  • Combining two MVC frameworks in a project

    Is it any good to combine two MVC frameworks together in a project? Is it a fairly common approach? I am thinking about using a serverside framework like CodeIgniter/Laravel and client side framework AngularJS in a predominantly CRUD based web project. I am a bit apprehensive about this idea. I think this approach does not get the best out of both frameworks and can kind of get in way of each other making the application needlessly complicated. Are there some good approaches/practices if one wants to combine these frameworks together?

  • Best C++ Portable time library for game development

    I'm venturing into the dark world of portable development and I'm looking for a nice library to keep track of system time for all game events. So far I've turned to trust boost and found: This boost library But I'm wondering if it there are some alternatives. I use boost a lot and (while I like it) I find that it sometimes takes me longer to figure out how to use the generic code than to write my own...not-so-generic code. (Ya, ya...I know. I should be less lazy). But anyway, advice appreciated! :)

Considering this adds hundreds of kilobytes to each Scala app redundantly, would it be possible to build a Scala library which can be delivered over the market, so app writers can just depend on that library instead of bundling it themselves?

Here is the issue: I know rails defaults to sqllite right now, but I need to use mysql for a series of reasons.   • Maven Integrated View for NetBeans IDE

    Started working on an oft-heard request from Kirk Pepperdine for an integrated view for multimodule builds for Maven projects in NetBeans IDE, as explained here. I suddenly had some kind of brainwave and solved all the remaining problems I had, by delegating to the LogicalViewProvider's node, instead of the project's node, which means I inherit all the icons, actions, package nodes, and anything else that was originally defined within the original project, in this case for the open source JAnnocessor project: Above, you can see that the Maven submodules can either be edited in-line, i.e., within the parent project, or separately, by opening them in the traditional NetBeans way. Get the module here: http://plugins.netbeans.org/plugin/45180/?show=true Some people out there might be interested in how this is achieved. First, hide the original ModulesNodeFactory in the layer.   • Safely delete a TFS branch project

    I'm currently reorganising our TFS source control for a very large set of solutions, and I've done this successfully so far. I have a problem at the moment where I need to delete a legacy "Release Branch" TFS project that was branched for the old structure, and is no-longer required since I now host a release branch within the new structure. This is an example of how the source control now looks after moving everything: $/Source Project /Trunk /[Projects] /Release /[Projects] $/Release Branch Project /[Projects] /[Other legacy stuff] So far I've found information that says: tf delete /lock:checkout /recursive TestMain to delete a branch. TfsDeleteProject to delete a project tf delete seems to be only relevant when I need to delete a branch that is within the same project as the trunk, and TfsDeleteProject doesn't seem like it will delete the branch association from the source project (I hope I'm wrong, see below). Can someone tell me if the above will work, and in what order I should perform them in, to successfully delete the TFS $/Release Branch Project while also deleting the branch association (from right-click $/Source Project - Properties - Branches)?

    I am using NetBeans 6.9 Beta and I would like to accomplish the following: Set up a project representing the main application using Maven (for instance "Maven Project", "Maven NetBeans Application") Ideally, the project should only contain the necessary libraries to run in Apache Felix (I would like to be able to right-click the project and select "Run in Felix") I do not want that the project contains all the NetBean Platform APIs I would prefer to implement the modules using OSGi. For instance "Maven OSGi Bundle", "Maven NetBeans Module" + OSGi These are the problems, which I have at the moment: The standard Maven archetype ("Maven NetBeans Application") seems always to select all APIs and I have not found a way to deselect APIs - in normal NetBeans Platform Applications that can be accomplished by going to the project properties and deselected the platform modules) - I guess it has something to do with the NetBeans repository (http://bits.netbeans.org/maven2)? Do I have to create another repository? When creating normal "NetBeans Module" with OSGi support, the modules contain both NetBeans Module and OSGi meta data, which is nice. But the "Maven NetBeans Modules" have only NetBeans meta data and the Maven OSGi Bundles have only OSGi meta data). I figured out how to add modules to the project by using project / new and then placing the modules in the Maven project folder. However, I do not quite know yet how I could link to modules from other locations (NetBeans uses Maven modules, which have to be in the same directory as the project?).   • What does <project> is obsolete mean?

    My batch build has a project, lets call it 'My.Project'. That project got up-reved to .NET 3.5 (from .NET 1.1) in its own standalone project (meaning its not part of this batch build). Most of it is the same, there are calls that were upgraded, features added/removed. I go to start replacing all calls that all the other projects use to that, now old, project with new calls. I first remove the old reference and then add the new one. One of my projects only has one call. When I go to make the changes, one namespace in the new project throws a 'My.Project.Namespace1 is obsolete' while another call to that project throws nothing. Is there something I should be looking for? What would be causing this?

I've created a simple page with a Select Widget, but it clearly needs some styling (element looks like plain text, and in the example below the menu items pop up beneath the button). That problem is in order to get data access I need to configure a connection string, but that connection string must be configurable in a production environment, I meant in production I am going to deploy the site, which is a very simple project that contains only a reference WCF Service Library Project then a guy from database department will configure the connection string. In development I have an app.config on the data access project but when I do the release that app.config is embedded on the dll. Any ideas how can we achieve our purpose

  • Development/runtime Licensing mechanism for a C# class library?

