    Hi everyone! Im new here and also new to developing software and programming, and with new I mean 0 experience or schooling for it. As Im currently studying medicine via internet and I use a computer on an average of about 8-9 hours a day, this has lead me to get very interested in programming. I got a link from a fellow Redditor and I got some questions before I dive into this project. http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/Electrical-Engineering-and-Computer-Science/6-00Fall-2008/CourseHome/index.htm Is this too much/hard for a beginner? Is Python™ programming language the way to go or would I be better off learning some other kind of language to begin with? What other ways of learning basic programming by myself is there? Im building a profile site and want the profiles to be listed in phonegap This is the functionality I look for: Basic login and with autentication in our rails app After login a listing of all profiles getting data from the rails app and display this inside phonegap Listing of profiles with basic search What would be the best and quickest way to get this functionality up and running?     Im trying to post to aweber using just jquery. Im guessing hte addlead.pl is just a posting page with no response.

Stop.` any idea why that might be ? sorry if the answers a real simple one im pretty new to ror / terminal and ive been going round in loops with this for almost a day, any helps much appreciated !

  • sql server 2008, not enough disc space

    Hello, Im executing sql query on my database. I have sql server 2008 installed on my D harddrive which has 55 GB free space. I have also C drive which has sth like 150 MB free (right now). While executing that query on quite a big table (16 GB) I have an error: An error occurred while executing batch. Error message is: Not enough disc space. I would like to know if there is any possibility that I can make Sql server to use D drive instead of C Or maybe there is any other problem with what Im doing ? Thanks for help

  • Passing variables, creating instances, self, The mechanics and usage of classes: need explenation

    I've been sitting over this the whole day and Im a little tired already so please excuse me being brief. Im new to python. I just rewrrote a working program, into a bunch of functions in a class and everzthings messed up. I dont know if its me but Im very surprised i couldn t find a beginners tutorial on how to handle classes on the web so I have a few questions. First of all, in the init section of the class i have declared a bunch of variables with self.variable=something. Is it correct that i should be able to access/modify these variables in every function of the class by using self.variable in that function? In other words by declaring self.variable i have made these variables, global variables in the scope of the class right? If not how do i handle self. ? Secondly how do i correctly pass arguments to the class? some example code would be cool. thirdly how do i call a function of the class outside of the class scope? some example code would be cool. fouthly how do I create an Instance of the class INITIALCLASS in another class OTHERCLASS, passing variables from OTHERCLASS to INITIALCLASS? some example code would be cool. I Want to call a function from OTHERCLASS with arguments from INITIALCLASS. In general i havent udnerstood the mechanics of classes So please help me and explain it to me like i have no Idea( which i dont it seems). Or point me to a thorough video, or readable tutorial. All i find on the web is super simple examples, that didnt help me much.   • BroadcastReciever doesn't show SMS not Send or Not delivered

    While using broadcastreciver for checking sms status, it shows the toast when sms is sent but shows nothing when sms is not sent or delivered (im testing it by putting an abrupt number). the code im using is the one ive seen the most on every site of checking sms delivery status. But my code is only showing the status when sms is sent successfully. Can any one get a hint of what am i doing wrong ? I hav this method in doInBackground() and so obviously im using AsyncTask.   • jQuery - Outputting jquery results to a hidden form field

    Hey All, I was wondering how i could output the results from my jQuery to a hidden form field so i can then shove it into the database. What i am trying to do is basically get the some of the list of list, if that makes sense? lol What i am trying to achieve is.... sum([ [1,2],[3,4],[5,6] ]). should return: Number Of Lists: 3 List 1 3 List 2 7 List 3 11....etc I can get the Number of Lists which is fairly simple but im not quite sure how to loop through the List and then for each List add the number up.     Im using Navigation Controller for my ViewControllers,I set my importantViewController as something like this to be its RootView: UINavigationController *navControl = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController: vc]; [self presentModalViewController: navControl animated: YES]; Then, I pushView anotherView the FrontViewController like this: [self.navigationController pushViewController:vc animated:YES]; After a button is pressed in FrontViewController another view will be pushed ViewA but it is connected with another ViewController ViewB the same way as this AGAIN: [self.navigationController pushViewController:vc animated:YES]; (Which I think Im doing wrong when dismissing either of them with [self.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated:YES];) This is an illustration: My problem is, I need to navigate between View A and View B then when I dismiss either of them it will got back to FrontViewController. Additional requirements (that preclude hosting an IRC server myself): IM style appliction -- Download and install one app on each PC. The app lives in the tray. New messages appear in a notification window on everybody's pc. Secure -- No Ventrillo Harassment nonsense. Only those with access can see and read what's going on. Not My Job -- Doesn't require us to host a server, set up a server, etc. I just want to log on and go. No friggen smileys -- If the client app has smilies I will have to kill someone.
