  • Fastest possible summing numbers up to N

    - by dada
Okay so i need really FAST algorithm or code in C if you have any it would be nice. The task is to sum all numbers from 1 to N for a given number N (it can be negative number too), so i did the usual way (you know just summing with loop from 1 to N) but it's not fast enough - i need something faster, i guess that i need the fastest possible way to do this. If anyone could help me, please do. Thanks.

  • How to calculate a measure of a total error in this clustering

    - by Vafello
    I have the following points and clustering of data S1. Can anyone tell me how to calculate the total error associated with this clustering? I know it's not a strictly programming question, but I need it for my algorithm. I think the answer should be 4/3 but I have no idea how to calculate this. Can anyone help me? x1= (2.0,1.0) x2= (2.0,2.0) x3= (1.0,2.0) S1={ x1, x2, x3 }

  • Smallest sum of graph weight, where each node are connceted (like a network)

    - by Svisstack
Hello, What algorithm I can use for problem like this: Have a graph positive weighted, i want to know a smallest possible sum of weights where each node are connected (connected like a network, where each node is a eg. network device). In this network each node can be connected with other node by some other other nodes in way. But all nodes from input graph must be in a network. Any one can help me with this?

  • CRC function without order dependency

    - by Pirks
I need a CRC mechanism to calculate the CRC of a number of strings, such that, given two strings, A and B, the sum crc(A) + crc(B) == crc(A+B). P.S. XOR is too weak---the algorithm should be not trivial for reverse engineering.

  • All possible paths in a cyclic undirected graph

    - by Elias
I'm trying to develop an algorithm that identifies all possible paths between two nodes in a graph, as in this example. in fact, i just need to know which nodes appear in all existing paths. in the web only got references about DFS, A* or dijkstra, but i think they doesn't work in this case. Does anyone know how to solve it?

  • What is Chain Matrix Multiplication ?

    - by Hellnar
Hello, I am trying to understand what is a chain matrix multiplication and how it is different from a regular multiplication. I have checked several sourcers yet all seem to be very academically explained for me to understand. I guess it is a form of dynamic programming algorithm to achieve the operation in an optimised way but I didn't go any further. Thanks

  • What is an efficient way to find a non-colliding rectangle nearest to a location

    - by hyn
For a 2D game I am working on, I am using y axis sorting in a simple rectangle-based collision detection. This is working fine, and now I want to find the nearest empty rectangle at a given location with a given size, efficiently. How can I do this? Is there an algorithm? I could think of a simple brute force grid test (with each grid the size of the empty space we're looking for) but obviously this is slow and not even a complete test.

  • Least common multiple for 3 or more numbers

    - by paan
How do you calculate the least common multiple of multiple numbers? So far I've only been able to calculate it between two numbers. But have no idea how to expand it to calculate 3 or more numbers. So far this is how I did it LCM = num1 * num2 / gcd ( num1 , num2 ) With gcd is the function to calculate the greatest common divisor for the numbers. Using euclidean algorithm But I can't figure out how to calculate it for 3 or more numbers.

  • K-means algorithm variation with minimum measure of size

    - by user1464628
I'm looking for some algorithm such as k-means for grouping points on a map into a fixed number of groups, by distance. The number of groups has already been decided, but the trick part (at least for me) is to meet the criteria that the sum of MOS of each group should in the certain range, say bigger than 1. Is there any way to make that happen? ID MOS X Y 1 0.47 39.27846 -76.77101 2 0.43 39.22704 -76.70272 3 1.48 39.24719 -76.68485 4 0.15 39.25172 -76.69729 5 0.09 39.24341 -76.69884

  • Divide sequence elements into pairs

    - by alex
I have a sequence of 16 elements: 1,2,3,..., 16 ( or 2*n elements). Sequence elements always goes from 1 to length(sequence) that is sequence of 4 elements is 1,2,3,4. I want to write an algorithm which divide elements into pairs. For Example, 1-15 2-16 3-13 4-9 5-14 6-10 7-11 8-12 PS: no linq please :)

  • Convert a post-order binary tree traversal index to an level-order (breadth-first) index

    - by strfry
Assuming a complete binary tree, each node can be adressed with the position it appears in a given tree traversal algorithm. For example, the node indices of a simple complete tree with height 3 would look like this: breadth first (aka level-order): 0 / \ 1 2 / \ / \ 3 4 5 6 post-order dept first: 6 / \ 2 5 / \ / \ 0 1 3 4 The height of the tree and an index in the post-order traversal is given. How can i calculate the breadth first index from this information?

  • Image in Image Algorithm

    - by Paul
I need an algorithm written in any language to find an image inside of an image, including at different scales. Does anyone know a starting point to solving a problem like this? For example: I have an image of 800x600 and in that image is a yellow ball measuring 180 pixels in circumference. I need to be able to find this image with a search pattern of a yellow ball having a circumference of 15 pixels. Thanks

  • Cuboid inside generic polyhedron

    - by DOFHandler
I am searching for an efficient algorithm to find if a cuboid is completely inside or completely outside or (not-inside and not-outside) a generic (concave or convex) polyhedron. The polyhedron is defined by a list of 3D points and a list of facets. Each facet is defined by the subset of the contour points ordinated such as the right-hand normal points outward the solid. Any suggestion? Thank you