    I'm developing a .Net class library (a data provider) and I'm starting to think about how I would handle licensing the library to prospective purchasers. By licensing, I mean the mechanics of trying to prevent my library from being used by those who haven't purchased it, not the software license (i.e., Apache, Gnu, etc). I've never dealt with licensing, and in the past, I've always developed apps, not libraries. I don't want to make things difficult for my customers; know it is not possible to make it ironclad. Just some mechanism that gives me decent protection without making the customer jump through hoops or gnash their teeth. I think the mechanism would check for a valid license when the class is being used in development mode, and not in runtime mode (when the customer's software is released to their customers). I think libraries are typically sold per developer, but I'm not sure how that could be accomplished without making the mechanism odious for my customers; maybe that gets left to the honor system. I Googled this and found many approaches. Ideally, I'd like to do something that is generally accepted and common, the "right" way class libraries are licensed, if that exists, rather than making my customers deal with yet another license mechanism. A firm push in the right direction will be greatly appreciated!

    I'm trying to build some code on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS that uses OpenSSL 1.0.0. When I run make, it invokes g++ with the "-lssl" option. The source includes: #include <openssl/bio.h> #include <openssl/buffer.h> #include <openssl/des.h> #include <openssl/evp.h> #include <openssl/pem.h> #include <openssl/rsa.h> I ran: $ sudo apt-get install openssl Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done openssl is already the newest version. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 3 not upgraded. But I guess the openssl package doesn't include the library. I did a man g++ and (under "Options for Linking") for the -l option it states: " The linker searches a standard list of directories for the library..." and "The directories searched include several standard system directories..." What are those standard system directories?

  • Differences between WPF Custom Control Library and plain Class Library?

    I posted a question a few months ago about sharing resource dictionaries across assemblies. It turns out you can do that using the Component Resource Key markup extension. At the time, I could only get it working with a WPF Custom Control project, not with a plain Class Library project. Now I need to use an existing plain Class Library project to host a shared resource dictionary. That means I need to retrofit the Class Library project to support the Component Resource Key markup extension. I have added a Themes folder and a Generic.xaml resource dictionary document to the Class Library project, as well as references to PresentationCore, PresentationFramework, and WindowsBase. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to do the trick. So, here is my question: Other than the above, what does a WPF Custom Control Library project have that a plain Class Library project doesn't? Or, to put it another way, what else could I add to my class library project to get this feature working? Thanks.

    Can someone please explain in easy terms what is static library linking vs dynamic library linking other one has a larger memory map than the other or that the static library is used to compile/link with the program that will use it versus being loaded at runtime? I also need to create a static library of a program that I made in vs2008 and give one function interface to access the library. one of the requirements reads as such " * API should be in the form of static library. company xxx will link the library into a third party application to prevent any possible exposure of the code(dll)" how can they say both static and dll at the same time. I have never works with static library before. So please any help would be nice.

    Hi all, I have an android application that utilizes another project as a project reference. i've gone into the application options, build path, and then selected the project in project references. everything builds and deploys fine, but when i try to run the application and instantiate a class in that project, i'm getting a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError errrrrr. i'm no java project expert, so i assume i've cocked something simple up. any ideas?

  • What is the best practice to segment c#.net projects based on a single base project

    Honestly, I can't word my question any better without describing it. I have a base project (with all its glory, dlls, resources etc) which is a CMS. I need to use this project as a base for othe custom bake projects. This base project is to be maintained and updated among all custom bake projects. I use subversion (Collabnet and Tortise SVN) I have two questions: 1 - Can I use subversion to share the base project among other projects What I mean here is can I "Checkout" the base project into another "Checked Out" project and have both update and commit seperatley. So, to paint a picture, let's say I am working on a custom project and I modify the core/base prject in some way (which I know will suit the others) can I then commit those changes and upon doing so when I update the base project in the other "Checked out" resources will it pull the changes? In short, I would like not to have to manually deploy updated core files whenever I make changes into each seperate project. 2 - If I create a custom file (let's say an webcontrol or aspx page etc) can I have it compile seperatley from the base project Another tricky one to explain. When I publish my web application it creates DLLs based on the namespaces of projects attached to it. So I may have a number of DLLs including the "Website's" namespace DLL, which could simply be website. I want to be able to make a seperate, custom, control which does not compile into those DLLs as the custom files should not rely on those DLLS to run. Is it as simple to set a seperate namespace for those files like CustomFiles.ProjectName for example? Think of the whole idea as adding modules to the .NET project, I don't want the module's code in any of the core DLLs but I do need for module to be able to access the core dlls. (There is no need for the core project to access the module code as it should be one way only in theory, though I reckon it woould not be possible anyway without using JSON/SOAP or something like that, maybe I am wrong.) I want to create a pluggable environment much like that of Joomla/Wordpress as since PHP generally doesn't have to be compiled first I see this is the reason why all this is possible/easy. The idea is to allow pluggable themes, modules etc etc. (I haven't tried simply adding .NET themes after compile/publish but I am assuming this is possible anyway? OR does the compiler need to reference items in the files?)

  • Including a minified js code in another js library

    I want to incorporate a minified javascript library (for example http://sizzlejs.com/) into my own non minified javascript library. The reason is that my library plugs into other websites and I don't want to ask them to include the extra library (sizzle) as well. Is there a way to include a minified library in a non minified library and have them both in one js file?
