  • Create a overflow screen while a game/program is running?

    Hello. Does anyone know how I can create a screen overflow while a program is running? Mainly while a game is running. If anyone has used xFire or Steam, these use this feature. I've created a winform which starts the game/program and then minimizes. Could the overflow be created in the same winform? Thanks for the help! :)

  • GNU Smalltalk text interface hard to use

    I built GNU Smalltalk from source on my Mac because I couldn't get it working using fink and I found VMs like Squeak hard to understand. When I run the gst command it works fine, but unlike command line interfaces such the Python and Lua ones, it is hard to use because when I use the left or right arrow keys, I want the cursor to move left or right, but instead it inserts text like "^[[D". I understand why it does this but is there any way to fix it so it is more usable?

    Is it possible to make GNU Emacs 24 dim unfocused windows a bit? For example, I can set my rxvt-unicode clients to become darker when their windows don't have focus with this string in ~/.Xdefaults: URxvt*fading: 50 It greatly reduces discomfort when you have a lot of terminal windows on 2+ monitors.     Is there tool or a regexp that can convert shell escape characters to HTML code? As an example, here is a logfile from GNU screen: ^MESC[K$ ^MESC[K$ exit Executing .bashrc ESC[00;31;31mserver.xyz.com: ESC[00;34;34m~ which I would like to convert to something like this: $ exit Executing .bashrc <font color=red>server.xyz.com</font>: <font color=blue>~</font> and send as HTML e-mail to an e-mail address, to archive my work. Here is a related question, which shows how to convert it to regular text, but it would be nice to convert to HTML and not just throw the escape characters away.

  • Persistent PuTTY sessions for multiple windows

    I'm working in various Linux environments through PuTTY connections which break from time to time. I'm looking for a solution to make the PuTTY windows persist (e.g. if I was editing a file, then after reconnecting I should be in the same editor with the same file open at the same place), with the following requirements: it shouldn't require any manual setup at the beginning of the session or after reconnection (I don't want to type in screen or anything like that) I have several windows open to the same machine with the same user, which tend to disconnect at the same time the number/role of windows is not constant (it's not like I have an mc window, a mysql window and a "script runner" window; sometimes I use one window for search or for SVN commands, other times I need several at the same time) sometimes I need to change the properties of the windows for a task (large window for grepping/editing, small windows because I need to see two of them at the same time, red background because I am modifying the live database in MySQL etc), so I need to get the same console back in the same window after a reconnect Is there a way to achieve this? I suppose I should use screen or something equivalent, but how does it know which window I am reconnecting from? Is there some way to pass a unique window identifier to the shell from PuTTY?

I want to add a similar rule with a recipe, but when I add a rule and its receipe on the next line by giving a tab or space for the recipe, I get make error. dummy : @echo $(OBJS) When i turned on the vim command :set list , i see: dummy :$ ^I@echo $(OBJS)$ What exactly are the characters before the recipe line(second line) which indent it from the start of line? How do I enter them using keyboard (without having to copy paste the exisitng rule and then modifying it? Where would I find information for various spaces/indents to be used in creating a Makefile from beginning, by hand(Not a automake/or other tool created makefile)? thanks, -AD.

    Android applications can maintain their own internal preferences (and allow them to be modified by users) with very little coding. In fact, you don't even need to write an code to explicitly save these preferences, it's all handled automatically! Create a new Android project, with an intial activity title Main. Create two more activities: ShowPrefs, which extends Activity Set Prefs, which extends PreferenceActivity Add these two to your AndroidManifest.xml file: <activity android:name=".SetPrefs"></activity> <activity android:name=".ShowPrefs"></activity> Now we'll work on fleshing out each activity. Let's throw together an activity to work with the saved preferences.   • Command line mode only -- successful login only brings me back to login screen

    whenever I log in the screen goes black, I see a glimpse of terminal-esque text, and then it brings me back to the log in screen (Ubuntu 12.04). I can enter and log in via the command line. The guest account works find. I think this happened because I edited some Xorg related file trying to make an external monitor work with my laptop. I copy pasted from a forum post so I dont recall the file or what i put in the file. Can't find the forum post again and my bash history wasn't recorded from that session. I tried reinstalling Xorg and ubuntu-desktop, nvidia, resetting any configs I could find... I'm really at a loss of what to do.     The other day we shared a quick keyboard tip for going straight to Desktop Mode in Windows 8 when you logged in. Today we are back with a small app that gets you straight to Desktop Mode with ‘set it and forget it’ ease. You will need to install ClassicStarter after you have extracted the contents of the zip file. Once that is done simply start the app up and this is what you will see… The only thing you will need to do is click on the Classic Desktop Button. Once you have clicked on the Classic Desktop Button it will ‘grey out’. Simply exit the app, log out, and then log back into your system. The Start Screen will display for a moment or two, but everything will shift over to Desktop Mode automatically without any additional actions required on your part.
