  I have just purchased a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard, and it has dual Realtek RTL8111D gigabit LAN ports. I also have an Intel PRO/1000 MT PCI gigabit network card lying around from an old desktop. I've heard that Intel PCI-E network cards will often outperform Realtek, Marvell, or other non-Intel on-board network adapters, but my question is will the PRO/1000 MT PCI card outperform a single Realtek RTL8111D gigabit network adapter in terms of transfer speed, or should I keep what I have/buy a PCI-E Intel network adapter?

• Set up DNS or F5 VIP to send traffic to a specific port

  I have a clustered SQL instance set up at SERVER01\dev08 It's assigned to a static port of 1466. Can I set up something which will let users connect to SERVER01 and hit that port? If this is possible, what problems might it create (all traffic coming to this name hitting only one port)? It seems that DNS has nothing to do with ports - nor does the F5 big IP.

• Linksys SRW248g4p and hp procurves

  We've got about 3 procurves linked up with about 5 linksys srw248g4p. Pinging between the Procurves I get ping time between 1-2 ms and pinging between the linksys the ping time are averaging 40 ms. I have evening tried pinging between two linksys switches that are connected to each other directly using the GB ports. There have no modification done to the switches and the firmware seems to be uptodate. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

• HP blade server: How many connection can be made between HP new gen 8 blades and an interconnect

  I am building a virtualized network on an HP C3000 with 460c Gen 8 blades and 2 HP L3 switch interconnects. I was advised to by a 1Gb 4-port 366M Mezzanine Adapter. That provides me 6 ethernet connections to each blade. I have been told that you can only make 2 connections to from each blade to each interconnect, but since I have to interconnectes and 6 ports I hope someone can tell me if I can make 3 connections from each server to each interconnect. • SMB starts but didn't show up in netstat

  I've running an SMB server at a SLES 10 server. The SMB server starts up well without error messages in log files. But it didn't show up when I try to check with netstat if the smb server is listening at the designated ports. I've no more ideas about how to fix this problem. Note - the SMB server worked well but after a reboot it shows the error described above.

  All I want is be able to use flash and javascript while using Tor (I don't intend to use it for torrents) Normally, using flash with Tor is not recommended because firefox plugins run outside of the sandbox, so the browser's proxy settings don't apply to them, and can reveal your real IP. But I think it should be possible to also redirect flash to the same socket as the browser, and block the other outgoing ports just in case. Any ideas on how to do this?

• Capturing multicast data with Wireshark with IGMP Snooping Enabled at the switch

  I am trying to capture multicast traffic via Wireshark (actually TShark), however the switch has IGMP snooping enabled and will only send Multicast traffic on the ports that have an active IGMP subscription. I am currently getting around this by having a separate application hold the groups open I wish to record, but I am trying to set up a system to start/stop recording data dynamically and this extra complexity is painful. Is there a way to force Wireshark to send out IGMP Subscriptions for multicast groups it is recording?

  Has anyone had any luck getting Windows Live mail to sync with a Palm Pre with WebOS 1.1? I have tried the manual setup options setting up the pop3 incoming server on port 995 with SSL encryption and the smtp out going server on both ports 25 and 587 with TTL encryption. It acts like it is connected, but it just keeps wanting to refresh and never shows anything in the inbox.

• USB mouse disconnecting and reconnecting randomly and often

  Specs: Q6600, evga 780I sli mobo, 4gig RAM, logitech MX518, windows 7 64bit, evga gtx 260, 650W power supply (single rail) The problem I am having is my mouse will reconnect/disconnect (will even hear the sounds from windows) and the light on the bottom of the mouse will turn off/turn on as it starts working again. It really sucks to be playing a game (and happens on desktop as well) for the mouse to just die out for a few seconds and come back. Sometimes it will not happen for days and other times it will do it 2 or more times within 15 seconds. I have tried two different wired mice, have tried multiple USB ports (on front of computer, back of computer, have also used a USB hub and have also plugged in a card that connects to the USB connectors on the motherboard and adds a few usb ports to the back of the computer, and I also bought a USB 2.0 PCI card and that did not help). Nothing else seems to reconnect like this, my usb keyboard has never once cut out like the mouse does and neither have any of the other devices I have connected (webcam, usb hub, various devices sometimes connected through usb cables, and IR reciever for windows media center remote). I have disconnected all usb devices except for my keyboard and mouse and the problem still occurs. I guess it could be something wrong with my motherboard but since no other devices behave similarly I'm just hoping that it is some kind of driver conflict. Installing logitech's drivers has had no effect. It seemed at first that if I go to device manager and uninstall HID-compliant mouse (that and logitech mx518 are listed) that would fix it but it doesn't seem to work anymore or at least not every time (it keeps reinstalling). I have googled "usb mouse disconnects and reconnects" and it seems to be fairly common but none of those were resolved. To stick some easy steps: It happens with or without the drivers installed It has happened with multiple mice on the same computer Bios is the latest version (P08) Motherboard drivers are the latest version Device manager is listing no problems on any USB devices Happens with every usb port, even addon usb cards Happens when all usb devices aside from mouse and keyboard are unplugged I read that maybe it is an IRQ conflict and I tried to look into that but did not really know what was going on, but didn't see anything obviously wrong. • Issues connection to Ubuntu via PuTTy

  I'm not sure this is the appropriate stack exchange site to post this question on. If not, please flag this for migration. I am trying to use PuTTy ssh into my ubuntu machine which is wirelessly connected to the same network. I originally ran ifconfig to get my ubuntu machines private network IP address. I then verified that ssh was running, I even ssh'd into my school network and then into the ubuntu machine itself. No problems yet. On my windows 8 machine I ran ipconfig to get my private network IPv4 address. I then pinged my ubunty machines IP and 100% of packets were received. I figured, "OK we are ready to use PuTTy to connect to my Ubuntu Machine". Keep in mind this was my first time using PuTTy. I tried entering the IP of my ubuntu machine in the PuTTy Config GUI but I got a connection timeout. At this moment I don't really know what's going on, SSH is running on port 22 of my Ubuntu machine and I can ping the machine why is it not connecting? (I tried [username]@ip too). So I went on my Ubuntu machine and ran nmap -sP 192.168.0.1/24 and found that my windows machines IP did not show up, the host is down. I'm at a lost in something I am not very familiar with. Would anyone be able to help me or direct me to some resources that would trouble shoot my problem? • Amazon blocked port 80 and 443 on my instance

  Amazon AWS sent me an email about warning that my instance have been behaving like Phising that is against AWS Customer Agreement. And they noticed that they blocked port 80 and 443 which are for HTTP and HTTPS respectively. Google Safe Browsing also reported that some code injection was made to one of my websites. After a cleaning, Google stopped blocking my website displaying in the search result. So, how can I unblock my ports?

• Correct location of git on Mac OS X

  On Mac OS x 10.6.6 I have git installed in /usr/bin/ I wanted to update the got version however the the git installer puts it in /usr/local/git/bin/ I realise I could rearrange to path to point to the local one first but what I do not get is where the /usr/bin version came from. Could it be part of an xcode install and lastly how would I delete correct it. I have looked and looked but find nothing and I didn't install it with ports etc. thanks

(built-in is preferred) My second question, and more generally, I need a log file of penetration attempts to my server.
