this? Is there a better way to solve this problem (please be gentle).
